CHAPTER SIXTEEN—
stop talking.
The way Lasy hit the concrete should have hurt.
She pushed the door of her car open after she spun on the road and hit the tree due to the pain that was flooding her entire body. The snapping of her bones didn't stop, it came over and over again. There was 206 bones in the human body, that's how many times she'd have to suffer before it was over. Lasy was screaming at the top of her lungs, her blood coating the door that she'd fallen out of and her palms digging into the window glass.
She wanted to crawl for help, hope she'd get close enough for someone to hear her wails. But, the road was deserted, and it was the middle of the night. Lasy laid flat on the ground as she continued to hear the cracking, some bones snapping hard enough to bulge through her skin. Her cheek dug into the concrete as she cried, her arm out reached for help.
Then, a shadow appeared.
Lasy was thankful she'd lost consciousness due to the pain she'd faced. She wasn't sure how long ago that happened, but it had stopped now. It was past midnight, officially after her birthday. It took her a moment to realize what had happened. The legends, the myths, the unexpected, the curse. It had came to her just minutes before she was convinced she'd been free of it, that it wasn't meant to hit her.
Sometimes, the expected can be disguised to throw you off. Make you think that something was too likely to actually happen. Lasy thought that's what she had, that her story was just too predictable for it to happen to her, where the predictable was as good as dead. But, it did, and she'd lived it. Lasy knew now not to always trust the 'too predictable' mind set, it could manage to sneak up on you right when you think you're right.
A large white light was in her face, Lasy felt her wrist and ankles were tied down. Her eyes stared at the ropes she'd been strapped too. She immediately tried to break free, not doing anything.
"You've been injected with a serum to weaken you. Those ungodly strengths won't be usual for another five minutes." her grandmother english accent rung, making Lasy snap her head over. She realized where she'd been, Audrey Hall. The blood sacrifice had been done here once, the one Tyler had been talking about on the way to dress shopping. Lasy wished they'd done it in the Nightshades library, at least she'd have a 50/50 chance of Wednesday saving her. If she cared enough.
"It hurts." Lasy whined, the sore feeling of breaking every bone still lingering on her. Plus, the indescribable ace in her throat. It seemed like after breaking, they healed back to normal now due to her ability. "It hurts everywhere."
"I know, Lasy Girl." she rubbed her head. "I'm gonna make it all go away. It'll just hurt for a second."
Her eyes casted around as her uncles and aunts began to swarm her tied down body. Panic flooded Lasy as she started to thrash in her ropes. "Let me- why am I chained down? Let me go."
"Hold her mouth." her grandmother insisted. Aunt Shirley grasped her jaw, yanking her mouth open and putting all her strength into keeping it open. Lasy tried to fight it, but whatever her grandmother injected her with weakened her. "Sit still, my love. I'll make the pain leave."
Her uncle passed his mother the pliers. Lasy yelped and tried to fight even more, but it really wasn't any use. Her grandmother kept trying to reassure her everything would be okay, Lasy whimpered in pain as the plier clasped onto her already sensitive new vampire teeth. One pull felt like the pain of bones cracking again, getting even louder with her cries.
"It's almost-" her grandmother began, just as the roof of Audrey Hall was yanked completely off and her grandmothers body was pierced with a large claw, being chunked across Jericho. Lasy began to recover from the pain as her aunts and uncles tried to run for safety, the Hyde getting each and every one of them as he tore them to shreds and didn't leave a single one alive.
Lasy gasped for air, watching the large creature shrink down to a familiar body. "Tyler."
"Lasy." he leaned over her in worry, cupping her face. "Are you okay? I heard you scream but I couldn't find you, I remember the story you told me and I came looking for you."
"Un-tie me." she begged, Tyler hurried to do so. He got both wrist unties as she sat up and wrapped her arms around his shoulders in a hug. He hugged her back, feeling her heart racing in fear as he held her with one arm and used the other hand to untie her ankles. "It hurts so bad."
"Let me look." he pulled back to examine her teeth. "Your gums are bleeding real bad. What hurts?"
"Everything." she repeated herself but clutched her throat. "It feels like I swallowed needles."
"Yeah, you're thirsty. Remember?" he leaned in closer, despite being naked from the transformation, he offered her his neck first. "Go ahead, it's okay."
"I can't. I'll turn you." she pushed him away slightly, holding her throat. "I don't wanna do that to you."
"Not me, not a Hyde." Tyler shook his head at her as Lasy stared at him with those sad, big big down eyes he loved so much. "It's in Wednesday's book if you don't believe me. You won't be able to turn me, so drink up."
"You might not be able to shove me away." Lasy grabbed Tyler's waist and pulled him slightly, though her strength was as if ten bodybuilders had pulled him. Tyler stopped himself by grabbing the post she'd been laid on.
"Really?" Tyler tested her, grasped her by the waist and yanking her in with just as much hidden strength the Hyde in him had. "Try me."
"Lasy!" Ajax yelled when he'd seen her coming through the woods. "Lasy!"
"Ajax." she ran his way, finding him in a hug as the entire school had been set on fire. "We need to go g-"
Xavier walked their way as Lasy smiled. "Rain check."
"Miss me?" he offered her a cheeky grin, accepting the tight hug as Bianca walked not far behind him. "Las...ow."
"Sorry, i'm not use to it yet." she pulled away quickly as her and Bianca side hugged. She saw the odd look the boys were giving her. "I'll explain later."
Lasy and Tyler split ways when they reached the woods. What she'd told him still stood, even after he saved her. She wasn't against him, but she wasn't on his side. She had one plan that consisted of saving her friends, saving Tyler, and killing Thornhill.
