The night of the performances is a rush, there are twice the number of staff rushing around the venue, and a few extra stylists for each group ensuring that everything goes absolutely perfect tonight.
But, no matter how much each team has practiced, and how well they suit the concept, it will be up to the national producers to decide who will get the chance to be a part of the finale.
Let's see how well each group did...
[ TEAM DUMB DUMB ]
ใ in the recording studio ใ
Zhang Weilan (13 // PLEDIS): Woah... this is so nice...
Kwon Choonchee (15 // Yuehua): I always knew they had one of these at the company, but I've never actually been inside one.
The trainees file inside and take a seat on the couch behind all of the recording and sound equipment. Two mentors enter soon after, accompanied by a sound technician.
Jeon Jungkook (Vocal Mentor): Hey everyone... how have your rehearsals been going?
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): Any tricky parts you want to work out before the producer arrives?
[ INTERVIEW ]
Park Athena (3 // PLEDIS): When they mentioned another producer coming... I wondered if they would be famous too. It's already hard to focus with the mentors around... but now another potentially famous person to worry about embarrassing myself in front of?

[ END INTERVIEW ]
Kwon Choonchee (15 // Yuehua): Could we maybe work on my rap parts a bit...
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): Sure! Let's go over it quickly...
Choonchee performs the rap part to the best of her ability, though it isn't the cleanest, she manages to get through all the words.
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): Is this your first time rapping like this?
Kwon Choonchee (15 // Yuehua): Yeah, when i trained the company only focused on my dancing and vocals...
Jeon Jungkook (Vocal Mentor): It really wasn't the best if i'm honest. You're getting all the words but it doesn't feel like there's any meaning behind them.
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): I agree. Rap isn't just about how fast or the flow of your words, you also have to show the meaning behind them. You have a naturally soft voice, but you'll need to be more forceful.
Jeon Jungkook (Vocal Mentor): Why don't you try again?
Choonchee performs her part again for the mentors, this time focusing on emphasizing words instead of just completing the verse. Though she trips over her words a few times, she seems more confident.
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): *nodding* That was better.
There's a knock on the door and the guest producer arrives. Who will it be?
[ INTERVIEW ]
Zhang Weilan (13 // PLEDIS): Ahhhh no way!! How did they get so many BTS members for this?

[ END INTERVIEW ]
[ INTERVIEW ]
Kwon Choonchee (15 // Yuehua): After I saw him come in all the confidence i had in my rap went out the window.
[ END INTERVIEW ]

The mystery producer is BTS Suga, who has worked with many artists to produce unique songs!
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Annyeong everyone... I'm here to oversee your recording today and make sure that everything sounds great on the recording for the performance.
Jeon Jungkook (Vocal Mentor): *hugging him from behind* Hyung! I didn't know you were coming in today... why were you late?
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): I was asleep until an hour ago when Namjoon told me that it was an emergency and they needed a guest producer... so i guess here i am.
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): We should probably begin before we run out of time in the studio!
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Right... what song is this again?
Kim Hyuna (Rap Mentor): *face palming* Maybe I should just... *she goes to take the producers seat*
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Don't you dare... I'm kidding *he smiles* I listened to the demo on the way here. Let's start from the beginning I guess.
Weilan is the first trainee to be called into the recording booth. She sing raps through her first set of lines.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): It's an interesting choice to sing through the rap... it gives the song a different vibe from the demo. But it plays to your strengths and that's the purpose of the song... *he pauses for a moment, thinking about what feedback to give her* Try it again, but add more emphasis on the end of the line, the same way you would if you were rapping it.
Weilan records her lines again. Satisfied, Suga gestures for the next girl to come in. Athena stands in front of the microphone nervously.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Are you also taking a rap part today?
Athena nods nervously, hands shaking as she grips the microphone stand.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Don't look so nervous, it shows in your voice. The problem is that none of you are confident in yourselves.
He gestures to begin recording and Athena takes a first attempt at her part.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): I appreciate that you actually rapped the part. The problem is that it sounds exactly like the demo, it's not distinguishable. It's obvious that you practiced it with the track, but this is supposed to be your song. It's not a cover anymore.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Park Athena (3 // PLEDIS): I guess I'm learning the downfall of practicing too much...
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Why don't you go practice outside with Hyuna and I'll record the next part.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Hwang Hayun (12 // IND): I felt really bad for all the vocalists that took rap parts... I'm really the only rapper in the group, and I should have helped them more. But if I'm honest, they all were really stubborn and wanted to figure it out for themselves, which is completely fair. I only wish that we would have figured it out before our recording session.
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Let's do the main rap part next I guess... who's that?
Hayun confidently puts her hand up. Also from Daegu, it's common knowledge that she was inspired by Suga to become a rapper, and she really wants to impress him. She nails the rap confidently in her first take.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): *impressed* That was actually really good. I think I recognize you from somewhere... have I heard you before?
[ INTERVIEW ]
Hwang Hayun (12 // IND): Wait... has he heard my mixtape?? All that promo and someone actually listened to it?
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): You're from Daegu right? You have a mixtape! I was listening to it a couple weeks ago... I really liked some of your beats.
Hwang Hayun (12 // IND): R-really?
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): Also I think that recording was good as is. Let's add some vocals to the track now.
While Hayun (still fangirling) makes her way back to the couch, it's Sora's turn to record.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): As the main vocalist, you have a lot of responsibility to carry the song through the rap parts.
Kim Sora (6 // JYP): I'll do my best...
She records the vocal line a few times before Suga seems satisfied. He records a few other parts, including Choonchee's and Athena's.
Min Yoongi (Guest Producer): I think that's all i'll need from you guys... good work. Good luck with your performance!

