as it was alexandra buffay's first day of junior year, she wondered what it would be like.

the girl barely got any sleep last night because the thought of junior year scared her.

while she laid on her bed, a thought came to her head.

"how's ricky?"

ever since his break up with nini, he has been a wreak. alex, big red, and sometimes charlotte, who barley like the boy, comforted him.

when ricky and nini got together, alex felt as if her heart broke, because only charlotte, her sister jasmine, her dad and big red knew she had a big crush on ricky, ever since he stood up for her when their teacher called her stupid. ever since then it's been ricky and alex, and then big red. charlotte came along when alex lived with them when her dad was on a business trip (she was young).

alex never knew why charlotte disliked ricky. she thought it was because he was like every other guy.

she didn't know why she thought of him, but she did.

alex then laid on her side as the wind from outside eventually helped her fall asleep.

"alex, get up. it's the first day."alex heard as she felt something hard hit her face.

"ow!"she said, sitting up and saw charlotte holding a pillow and laughing.

"lottie, stop it. what do you need?" alex said,  rubbing her eyes.

"first of all, get up, it's the first day, and 2, i picked your outfit so, get your ass up." lottie said, before grabbing alex by the arm.

"ughhh, let me cuddle my pillow, lottie." alex said, groggily.

"don't you have to meet up with ricky and big red in front of the school in like 45 minutes?" lottie asked.

"yeah but..."

"ah ah. no buts, get your ass in the shower and let's get a move on." lottie said.

alex rolled her eyes and grabbed her towel making her way to the bathroom.

after she finished her shower, she walked back to her room with her towel wrapped around her body.

"wait, alex. did you cut your hair?" lottie said, noticing the other girls short hair.

"yeah, i just wanted to cut it, you know?" alex said, running a hand through her wet hair.

"it's so freaking cute, but let's not worry, your outfits on the chair and i'm doing your hair, i don't care." lottie said, as she walked out her room.

alex looked over the outfit lottie fixed up for her.

woah.

alex then put on her outfit and tied one of ricky's flannels around her waist, as she put on her socks and shoes.

"lottie, i'm ready." alex said, sitting in front of her vanity.

not even a second later, lottie bursts through the room and stands behind alex as alex is playing on her phone.

"okay, so what should we do with this... mess."

"shut up," alex said, chuckling.

as lottie brushed through alex's hair and putting it in two braids, they talked about school, and boys, specifically ricky bowen.

"i know he messed up, but like he could have at least had a reason for dumping her." lottie said, as she put elastics in alex's hair.

"i know, and frankly, i don't like nini, but i get it from where she's coming from, ricky gave her no explanation on why he dumped her, maybe next time don't write a song for someone and post it on instagram. but then again, ricky wasn't ready, and he could have told her but he needed time to. ricky is very stupid but, i still like him," alex said, mumbling the last part.

"yeah, yeah, i know. i have a crush on ricky, i had a crush on him ever since kindergarten. i mean, when he and nini broke up, a part of me was happy. but sad too."

ALEXANDRA, JUNIOR

"don't think i didn't hear that." lottie said as she finished alex's hair and started working on her own hair.

"i was kinda hoping you didn't. i mean it's not like ricky would ever like me back." alex said, looking down.

"sweetie, let me tell you, ricky is a stupid boy who is oblivious to the fact that you like him. it's his loss if he doesn't like you back." lottie said, giving the girl a hug, before putting on her billie eilish beanie.

"she's right, you know."

the two girls looked up and saw alex's dad in the doorway.

"boys come and go, but friends are forever. if you really like him, give him some space, he needs time." alex's dad said, before giving both the girls hugs.

"thanks, dad. also where is jas?" alex asked.

"she's at school with her photography group." her dad said.

"oh okay. lottie, we still skating to school?" alex asked.

