CHAPTER ONE—
my personal favorite.
"Has anyone seen Lasy?" Enid walked through the school as the break came near. "Lasy? Anyone have eyes on the vampire girl?"
Xavier found Enid. "I looked all over. She's not here."
Wednesday overheard, her eyes narrowing as she walked over. "Lasy is missing?"
She wasn't missing, just no one knew where she'd been. No one knew she'd stopped at a stop sign, hiding out in her car and sinking deep in the seat. As the van passed, she quickly sat up and put it in drive. Her foot hit the gas, swirling onto the road and speeding close after the van that held a certain Hyde right inside.
couple months earlier...
whostyler: you're never gonna guess what i finally did.
Lasy pulled her phone from her pocket as she walked slower down the stairs, raising her eyebrows as her thumbs worked the screen.
eclipselasy: what'd you do now?
whostyler: guess!!
Lasy paused at the bottom of the staircase, leaning against it as she typed.
"Hey." Bianca passed her with a little wave. Lasy offered her a smile as she flickered her eyes up before looking down at her phone again.
eclipselasy: humm...did you wreck your dads car again?
whostyler: close.
whostyler:
eclipselasy: wowwwww. i'm impressed with you. how many tries did it take?
whostyler:too many to admit.
whostyler: how's your day going?
eclipselasy: better now that i'm talking to you :)
whostyler: aw. stop.
whostyler: how was it BEFORE you got to talk to me?
eclipselasy: bad. i failed my science test big time. literally below an F! can you believe that?
whostyler: i could tutor you.
eclipselasy: you're cute.
whostyler: i'm serious! i get great grades.
whostyler: we don't have to facetime, just talk over the phone. it'll be fun!
Lasy sat there. She chewed on the inside of her mouth. She went into the coffee shop too much, she talked to Tyler on multiple occasions. He'd be able to know her voice, especially with the name. Lasy inhaled deeply, a beyond insane idea coming to mind.
eclipselasy: you got yourself a deal, partner.
Tyler mentally did backflips as he smiled and gripped his phone tighter, spilling the coffee he had in hand slightly.
whostyler: seven?
eclipselasy: seven it is.
"Hey, Lasy!" Enid smiled as she began to walk. "This is Wednesday."
Lasy smiled at the two, giving a wave. She'd heard about the new girl everyone talked about, she just wasn't aware she'd be joining so soon.
"She's not a big talker." Enid shrugged just slightly.
"Sounds like my type of girl." Wednesday stated motionlessly, hinting at how annoyed she'd been with Enids constant talking.
"She's really sweet though. Unless you're bleeding, then she kinda stares at you in this really spooky way. Lasy with an S, by the way. Not a C. Weird, but I love it!" Enid continued on as they continued to walk together. "I'm pretty sure the two of you have fencing together if I remember correctly. You'll see tomorrow! Maybe you two will be friends! Friends who don't talk much!"
Lasy gave a salute toward Xavier as she walked past him, pushing through the Nevermore gates and walking to the first stop sign where she kept her car hidden in an opening in the woods. Most of the students at Nevermore don't drive due to never actually leaving the school unless they went as a group, if they needed to ever go Principal Weems would likely drive them. But, Lasy had been gifted the car from her great grandparents a couple months ago and driving cleared her head.
She started it up and turned the radio on, rolling the windows down and she pushed her sunglasses onto her face. She went into town when she could, she never drew too much attention. As long as she wasn't hungry, her fangs wouldn't pop out. She made sure to take a blood capsule before she walked in, pushing her glasses up on her head as she walked toward the nearest table. Lasys eyes pretend to be doing nothing in particular, but she really didn't give a fuck about any of the old people here or the minimalist paintings.
There he was, gorgeous smile and all.
Lasy smiled slightly as she stared, watching him take someone's order at the register and make light conversation. She braced herself, inhaling deeply before standing up. Lasy didn't talk much because she was bad at it. Especially with people that made her feel, well, nervous. She was always nervous, a walking anxiety attack. She was the embodiment of heart racing, voice creaking, skin on fire, not being able to breath, complete and totally nervous as hell.
"What can I get-oh, look who it is." Tyler recognized her from this morning as he smiled at her. "Back for more? So soon?"
Lasy chuckled under her breath, she couldn't breath, she was holding her breath. "It's...um, it's a big test i'm studying for."
"Understandable. The same, or something different?" he asked. Lasy just nodded quickly as her eyes grew wide. Tyler laughed slightly. "Which one?"
"Whichever." she was panicking, she was breaking. Hurry, Tyler. Please, pick for me so I don't say something insane and ruin such a nice conversation with you. "Your favorite?"
"Mine?" he rose his eyebrows as she nodded her head. "Are you allergic to anything?"
Lasy shook her head as Tyler nodded. "I have the perfect idea then. Here or to go?"
She would need to get back before Principle Weems noticed she'd been gone. "To go."
"Okay, got it." he grabbed the cup and a sharpie. "What's your name?"
"Lasy." when she said it, she saw the way his body jolted and his eyes flickered up. Lasy wasn't necessarily an uncommon name, but it was sort of one of those names you hear often but never see anyone actually have. "L-A-C-Y."
C, with a C. Not an S. His shoulders fell, she was glad. "Got it. My personal favorite coming right up."
Lasy smiled at him as he did it back, she immediately turned her back as he gave a questionable look. Lasy rocked on her heels and bounced slightly to try and steady her breathing, her heart rate insane. She never knew why this happened so badly. It wasn't just with Tyler, though it was worse due to the fact that she genuinely liked this boy so much. If Lasy had to talk for more then a couple sentences, she'd go into a panicked state where she just couldn't breath and her insides would set on fire. It was the worst, her silences often times confused with rudeness when that was the last thing she was trying to be. She popped a 100 dollar bill into the tip jar when he wasn't looking, thanking her grandparents for being rich people they have lived over a hundred years.
"Here you go." Tyler got her attention again as she turned around, accept the cup as her pinkie touched his when taking it. Her stomach turned to a point where it almost hurt, his skin so warm against her icy cold hands. She didn't linger but she wanted to, smiling awkwardly as she lifted the coffee in the slightest as a thank you before turning her back. She hated coffee, she hated anything really. It was like acid in her mouth, but she came in often just to be able to see him. See that sweet smile, those gorgeous eyes, the muscles high on his arms.
Lasys eyes casted down onto the top of the coffee cup when she got back to her car.
have a beautiful day!
Her phone beeped, making her grasp it in her palms.
whostyler: i'm getting off early, got a huge tip. wanna make it five instead?
Lasy knew that if she was gonna do this, she'd need to act fast. She hurried to put her car in drive and headed back to Nevermore where she stopped back in the woods. After parking her car, she hiked through the woods as far as she could until her feet started to hurt. Her eyes stared at a tree, inhaling deeply before screaming as loud as she could. She just screamed, screamed so hard until her throat hurt. Like she'd been starved of blood for weeks.
"Hello?" Lasy spoke out loud, smiling as she heard her voice had been gone, barely there.
Unrecognizable.
