After Happy and her had cleaned up her apartment a bit and stored the rest of the wall paint in the cellar he got a call from Jax who told him that he was needed at the clubhouse. At first he insisted that she would come with him but she had to go see Jesse and Walt since they hadn't talked yet about what Roosevelt had wanted from her.
It took a while until Happy gave in but eventually escorted her to the motel Walter White was staying in. He only let her go because her brother was there, otherwise he would've taken her with him to the clubhouse. While he made it's way to the clubhouse to see what Jax wanted from him, Madison knocked on the motel door waiting for Jesse or Walt to let her in.
It only took them a moment to open up, Walt stepping aside so she could come in. She felt his eyes on her and she didn't like the intense look he was giving her. There was also this weird smirk on his face neither her nor Jesse liked. He was a weird guy back then already but he was even weirder now.
“Hey dimples.” Jesse pulled her into his arms, letting out a relieved sigh. She was walking around and wasn't sitting in a cell, which was a good sign.
“Hey”, the brunette whispered with a small smile before she pulled away and sat down on the edge of the bed, looking back and forth between them. “I'm a free person, the case is closed.”
“Yo, you aren't joking, right?” Jesse's face lit up, a wide smile on his face as he held up a hand for a high five, which Madison gave him and chuckled softly.
“I'm not joking, I promise”, she assured him eagerly before her eyes landed on Walt, her body language changing towards the former chemistry teacher. It didn't matter how much she disliked him, he willingly saved her ass. “The witness retracted their testimony but I think your alibi was important anyway. So, thanks for doing this.”
“You're welcome, Madison”, he smiled, but it wasn't a smile that reached his eyes. Through his glasses he kept looking at her intensely, his arms crossed. “I didn't mind telling them such an interesting story. It wouldn't have bothered me either if it was really true.”
Madison scoffed at his comment. Of course he had to lead the conversation in an awkward direction. Even Jesse let out a scoff and glared at the older guy.
“She's my sister, yo! Stop hitting on her in some creepy ass way, Mr. White”, the older Pinkman's tone defensive and protective towards Madison. “She's taken, by the way. You have no chance.”
“I am?” Madison raised a brow at the information she just got. “Great that you know that before I do.”
“Oh come on, as if you and Happy aren't together”, Jesse wiggled his eyebrows with an amused smirk plastered on his face, nudging his sister's arm. “He's good for you, dimples.”
Once again she started blushing at the mention of Happy. They didn't even know each other long enough to get together, right? Sure, there was some shit like love at first sight but both of them weren't the types for this to happen. Yet her heart told her that's exactly what she wanted.
“I'm sorry to interrupt your lovely conversation, but we have to leave soon”, Walter interjected and pushed himself off the dresser before giving Madison another wink. “Maybe we'll see you again in Albuquerque.”
“Wait, you have to go? Now?” She looked sadly at Jesse and sighed. It was only a matter of time before her brother would leave and go back home again. He had only been here because of her birthday and yet Madison had hoped that he would change his mind and stay.
“Yeah, sorry...we have to go back to work”, Jesse sighed, adjusting his beanie on his head. “But I'll be back as soon as I can. And you have to get your furniture anyway, so I'm sure you'll be back home for a few days, right?”
“Mh..yeah. I wanted to plan a trip to Albuquerque in the next few days so I can get my furniture. I don't want to sleep on the floor forever”, she smirked slightly before her features hardened again and became more serious. “Before you leave, I want to know what's this between you two. Why are you even in contact? And why was Mr. White willing to help me?”
She didn't care who explained the strange situation to her as long as one of them would do it. Madison wasn't stupid and knew that the two didn't just suddenly become buddies because they felt like it.
“You don't say a word when you're not sure you can trust her”, Walt hissed at Jesse, who was clearly torn. Walter's tone towards Jesse in turn infuriated Madison.
“First; don't talk to him like that. And secondly; I'm his sister and probably the only person he knows that he can really trust”, the brunette snorted. With statements like that, she couldn't help but feel offended.
“No offense Madison, but I hardly know you. How do I know I can trust you?”, he asked oddly calm, his hands clasped behind his back.
“Because yesterday I confided in you about something that could get me in jail”, Madison countered stubbornly, raising an eyebrow. “So you always have something on me. Also, Jesse is the most important person in my life. I wouldn't do anything that might get him in danger.”
