Season Two, Episode Seven
Something to Talk About
Maggie stood sporting her coffee in the biggest thermos she could find, she leaned against the counter right next to Christina and George, they were all commenting on the Derek/Meredith situation.
"Well, we have to do something. Merediths become, like, an exhibit like the- hey- like a zoo animal, like that rare panda that everyone stares at" George tells the group, struggling to peel his banana.
"Please don't say that to her face. I think that panda died alone" Izzie tells him with a scrunched face, while both Maggie and Christina laugh.
"This could just as easily be you if people knew about you and-" George leans in closer to Christina to make sure she heard but no one else did, "And you're dating Alex, which means this could also end up you but the dining alone part"
Maggie let out a mature between a gasp and a chuckle, looking at Izzie who seemed to make a face when he mentioned Alex, "I am not dating Alex"
"You take that back"
"You are so dating Alex and No, I'm just sayin' we should do something to cheer her up" George rolls his eyes at Maggie and looks back to Christina.
"Don't worry that little brain on yours Georgie" Maggie smiles, scuffling his hair a little bit.
"Its under control"
"What- What do you guys have goin' on?" George stutters.
"Nothing" The three of them say simultaneously.
"What?"
"Where's Karev?" Bailey asks the group as she walks up.
"Im actually not too sure about that, probably off somewhere not having sex with somebody" Maggie tells her bitterly.
"Lets go, O'Malley"
"Ahem. Hey, so, um, after rounds, we have something to how you" Christina grabs Merediths arm and whispers.
"Mere? Meredith, can you hear us?" Izzie looks closer at Meredith, probably thinking there was actually something wrong.
"She's not deaf, Izzie"
"Well, she looks weird" Izzie says back, a little worry in her voice.
"What do you expect? Her heart is broken and she feels like death" Maggie sighs at Izzie, sometimes, she wondered how the blond got this far.
"Exactly, Derek didn't pick her, she's gone mental" Christina says, agreeing with Maggie.
"Meredith, have you gone mental?" Izzie stops Meredith so she could look at her face.
"I have not gone mental" Meredith says looking back at Izzie.
"See? okay, she's fine. We have something to show you, so whatever you do, do not get assigned to a surgery this morning" Christina tells her with simple instructions.
"Its really good"
"Give it a chance, Derek" Addison says once she steps off the elevator, they didn't notice the intern standing in the middle of the hallway staring at Derek.
"I wouldn't want to be her"
Maggie groans and takes a step off the elevator to grab Meredith, "Oh get laid and mind your own business, you losers"
"Mrs. Kimberly Griswold, a history of heart disease and multiple surgeries, In for a beating Heart quadruple C.A.B.G." Christina says, presenting to Bailey first.
Maggie watches as Alex sneaks into the room, giving him a questioning look only for him to shake his head at her, "You're late" Izzie tells him.
"Karev, nice of you to join us today" Collazo turns to him with a hard voice, "Why keep the heart beating, Doctor Yang?"
"I don't know" Christina tells her but sounds sick as she does.
"What?" Collazo asks, looking at Bailey then back at Christina.
"I have no idea" Christina says again.
"Oh, I don't know, either. I just don't" Izzie follows after.
"Because of... ow. What?" Meredith begins to tell them why but instead, Izzie stomps her foot on Merediths.
"Anyone else?"
"Stress reduction because of the previous surgeries-"
"O'Malley" Collazo interrupts Alex and looks at George.
"I know- I know the answer" Alex interjects.
"Im asking O'Malley"
"Scar tissues too deep, the hearts too weak to start up again, so you only immobilize the portion you're working on and you leave the rest of the heart on its own" George finishes for Alex, making him leave the room in annoyance.
"Welcome to the case" Collazo tells him, handing him her file.
Maggie urges the rest of the group to follow Bailey out of the room, George walks the other way while the four interns huddle next to the wall, waiting to talk to Bailey after she was done scolding Alex.
"That isn't fair and you know it, she's punishing me for the elevator" Alex tells Bailey.
"She's pun icing you because you were late for rounds, you want to tell me why you were late?" Bailey pauses for a moment, letting Alex speak if he wanted too, "Dr. Shepherd needs somebody on his nerve case today. Go"
"And you four- brush up on how not to embarrass me in front of the attendings or ill see to it that your hearts stop beating. You clear?" Bailey tells the group, making it plainly obvious that she as not messing around.
"Sorry, Dr. Bailey. We really apologize" Christina tells her as she moves away from her.
"What is going on?" Meredith asks the three when they leave Baileys side.
"We found a case" Izzie tells her, walking down the stairs with a smile.
"You stole a case" Meredith corrected.
"Borrowed from Psych. Okay, the prelims- okay, this thing is totally unprecedented" Christina tells her excitedly.
