CHAPTER FOURTEEN—
happy birthday, lasy girl

Lasy tried to get as much sleep as she could before having to go get Tyler at two. Though, she only managed to get in an hour and a half before she felt hands shake her awake. Lasys eyes opened as she stared into Bianca's bright blue ones, smiling down at her. "Happy Birthday, precious."

Lasy looked toward the clock, midnight exactly as Bianca pulled her up. "Do you feel older?"

Lasy rubbed her eyes and ignored the head rush she got when yanked upwards. She smiled at her and shrugged. She laid back down and patted the space next to her. Bianca shook her head. "Noo, we aren't going to sleep. Get up, put something cute on. I wanna take you somewhere."

Lasy only moaned in discomfort as she rolled up in Xavier's comforter again. Bianca stood up. "There's gonna be a blood keg."

Lasy opened up one eye as she rose her eyebrow at her. Bianca smiled. "Tempting?"

Lasy sat up and abandoned the comforter, walking toward her closet. She held out a black sweater in questioning as Bianca took her place on her bed. "Cuter."

Lasy reached upwards and grabbed the tee that read 'talk nerdy to me'. Ajax got it for her as a joke last birthday. She smiled as Bianca stood up and shook her head. "Let me help before we're late."

Lasy hummed as she rubbed her eyes again, sitting down on the bed as Bianca looked through too many sweaters before she found the navy blue body suit she'd gotten her a few months ago despite Lasy never wearing it. It was lacy and thin, but looked great on her. Lasy didn't think it looked bad, it just wasn't her style. She shook her head as Bianca showed her. "Yes! Come on, I got you this and you've never worn it."

"It's cold." Lasy argued.

"Not outside." she shook her head in response. "You're gonna wanna look extra cute."

"But why?" she gave a pout.

"Just trust." Bianca begged, holding it out to her. "For me?"

Lasy sighed, standing up as she took it from her hands. Bianca smiled as she went back to looking for the black jeans she'd seen her wear a number of times before.

"Okay, we're almost there." Bianca kept her hands clasped over Lasys eyes and was leading her. Lasy held her wrist, feeling a little uneasy due to not being able to see anything infront of her as she walked. "Just a few more steps-"

Bianca yanked her hands away from Lasys eyes.

"Surprise!" everyone yelled as they stood in the secret library, Lasy backed up in fear.

"Shhh." Ajax cut in. "Remember what I said? Soft surprise."

"Surprise." everyone whispered on sync as Lasys face lit up in a smile.

"We weren't sure how you'd react to a party so we kinda just got the whole society plus Enid and Wednesday." Bianca whispered to avoid Enid knowing about the secret society. "Too much?"

"No, it's good." Lasy smiled. "Thank you."

"It wasn't my idea, I just ordered everyone around." she offered her a wink. "Someone else planned it all though."

"I voted a huge party." Ajax confirmed as he walked over and hugged her tightly. "I got your letter. I don't want us to be in a fight ever again."

"Me neither." she wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Swear to tell you everything. Even if you disapprove."

"And i'll try to not disapprove so badly." he pulled back to smile at her. "Xavier's the one who said we needed to do something small so you don't get overwhelmed."

Lasys eyes softened, smiling as Xavier walked toward the trio. "I'm smart enough to know those Spider-Man dance moves were a one time thing."

"You are right." Lasy nodded with a small. "You still mad?"

He shook his head slightly. "I'm not thrilled, but I understand more from your letter."

Lasys face lit up, squeezing her arms around his waist as he hugged her back. Bianca and Ajax gushed slightly as they smiled at each other.

"I made you a cake!" Enid gushed as Kent put on faint music to play. "Half way through I remembered you don't like anything except, you know, the red stuff. But...it's the thought that counts, right?"

Lasy nodded as Ajax lit the candle as Enid held the cake up. "I know you don't like everyone staring at you when we sing happy birthday so just make a wish."

Lasy thought about it really hard before she shut her eyes and leaned forward, blowing out the candle as everyone cheered. Bianca and Xavier saved her the humiliation as they both wrapped her in a side hug until the cheering and attention was taken from her.

"I was not aware you were born so close to me." Wednesday stood before Lasy as she rose one eyebrow. "Suppose you'd rather not search abandoned mansions to celebrate?"