Joseph Crackstone hadn't been part of that plan until he'd thrown something, nearly taking off Ajax head. Lasy immediately pulled the boy close to the group, pushing her friends behind her quickly as she out reached her arms to guard them. The four backed up slowly as the towns hero crept their way. "I smell...fresh blood. And a few outcast to go with her."
"Stay away from us!" Bianca yelled at him as she held Lasys arm, trying to pull her away. "Let's get out of here."
He pointed his stick at them, Lasy immediately grabbed hold of it and yanked it away from him. He had no time to react as she threw it, her speed and strength taking him off guard as she yanked him in close to her. The trio of friends behind her all gaped and stared, not sure who'd taken over Lasys body when she'd always been the first to hide.
"You smell like moth balls!" Lasy yelled before she forcefully threw the summoned creature, watching him fly across the Nevermore courtyard and land right at Wednesdays feet with a harsh roll. The Addams girl met her eye, the girls sharing a single nod.
"Yo." Ajax gushed. "That was freaking awesome."
"Ajax, get everyone else out of here." Bianca looked to the boy quickly. "Stick to the plan. Lasy-"
"I have my own plan." she said as she stared at her. "Trust me."
Wednesday stood face to face with Thornhill's gun. The redhead woman smiled. "I may not get to kill all outcast. But, at least i'll get to kill you, Wednesday."
"You might." Wednesday had to agree with her as he sheld her chin up a little more. "If you survive what's behind you."
Thornhill laughed. "Like i'd fall for that."
She felt a breath on her neck. "Boo."
The redhead woman spun around fast, Wednesday hurried forward to yank the gun away from her as Lasy's hand latched onto Thornhill's neck and yanked her down. She cried out in pain at the inhuman strength the once weak girl had. Wednesday met Eugene a few feet away, his bees behind him. "Give her a moment."
Eugene wasn't sure why, he'd planned on helping Lasy. Then again, Eugene didn't know the whole story.
"Look at you, all grown up." Thornhill laughed from her knees as she looked up at Lasy. "You think you're so tough now, don't you?"
"I know what you did." Lasy told her with raised eyebrows, a knowing look in her eye. "I know what you did to Tyler."
"That upsets you, doesn't it?" she offered her a little smile. "I've seen the two of you. It hurts knowing-"
One of Lasys hand grabbed onto her lower jaw, her fingers clasping over her bottom row of teeth. Then, she did the same with her top jaw, her hand cupping the top row. Lasy's arms shook slightly as she held her that way. "Stop-"
She yanked a little as as corners of Laurels mouth began to tear, it made Lasy smile as she cried out in pain. "-talking."
The young vampire continued to pull slowly, letting her suffer every single ounce of pain as her blood sprayed all over the girl. She did it as her eyes continued to narrow the whole way, a smile turning into a smirk before she gave one final harsh yank, the top of her head being thrown elsewhere.
"Gross." Eugene gagged.
Wednesday smiled as Lasy looked over at the pair, nodding her head at Wednesdays face. She walked over toward them as Eugene called his bees off. Bianca walked forward from where she'd been waiting at the stairs, opening her arms and letting Lasy wrap her own tightly around her. The Ishavani girl squeezed her eyes shut, letting Bianca hold her tightly. "Let's get out of here."
"Yeah." Lasy nodded. "Let's get out of here."
The four left, walking toward the end of Nevermore. Ajax and Xavier met Bianca and Lasy in a tight hug, wrapping their arms around each other. Enid did the same to Wednesday, who tried to fight it but accepted it and hugged her back. Lasy leaned her head onto Ajax as he rubbed her shoulders, not phased by the fact that she'd been getting blood all over him.
Then, she smelt it.
Lasy inhaled deeply, the scent filling up her nose and clouding her head. She broke free from her friends with panic in her eyes, taking off in a sprint through the woods. Her friends called, but she'd been ridiculously too fast now for any of them to catch her. Lasy followed the smell, it got so strong that it genuinely started to hurt her head.
"Tyler." Lasy paused as she stared, seeing his unconscious body in his fathers arms. His blood coating every inch of him. She hurried to drop next to his side, taking his body from his father as she held him. She could hear his heartbeat, barley. "His heart is still beating."
"No. No, I just chec-" the sheriff began, pain in his voice that revealed he'd been crying.
"It's there. Too faint to feel, but there. Go call for help!" Lasy yelled at him. "There's service just a few yards away. Hurry!"
The Sheriff chose to be thankful for the outcast that day, for her ability that a human never had. He ran, leaving the two. Lasys eyes watered as she held Tyler's face. She began to preform CPR. "Come on, Tyler. Come on."
The blood was driving her insane, the bullet wound through his side made her clasp her hand over it in hopes of stopping the bleeding. The cries followed as she listened to the faint sound of his heart, so faint until she couldn't hear it anymore. Not her, not with her advanced hearing. It wasn't there. Lasy grasped his face again and leaned over his body. "No, no, no. Tyler, please. Please, don't die on me! Please don't leave me here by myself!"
She tried to blow into his mouth and pump his heart, but nothing was working. Her tears fell from her eyes and all over his naked chest, even the L that was around his neck. She leaned down and listened to his heart again, finding absolutely nothing as she cried for her dead lover. Her dead lover that was a monster, but he'd been her monster. Lasy wasn't sure what their next chapter was, but she at least wanted them to both live long enough to see. She leaned down and kissed his forehead, crying against his skin.
The ambulance echoed in the distance.