"And we found it"
"Stole it" Meredith tells them again.
"Doesn't matter how we got it, just that we got" Maggie tells Meredith, siding with the other two.
"Okay, Meredith, behind this door is the coolest medical mystery I have ever seen, now you can either walk away, you know, guilt free or walk through this door, risk your place in the program, which could possibly lead to spending the rest of your life serving fries in bad clothing. So are you in?" The group are now stopped in front of the mystery door, awaiting Meredith answer.
"Hell yeah"
Izzie knocks on the door to let the patient know they were coming in, "Mr. Herman"
"Oh, no. Please call me Shane. I gotta hit the can- again. Seems like I gotta go every 30 seconds these days" Shane tells them, sitting up from his bed so he can go to the bathroom.
"Just a guy" Meredith looks confused.
"Wait for it"
"I sure am glad to be off that psych floor" Shane tells them.
"Whats for special?"
"Wait for it"
Shane stands up from the bed with a grunt, "Im not nuts, I'm just pregnant"
The three interns look at Meredith with small sales on their faces, "Pretty gnarly, right?"
Once Shane come back to the bathroom, they all move to help him back on the bed. "I was fine, and then last month. Huge belly. My doctor just kept telling me I was gaining weight with my wife. She's due on the 30th, its out first"
"Congratulations" Meredith tells him.
"The admitting intern shipped him off to psych, nearly did a physical . Hear that?" Christina tells Meredith a little fo the back story.
"Its not fluid"
"Theres something in there" Izzie smiles.
"Oh yeah, no joke. there's something in there. Ive been able to feel it gettin bigger and bigger growing in my... you know... my womb" Shane tells them, making them look at each other, "Yeah, I know I sound crazy, I do but I can prove it"
"This room is supposed to be unoccupied" A nurse walks into the room, "Whose patient is this?"
"Hers" Izzie and Christina point at each other.
"Who transferred him? I don't have any paperwork, any transfer documents"
"Gimme a break, we shuffle rooms all the time. You know, if we need a bed pan changed, um, we'll let you know" Christina tells the nurse and closes the curtain to close off the other half of the room.
"Okay, Doctor, you do that"
Maggie slaps Christinas arm, "Ow, what was the for?"
"Stop being rude to the nurses"
"Whatever" She rolls her eyes.
"Okay, where's his chart?" Meredith asks, "Don't tell me you don't have his chart. You steal a patient-"
"That was your job" Christina looks at Izzie.
"Yeah, I was on lookout. What about Maggie?" Izzie points at Maggie who was just quietly standing.
"Hey, I'm only along for the ride and besides, my job was to flirt with that male nurse so you two could sneak him in here" Maggie holds her hands up in defense, "And now I think the guy actually thinks he has a chance"
The three other interns look at her with a smile, "Oh, no.No. No. No. I am not flirting with him again"
Maggie knocked on the window to the file room, smiling at Raj when he looks up at her.
"Hi, Raj" Maggie says in the most flirty voice she could muster.
"Maggie" Raj stumbles as he sits up from his chair, "Dr. Shepherd, what brings you here?"
"Oh, Raj, always so modest. Im here to talk to you, silly" Maggie giggles into her hands, "Thats what I like about you"
"I thought we had a connection when we talked early, I thought I had just made it up" Raj shuffles to move closer to the window.
Maggie looks behind him to see if Christina got the file, when she holds it up, Maggie sighs happily, "Im a lesbian, sorry" She moves quickly away from the situation, making her way to her friends.
The four of them walk off of the elevator reading Shane Hermans file, talking quietly so nobody else could hear, "Hi. Hello. Hi. Meredith, maybe we could, you know, uh, talk" Derek looks at the three and then lands his eyes on Meredith.
Christina, Izzie and Maggie look at each other for a moment and then back at Derek, "No" They each say, pulling Meredith away from Derek.
"Okay"
They begin to walk at a faster pace, wanting to get back to their stolen patient, "Maggie! Mags!" Alex shouts but Maggie just ignores it.
"Hey, sweetheart" Alex yells, making her stop and turn around.
"What, Alex?"
"I was gonna ask you for a favor, you know? I thought since maybe you're better with people than I am, I thought maybe you could-" Alex's voice was soft and gentle, and for a second, Maggie faltered.
"No"
"Uh, you haven't even heard-"
"No, Alex. No. I am not doing you any favors" Maggie turns back around and walks away from him.
"Whats up with you?" Alex asks, following her down the hallway.
