Chapter Forty-Seven:
( life at hogwarts )

*・゚

WHEN PEOPLE THINK OF Blaise Zabini, they might figure that he is a complicated person— his personality filled with complexities. Blaise does not see himself that way. In fact, he thinks he is rather a simple young man. He does not keep it a secret that he finds majority of his peers annoying, uninteresting, unintelligent (generally, the list could go on for ages). That is not complicated at all and he knows that it is written on his face. Is he a person filled with complexities? His answer is no, but apparently others say yes? He does not understand why. Sure, he hates showing emotions among others but that is because people should mind their own business and the only way they leave him alone is by assuming he does not like them (sometimes they are not wrong, other times he just does not care). Perhaps he would not be so distant if people in his first-year had not asked him 'is it true your mother killed/kills all of her lovers?' The amount of times some random student asked him that (of any year he still remembers the ones he sees everyday—like fuck you Crabbe, Goyle, Smith) irked him to no end that he punched two people because of it (now that he thinks about it... one of them had been Smith. The other? Well, funny story...).

Anyway, Blaise still does not see why he can be considered complexed. Is it because he rarely smiles? Blaise does not see why he has to smile all the time. There is no point to it. If he finds something amusing he will raise his eyebrows, smirk or maybe even snort to indicate that reaction but smile? Laugh? It feels almost forbidden to do that at school and yet there is one person who makes him feel that maybe there is a reason he should smile and laugh. Spencer Montague, a girl he has known of since his first-year but never really interacted with until fifth. It is odd to him how she found her way through the layers he has around his heart and snuck up on him like nothing.

He had to be honest. Blaise Zabini never really thought of Spencer as nothing more than a pretty and intelligent girl from Ravenclaw. He knew she came from a pureblooded family and that her sister is in the same house as him— nothing else. For the longest time, he was okay with not knowing much about either of them. And then, as life occasionally reminds him, he did the worst thing he has ever done in life. Some people do dumb mistakes and regret them— this is his: dating Morgana Montague. It is a memory he wishes to forget every single day because yes, he has kissed her before and maybe even made out with her. Does he regret it? Absolutely! He never truly liked her and those actions were just done hoping that he will somehow find a way to find something admirable about her, or to distract him from everything else. Blaise wanted to make his mother proud by finding a girl and yet he only found himself annoyed with the Slytherin above him. Though, maybe there is a slight benefit in having been in a relationship with Morgana— and truthfully, he is surprised to even admit that himself. While dating her, he has come to realize that there is one person Morgana hates with all of her soul (does she even have one?) apart from muggles, muggleborns, and bloodtraitors (the amount of times she spoke bad about them is one of the reasons why he thinks they are not bad at all).

At that point in time, he was not sure if he was annoyed by how many times he heard 'Spencer' (or any horrid nickname she has for her) come out of Morgana's mouth or if he was rooting for the girl that the Slytherin despised endlessly. It is then when he began noticing Spencer Montague more than he should— but he never went past just noticing her raise her hand up to answer questions or talking with that best friend of hers or helping other students when they need it.

And then fifth year everything completely changes. That is when he started talking to her and for some reason he saw her at what he assumed had been her worst. Of course, not in looks because she still wore the same beauty, but it seems that everything hit her at once and her suffering only increased since then. Despite telling himself not to care for her or to befriend her, Blaise does the opposite. And they had troubles along the way because he became annoyed by how she cares about everyone else except herself and then... they made up! Blaise never thought he had it in himself to have an actual crush and yet out of everyone in the world, his ex's sister practically ran him over with a train and showed up in his mind. Having thought he would never get a crush, he quite literally had no idea what to do. Though, perhaps that is the best thing to have happened to him because there is only one girl who can get him to grin widely or realize that the world is not so bad when she is with him.

So, if you ask him: What is Spencer Montague to him? The easy and simple answer to give is his girlfriend. However, every time that question runs through his head, there is one that goes beyond just the simple words. Spencer Montague is a blessing presence that lights up his own dark world— she has her own demons that he would throw himself in front of for her, but to him? She is his universe that allows him to feel every single type of emotion and somehow only care about one. He is nothing but a single star that glows just for her. And he did not think it is possible to even feel such strong emotion for anyone— and how even if there are hundreds of miles apart she is on his mind at every chance it gets.