Lasy shook her head with a half smile. Wednesday nodded once. "Fine. But, I don't expect you to slack off because of what today is. You still have a job and I won't hesitated to sing Happy Birthday just to humiliate you if you forget what our purpose is."

Lasy nodded. "Still on Hyde duty. Don't worry."

Wednesday nodded once before she turned away.

"What's Hyde duty?" Bianca asked curiously.

Lasy shook her head to indicate it was too long of a story, pulling on the strap of the bodysuit. Ajax noticed as he rose an eyebrow. "Have you given up your cute little grandma sweaters?"

"No, I just made her dress extra cute for all the photos." Bianca stated just as Davina snapped one. "You'll thank me in twenty years when you have a kid and your boobs aren't as good as they are now. You'll be able to live viciously through the photos."

"True, your boobs look great." Enid nodded.

"Enid!" Ajax scolded her with an odd look, removing his eyes.

"What? We were all thinking it." she argued with him.

"I brought you my most recent comforter." Xavier nodded as Lasys face lit up, ignoring the flush of her face due to Ajax and Enids comment and eyes. "What's this? Number four?"

"Yes, presents!" Bianca cheered as she hurried over to the small stack. "Everyone had to bring you one in order to enter."

"But you can open them later so no one stares at you." Ajax gave her a side wink. "Mines the best one."

Lasy smiled as she opened her mouth to thank everyone, shutting it and resulting to throwing kissing to all of them. Everyone except for Wednesday followed the action and blew her one back.

Lasy smiled as she watched Tyler hurry from his front door, heading toward her car in the white suit she'd gotten him due to being a firm believer in not wearing the same formal outfit twice. It was something her Mom lived by and Lasy decided to uphold the legacy. "It fits good?"

"Yeah, you have great taste." he offered her a smile, keeping the blazer unbuttoned to show off the black button up underneath because she had said it was her favorite part. He looked over when he was fully in the car and had the door shut, taking a breath to let the fear of his Dad catching him go. "Hi."

"Hi." Lasy smiled back, leaning in when he leaned over first to meet him in a kiss. "You look lovely."

"You also look lovely." he agreed, buckling his seat belt this time and remembering the new dress Lasy had on now had been one of the many she stacked in his arms the day they went shopping. "And I made sure to tell myself not to bleed."

"Means so much to me." she smiled, putting the car in drive and slowly creeping out of the driveway as her headlights shined into his neighbors house. "If you get uncomfortable at any point, please tell me. I don't mind leaving, I don't even want to be here."

"What better way to celebrate your birthday then at a wedding you don't want to be at?" he questioned sarcastically.

Lasy smiled as her face heated up, glancing in his direction. "You remembered my birthday?"

"It was one of the first things we texted about." Tyler confirmed with a little smile, reaching into his blazer pocket. "I got you something too. Pull over."

Lasy didn't bother to make a point to say he should have given it to her before they left his house, then realizing he probably wanted to get away incase his Dad woke up and saw a car in the driveway. She pulled over at the end of the street, locking the doors before looking over. Tyler held out a red box to her. "I got it a while back, not long after the Rave'N. I just wasn't sure when it was less creepy to give it to you."

"Creepy is good." Lasy cracked a grin as she took the lid off and pulled the necklace up. It had a constellation on it, the ends sparking.

"The constellation that's on your profile picture." Tyler smiled as he nodded, watching her drop the box and hold it in her hands. "That one's your favorite one, right?"

"My favorite one." she agreed with a smile. "Thank you."

Tyler nodded, watching her lay it on her leg before reaching behind her neck and unclasping the one she had on. It just had an L on it, the one he'd gotten her was by far much better. Lasy leaned over. "Here, you wear this one then."

Tyler leaned down and let her clasp it behind his neck, tucking it under the button up before leaning back. Tyler looked down at the necklace that was now on his neck, Lasy being the only L that anyone would be able to connect back to him considering his first or last name hadn't began with the letter. It made him smile, knowing that people would glance at it and assume they'd been together. He watched her clasp the constellation one around her neck, moving her hair out of the way afterwards and letting the cold touch her chest.

"Looks good." Tyler nodded as he scanned it over. "I think I did pretty good."

"Me too." Lasy unbuckled her seatbelt to lean over, forever greatful she had a seat in the middle instead of a console, and grasp his face in a kiss. Tyler didn't see that one coming but glad it had, kissing her back and using his hand that was closest to her to rub her lower back. Lasy hummed as she felt around for his seatbelt, unbuckling it when she finally found it. Tyler shrugged it off as it hit the side of the car slightly, pulling on her so she could sit in his lap and deepen their kiss.