"I told her that I wasn't going to be that girl, the girl that begs a man to stay with her. I was okay that you didn't want to come into my apartment, it was fine but when I asked you why and if it was something I did, you just blew me off" Maggie sighed with frustration, "Look, Alex, my problem isn't that I need you because I certainly do not. My problem is that I wanted you, I wanted to spend time with you, kiss you, have sex with you but I'm not going to be with someone who doesn't want me back"
Maggie walks away and enters the Hermans room, she looked at Izzie who gave her a confused look which she just shook her head in return.
"Meet Shanes wife, Tina" Christina tells her, "She's also pregnant"
"Hi"
"Can you tell us what precipitated the psychotic episode that got you admitted to the hospital?" Meredith asks Shane when he walks out of the bathroom with his pee in a cup.
"It wasn't an episode, okay? and I'm not psychotic. I am pregnant. I mean , wouldn't you freak out of you were me? Honey, did you bring it?" Shane tells Meredith and then looks at his wife.
"Yeah, yeah"
"Oh, good. I can prove to everyone that I'm not crazy" Shane says, digging through Tina's purse.
"That is my patient" Raj opens the door and says.
"Yeah, well, he's outs now and if you want to fight me for it, I guarantee you I'll win" Christina walks closer to Raj as she threatens him.
"Okay, what is goin on in here?" Bailey says as she walks into the room.
"Dr. Bailey, just one moment" Christina walks over to Shane and pulls his shirt up, "Look at his abdomen"
"Its a make hysterical pregnancy. It's a psych case, and it's mine" Raj tells her.
"Its not hysterical, I am pregnant" Shane grunts at him.
"See? Psych"
"No, his belly is distended. Theres no signs of ascites and I clearly feel a mass with deep palpation- surgical" Christina argues back.
"Holy shit, guys" Maggie says, looking at the pregnancy test on the table.
"I told you I could prove it"
"Come on, you're doctors, act like it" Bailey tells them, clearly disappointed.
"Guys" Maggie says again.
"Psych"
"Surgical"
"Psych"
"Surgical"
"Shut the hell up. Shane took a pregnancy test and its positive" Maggie hold up the stick and shows Bailey.
"Well, he's definitely a surgical patient now" Bailey almost smiles, while the other interns do.
Everyone stands in Shane Hermans room as Addison listens to his stomach and a photographer take their picture.
"Do not think for a moment I condone stealing patients, that said, way to go" Bailey whispers quietly to the four of them.
"The first pregnancy test I took was a joke to make Tina laugh" Shane smiles as he tells Addison the story.
"Well, we didn't think it would lead to, you know, this" Mrs. Herman finishes for him.
"Mr. Herman, I can assure you, you are in no way pregnant" Addison tells him.
"Phew. Thats a relief- to hear it, you know, officially, but, hey, why was that stick blue" Shane sighs in relief but is still confused.
"Well, that's what we're gonna find out. Uh, Stevens, do a shotgun workup including tumor markers and get C.T. to make some room for us in line" Bailey tells Izzie.
"Whats this for again?" Shane asks while looking at the photographer.
"Medical journals, monthly case reports, annual banquet highlight reels" Maggie tells him, sneaking in closer to take a picture with him.
"Hey, whose pager is that?" Bailey asks the interns.
"Um, mine, but I found him so can someone else go?" Christina asks Bailey but Bailey looks like she lost her mind.
"No, we don't ignore pages, Yang" Bailey tells her, pointing towards the door when Christina was going to argue.
"We'll be finished soon, right Dr. Bailey?" Meredith asks her as Bailey poses for a picture.
Maggie sat with the rest of her friends outside while they ate their food, when George sets his plate down angrily, "A pregnant guy? You had a pregnant guy, and you didn't tell me?"
"Well, we can get you floor space in the O.R. for 50 bucks" Izzie tells him.
"You're selling tickets and we don't even know what's wrong with him?" Meredith looks at Izzie, sounding slightly disappointed.
"Whatever he's got inside has go to come out, we're just brokering a few deals" Christina hustles.
"Sort of like backstage passes, you want in on the cash?" Izzie looks over at Meredith.
"No, whose idea was this anyway?" Meredith asks.
Izzie and Christina look over at Maggie before looking down, "Of course, it was Maggie"
"I didn't get a pregnant guy. I was Burke's new go-to guy but that over thanks to you, he didn't know that I knew about you two" George looks over at Christina and complains.
"Stop talking"
"Why is Alex pushing the patient with him?" Maggie asks, looking over at him.
"Hi" The girl says when she gets pushed into the table, "Im Alex's charity case"
"Yeah, I like her already" Christina says aloud.
"Are you volunteering?" George asks him, thinking what she said was for real.
"Don't ask"
"Well, why not? Its not like we can suddenly read you mind and understand what you're think about" Maggie jabs.
"She's got a point"
"Oh! I am hungry!" Christina yells when her pager goes off.