Well, to be completely honest, he has no idea how far apart they are. One second, he is telling her how there is no way they will break up because how dare she? How dare she somehow find a way into that cold heart of his and suddenly expect him to be okay with breaking up? He knows they will not see each other for who knows how long, but he will rather fight the devil himself instead of letting her go out of his heart (he does not even think that is possible). However, he cannot even finish what he was about to tell her because then a Patronus appears in front of them and the Death Eaters are coming— everyone panics and suddenly they are already separated and his hands are close to touching her— so, so close and even then they miss each other by merely an inch apart.

Panic takes over in all system and he freezes completely forgetting that Death Eaters have just appeared before he shaken by strong hands and his eyes are staring right at Theodore Nott. Blaise, at the second, remembers what is happening because of the frightened look on Theodore's eyes and he Apparates them out of the party and back into his front steps. And that is when it all begins. The start of something no one realize will be close to the end.

Blaise grabs onto Theodore while the other boy stumbles almost face down on the ground. He holds him up until Theodore lets go and makes sure no one followed them around— he waves his wand to expose anyone and only a light pointing on his house house alerts them that they are safe knowing it must be his mother. The taller boy releases a sigh before pulling the frozen-struck housemate of his into his house alerting his mother that they are back home. Blaise is not surprise to find her already heading downstairs obviously worried at how the entered the door like if they were being chased.

"Blaise, honey, I thought you and Theodore would have stayed there much more later," Esmeralda Zabini speaks in a gentle voice, her figure staying by the stairs, her hand resting on the rail while she stares at the two young Slytherins. Blaise's mother is known to the Wizarding World as one of the most beautiful witches to have exist— and he wholeheartedly agrees because that is his mother. He takes pride in being her son for the reason that they share the same beauty and of how strong she truly is. Still appearing young despite being in her late thirties. Her hair is lavishing and curly, radiating bright with pure naturalness. Skin beautifully dark and glowing. Being in her presence is simply a blessing and that is how Blaise felt growing up. It is why he is incredibly proud of himself and knows his own worth because his mother taught him well with her always finding ways to be honest and kind.

There are rumors of her killing her husbands— and Blaise will admit his mother did kill one. However, just one. Not the six others. Those, she made them flee by cursing them to fake their deaths (which is actually even more awesome). It is not like his mother denies or agrees with the statements since she simply adores the way they think of her as incredibly beautiful and dangerous. A deadly combination.

Any who, yes, his mother did kill one of of his 'step-dads' and he may have witnessed it, but it was completely self-defense. And if anyone would to find out then he would defend his mother because he is actually quite smart himself and knows that what his mother did was to defend the both of them. See, Blaise usually tends to hate the men she chooses to date. His mother is a hopeless romantic and yet wanders to the hungry-powered men with money (even his own biological father turned out that way!) instead of some nice one. It is not her fault. She just has a type, unfortunately. And so the one that she actually killed turned out to be an abusive (okay, most of them turn out the same and when Blaise notices he brings it up to his mother and somehow with his words she has the courage to fight them away) son of a bitch and he had the audacity to actually take out a weapon. Blaise started the the fight— his mother ended it.

And no, she did not use the Killing Curse, but instead killed him the muggle way. Spencer never asked if the rumors were true about his mother killing her lovers— and Blaise was relieved about that because she somehow knew he did not want to talk about it. Though, that also means she does not know how he witness someone die although she does know he had.

Recalling the question his mother asked, Blaise glances up at her and answers breathlessly, "Death Eaters arrived and with Theodore..." He trails off toward the end as he motions to the boy beside him. His mother softens her gaze and nods sharply, continuing down the stairs toward the two boys. When she reaches them, her long gown follows her on the back and she brings them toward the kitchen to make some tea.

Blaise untucks his shirt and takes off his tie, his outfit now appearing disheveled which he never allows it to appear that way unless he is home or on his way to bed. Theodore stays with the same outfit as he massages his temples to get him to start working again. His mother does not start asking questions until she gives the two a cup of tea and they take a sip on it.