Due to excitement, her fangs popped out and pierced his lips slightly. Tyler was glad she had, humming into her mouth at the familiarity of it. Lasy held herself back from biting into his skin due to where they were going, delicately kissing his neck instead of what she'd done last time were the marking still laid. One of her hands brushed at the strands of hair on the back of his neck while Tyler rubbed the tips of his fingers up her legs.

Lasy was forced to take her lips away when Tyler pushed against her side to cause her to lean to the side. She was gonna question it but hadn't as her back hit the seats and he crawled up her a little more, following what she's done and kissing her neck. Once again, she was forever grateful she had a third seat instead of a console.

"Lasy Girl!" Aunt Shirley cheered, drink in hand as she practically spilt it all in the process of seeing her niece. "Oh, look how grown up you are! Your glowing skin and keeping your hair so healthy! Do you want a drink? Let me make you a drink."

"She's only seventeen today, Shirley. Blood only." Uncle Thomas walked over as he rubbed his wife's back. "Lasy, you look beautiful as always."

Lasy offered him a nice smile. She pointed toward her grandmother as her aunt clapped in realization. "Right, sure. Let me grab-Mother! Lasy's here!"

"Oh, Lasy Girl!" Grandmother turned with a smile, her white hair bright against her expensive pearls. "It's been so long since i've seen you."

Lasy accepted her hug as she looked around her grandparents old manor. "Still...big."

"Indeed." she nodded her head. "How is school? Your grades still look beautiful, thanks to those large checks?"

"Partly." Lasy cleared her throat. "I..."

"You've what?" Aunt Shirley nodded as she smiled, her fangs on full display.

"Don't tell me you're pregnant." Grandmothers face fell.

Lasy shook her head quickly, waving the trio along as she headed back toward the manor entrance. Uncle Thomas trailed behind Lasy. "Have you come baring-"

Tyler turned around from where he'd been admiring the portraits, smiling at the three. Aunt Shirley dropped her drink as it shattered at her feet. Thomas smiled. "-gifts."

Lasys eyes widened slightly as she quickly took Tyler's side. "This is Tyler. He's my plus one...like the envelope stated."

"Yes, and he's a human boy." Aunt Shirley blinked as she smiled, unbothered by the broken glass at her feet. "Oh, and he's so tall! And has plenty of meat on his bones so non of us will go hungry this year."

"So nice for you to just walk in." Grandmother smiled as she touched Tyler's arm. "We usually have to drag them in kicking and screaming."

"What's your blood type, young man? O Positive isn't very good for my gut." Uncle Thomas touched his stomach as he spoke.

"Um-" Tyler was looking for the right words.

"He's not-" Lasy was too, for once not having someone speak for her in a situation she had to control. "He isn't the food, he's my date. My date that I don't wish to be...eaten and could walk out of here with me as well."

"He's not the entry?" Aunt Shirley touched her throat. "But he's so delicious looking."

"He is." Lasy exhaled, securing an arm around Tylers waist. "I wasn't aware it was my job to bring a snack?"

"Oh course not, humans just haven't walked into my home since your father." Grandmother forced a laugh, though it was clear she felt very disrespected by her granddaughter. "Very nice to meet you, Tyler. I was not aware my granddaughter was bringing a date, we'd have given you a better welcoming."

"Oh, no worries." he smiled at her, but all four of them could tell he'd been nervous with the most recent comments. "You have a very beautiful house."

"Ah, thank you." she motioned down the hallway. "Lasy, give your date a tour but keep away from the basement unless you plan on leaving without him."

Lasy gave a tight lipped smile as she let Tyler's waist go, resulting to holding his hand. She glanced back to watch her aunt stare at them, or Tyler more then anything. Lasy tightened her hand on his as they circled the corner. "I am so sorry for that."

"I see what you mean about not bleeding." he spoke up as they entered the study, the fireplace lit in the darkened room. "So, do they really bring in screaming people?"

"Only on special occasions like this." Lasy made sure to shut the door as she exhaled. "Do you want to leave? I'd completely understand."

"No, it's okay. I think it's okay." he stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, looking around. "Where are we?"