“If you say so”, Walter sighed, leaning against the nearest wall. “I hope you keep your word and don't say a word about it.”
“Thanks Mads”, Jesse smiled, nudging her shoulder lightly with his again, which was his way of showing that he appreciated her. “You have to promise me not to be mad and not to judge me, okay? Because I can't lose you.”
“Now you're scaring me, Jesse”, the brunette murmured, but eventually nodded, putting her hand over his to calm his nerves a little. “What's going on here?”
“Walt and I cook and sell meth together. We started a few months ago, that's why I suddenly didn't have as much time anymore.” Jesse had decided to just rip the band-aid off and get this over with. He looked at her nervously, bouncing his leg, scared and curious at the same time about what her reaction would be.
“Yeah sure, and I'm Santa Claus”, Madison snorted a laugh, but her jaw dropped as Jesse remained serious and she quickly realized that what he just told her wasn't a bad joke. The brunette wanted to say something but she never found the right words.
“You're serious about that shit”, she stated cautiously, running a hand over her face, being careful not to smear her makeup all over it. “Do you have any idea how dangerous this shit is?!”
“Totally serious”, Jesse murmured. “Of course we know what a risk this is, but it also brings us a lot of money and Mr. White needs it so that he can leave something for his family”, he added sheepishly.
“I have lung cancer, the chances of recovery are poor. And I had to do something to raise money for my family quickly before I'm not able to do that anymore”, explained Mr White, quite calm about being terminally ill.
“I...I'm sorry about that”, Madison said, genuinely touched. Even though she didn't like Walter, she didn't wish anyone such an illness. And she felt bad for his wife and son. “But why is my brother involved in all of this?”
“Because I asked him to help me”, the older one replied, giving Jesse a warning look after the younger man had snorted. It was obvious that Jesse didn't join the meth business voluntarily, but she would talk to him about that when they were alone.
“Asked him, huh? And why exactly? You never liked him”, she asked, her body tense.
“Because he has the street knowledge. He knows how to talk to dealers and junkies, how to sell them drugs. Also, he's good at making meth, at least with my help.” Walt looked almost proud as he talked about his new business, what Madison found really terrifying. Not the meth cooking per se, but that it was none other than her old teacher who had suddenly become a criminal but always scolded them for being the way they were back in highschool.
“We are a good team, Mads”, Jesse chimed in, squeezing Madison's hand, a pleading look in his eyes. “I need the money too. And if you ever need anything I'll give you whatever you need.”
The brunette took a deep breath and massaged her temple with the hand that Jesse didn't hold in his. “How dangerous is that for you? You probably meet dangerous guys all the time, right? What if one of them attacks you? Or much worse, what if someone kills you? That kind of shit happens all the time doing stuff like this!”
“Jesse and I know what we're doing”, Walter assured her, who she was mad at anyway. He didn't have much left to lose, after all he would be gone soon anyway. That sounded harsh, but that's how it was. Her brother, on the other hand, wasn't even thirty yet and still had his whole life ahead of him and Walter White had no better idea than bringing her brother into the meth business.
“Oh yeah?”, she asked mockingly.
“Yes Mads. I know it's hard to believe, but we've got this under control”, Jesse spoke, his voice far more convincing than Walter's. “I'll explain everything in detail when you come home in the next few days, okay?”
What was she supposed to say? She couldn't tell him what to do and what not and after everything Jesse had done for her, she definitely wouldn't let him down now. Either way, he was her brother and she would always stand by him no matter what he did. But that didn't change how concerned she was.
“Probably a good idea. I think I have to let that sink in first anyway”, she nodded slightly and was then pulled into Jesse's arms. Sighing, she wrapped hers tightly around his neck and stayed in that position for a few moments. Now it was even harder for her to let him go, now that she knew that he actually lived with a certain risk.
“Take care of you, promise me”, she murmured against his oversized hoodie and buried her face in his shoulder for a moment before breaking away from him and clearing her throat. “Call me when you're back home, okay?”
“I always take care of myself. And I'll get in touch as soon as I'm home”, he promised her with a slight smile and got up with her.
Madison gave Walter a short nod and thanked him again for the alibi before she left the motel room with a heavy feeling in her stomach, got into her car and drove to the club. She had made her decision about the note that was in her car today. Happy needed to know, she didn't want any more secrets.