"Well, did the two of you enjoy the time before they arrived?" Esmeralda asks, pouring herself a cup as well while she sits opposite from them. The thing about his mother is that she can care less about muggles, but does not want them dead. She does not announce her judgements knowing it can potentially endanger her and her son, and thus, they usually watch from the sides. However, at every chance she gets at her own home, she mutters her displeasure.

Blaise wonders back to him dancing with Spencer and he automatically smiles. His mother watches him silently and chuckles, bringing him out of his thoughts about Spencer. "Truly, when can I meet your girlfriend, Blaise? You have only ever described her and I've yet to meet her!" His mother exclaims brightly.

A small frown makes his way onto his face. "I'm not sure that is possible in the meantime, mother," he warns softly. His mother raises an eyebrow curiously and urges him to go on. Blaise stares at Theodore and he shrugs having no problem sharing the information with his mother. "She's... remember Morgana?"

Esmeralda immediately cringes at the reminder and nods solemnly. "Oh, I hate that family of theirs. Out of everyone, Blaise... you picked the girl who least cares about feelings— I even know that without having met her!"

"Well," Blaise starts off slow. "I'm dating her sister."

Theodore snorts in amusement and covers his mouth at how horrible Blaise just told his mother who he is dating (he seriously could not find a better way?). Esmeralda blinks and stays quiet for a couple of seconds before nodding. "I don't hate her family...?" She offers quietly, unsure of how to process the fact that her son is dating the sister.

Theodore finally joins in the conversation and shakes his head. "No, no, we hate her family. Strongly. With a passion except Spencer," Theodore corrects her politely, tilting his head toward Blaise. The taller boy nods in agreement.

His mother hums in understanding before questioning, "Who was that man that picked the two of you up, then?"

Blaise and Theodore shared a look before they answer, "Daniel. Wizard profiler and her brother, but not many know that second part, so if we can keep it between us...?"

"Alright," she promises, "But why can I not meet her? And how about yours, Theodore?"

The two boys share a similar solemn look and then stare back at her. "They're best friends with Harry Potter," Blaise and Theodore respond as if that is quick to answer all of her questions. In hence, it technically is because they all know that anyone remotely close to Potter is most likely in danger.

Later that night, it is decided that Theodore is definitely not returning back to Hogwarts with the corrupted Ministry now having access to Hogwarts. Blaise is not sure how long he stares up at the top of his ceiling for. He does not care much about house status and whatnot, but Blaise supposed he takes pride in being in Slytherin. Not because he's better than everyone else (technically, he is), but because his mother had been one as well. His room's wall is painted gray with some dark green furniture. Drawings from famous artists and some from himself are hanging up around the wall. Bookcases arranges on the side where he has them neatly stacked and showed. Though, for some reason, he just stares up at his ceiling that has the stars outline. He waits and waits for the necklace that he is wearing to alert him that Spencer escaped the party without harm. He knows it is most likely the last time he will see her in awhile, and so he stays awake despite how late it is getting just to hear— something, anything.

And in the midst of his dark room, a sudden nervousness fills up in his nerves and he furrows his eyebrows in surprise before glancing down at his chest. There, a small glow is shining through and despite everything, relief takes over and he touches his own to send her his warmth and tell her in some way that him and Theodore are alright. Blaise lightly smiles, his hand clutching onto the stone knowing she needs the comfort more than him. And in time, he can feel her slightly relax and hopefully dozing off to sleep.

.・:*:・゚'✫,'✫'゚・:*:・˙

BLAISE SHOULD HAVE SEEN it coming but he still hates it. If there is only one thing he can answer when someone asks what he has learned about Spencer Montague is that she is absolutely too caring for her own good. And what she is doing now is prime example of that. He is not dumb. Sometimes, in the middle of night he can sense his necklace glow despite him having already tried to communicate with her before going off to sleep. She usually does not answer and it is not until it is late at night when he is already sleeping that his conscience tells him 'she's awake!' but he does not answer back simply because he knows it will scare her off. It completely ruins him that every time she does, she is scared or tired and he has no idea how to help her. He has no idea where she is. It is just their senses coming together at once.