"My Grandfathers study. He's made business deals here for over two thousand years." Lacy smiled slightly as she looked around, noticing Tyler was mainly focused on the painting above the fireplace. "That's the eighty-three year painting. It symbolizes the special vampires ability to change humans on that day."

"Just every eighty-three?" Tyler looked over at her curiously. "You mentioned this to me, but you never explained."

"When vampires turn seventeen, as long as it's been over eighty-three years since the last one, one vampire will be gifted the advanced ability of mythical vampires. Your theories on us come true." Lasy explained as she leaned against the desk. "Jump high, run fast, turn humans to vampires. It's the only reason they bothered to invite me tonight."

"Because today is your seventeenth birthday." Tyler pieced it together as he nodded, eyeing her oddly. "Have you-"

"Don't worry, i'd have known by now." Lasy had to smile slightly at how little he'd known about her species, finding it rather cute someone for once didn't think they knew more then she did about what she'd been. "It's a very painful welcoming. Your bones all snap and your gums bleed accessibly, then there's the painful feeling in your throat. The thirst for blood is so bad that it genuinely hurts, like you're swallowing needles that had been soaked in acid and toasted on a fire."

"That sounds...terrible." Tyler leaned back to join her on the desk, putting his hand on hers. "I'm glad you don't feel it."

"Me too. But, my family is going to be disappointed when the next two hours go by and I don't start screaming in pain." she explained as he rose his eyebrows at her. "They've planned it ever since the curse had skipped every member of my family on their seventeenth birthday. Not my grandfather, not my grandmother, not my uncle, not my aunt, not my other uncle nor his husband, or my other aunt, and non of my fifteen cousins. They've gotten so impatient that they've planned to take the teeth out of whichever vampire is blessed with the new fangs, giving them to my grandmother so she could bite random people in hopes of one day the entire world only being made up of full blooded vampires."

"Is that possible?" Tyler looked down at her.

"No. Having a world full of vampires would cause us to starve because we aren't able to have the blood of humans. We'd have to change to animal blood, and that's as bad as drinking the blood of someone who does drugs and doesn't take care of themselves." Lasy cringed with a gross look on her face. "Not fun."

"No, not that." he had to chuckle slightly, turning to her a little more. "The whole taking the fangs out and giving them to your grandmother?"

"Oh, no one's sure really." she shrugged. "I've never actually met anyone with the ability. Only read about them and stories from my Mom. Non of them had the wishes my Grandmother does, but she thinks our species is dying out due to how many vampires are falling in love with humans or other species. Making them only have half vampire blood in them, then over time non if it's just a process from being half to 25% and before long, zero."

"It's reoccurring then?" Tyler smiled as he pulled Lasy in by the waist as she stood between his legs, a smile across her lips. "The human thing?"

"Not necessarily." she smiled as he nodded. "My Mom was the first, that's when my Grandmother got scared. One of my cousins fell for a siren and another a stoner. It's not very reoccurring but enough for her to worry that there'd be no other vampires. Did you not see how disrespected she seemed when I told her you weren't the first meal of the night?"

Tyler gasped slightly. "Lasy Ishanvi, did you just admit to falling in love with me?"

He jaw fell slightly, feeling lost of words. She resulted to shaking her head. Tyler nodded with a smile. "I'm pretty positive you did."

She just continued to shake her head as he nodded, leaning in to meet her in a kiss. Lasy smiled and pushed harder against his lips, her fangs pricking his lip. She pulled back as the taste of his familiar blood touched her tongue. "Tyler!"

"It's okay. It's just a little-" he was cut off by the study door being thrown open, Lasy immediately shoved Tyler behind her as her aunt and uncle smiled at the two.

"Don't be such a tease." Uncle Thomas threatened. "Your Grandmother sent for us to bring out the appetizer."

"If we were in better circumstances, i'd probably complement you for such a catch." Aunt Shirley's teeth were much bigger then Lasys, and much scarier.

"Stay away." Lasy threatened the two as they moved toward the window, the pouring rain echoing loudly from outside. "I mean it."

"What will you do?" Uncle Thomas smiled. "You're only half of what we are. That boy is as good as dead already, it's ashamed we don't enjoy cold foods."

"Go." Lasy pushed against Tyler as he trued to get the window up. She waited for her aunt to get closer, immediately pulling her taser from her pocket and tasing the hell out of her.

"Holy shit!" Tyler had not seen that one coming. "Where'd you get a taser?"