Park Jimin (National Rep): Let's bring out our first group performing Dumb Dumb~
Zhang Weilan (13 // PLEDIS): We're strong as lions, graceful as swans, we promise you we'll perform till the dawn!
Kwon Choonchee (15 // Yuehua): We have worked really hard on this performance for you tonight!
Athena (3 // PLEDIS): Let's go team! Fighting!

[ TEAM SUMMER DREAM ]
ใ the last dance practice ใ
The girls are already practicing when Tiffany and Hoseok enter the room to check on their progress.
Bae Chowon (11 // IND): I think we need to work on our formations the most, they're getting really messy.
Kang Hyunjin (5 // SM): But unnie... we've been practicing for so long, we're just tired...
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): *clearing his throat* Ladies, i hope you don't mind if we sit in on your practice?
Tiffany Young (Dance Mentor): You aren't too tired are you? We can just send the guest mentors away if you think you shouldn't practice anymore today...
[ INTERVIEW ]
Kang Hyunjin (5 // SM): So that was 100% the most embarrassing thing i have ever said in my entire life... why did I have to open my mouth??

[ END INTERVIEW ]
Yang Li Mei (9 // Yuehua): How about if we run the intro part again... that's the toughest formation to get right?
Kim Herin (14 // BigHit): Yeah... that part is pretty hard...
The girls practice for a few moments, aware of the watchful eyes on them.
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): I know I'm not really supposed to intervene... but you're all doing different footwork for this step... it's supposed to be like this *he demonstrates* Let's do it together!
Misae Nakamura (10 // JYP): Like this? *she still is doing it incorrectly*
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): Not quite... you need to start on the right foot.
After a few minutes, Hoseok is satisfied by their progress and let's the, continue their rehearsal, only to get interrupted again by their two dance mentors.... who will they be?

