CHAPTER TEN—
a birthday to remember.

"Enid?" Wednesday looked around when she'd lost her friend, hearing whispers and rustles all around her. "Whoever you are, show yourself. Trying anything and you'll loose limbs."

"Surprise!" the all popped out from behind the rock with a wide smile. "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear Wednesday. Happy birthday to you."

Wednesday looked back at Thing in betrayal. "I should have known you were behind this. What part of no party under the penalty of death do you not understand?"

Lasy frowned as she lifted Thing up. She then pointed at Enid as the blonde gaped. "Are you throwing me under the bus?"

She nodded her head as Enid looked to Wednesday. "Don't blame Thing. It was all my idea."

"I thought my cake design was pretty inspired." Xavier smiled as he pointed to the little grim reaper on the cake. "Lasy picked the colors."

She smiled at the black decor. "Based off your fashion sense."

"The pink balloon was my little touch." Enid added in, smiling as she held the cake out more for her. "Why don't you make a wish?"

Wednesday looked at the engraving on the wall, completely unbothered by the cake. "Wait, it's latin. Fire will rain...when I rise."

"K, that's not really a wish." Enid frowned some as Ajax tried to mess with Thing in Lasys hand before they both smacked him.

"The first part of that phrase was burned into Nevermore's lawn." Wednesday got to her feet once again. "It can't be a coincidence."

"Wait, we're never eating that cake, are we?" Ajax glanced at his friends. Lasy hesitated but swiped her finger across the icing and tried to pop it in her mouth before Ajax grabbed her wrist, the two fighting over who licked it off before Wednesday interrupted the pair by her head flying backwards.

Lasy let Thing go long enough to lung forward and catch her before she hit the hard ground.

"Wait, what?" Bianca stared at Xavier.

"You sure you saw the right laptop?" Ajax was unbothered with an odd look.

"No, i'm 100%!" Xavier explained as he stood above them. "Lasy 100% has a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, I don't know but she's definitely talking to someone and they're mad at her. Someone from the Rave'N."

"Well, she was your date." Bianca gave Ajax a questionable look. "Are you and Lasy secretively hooking up?"

"If I was hooking up with Lasy, everyone would know and I wouldn't be leading Enid on. After her dance I didn't see her much." Ajax promised as he leaned forward. "Do you think she's had her first kiss and hadn't told us?"

"No way!" Bianca shook her head. "It's Lasy!"

"Exactly, who would Lasy Ishanvi be comfortable being in a relationship? No one." Xavier explained as he looked between the two. "So, who the hell is this person?"

"I can't believe Lasys actually in someone's bed. I spoke too soon." Ajax rolled his eyes as Bianca smacked his arm. "You think she uses her fangs?"

"Ajax!" Bianca scolded him.

"What?" he defended himself. "You're telling me you haven't wondered? They pop out when she gets excited."

"Okay, enough." Xavier cut in. "Why aren't you taking this seriously? It's Lasy!"

"Because maybe there's a reason she didn't tell us." Ajax made sure to dramatically eye Xavier.

"What's that look about?" he gave him an offended look. "Because I want to make sure she's not dating a complete asshole?"

"Do you honestly think Lasy would date a complete asshole?" Bianca asked in disbelief.

"She doesn't know any better sometimes." he defended his case.

"See!" Ajax shoved a finger at him. "She didn't say anything because you would scare them away and she'd be alone in no one's bed. You think she can't make decisions for herself."

"That's not true." he defended himself.

"It's very true." Bianca cut in. "Last year on her birthday. She wanted strawberry but you said no, that she would rather vanilla."

"Because I know strawberry would make her sick like it always does!" Xavier yelled at her.

"That's still not what she wanted though!" Bianca stood up. Ajax cleared his throat loudly as the two turned and saw she pushed the library doors open. "Oh, speak of the devil."

Lasy walked their way with raised eyebrows, pointing at herself in questioning.

"We were just talking about how happy we are you are not locked in your room." Ajax forcefully yanked her on the couch as he squeezed the life out of her. "I missed your little face!"

Lasy gaped as he grasped her face with his hand, thumb and index finger shoved into her cheeks and squeezing them together. "Look at that little face."

Bianca and Xavier gave an odd look as Ajax let Lasy go, getting an offended look as she slowly looked at him. He just smiled and tried to do it again before she followed his finger with her mouth. He yanked back. "Not cool. Don't use the fangs on me."

Lasy just pointed at him knowingly.

"So, Las." Bianca sat down and leaned forward. "What's been happening?"

She shrugged her shoulders and started to open her backpacks. Bianca looked back at Xavier as he gave an odd look, she cleared her throat. "Anything new going on?"

Lasy gave her an innocent look and shook her head. Xavier huffed in disbelief as he leaned forward. "I know-"

"Get up." Wednesday cut in as she walked over toward the four.

"What?" Xavier blinked.

Wednesday grabbed hold of Lasys arm and yanked her up onto her feet to drag her away. Lasy looked back at her friends in worry as they all matched her look, Lasy gave a minor wave of her hand. Wednesday pulled her out of the library and into the hallway. Lasy tapped her arm and shrugged her shoulders. Wednesday exhaled deeply. "We're meeting Enid and Tyler."

Lasy rose her eyebrows again and gave an even more questionable look. Wednesday rolled her eyes. "For my birthday."

Lasy smiled, pointing at herself as Wednesday eyed her. "Yes, you are invited."

"But why?" Lasy asked her as they walked through the woods together.

"Because you are the least annoying one out of your friend group." she announced as they neared the running car. "And because I think this will be better done in pairs. Don't ask any more questions."

Lasy smiled as she nodded, the two walking the rest of the way before finding Tyler in the drivers seat and Enid sulking in the back.

The four walked to the door as Wednesday yanked on it, not doing anything as Tyler stepped forward. "Here, let me try."

He tried as well, the door moving but not coming open one bit. Lasy chewed on the inside of her mouth as she debated trying, but she hadn't eaten lunch and now not dinner so she was rather weak. Enid passed Lasy her flashlight. "Can I try?"

The three watched as she gave a couple yanked before it flew it. Tyler stepped back some as Lasy held an arm up to avoid him falling on a branch laid behind his feet. "Woah."

"It's a werewolf thing." the blonde shrugged slightly as she walked in after Wednesday.

Tyler glanced over at Lasy as she did the same with a minor grin. He returned it as she faced forward again and motioned for him to go first. Tyler did so, glancing back at her over his shoulder to make sure she'd been following. "How's it going?"

Lasy rose her eyebrows and nodded with a shrug, pointing at him as he nodded. "Pretty good too. Thanks for asking."

She smiled back, shining her light around the house with an inhale. "Creepy."

"A little." Tyler agreed with her, his arm brushing onto hers some. "Are you scared?"

Lasy shook her head and rose her eyebrows at him. "Are you?"

Tyler gave a small, maybe embarrassed, smile as he nodded his head. Lasy smiled back, holding out her hand for him to grab as they followed after Enid and Wednesday.