"Princable Weems. I wanted to be prepared." Lasy spoke as her aunt twitched on the ground, holding it toward her uncle as Tyler finally got the window open. "About time."

"The paint had it sealed shut." he said as he climbed out, Lasy keeping the taser out reached as she slowly crept out of the window. The second both her legs were out, she grabbed Tylers hand and took off through the rain. Their white attire was ruined entirely by the water, soaking through tremendous and mud flying up on them as they ran to Lasys car. As soon as they were inside, Lasy started the car and saw her Grandmother standing at the doorway, watching.

"Check almost getting murdered my vampires off my list." Tyler explained as he panted, holding his heart.

"I tried to warn you." Lasy explained as she pulled out of the driveway.

"I'll listen from now on." he promised as Lasy gushed sadly and reached over to rub the back of his neck. "Maybe we're not meant to meet each others families."

"I think you're right." she agreed. "Though, they make your Dad seem like an angel."

Lasy had dropped Tyler off a little before three that morning, the time they were meant to watch her aunt walk down the isle. When Lasy arrived back to Nevermore, she snuck in through the woods. The school was quiet, too quiet despite it being three in the morning. Lasy went to the library where she was only met with Wednesday, waiting for her.

"It was Xavier. He is the Hyde." Wednesday immediately stated as she stood up, confusing Lasy as she blinked. "Sheriff Galpin just took him in."

Lasy paused as she blinked multiple times. "What?"

"The hyde." Wednesday stated. "I'm sure of it."

Lasy looked at her in sadness. "But...he's my best friend."

"I know. Which is why I didn't tell you sooner." she stated bitterly but Lasy understood she was trying to be sincere. "I don't know why you've fallen upset. He is taken away."

"I know, but it's just-" Lasy blinked as she shook her head. "He's not...that's just not who he is. Are you sure?"

"I am." Wednesday straightened her back. "To avoid your birthday from being ruined entirely, no matter how much i'd enjoy it myself, i've decided to allow you to mark me as a Nightshade."

Lasy's head was racing so much that she barley heard Wednesday, the Addams girl stared in disbelief. "I'm speaking to you."

"I need to go to the station. Maybe he'll talk to me, it'll make more sense and I can understand why he'd do something like this or what caused it." Lasy shook her head as her heart rate sped up. "Xavier isn't-"

"He used your inability to control yourself against you, despite knowing that it made you feel bad. He was going to allow you to kill Davina with no sympathy for how it made you feel after." Wednesday cut her off. "Go to the station if you want to, but realize you're falling at the feet of a monster that cared more about winning a trophy then he did you. Or you can accept it and quit your crying before my offer expires."

Lasy watched as Wednesday yanked her collar down, revealing her neck as she used a knife to cut a little mark. "I deserve to celebrate with a little pain after cracking the class. Now, are you going to fuel my fun or not?"

Lasy swallowed as she blinked her sadness and shock away, approaching Wednesday as she held her neck, sinking her fangs into her neck immediately. She felt Wednesday gasp and her back to curl in, but Lasy was unable to stop to question what was happening.

The second Lasy put her teeth into Wednesday she was welcomed with a vision of every other person she'd ever bitten. First was Xavier, the first Nightshade she marked. Wednesday saw Lasy bite into his shoulder before she only saw a stand alone vision of Xavier in his art study, Lasy nowhere in sight, painting Wednesday on his canvas. Bianca was next, the bite with her and Lasy before she saw a fresh vision of Bianca and her mother. Again, Lasy had no clue of it, Wednesday was just somehow connecting and seeing the visions of each person Lasy had ever bitten. Then came Ajax when he stoned himself, Kent when Thing knocked him out, Davina with her first kiss with Yoko, and Yoko the time she'd found her signature sunglasses.

Then, there was Tyler. First, Wednesday was welcomed by a few nights ago when Tyler allowed Lasy to bite into his skin. Then, it faded into the way he'd murdered Kimbot.

Wednesday gasped as she yanked Lasy away from her, meeting her eye as her blood dripped from her mouth. Lasy stared. "What happened?"

"I saw a vision of everyone you've ever bitten before, visions of just them. You weren't there after the biting part was over, it was a different one after that. One that no one except them had seen." Wednesday stared right at Lasy as the girl panted slightly from the blood and so much information hitting her at once. "Xavier isn't the Hyde."