dancing legends from girl group twice: Momo and Sana!
Momo (Guest Mentor): Annyeonghaseyo everyone! *she waves*
Sana (Guest Mentor): Hopefully we'll be able to help give your performance a bit of extra flair.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Misae Nakamura (10 // JYP): It was a little bit weird to see Momo and Sana again... i trained with them both at JYP and now they're famous idols, and i'm still a trainee. I tried not to be, but it made me feel really self conscious.
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Momo (Guest Mentor): No way... is that really you Mimi! it's been so long! *she breaks her professional mentality to give Misae a hug*
Misae Nakamura (10 // JYP): Long time no see....
Momo (Guest Mentor): I'm sorry... after our debut and everything, we were just so busy.
Misae Nakamura (10 // JYP): No! I get it! We're not trainees anymore... but it's good to see you again!
Tiffany Young (Vocal Mentor): I hate to break up the reunion, but would you like to show the guest mentors your choreography?
Li Mei nods and signals for everyone to get into place. Hoseok turns on the music and they all begin to perform the choreography. After the first verse the, Momo signals to cut the music.
Momo (Guest Mentor): It looks good... but i feel like the formations are a bit weird... it's like there's always an empty hole.
Bae Chowon (11 // IND): Thats what we thought too! But that's the way they choreographer positioned us...
Sana (Guest Mentor): It looks unnatural... I don't think they'd mind if we changed it a little bit!
After working through some of the more complex formations, the mentors ask to see the whole performance.
Sana (Guest Mentor): Aww they are all so cute... and young... Who is the youngest here?
Kim Herin (14 // BigHit): *shyly raising her hand* I'm 13 years old... but Hyunjin is only a year older!
Sana (Guest Mentor): Wah... so young... i don't even remember what i was doing when i was thirteen.
Momo (Guest Mentor): Dancing probably... but you became a trainee only a few years later!
Tiffany Young (Vocal Mentor): Your expressions are all really good, but sometimes your technique is sloppy. While it's true most people will be focused on your faces, the dancing is extremely important as well.
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): I agree... you guys just aren't synchronized enough yet.
Momo (Guest Mentor): I feel like it would be helpful if your moves were sharper... or at least watch the person next to you.
Sana (Guest Mentor): Do you think you could try singing and dancing to the song for us?
Yang Li Mei (9 // Yuehua): Definitely!
The five trainees get into their positions nervously as Hoseok restarts the music. It's definitely not a perfect performance, but each girl is able to shine in her own way.
Tiffany Young (Vocal Mentor): I was the most impressed by Li Mei and Hyunjin's stability... they were the only ones who I could really hear getting all the notes.
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): Chowon, your dancing was good but your vocals started to get way off during your part... did you even practice?
Bae Chowon (11 // IND): While the other trainees learned their parts, I learned the choreography so i could teach everyone quickly.
Jung Hoseok (Dance Mentor): Still, you need to balance if you want to be a well rounded idol.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Yang Li Mei (9 // Yuehua): I don't know how, but somehow we ended up with all the savage mentors... I could really feel it taking a toll on the members. But, i know just what to do!

[ END INTERVIEW ]
Soon after, the four leave, allowing the team to continue their practice alone. Hyunjin, who had been holding back tears, hugs Misae tightly from the harsh criticisms.
Yang Li Mei (9 // Yuehua): I know that it seems like everything we do is not enough... but at least they're giving us feedback. If we were so terrible, they wouldn't say anything, but because they see the potential in us, they want us to be better.
Kim Herin (14 // BigHit): How are we supposed to be better than this? We've spent so many hours perfecting the dance, and now they practically want to change every formation.
Yang Li Mei (9 // Yuehua): Then we have to do it... i know that we have it in us to win this mission.
ใ onstage ใ
Park Jimin (National Rep): Let's bring out our second team with the ultimate cute concept, performing Summer Dream!
Summer Dream Trainees: Across the ocean, flying high through the summer skies. Hope you enjoy our performance like the warm California summer nights!

[ TEAM GET IT ]
ใin the recording studioใ
Shin Eunjin (4 // IND): Woah... it looks just like it does in movies...
Charlotte Ashbourne (8 // SM): What movies are you watching for there to be recording studios?
Shin Eunjin (4 // IND): Didn't you watch that one movie about the band... what was it called...
Choi Seohyun (2 // IND): Bohemian Rhapsody?
Shin Eunjin (4 // IND): That's the one! Anyway there's a scene with a recording studio, and it looks like this one... except this one is a lot newer.
The five girls settle into the leather couch as they wait for the mentors to arrive. This time, Namjoon and Chungha enter. Though Chungha is a dance mentor, she will also be helping with the vocals of the song.
Kim Namjoon (Rap Mentor): Good afternoon everyone, how are you feeling about the recording studio?
Kim Herin (14 // BigHit): This place is so cool! I wish we could have come here before...
Kim Namjoon (Rap Mentor): I guess you can consider yourself lucky then to have this amazing opportunity to record you first original song.
Kim Chungha (Dance Mentor): Is there anything you want to maybe go over before we begin?
Lee Chaerin (1 // BigHit): Well, since this song doesn't have a lot of rap parts, we were thinking that maybe the two rappers could take some of the vocal parts as well so the line distribution was more even.
Kim Chungha (Dance Mentor): I'm not sure if that's a good idea, even though this is an original song, the song has a natural balance already...
Kim Namjoon (Rap Mentor): We'll have to consult the Guest Producer to see what they think, but it could work out...
[ INTERVIEW ]
Lee Suran (7 // CUBE): Wait... there's going to be another producer to work on the song with us... i'm still terrified of the mentors but now there's someone else to worry about too?