"So this is cool. A re4al live lunchtime in a real cafeteria with trays and friends"
"We're not his friends" Izzie scoffs.
"Don't you have a cafeteria at you school?" George asks.
"Im homeschooled by my parents"
"That explains a lot" Alex says sarcastically.
"So are you guys the cool kids around her or something"
"What would me you think that?" Meredith chuckles.
"it seems like everyones talking about you"
They all look around to see everyone in the cafeteria stare and gossip about Meredith, "No, we are just the only people who can get a life" Maggie tells her, shouting a little at the end so everyone hears her.
Izzie, Meredith and Maggie stand in the scan room as Shanes scans pop up on the computer, "The guys and I were takin bets on who'd get to scan this dude, beers are on me tonight. next up, the wager on what this thing is"
"You're taking bets?"
"On what's inside his belly. You want in? 10 bucks"
"Its definitely not fat, food or a fetus" Maggie tells her, leaning forward to look at the computer.
"Jeez"
"Are those teeth?" Meredith asks.
"Christina's gonna be so mad she missed this"
"Look, mesenteric teratoma, Chief" Bailey points at Shanes scans so that the Chief could see what she was talking about.
"In an adult male" Maggie says in awe.
"Is this possible?" Webber asks.
"It is now. Large bilobed cystic lesion..."
"With a solid calcified structure" Maggie finishes.
"A deformed mandible" The Chief says.
"Labs show elevated H.C.G. levels, that explains the false positive on the pregnancy test" Bailey informs them.
"Which also means..."
"Its probably malignant" The Chief interrupts Izzie and says.
"You okay?" Meredith asks Shane, who was terrified of this whole situation, "You look a little green. I think he needs some air, Chief"
"Deep breathes, Mr. Herman" Webber tells him, trying to calm him.
"Just-most of this medical speak goes right over my head" Shane looks over at Meredith and tells her.
"You have wats called a teratoma, and it's really very rare in adults" Izzie smiles excitedly as she tells him.
"Which is also why you're so popular" Maggie tells him, "Its just a mass of cells, that has most likely been there your whole life, only now its growing"
"Yeah, growing jawbones and toenails and, uh, clumps of hair. Ive been listening"
"Its just no ones really talking to us" Tina tells them.
"Just about you. I know what that's like" Meredith sympathizes with them.
"Um, Hi. What's I miss?" Christina runs into he room.
"Ew, is that... is that rectal jelly on your scrubs?" Izzie looks down at Christina's scrubs in disgust. Christina groans when her pager goes off again.
"Dr. Bailey, all the attention, all the people are making them panic" Meredith whispers to Bailey, not wanting the Hermans to hear.
Maggie walks into Joes to see her group of friends sitting at there bar waiting for her, "Mags! There you are" Pat yells from across the bar.
"Hey, sorry I'm late" Maggie tells them, giving each of them a kiss on the cheek.
"Did you talk to Alex?" Kelly asks her, handing her a bottle of beer.
"He won't talk to her remember" Finley mutters.
"No I didn't talk to Alex, well he won't talk to me" Maggie tells Kelly and glares at Finely.
"So I heard Izzie and Christina made bets on this patient, made almost $500" Pat changes the subject.
"Yeah this guy came in claiming he was pregnant but it was just a teratoma, he'll be fine" Maggie shrugs, she didn't really care about them money.
"Okay, what is up with you?" Finely sets down her glass and stares at Maggie.
"She's sad that the boy she likes is an ass" Kelly gives her a pointed look.
"So? You're an ass too, you're really gonna let him go just like that?" Finley discards Kellys statement.
"Its not my job to make someone like me, Fin. Either they do or they don't, I've already spent my whole life wishing I was someone that people would want, Im just done" Maggie sighs, taking her beer and chugging it.
Maggie looks up at her friends when she notices that they weren't looking at her but behind her, "What are you guys- oh" She stops when she notices Alex standing a few inches from Maggie.
"Alex? What do you want now?" Maggie groans, turning back around to face her drink. She feels a strong hand garb the back of her neck and pull her back, suddenly Alex was kissing her, really kissing her.
"You're all I can think about and I want you" Alex whispers against her mouth, licking her bottom lip before lifting her back up, "Lets go to your apartment, shall we?"
Maggie doesn't say anything, instead she grabs her bag and stands from the chair, grabbing Alex's neck forcefully and bringing him down for a kiss. She felt everything just from the kiss alone. She felt lust, she felt wanted, she felt need.
"Let's go" Maggie tells him, grabbing his hand and leading him out of Joe's bar, hearing the hollers and cheers from her friends. This was something that she was going to talk about forever.
WOW......
That end scene gave me butterflies... holy shit.'
Lowkey jealous of Maggie