"yes ma'am. alex, if you wanna catch up with your lover boy, we gotta go now." lottie said.

alex stood up before hugging her dad again, and grabbing her phone, and her bag.

she grabbed her skateboard and her helmet before walking downstairs
with lottie.

as she grabs her house key, she hears her dad say something.

"have a nice day at school, you too."

"thanks, dad."

"thanks, mr. buffay."

as they walked outside, they see the boys waiting for them.

"i thought we were meeting up at school?" alex said before hugging the two boys in front of them.

"well, you were taking too long and charlotte texted us and told us to come here." ricky said.

"really?" alex said looking at lottie who looked away and laughed.

"woah, alex you cut your hair?" big red asked.

"yes, yes i did. 2 weeks ago." alex said as she got on her skateboard and rode away with everyone following her.

as they make it to school, they skate by this lady.

"sorry."

"our bad."

"you'll get over it."

"alex, that's mean."

"what?"

as they get to the front of the school, lottie went to catch up with some old friends.

alex took off her helmet and held her skateboard at her side.

"today's the day, it's happening." ricky said.

"hell yeah." alex said giving big red a high-five.

"junior year baby. might grow a mustache, might do a lot of things." big red continued.

"like what? playing video games in your room?" alex said.

"guys, i'm talking about nini, today's the day we start over." ricky said.

alex mentally scoffed.

"oh my gosh, we haven't even been to school for a full hour and the first thing he wants to talk about is nini. sometimes i wish they never broke up. i said sometimes. does that make me sound jealous?"

alex rolled her eyes slightly.

she zoned out most of the conversation, until she heard ricky speak.

"yo, nini, what's good?" ricky said, causing alex and lottie to cringe.

"how do you feel about right now?" kourtney, the girl standing next to nini said, causing alex to furrow her eyebrows.

"hey." ricky said.

"hey. can we talk?" nini said.

"oooh this is about to be bad i can feel it," lottie said walking up to them, as alex gave her a side hug, also shushing the girl.

"i met someone else at camp." nini said.

alex looked at nini with a cold stare, as lottie and big red held her back.

"i didn't plan for it to happen-" nini said, starting to explain herself.

"wait, are you joking-"

"still talking here." nini said.

alex was about to punch her lights out, lottie stood in front of her.

"i met someone at at camp, i didn't plan for it to happened but it happened. he was the music man, and i was marian the librarian. it's called a showmance." nini said. causing alex and lottie to scoff and roll their eyes.

"wait, you went to librarian camp? that's a thing?" big red asked.

"that's not important, red." alex said, sharply.

"please... tell me your joking." ricky said, the heartbreak in his eyes.

"i'm not."

"i'm not."

"red, shut up." alex whispered.

"come on, ricky, you know what you did, or what you didn't do." nini said. as both teens stood in silence.

alex remembered why they broke up, because nini told ricky she loved him on instagram, and ricky wanted to take a break, i mean, she was only gone for a month.

then the loudspeaker came on, startling big red and lottie as alex gave nini a death stare.

"i don't believe this, your blowing me off for a theatre punk you met at camp 4 weeks ago?" ricky asked.

"you kinda dumped me."

"it was a break, not a break up." ricky said, trying to to prove a point.

"i'm sorry ricky, but it's a break up now." nini said, as kourtney cheered.

"pop off girl."

"stay out of it kourtney."

"you stay out of it."

before kourtney could finish alex and lottie cut her off.

"don't talk to him." lottie said.

"so you can stay in your lane and go rehearse your lines like the dorks you are."

"im dismantling the patriarchy and im not afraid to start with the three of you." kourtney said rolling her eyes.

"well, two out of three can take you both down and i'm not afraid to throw these hands." alex said, getting ready to fight before ricky pulled her and lottie back as kourtney and nini walked away.

"ricky, i was so close to knocking her down, dude. so freaking close." alex said, looking at the sad boy in front of her.

alex gave him a hug.

"it's gonna be okay, let's just go to the assembly." alex said, as the group walked to the gym.
