╰┈˚ · ° . THE HALLWAY OF THE SCHOOL was packed with students, but for once, I didn't mind it. Zyran, with an easy smile, talked on my side. His voice was the only thing that my ears could hear.

"Are you a junior too?" He asked tilting his head down slighter to look at me.

I hesitated for a second before honestly answering, "Yes, my parents wanted me to be in the same grade as my sister so I waited a year."

"So you're eighteen?" He asked.

"Yeah?" My reply was more of a question. "I mean almost. But yeah..."

His lips formed a grin, one that almost made my legs give out from underneath me. "At least I'm not the only one."

My eyes widened. "You're eighteen?" Maybe he was even older because he looked more like someone in  his early twenties.

"Yes, I moved around a lot so I lost a year." Zyran replied with a shrug of his shoulders unbothered by it.

I opened my mouth to speak but the words changed when I caught sight of my sister and her best friend, Bonnie Bennett. "Oh shit."

"It's not that deep." Zayran said with an amused chuckle.

"Not that-"

"I know." he laughed, "Who are they?" This time his gaze too was on the best friends duo.

I let out a small sigh as I answered, "My sister and her best friend."

"Do you not get along with your sister?"

"It's- It's difficult." I ended up saying as an answer. "It's not that we hate each other, we are just different."

"I get it." He said, feature softening as he looked at me.

For a second, I couldn't get my eyes away from his. He was hypnotizing in the best way. Fortunately, the tingle on my back was enough to distract me.

"This is the secretary's office." I said, nodding in the direction where both Elena and Bonnie were.

"Thanks Darlin'." He said with a sweet twist of lips. His english accent heavy on the two words. "I'll see you later." He left with a parting wink leaving me with eyes wide and cheeks warm and pink.

Oh shit.

╰┈˚ · ° . The day passed so fast that before I even knew, the last bell had rung. I had spent almost the entire day with Zyran. Sitting in class next to each other— apparently we shared the same classes— at lunch where I gave him the entire run down on the social pyramid of our school, and at the end of the day, he drove me back to my house.

Zyran was the most friendly person ever. He smiled often, laughed a lot and was definitely a charmer.

I had to actually refrain from frowning when he drove away.

"What's that smile?" Aunt Jenna's voice made me snap back to reality. Her own lips were pulled into a grin, hands on both her hips as he looked at me. "Did someone drive you here?"

I let out a laugh, narrowing my eyes playfully at her. "His-"

"So it is a him? Interesting."

I shook my head at her excitement, still smiling widely. "Yes. His name is Zyran and he is a new student. He moved here just a week ago."

"And?"

"And nothing Aunt Jenna." I laughed again trying to contain my blush.

"Is he your friend?" she wiggled her eyebrows, "something more."

"We just met!" I said amused.

"Well, never say no."

"Alright, alright. I need to go and do some homeworks and hope that Elena is not going to force me to go to the Grill tonight with her friends."

Hoping didn't work because in the end, I third wheeled Elena and her new flame. Stefan Salvatore, the other new student.

It was quite an awkward ride to the Grill— at least for me, because those two acted as if I wasn't even there— and the second the car parked in front of the restaurant-café-bar, I bolted.

Pop music was playing from the speakers, teenagers and adults alike shared the place. The Mystic Grill was a popular hangout spot in our town, so it wasn't unusual to see Matt and Bonnie, or Caroline and Tyler alongside the cheer squad and the football team.

Trying to pass unobserved was something not easily achieved with the lavender shade of my hair. And Caroline Forbes was a bloodhound.

"Oh Meda!" The blonde girl exclaimed, quite dramatically in my opinion. Her hands were on her heart as if it ached as she walked towards me with the most over dramatic expression ever.

Caroline Forbes was an insecure teen. And that, with the years, just transformed her into a person that I did not like. Spitting fake or and double-sided compliments and acting like a fake barbie. We had been friends once, but now, I had to stop myself from cringing at the sound of her voice. Sometimes I still hope that she could go back to the sweet and overachieving bubbly girl that she once had been, even if just for herself.

"How are you sweetheart! It's been so long. Are you okay? Of course you are not!" Her blue eyes were wide, and her chest rose and fell as if in panic, but the mask fell for a second when from the entrance door of the Grill, Elena, hand in hand with Stefan entered.

Oh shit.

I squeezed her shoulder in silent support, cringing when my panic rose in my throat and my hand felt like being punctured by millions of sharp needles.

I guess I wasn't so cured from my haphephobia after all.

I quickly side-stepped the blonde girl almost smacking face first into Tyler's chest.

Oh for fuck sakes.

"Tyler." I said, giving him a nod trying to pass him too. Not such luck as he blocked the side taking a step.

"Meda. You look gorgeous tonight. Even with all that makeup on." His eyes studied me from head to toe, heat traveling through them.

Gross.

You make a bigger line of eyeliner and you quickly are wearing ten pounds of makeup— I rolled my eyes at my own thought. I wished I had a full on glam makeup on.

I blinked my eyes at him and his sleazy eyes, opening my mouth to reply with a double-sided compliment too when someone else spoke.

"That was the worst compliment ever, mate. If this is your way to flirt with a girl you might want to rethink it."

Zyran.

The new student gave Tyler a friendly slap on the shoulder— it didn't look that friendly from the sound that it made when his hand landed.

Mate? Right, British people use that.

Then why did my heart skip a beat?

"Who the hell are you?" Tyler snapped, shoving Zyran's hand from his shoulder.

"Zyran." The guy smirked, showing his breathtaking smile. He didn't even spare Tyler a second glance before glancing towards me offering me his hand. "C'mon Darlin' I'm starving. Let's get something to eat."

I pursed my lips at the angered look in Tyler's eyes that was mixed with bewilderment as I accepted the man's hand. His rings cladded fingers intertwined with mine as soon they touched.

"Sit with us!" Elena's voice passed over the music and the chatters of people.

She was staring at me and Zyran, and with her, Caroline and Bonnie too.

Eyes sparkling with newfound interest, Caroline smiled brightly. "Yes, so we can get to know you. We insist." She was talking with Zyran.

The boy let out an easy and charming smile, and for a second I thought he was going to accept, but his hand tightened his hold on mine, squeezing it once before replying "We are good, thanks."

I'm pretty sure no one could stay angry at him with that smile.

"They are a curious bunch, aren't they?" he said under his breath, snickering slightly at his own words as we sat down at a table in the corner.

"You have no idea." I let out a smile.

"Do you think Tyler's ego is going to be fine?" He asked, leaning forwards. "He seems like the guy that hates to have their ego and pride wounded."

"He will be fine." Thinking about it for a second I then added, "Probably."

"Maybe it does not help that I refused his invitation for the tryouts of football." his grin lit up his whole face, lightening his dark hazel eyes and sharp features. One of his fingers slowly, almost hesitant, brushed a loose strand of hair away from my eyes. "I like your makeup, you are very good. I would not even know how to start to make a eyeliner wing that perfect And your hair, I really like your hair too."

My cheeks totally passed the rose color and darkened to a bright red shade. I could even feel the warmth that they emanated. "Thank you." I said. "Maybe someday I'll do it to you too."

"Yes, please. I can't wait."

A summer night. He was bright and warm like a summer night.