He did not want to return to Hogwarts, but alas he knew he had to either way. Especially when the Ministry made it mandatory for every pureblooded and half-blood wizard to go to Hogwarts or if they do not, they are most likely heading on the run. Blaise knows better than to danger his mother and Theodore— who he may have gotten closer to but will never call him 'friend' in front of him. Somehow, they actually have cool conversations and it easy for them to 'get along' when they care about the same person. And there is also the fact that Theodore is a good friend but again... he will never admit that to his face. Blaise hates that Theodore did not join him in returning to Hogwarts, but by the looks of it, the place will be crawling with Death Eaters so he cannot blame him. He never expected to not be enthusiastic (not that he was usually joyful about it) to return back to Hogwarts— and yet he knew it was going to be his worse year when the newspaper released that Morgana Montague would be returning as an assistant to the Carrows.

Blaise finds himself sitting with Pansy more than Draco. He didn't know how to act around his best friend. For one, he hates how he is a Death Eater. And yet for the other, he is worried about him because he still appears dead and if even possible, more exhausted than anything. Thankfully, however, Crabbe and Goyle are now always surrounding him finding it intriguing how Draco is the one with the mark. Blaise finds himself glaring at his best friend's Mark anytime they are in the common room.

He did not know how absolutely right his guesses were to be for the school year. The newspapers were right. Professor Snape upgraded into being their Headmaster, Professor McGonagall degraded into being a simple Transfiguration professor. The Carrows are now known as Deputy Headmaster and Headmistress. Morgana walks and owns the ground with her wicked face now being plastered all around for everyone to see. Punishments were no longer just detentions where they do simple lines or clean (except if you go to a professor that was already there like McGonagall, Flitwick, Sprout, Slughorn— they tried their best to take care of the detentions) and if they head to the Carrows, they will use a blood quill (that is technically the minimum since they would do much more worse and the stories he has heard...). If they head to Morgana, she would punish them ruthlessly. He swears he hears the kids cry about being done the Cruciatus Curse, being burned, or them being chained on a chair and being Stunned repeatedly.

And has she approached him?

The answer is yes. Multiple times. Her fingers trail after his robes seductively trying to get him to act out and reveal what occurred to Spencer. To reveal when was the last time he saw her. Blaise pretends not to care about Spencer. He smirks at any dark thought Morgana has about her when all he wants to do is curse her for even saying anything bad (the amount of times he thought about murdering her all because he hates her for what she has done to Spencer). Blaise ignores her taunts and gives her declines or vague answers. Where is Spencer? Where is Theodore? Sometimes, Draco asks that as well and despite not knowing why his best friend wants to know, he lies to him too.

Though, sometimes he thinks Draco knows him too much as well. That he knows Spencer still means so much to him more than they ever realize, but thankfully, he only accepts the answer knowing why he is doing it. The only person he has told about how much he misses her surprisingly turns out to be Pansy. She is a hidden romantic and after swearing that even if she gets tortured to the point where she is almost dead, she won't say anything, Blaise finally cried out about it (and this is not an exaggeration because fuck, Spencer is the one making him feel every type of emotion). About how much he misses her and how all he wants to do is leave school and go on the run with her. Fortunately, and surprisingly, Pansy advices him not to. That he can help Spencer by being on school grounds.

Blaise didn't know how. Not until Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom went up to him at a time where no one else was in the certain room. And it was that day where she asked if he wanted to be a part of Dumbledore's Army— the one Potter made on their fifth-year. He warned him he can not show his contribution with them and they agreed. And since that day, Blaise helped any young students from gaining a detention or anything of the sort. He saved them from being caught under Morgana's wrath and doing all of that, he was always kept hidden.

That is only until October. It became difficult keeping it hidden that he was part of the group causing a rebellion. Especially when the Weasley, Longbottom, and Lovegood were caught by Snape and apparently, they had been stealing the Sword of Gryffindor. Later on, the redheaded girl informed him that Potter needed that for his quest and she knows that because she had overheard Dumbledore's will (and she mentioned Spencer having received something as well).

Pansy helped him stay undercover, however, so his help still continues being kept a secret.

