A Royal's Tale: Part 1

A/N: Royalty au.

"I'll be back, I promise."

"You wouldn't."

"I will."

Love Stories always start at that phase, girl meets boy, boy meets girl, they fall in love, marry and have ten kids.

Except, Lilian Ivanna Evans, Lady of Evanstone and James Fleamont Potter, Prince of Gryffindor, didn't have the same story.

It all started when Lord Riddle, the Master of Slytherin, was gaining power. Lily's brother, Prince Jasper Evans, was strengthing Evanstone's relations with Gryffindor, as they had to defeat Lord Riddle.

Lady Lilian Evans was known as a kind-hearted, yet cold young lady. Fair and young she was, with flowing auburn hair like leaves in autumn and emerald eyes resembling constellations in the night sky.

Widely she was known as the Lady of Evanstone and many young men wanted her hand for marriage, all failed, of course. She was served by her most trusted maid, Mary MacDonald.

Her other friends included Lady Marlene McKinnon of Hogsmead, Lady Alice Fortescue of St. Merlin, Princess Emmeline Vance of Estel and Princess Dorcas Meadowes of Beauxbatons.

Talking about Prince James Potter, he was just as kind-hearted, brave and noble as the Lady of Evanstone. He had raven hair which was always windswept and his hazel eyes were hidden behind rectangular glasses.

Though few knew this, Prince James had always liked the Lady of Evanstone. His friends were Prince Sirius Black of Ilvermorny, Prince Remus Lupin of Ravenclaw and Prince Frank Longbottom of Hufflepuff.

It was a breezy day in mid-September when the army of Gryffindor, along with their King, Queen and Prince, stood at the great doorway to the country.

Away in the distance, a trumpet blew loudly and an army of Evanstone rode towards them. It was led by their King, Liam Evans, and beside him was his son, Prince Jasper Evans, who bore the banner of Evanstone: A silver swan with an emerald.

King Fleamont Potter approached King Liam and they shook hands, while Prince James and Prince Jasper gave each other curt nods and bows.

Then, James saw her. Lady Lilian of Evanstone.

She descended her snowy white horse and let Queen Euphemia kiss her cheek warmly. Then, Jasper introduced them.

"Prince James, this is my sister, Lilian," he said, smiling. James bowed and kissed her tender hand.

"Pleasure to meet you, Lady Lilian," he smiled. She smiled back.

"The feeling is mutual, Prince James," she said.

"I prefer James, if you don't mind," he laughed.

"Well then I prefer Lily, again, if you don't mind," she smiled.

The meeting went well enough, or so it seemed. They discussed Lord Riddle's plans, the army-building and several other things. More than once James glanced at Lily, for she was one of the most beautiful maidens he had met.

King Orion Black of Ilvermorny sighed.

"We believe, my lords, that Riddle may try to attack us on the night of Halloween, for the 31st of October is believed to be a...good day for killing people," he said grimly.

No one laughed, not even Prince Sirius or Lady Marlene McKinnon of Hogsmead.

The wise-woman of Gryffindor, and the tutor of Prince James and his friends, Minerva McGonagall, advised them to hurry up, for Riddle had already formed an army stronger than Evanstone and Gryffindor combined.

And then, they started. Started for the preparation of the greatest war of 1840.

Strangely enough, Lady Lilian found herself thinking of the young Prince more than more. He was charming, noble, kind, brave and good-looking, and she knew it. But she also knew that giving herself hope was pointless.

But she still did it.

Prince James was perhaps in more trouble than her. His mother, Queen Euphemia, had been giving hints about how she had sworn to get them together.

And he liked the young and fair maiden, too. But he just wouldn't go against her wishes and force her to marry him.

For preparation, the army of Evanstone was in Gryffindor since December. On a rainy day in mid-January, James found himself on the top of the highest watchtower in his kingdom, with Lady Lilian, alone.

"I'm worried, for this country and mine, and several others," she had told him, her fair face streaked with worry lines.

"So am I," James had answered. "But, you are not riding to war, Lady Lilian. Evanstone needs you. Now, don't stare at me like that, I've heard your talk to Lady Marlene!"

She drew herself up to her full height and glared at him. "You are no one to control me, I'll what I please," she said.

"Indeed not," James agreed. "But, if you love me, you are not doing that."

That caught her off-guard. She took a step back and stared at him in wonder.

"Maybe I do, but you clearly don't return my feelings," she said quietly.

And then, upon the very watchtower, in the falling rain, James Potter took Lilian Evans in his arms and kissed her, not caring about the rain or people that might see them, for he just cared about her and vice versa.

And after three months of courting, in May, war started. James was riding to it, of course. Just before the armies were leaving, he kissed her, long and hard, as though he would never be able to do that again.

"I love you, and I'll be back, I promise," he whispered, holding her gaze.

"You wouldn't." She wiped tears from her eyes.

"I will," he told her.

And so the armies, of Evanstone, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Ilvermorny, Beauxbatons, Estel, Hogsmead and St. Merlin, departed. James took one last look at Lady Lilian.

She stood proud at the gateway to Evanstone, sword raised in salute, in her battle armor. He also saw Sirius give Lady Marlene McKinnon a confident smile, and she returned it.

Looks like Ilvermorny and Hogsmead were to be merged soon.

Nevertheless, possibly Gryffindor and Evanstone would be merged too, if this war was won by them.

A/N: Would you kindly wait for part two? Please? It'll take time, so bear with me for a while. Take care and stay safe.

Love,

P. S: Highly inspired by Lord of The Rings.
