THE CAPTIVATING SMELL of hot coffee was all Lorelai Gilmore could think about as she waited on Luke to serve her, her own. She sat impatiently staring at her daughter, Rory, as a way of entertainment. Attempting to distract herself from the lack of coffee in her system. "Luke, Lucas, Luke."

Her voice practically twirled as she spoke flirtily towards him, batting her eyelashes in the process. The response received was nothing new to the tall brunette. The man making his way over towards the table of women, his backwards cap, flannel, and jeans all in the same place they always were. Not that anyone expected anything otherwise. "You would do anything for coffee wouldn't you?"

"Talking dirty to me this early in the morning?" Lorelai winked making Luke hold back the attempt to roll his eyes as he poured coffee into the mug she was impatiently tapping her painted fingernails against. The mug was painted blue, one she had seen and used many times over the years. Luke never changed up anything about his diner, even the sign still had his father's old shop name on it. "You're food's coming up."

"Phone's for you!" The sound of Ceaser's voice made Luke sigh as he stepped back from the girls and made his way behind the bar. He picked up the phone and held it between his shoulder and ear, writing something down on his notepad in the process. This lasted for a moment when his "yello..." turned into a "hey." This caught the Gilmore Girls' attention.

"Who do you think it is?" Rory asked simply as they watched their favorite grouch step back, making his way to the back of the diner for privacy. "A lover?"

"Ew, don't say that!" Lorelai batted with disgust rolling off her tongue. Her daughter held up her hands in defense as their eyes darted over to Ceaser who placed their plates at their table. Thanking him, they began to dig in as they spoke of nothing of importance. Something about James Dean and ending the conversation with Emily Gilmore's tablecloths.

The conversation was interrupted with her cell phone ringing, this made her groan as she set down her fork. "Don't jump off my plate and run away while I answer this!" She instructed firmly to her eggs, making Rory shake her head at her mother.

As she went to flip open her purple phone, a snap caught her attention. The diner owner, whom was standing directly behind the counter, his right hand on the phone. His other hand was pointing at the phone as he shook his head, moving to point to the sign directly behind him. This made her mouth open, pointing at his phone. He then mouthed, "Important" which she did the same as she flipped open her phone.

"Hello, Important," She snorted at her own joke as she turned back to face Rory who was smiling at her own mother. "Lor?"

"Tilda!" Lorelai's voice exclaimed excitement at the sound of her niece's voice. Ever since Matilda was a baby, Lorelai Gilmore had a special connection with her. She was only fifteen at the time, but their connection was undeniable. Being an Aunt was truly one of the things Lorelai Gilmore was best at. "I ran away."

"What?" The sound of her shock made the groups of customers turn their head towards her in shock at the disturbance. Luke had given her a nasty glare, in which she stood up quickly and made her way out of the diner. "Honey, are you okay?"

"I'm... yeah, I guess." The voice of the sixteen year old held a deep amount of heartache and emotion which was rare for the teen. Lorelai was used to the cold beat that Matilda followed, she had walls and Lorelai accepted that. She once was Matilda too, she saw too much of herself in her.

"Well... what happened?" Lorelai bundled her arms around herself as the breeze of the early morning kicked in. The leaves of the small town had begun their coloring, the orange and yellow colors beginning to take over the town.

"You know I've just been doing shit lately but she just... we got in a big fight and she told me she just...." Her voice on the phone trailed off, like she couldn't speak of it without bursting into tears. Lorelai knew this wasn't the case however, Matilda was one of the strongest people she knew. She never put up with her mother and grandmother's very judge mental behavior towards her, and this time it cost her. "It's been so bad Lor. Dad's been... he started being physical again and Mom was screaming. I..."

"Come stay with us," Lorelai was quick to offer. She wasn't thinking about the future, about how this would affect her or Rory. But that didn't matter in the moment. And she would be lying if she said she hadn't thought about raising her niece as her own over the years. She loved Matilda, she was Matilda. And she deserved what Lorelai couldn't have for herself.

"No, I can't do that to you." She was quick to reply which made Lorelai sigh. "Yes, yes you can. Just come to Stars Hollow and we'll see what happens okay? Rory and I, we love you, kid. Come stay with your doppelgΓ€ngers who love you."

The other side of the line was dead silent for a few moments, Lorelai couldn't feel the coldness anymore as she anticipated an answer. She was prepared to drive the two hours to Boston and drag the girl if she had to. Her mother instinct had kicked on immediately, especially to the kid she loved as her own.

"Fine. But only for a little bit." Matilda's words made Lorelai lean back, a grin plastered on her face. "Yay, Tilda. I'll be waiting to greet you like you're the Queen of Boston or something. You have the address right?"

"Yeah... there better be a red carpet and paparazzi ready for my arrival," The girl spoke making Lorelai chuckle as she wrapped her arms around herself even tighter. "Wouldn't do it any other ways. I'll see you in a few hours, okay? Drive safe."

"Lor?" Matilda's voice was low, making Lorelai sigh to herself. Her niece was on the verge of tears and scared to death. "Yeah, honey?"

"What am I supposed to do about my parents? I left a note but when Mom finds out I'm staying with you- Oh, my God she's gonna kill you. I'm sorry-"

"Hey, stop it. I will deal with my sister if I need to. I'm the one who's sorry. I should have gotten you away from them years ago, honey. Just come here and we'll talk everything through. Okay?"

