JESSE KLAVER

"Good luck," I whispered to Rob as we passed by each other. My hand lingered a bit longer on his arm, he was looking at me with a smile that made me fall in love with him all over again.

Yes, love.

I was in love.

And no one, not Thierry, not me, was going to ruin this for me or Rob. If he feels the same, that is.

I sat on my chair, ignoring the looks I got from the people. I leaned against the chair, proud of myself for managing to keep my cool in the situation I was put in. I smiled, watching as Rob came to the microphone.

He looked calm and ready, but not to me. To me, he looked a bit nervous but I knew he would do great. He always does. He took a deep breath, coughed to clear his throat and started speaking.

"*So, we all know the education system can be defined in a lot of ways and that it is important to teach our youngest. In our hope to teach them the knowledge that we, as the whole population, learned, we first must know how to share it and not be angry if someone other discovers the new information before us. When we're capable of doing that, which isn't all states, we can summarize that knowledge and write it in textbooks, with fact on our minds we aren't writing it for us, but for our children who don't even know the scientific names of everything.

Still, the poorer countries have either old data or don't have schools at all. As a whole population, we're not giving them enough time and help. The step we have to take is to help them, whether with money for better homes, sending teachers and volunteers to help them learn, giving them medicine... We have to show them we care and they matter, because they do. We're in this together.

And we have a situation with wars that shouldn't be happening. The people are dying, and those who escape are met with judgment, especially kids in schools. How'd you feel if you get called bad names just because you don't have the same colour of skin? Not good. If you, that are older, would feel awful, how the kids feel?

Those bad manners aren't just learned at home, but in school, and for that we are guilty. We should focus more on learning them to respect and equality through the selected data and lessons about history, language, geography etc. rather than make them learn just facts and years. Have them engage, let them socialize, teach them through fun ways, make them comfortable. Talk to them about their families and if there are problems at hope, go to the authorities and try to protect them.

We ask ourselves how we got here with global warning, nature problems, human trafficking, killing. It is our fault, of older generations. In the past, they didn't educate their kids good, they didn't know what we know now. Just 30 years ago or less, they laughed about global warming. They made fun of it and neglected it. Now it's a big problem. And we don't go into detail teaching about it in schools either. How do we expect we'll advance if we can't even give proper education to our future generations?

In my opinion, we should teach them about more important topics and upgrade the textbooks constantly instead of letting them learn the old data and hate. I do blame the education system for ignorance. I blame myself for not engaging in the solution more but I alone can't change that. We have to do it together. And when we do that, I guarantee you it will be better because the younger population will be more aware of world problems.

The change starts with changing the system."