One would think that by the day everything would get easier. Except to Blaise, it is the opposite. He continues missing her, remembering back to the times where they would go up to the Astronomy Tower— he does not do that anymore. There is no point in it. If he does, he would feel sick knowing Dumbledore had been killed right at that spot and not just that, but it is not the same without Spencer. He misses her rambling, the way she can remember a book and simply reread to him without staring at it. Her voice so calming and that smile of hers. Beautiful and kind.

As the days pass, Blaise always tries to give her a slight sense of hope and warmth. She does not respond until he is sleeping. Yet, either way, he still wakes up every time he feels her and then his heart falls because Spencer's sadness and misery only increases. He does not think anyone in school feels the slightest of happiness either. Thankfully, the Death Eaters does not stop the holidays and Blaise was glad when he returned home for Christmas break.

The first thing he did upon arriving home was hug his mother and then— surprising to everyone— he even hugged Theodore. The other male had been caught off guard, but he returned it awkwardly having no idea they were in that level yet despite mailing each other often. Even though he is home, Christmas is not the same and he can only blame Voldemort and his followers for that reason. His mother keeps a radio where apparently there is a hidden station called Potterwatch. Theodore and him immediately figured out that Lee Jordan is the host of it and can guess for the rest of the participants. The shorter boy gave him a smaller radio and reminded him that the passwords are always something to do with the Order (told him it was to take to school and to be smart around it).

Blaise and his mother have this tradition where they stay up past midnight to celebrate Christmas since it is just the two of them— this time Theodore became a part of it. He sits beside the male while they talked about what daily stuff happened around Hogwarts and how Theodore should be glad he did not return. His mother gasped in horror at how terrible the students are being treated and it appeared that she was about to barge in before he reminded her that the school is now taken over by Death Eaters and that he had to be there.

Around late at night of Christmas Eve, he sits beside Theodore quietly. Everyone is still awake drinking some eggnog, but he is staring at the fire in thought. Blaise has not heard much with Spencer. His heart is filled with worry and nervousness not knowing how she is and if she is okay. Is she safe? Is she warm? Does she know it is Christmas? Does she know that he— no, she does not but he hopes that she... Questions runs through his head and are left unanswered. His hand goes up to his stone wanting to let her know that he is worried and nervous that she has not communicated with him— and truth be told, he is not even awaiting a response from her because she never gives him one right away until she figures he is sleeping.

And then, he gasps in surprise when right away, the worry and nervousness he sends her is replaced with different emotions that are not coming from him. Theodore raises an eyebrow at him curiously before his eyes fall onto the glowing necklace.

"What does that mean?" He questions what Spencer is feeling knowing the way the necklace works.

Blaise frowns for a few seconds. "She's... stressed and is filled with unsettledness..." he murmurs quietly. That is not all she feels and the next words he reveals out loud hurt him more than anything. "And she feels completely hopeless and exhausted."

Theodore mimics his expression. "It doesn't even sound like it's her," his words are quiet among the two. And true. Spencer is stuck in a state of misery, and Blaise does not know how to help her.

He forces his own dark thoughts to leave him and focuses on how happy he is to finally hear from her, hoping that she can feel his warmth that he so wishes can reach to her. To remind her that she is important to him, and to her friends. That she has a home despite being far from it. She does not answer back, but he has a feeling she fell asleep with that in mind.

Days later, he is still on his holidays and he lies on his back with thoughts crossing on his head. Blaise did not realize that he cares about Ricky too. Then again, it is impossible not to. Theodore always talks about him, how he misses him, about their old conversations. Blaise does not mind listening to them because then Theodore would start talking about Spencer as well and how much he cares about her because she was his first friend. She was the one who gave him a chance and practically introduced him to Ricky. And in that moment, he feels a sudden warm touch on his chest and he gets up in surprise because Spencer had returned to being secretive and yet she touched it. It is no longer overbearing with harsh emotions but simply tired and sleepy— and he figures right away that she must have done it accidentally, but either way, he presses his own finger on the stone and Blaise finds himself sleeping the same way.

