"You're child is always your child."
The moment those words left my mother's mouth she regretted them. "I'm your child." Alicia muttered, "We're your children?"
The pain in our mother's eyes was nothing compared to the neglect we'd endured over the four years she spent chasing Nick. we understood, but it still hurt.
"I don't understand." Lee muttered, "He chose what's out there." He pointed over the city, his mother following his finger. "Over us!" his voice sent a shiver down our mothers spine, a resemblance of our father in his tone and eyes.
She pressed her eyes shut turning back to us. "Maybe he changed his mind." She argued,
"We never changed our minds," i muttered, tears welding in my eyes as i began to speak again, "We're still here. And he's out there." I shrugged, "Why isn't that enough?" With that Lee pushed past our mother, turning the generator off, despite our mother's interjections.
"Parents are supposed to love their children. All of them." A tear fell, though I was quick to wipe it from my cheek. Madison closed her eyes, muttering an apology I'd heard so many times before.