[ END INTERVIEW ]
There is a couple knocks on the door before the guest producer arrives to help with the Get It mix.
Their guest producer is none other than singer BoA who has been lately been dabbling in producing and writing.

BoA (Guest Producer): Hi everyone! I'm here as the guest producer to help you mix your song well for your performance. Don't worry, I don't bite, but i am not going to tolerate slacking and not paying attention while recording.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Choi Seohyun (2 // IND): BoA was always one of my idols. She's such a legend... i'm scared to mess up in front of her... but i'm not too worried about the vocals... just the dancing later...
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Kim Namjoon (Rap Mentor): Before we start, the girls had an idea to change up some of the line distribution to make it fairer.
BoA (Guest Producer): That's what i was thinking after hearing the demo, but do the rappers feel confident enough in their vocals to perform the song?
Shin Eunjin (4 // IND): If i can interject- We came up with an adjusted version already... could we maybe record it to see how it sounds?
BoA (Guest Producer): Oh~ you've already figured out a new distribution... then that's fine to me. Let's go ahead and start with the opening verse then and see how that sounds.
Seohyun is the first trainee to go behind the glass wall and step in front of the microphone. She records her part with ease, considering it's not particularly difficult.
BoA (Guest Producer): That was pretty good... but to be honest it sounded like it was missing something... it just seemed a little bit empty.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Choi Seohyun (2 // IND): I didn't really expect that feedback... i had practiced my part a lot, and everyone said it was good... but i guess this isn't the first evaluation anymore, this is the difference to making it to the finale or not.
[ END INTERVIEW ]
Seohyun records her part again, but BoA is still not satisfied. She has Seohyun record for another twenty minutes until Namjoon has to tell her to take a break.
BoA (Guest Producer): We'll come back to that I guess. Let's have the main rapper up next...
Suran steps behind the glass to record her rap, which she has no problem with.
BoA (Guest Producer): I really liked your flow in the rap part. I prefer it to the initial demo version. Let's just go ahead and record your chorus part now too...
One of the line changes involved Suran singing one of the choruses. Unlike with the rap, Suran struggled with the stability of her voice when singing.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Lee Suran (7 // CUBE): I knew I was never the best singer... when I trained with CUBE i didn't even get vocal training because they didn't think it was necessary. I've sung more on รpanoui than I ever did as a trainee.
[ END INTERVIEW ]
BoA (Guest Producer): I don't think i'm a fan of this change... but i'm going to leave it up to you girls to decide.
[ INTERVIEW ]
Charlotte Ashbourne (8 // SM): We just wanted the line distribution to be fair... but now it looks like it might just blow up in our faces.

[ END INTERVIEW ]
Lee Chaerin (1 // BigHit): What if we supplement it on the recording so everyone sings the chorus... that way the rappers get a fair amount of lines?
Kim Chungha (Dance Mentor): That seems like a better choice to me...
So, BoA calls all the trainees behind the glass to record the chorus successfully. The next person to record is Charlotte.
BoA (Guest Producer): Even though you have few lines, you have some of the most important parts of the song... let's hear it.
Charlotte easily sings through her parts with no sweat.
BoA (Guest Producer): That was really good! I don't think we'll have to record that one again. Let's have the second rapper up here.
Eunjin carefully makes her way to the microphone. She is the most nervous of the trainees because she has never rapped before professionally (she supposed bts karaoke doesn't count). Her recording is the opposite of Suran's, her vocals are praised, but she struggles with the rap.
BoA (Guest Producer): Have you ever rapped before?
Shin Eunjin (4 // IND): No...
BoA (Guest Producer): It's pretty obvious... you're really nervous. It doesn't sound that bad, but your flow and tone is off. Your rapping with a fierce style, like Suran, but this should be more cool... almost like singing, but with more emphasis on the beat than the melody.
Shin Eunjin is able to get through the rap part after a couple more takes so BoA calls up Chaerin to record her high note.
BoA (Guest Producer): For this part you just need to be extremely confident.
Lee Chaerin (1 // BigHit): *nodding* That won't be a problem...
But to everyone's surprise, the first time Chaerin attempts the high note she falls just flat of it.
Kim Chungha (Dance Mentor): Are you okay Chaerin...
Lee Chaerin (1 // BigHit): I'm fine...
BoA (Guest Producer): How about we try again?
Chaerin sings the high note again, this time hitting each note with precision.
BoA (Guest Producer): Much better! I think I have all I need from you... good luck on your performance!