Blaise returns to Hogwarts and he repeats the same thing that occurred before the holidays. This time, however, many Dumbledore's Army students went into hiding onto the Room of Requirement (not that he told anyone), but he encouraged Neville to do so. Especially because Luna Lovegood did not come back from Christmas holidays and soon enough, the Quibbler now arrives to the students with rewards to catch Harry Potter when before her father had supported him.

And then, the Daily Prophet is not any better. He has seen Spencer's face sometimes around because she is a known person of the Undesirable One. For ages, it has always been 'On the lookout for Harry Potter and Spencer Montague'. The other three had held up their own secretive stories while everyone knew Spencer would have to be known to be on the run. And then he sees it.

HARRY POTTER, SPENCER MONTAGUE, & HERMIONE GRANGER SPOTTED ON LOVEGOOD'S PROPERTY!

He reads it only to realize that his girlfriend had almost been caught. Slowly, he starts to realize that Ricky and Ron are not there with them, but he remembered hearing something about the redhead being 'sick' and it is most likely that they are pretending Ricky fled from his home like how they 'assumed' for Hermione.

She was okay.

Slowly, the Dumbledore's Army students and those openly supporting Harry disappeared from the school and despite Draco actually having a clue on where they are, he does not say anything and Blaise is thankful for that. Pansy sometimes help him protect the students and thus, that is the reason he is usually on the common room with her.

"You want to do a face mask with me?" Pansy gasps out of nowhere, completely disturbing Blaise from the book he is reading— which turns out to be a simple magical story because muggle books are now forbidden. He puts the book down and shrugs.

"I suppose," Blaise agrees. That was another thing he was taught from his mother. Caring for his face to have it nice and healthy.

Is it sad that Pansy was his only entertainment? Watching her slowly get out of her habit of calling others inferior to her. Draco sometimes sits with him, but it is no longer the same. The two would look at each other and know in deep in their hearts that although they love each other, they are now separated by a war.

More people are dead. Muggles. Wizards. Anyone openly supporting Harry are categorize as traitors. Hogwarts has become a school of the Dark Arts. Morgana keeps annoying him, keeps hurting innocent souls. Everything completely sucks and so then again, he was glad to go home for the Easter holidays.

Was.

"Did the two of you hear earlier?" His mother questions sadly. Blaise knows she is referring to how Ted Tonks (who he figures is the father of the woman known as Tonks— Spencer introduced them back in the wedding) and Dirk Cresswell were murdered along with a goblin. Another goblin and Dean Thomas (a Gryffindor in his year) are not known if they are alive or not.

Theodore answers for the both of them, "Yes." And he stares away with sadness.

Blaise runs his hand through his curls that are now longer. "I'm sick of them running around freely, Mum. More people are getting hurt and dying. I always wanted to become a Healer to help people and they are killing—" Blaise starts to snap, not at them, but at the horrid of the world before his words are cut off and he hisses in pain. He glances down at his necklace and notices the glow of red shining brighter than anything he has ever seen. Blaise holds onto his chest in pain and his mother stands up in panic.

"Blaise?"

"Hey, man, you alright?"

The taller boy smacks his hand onto the table feeling nothing but absolute pain and the craving of death— but he does not crave death so why—?

Spencer, he realizes in complete horror. The necklace continues burning him in a way that he can no longer handle the pain and he takes it off his neck and lets it fall onto the table. The shirt he has on has a hole through where the necklace had been and his skin is slightly burning.

Theodore seems to realize what that means and stares at him in worry. "Don't tell me that was..." The shorter boy cannot even finish his sentence.

His mother hesitantly puts her hand on his shoulder and stares at him in concern. "Blaise?" He only realizes he is crying when his mother swipes her finger softly across his cheek.

"S-she craves death, Mum. She's in a pain I've never felt before in my life— someone's hurting her!" He throws the stuff out of the table and screams having no idea what to do. She's in pain. She's in pain. She's in pain.

Anger fills up in his chest and he stares past his mother and Theodore with a dark look. Blaise does not look at them as he tells them coldly, "You know how to do the Fidelius Charm, right, Mum?"

"Blaise..." his mother starts off slowly before noticing how desperate and determined he is. Then, she sighs. "I do."

"Good," he remarks stiffly. "You two are going to need it when I return back to Hogwarts."