"Yeah." And like that the phone was disconnected. Lorelai Gilmore smiled to herself as she made a mental checklist of everything she needed to do before her niece arrived, opening the door to the diner as she took a seat gleefully.

"Who was that?" Rory pestered the moment she spotted her mother. "You mean who I was making out with outside?"

"No- ew- the person who told you something that made you give Kirk a heart attack," Lorelai glanced over at the very odd man who was talking to his man purse before looking back at her daughter. "Well... we are going to have a roommate."

"Mom, I told you, you have to stop inviting Coldplay to our house," Rory shook her head which made Lorelai give her a playful annoyed look. "Ugh, you're no fun."

"Tell, please." Rory spoke excitedly as Lorelai giggled. "Matilda!"

"Tilda's coming?" Rory's words came out as a shout, a lot louder than she expected. This made Kirk stare wide eyed at them for a moment while they looked back, they only turned back to one another and shivered. "So, why?"

"Well... devil sister Emily has been a little too satanic lately so she just had to get out of there. I told her to come stay with us or we would cut off her toes in her sleep," Lorelai spoke as she began to finish her now cold eggs. "How very devil may care of you."

"I know," Lorelai spoke proudly as she took a sip of her coffee. "We've got to start getting the office ready though."

"You've got to stop calling a room full of old junk your office. I mean that thing has not seen the light of day in years, nonetheless a desk, or shelves, or white out, or any office materials!"

"If you're going to disrespect the office then you're on getting new stuff duty," This made Rory pull a pen and paper out of her tote bag which made Lorelai furrow her eyebrows. "You're lucky you're pretty, or you would've gotten beat up on the school yard!"

"Oh shush, you." Rory spoke as she began to start a list of things they needed for the impossibly cluttered 'office' room. The door opened as a group of boy scouts entered, a very preppy Taylor Doose following closely behind.

"We need to get her a greeting food," Rory spoke as her eyes glanced up from her post it note, where her mother was chugging her own coffee. "Ooh, donuts! What says 'welcome to the most uneventful town ever' than donuts?"

"Go get 'em," Rory agreed as Lorelai propped herself up, making her way over towards the counter where Luke had placed the phone back on the wall. "Everybody, listen up. Decide what you want, place your order, and then proceed to the end of the line."

"I want a burger." One of the boy scouts told Luke who stared back unimpressed.

"I want grilled cheese," Another one said. "Me too."

"And I want fries and make them crispy," The grilled cheese boy said with some soft of smirk on his face. Lorelai watched in entertainment, enjoying this more than she would most other things. "I want mine crispy too."

"You didn't order fries?"

"So?"

"So you can't order crispy fries without first ordering fries."

"Why?"

"Because you can't make something crispy that doesn't exist."

"Why not?"

"Get him away from me, Taylor." Luke's words made Lorelai laugh as his attention was shifted to the tall brunette standing beside the group. "More coffee?"

"No-"

"Have some respect. These boys have just completed the first leg of their outdoor survival training." Taylor snapped making Luke sigh as he turned back to face the market owner. "Meaning you had them sit under a tree and glue rocks together for two hours."

Taylor scoffed at Luke's words which only made Lorelai's smile grow wider. The boy scouts stood ignorantly as they watched the interaction. "You're a very jaded man Luke. What happened to you as a child?"

"Some creepy guy in shorts and knee socks tried to sit me under a tree and glue rocks together for two hours," Luke's lips almost curved to a smile at his words until he saw one of the boy scouts messing around. "Put that down!"

"Why?" The little blonde boy asked blindly. "Because otherwise you're going under it."

"I won't fit."

"Oh yes you will," Luke fired back as Lorelai stood impatiently. She enjoyed the Daddy Day Care parody she was living for a while but she had things to do, she only had two hours before V would arrive at her door. "Hey, donuts, please."

"We we're here first!" The grilled cheese boy shouted making Lorelai practically roll her eyes at the little boy. "On this planet?"

"Huh?" The boy asked confusedly, making Lorelai look back up at Luke. "I win. I'll have chocolate and cinnamon and... sprinkles!"

Her order was stopped abruptly by the phone ringing once more which made the group of boy scouts and Lorelai share a groan, as Luke made his way over towards the phone. "Yeah, I'm working. What do you think I'm doing? Uh huh. Uh huh. Oh man, what did you do? Excuse me, are you serious? Just like that, huh?"

Impatiently, Lorelai made her way behind the counter which she had been behind way more times than Luke would allow. She grabbed her own donuts and stuffed them into a bag while the boys watched in amazement. "Hey Mr. Doose. She's not supposed to do that."

"That's right. She's breaking the rules, and people who break the rules end up very lonely with no friends because they have become society's outcasts." Taylor smiled sweetly as Lorelai looked up at the man, annoyance on her eyes. "Planning on burning a little Huck Finn after lunch, Taylor?"

"Excuse me?" The man asked nearly offended, despite not understanding the joke. Luke's shouting on the caught the attention of the gathered group, Lorelai turning to her side to see Luke angrily hanging up the phone. "Is everything okay?"

"Do you have a sister?" He asked, pointing his finger, something he did when he got extremely frustrated. "Sadly."

"I do!" The boy spoke up, making the two turn to him. "You have my sympathies."

"I appreciate that," The odd boy scout in knee socks responded.
