ROB JETTEN
"...and it's very important we learn about sustainable energy and the importance of investment in sustainable energy..." Jesse continued talking.
It turned out one of the topics was about the environment and global warming and all ministers and party leaders specialized in the environment had to give their opinion, stance or idea for improvement, how to save nature and ourselves in the process.
I could've seen the frustration on his face when he realized he would have to talk in front of all these people — and cameras, we learned that the conference was that important it was broadcast live — he didn't like to come unprepared. It had made me laugh and caused him to shoot me a warning look as he was getting up.
Ten minutes later and he was finishing. I didn't know the plan for continuation, but that changed when a girl came to me.
"You're Rob Jetten, right?"
"Yes," I answered. She had an earpiece in and a microphone connected to it, papers in her hand.
Oh no.
No, no, no, no, no.
"Don't look so scared. I came to tell you the next theme was added suddenly and the president is apologizing. You have to talk about educational systems, yours and others, compare them a bit, say what has to be fixed... Stuff like that. You're after your friend," she turned to leave.
"Wait! How can you do that so suddenly and without notice before? I don't have anything with me!" I panicked.
"We are very sorry, I don't have the reason why it was added out of nowhere, I was told to tell you that. Sorry, I have to go tell the others. I promise I'll make sure this won't happen again if I'll have the job next year."
"But I..." she already left, and I looked at Jesse who was looking kinda confusing at me maybe with a tint of jealousy because of the woman. He finished his speech and was walking towards his seat when I stood up and started walking in his direction.
The look of recognition crossed hsi3 face and he smirked at me. If we were surrounded by cameras, I'd give him a middle finger. Instead, I smiled at him gently and his smirk morphed into a similar smile.
"Good luck," he whispered in my ear as we passed each other, lightly touching my arms. I looked him in the eyes, time seemed like it slowed down.
At that moment I really wanted to kiss him. But I didn't. I couldn't. Instead, I went to the stand, looking at the big crowd and cameras that were closer to me now.
I took a big breath and started speaking from my head, making it up in a meaningful discourse as much as I could.