They do not try and convince him to not act out. Theodore is filled with the same anger and his mother knows that he is far stubborn to change his mind. Blaise Zabini is about to rebel against the Death Eaters at school without fear because there is one person that he cares for more than anything.

.・:*:・゚'✫,'✫'゚・:*:・˙

THERE ARE NO UPDATES on any type of newspaper of whatever happened to Spencer, or Harry for that matter. Complete radio silence. Blaise returns back to school and already knows something big must have occurred and yet no one knows of it. Ginny Weasley is no longer attending Hogwarts and is now considered on the run along with the rest of the Weasleys. He makes that connection just by being on the Great Hall. Pansy does not try talking to him since he already snapped at her (and apologized after but still). Draco has not made an appearance but he knows he is there because he saw a flicker of blond that only one person can have.

Blaise hates it. He hates the school and he hates how anger is raging up on him when he knows it is only a matter of time before he explodes and lashes out completely. Something happened to Spencer and he still has no clue if she is alive and he's tried reaching out to her but nothing! His necklace does not receive anything, not even at night, not at day. It is just a one-sided connection because she is not responding and if he thinks that she's dead then... Oh, if she's dead he is bringing hell and attacking anyone on Voldemort's side without question. But he continues hoping because that is what she would do. She would continue hoping, right?

But she was craving death...

He reaches to the common room and then notices that Pansy is sitting on a far end from the couch while Draco is standing with his back turned toward them. No one else is there, unsurprisingly. They are most likely still at the Great Hall doing who knows what. Blaise runs his hand through his hair and closes his eyes in exhaustion. He has not been getting enough sleep with his thoughts always wondering about Spencer.

"Blaise," Draco calls out to him for what feels like the first time. He does not want to turn because of how he is feeling himself, but he does anyway. Blaise stares at his best friend (can he even call him that anymore?), but his attention immediately diverts somewhere else. The blond Slytherin is holding a small gold necklace in his hand that he recognizes so very clearly having always glance down at it every single day. His eyes darken immensely and without letting time waste, he pushes Draco against the wall and holds him with his arm.

"How the fuck do you have that necklace, Draco?" He growls threateningly, pressing his arm tighter against his friend's chest. Draco's eyes widen in fear noticing exactly how furious Blaise is. Pansy gasps from her seat and stands up but keeps a distance between them. "B-Blaise, calm down..." she whispers in slight fear.

Blaise raises his free hand and smacks it against the wall beside Draco. "Calm down? That necklace is Spencer's! You better start talking Malfoy before I start using both my wand and my fists," Blaise warns, pure poison coming out of his mouth.

"Blaise—"

"Tell me, for fuck's sake, just tell me!" Blaise shouts, not caring about anything else except receiving the answers running through his own mind.

"She was at my manor!" Draco confesses loudly, knowing that is the only way he will get his attention. Blaise loosens his hold on him realizing what that meant. He takes a few steps back and almost stumbles down with a dizzy wave hitting him. "She was captured with Potter, Granger, Weasley, Adams, and even that damn goblin and Thomas kid in our year!"

Blaise closes his eyes and shakes his head as if he could not believe that. Except he knows it to be truth because there is only one reason why Draco has the necklace. "Is she alive?" He questions way too quiet that it scares the blond male and petrifies the girl watching them with wide eyes.

Draco swallows deeply and his white face pales even more. "I-I think so," he nods with his whole body trembling.

He narrows his eyes and glares down at him. "What do you mean 'I think so'? It's a yes or no question, Malfoy!" Blaise pushes the boy back again against the wall.

The blond Slytherin grunts at the impact before confessing, "She was able to escape with all of them, b-but Mordra really got to her, Blaise. She was screaming—" Draco closes his eyes and it looks like he is about to throw up, "— she was screaming, 'just kill me' repeatedly or- or crying out for Adams, or just yelling in pain. And she didn't want to let go of the necklace but Mordra took it off her and handed it to my Mum and she gave it to me cause she knew I would take it—"

"You did nothing," Blaise realizes slowly as he listened to his story of what was happening to Spencer. She was being tortured and someone he considered his best friend did nothing. "You just watched her suffer, didn't you?"

