ROB JETTEN

My finger hovered over Jesse's name.

Should I call him?

My body had taken action before I could, deciding for me. I pressed the button, watching as the screen changed to one of the phone calls. Before I could hang up, the call was answered. I watched as a few seconds went by before bringing the phone to my ear.

"...and I'm so sorry, I wasn't thinking right —"

"Stop!"

He quieted. I sighed. What the fuck was I thinking?

"Firstly, I missed the beginning of... Whatever you said. I don't even know why I called you, I was putting a new number in and I saw your name, I didn't even process what I did until you already started talking so... I didn't hear what you've said."

"Oh..." Just 'oh'? "I — I can start my apology again if you want."

"No. I don't want to hear it. Not now, it's too much."

"Rob. You know I didn't mean what I said."

"I know," I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Joelin told me."

"Joelin?! What was she doing with you?" he asked. It wasn't judgingly said, it was curiously. I, too, would be curious about why my ex hung out with my... Whatever we were now.

"She ran into me at the café. We talked a bit. About you."

"What did she said?"

"Um... She kinda told me something about your past that normally the person would want to tell the others on their own."

"... She told you about bullying, didn't she?"

"Yes," I admitted.

"Fuck! I told her to keep that a secret."

"Don't be mad at her! You didn't tell me some pretty important things, someone had to. If we're going to continue to be whatever we were, I need you to trust me and tell me stuff, like I trusted you before I discovered you have a wife."

He was silent for a bit, letting my words sink in.

"You are right. I should've told you about Joelin. I didn't think it would be important because we're getting divorced. We didn't even talk for months, except for when I go see my kids. It's like we're already divorced. The only thing that says we aren't is the marriage certificate without an annulment."

"Well... You are right, the only thing that ties you is a certificate. I mean, and your children, but with the legal stand."

He chuckled. "I know what you mean. Rob?"

"Hm?"

"Would you like to meet them? My kids?"

"What?"

"Met Joelin and my kids. That way you'll know I mean when I say I'm sorry."

"i — if you're sure. Yes?"

"You asking or telling?"

"Telling?" I said unsurely.

"Then tell like you mean it."

"So demanding. No can do that," we chuckled, and he muttered 'sorry'. "But yes. Yes, I'll meet your children."

"Great! Next weekend?"

"I'll see if I can. Bye, Jes."

"Bye, Rob."

We hung up and I placed the phone on the table. I sighed, drinking the leftover coffee before standing up and leaving the tip for the waitress. I left the coffee shop, walking on the sidewalk alongside the river, smiling when Jesse came to my mind and I pictured him with his kids.

Sometimes I'm happy I'm not that author that asks for specific votes and comments for the next update lol.

I do appreciate them, tho :)

Btw a shorter chapter because I don't know what to write, so... Ideas? Wishes?  Reconciliation sex?