"What else was I suppose to do?!" Draco shouts back. "Go against the two insane—?"

He cannot finish his sentence because Blaise punches him straight in the nose without a time to waste. Draco groans and the three of them swears they hear what sounds like a nose breaking. Blaise does not even flinch and instead continues glaring down at him.

             "You're supposed to help her—!"

"I'm not the one bloody in love with her," Draco spits out, swiping away the blood with his left hand while his right keeps a hold on his nose in pain.

"Fuck you, Draco," Blaise pushes him back harder. He grabs the necklace from the boy's hand and stares at him coldly, repeating the same words slower, "Fuck you."

Blaise does not leave any more room for arguments as he heads up straight to his dormitory and slams the door shut on his way there. Pansy, who had stood up in worry, flinches at the sound before she glances at Draco warily. Her lips slightly part as if trying to find the right words before she chooses to stay quiet. The blond Slytherin flinches as the girl simply stares at him in pity before she heads toward the boy's dormitory to check on Blaise.

Meanwhile, Blaise silently stares at the necklace that belonged to his girlfriend. The stone is still there appearing beautiful, his own is simply blank not even feeling a slight ounce of her spirit. Beside Spencer's stone is the ring that Daniel had given her and he admires it for a few seconds before he feels the overwhelming feeling of despair filling up on his chest. And then, of course, there is the miniature bag that Spencer once asked him to charm. He ignores the way Pansy is simply sitting by his bedside in comfort and takes out the bag carefully. When his hand reaches out inside the bag, he notices a pocket watch with confusing symbols staring back at him. However, this time he does not stop himself from letting his tears escape him when he takes out a book he used to flip over the pages thousands of times. His own gift that was meant for Spencer to keep is inside where he knows she must have gone through it more times than he has by the stained tears. Blaise could not believe it. His own best friend has betrayed him in the way that hurts him the most.

They don't talk to Draco for a week.

And Draco does not bother trying to go up to him because every time they look at each other in the eye, Blaise's eyes only appear as if he is seeing red. It is not until it takes exactly a week for Blaise to force himself to step on Draco's shoes. And yes, if he was in his shoes and dating Spencer then he would give his life up to do anything for her and get her to escape. However, if he was actually Draco Malfoy who grew up with a sick bastard as a father and had an aunt like Bellatrix with Spencer only being some girl in school— he slowly gets it. He's just scared and it is those words that he once told Spencer.

He's a good person deep down, are the exact words he told Spencer back in their fifth year. He's just scared.

"Spencer wanted to die," Blaise speaks quietly as he sits in front Draco among the Great Hall. Morgana is sitting beside the Carrows and smirking triumphantly like she has been for the last couple of days. Blaise knows her aunt had told her what she had caused Spencer to do and he glares at her hotly before turning back to Draco. Pansy sits beside him and makes sure no one is listening into their conversation. "I only felt that she was in deep pain— nothing like hers, but I felt it and how she craved for death to come to her."

Draco pales at his words and looks at him with fear and regret. "I'm sorry," he whispers. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

"I hate that you didn't protect her, but I know you must have been scared," Blaise clenches his jaw. "When the time comes, Draco... whose side are you going to be on?"

             Silence.

"Just giving you a thought. As of today, I'm not going to pretend to be a dumb follower of You-Know-Who," Blaise announces to him lowly. His eyes briefly glances at the girl next to him who is gulping nervously and yet determined. "And neither is Pansy. I hope you won't betray us when they try to find us. But I'm done— and if I get a scar on Morgana, then I'd be delighted."

"Can't you see Potter's team is losing?" Draco sounds tired and helpless as if he truly does not want to believe the words he just uttered.

Blaise softens his gaze. "I'm not losing faith in them. I wanted to become a Healer, Draco. Not just sit here and listen to the news about muggles and wizards being killed."

Pansy gently grabs his arm. "I'm tired, Draco. I don't want to be the school's bully anymore. Can't you see how many kids have cried? I hear them at night, or in some random classroom. I-I never liked Potter, but I prefer him. And I prefer the smart Montague, not the evil one."

"I won't tell them," Draco finally decides, staring at the two of them exhausted and weak. "I promise."
