7. She's my Only Angel
To say Klaus was furious was underestimating his true capacity. He had a reputation of not responding well to threats thrown at the ones he cared the most about; family and close friends. Filled with rage and wanting to spill the blood of the older Salvatore consumed him.
"I'll kill him. I will make him regret ever touching you." Klaus promised Marilyn, anger coating his eyes.
Marilyn placed her hands into his. "He stabbed me in the back when I was making my way to the grill. So, I staked him just below his heart along with Stefan and killed Abby Bennett." she told him, her voice shaking. Klaus leaned closer and placed a kiss on her lips. He assured himself that she was fine for the moment before he turned back to his brothers.
"We stopped her temporarily but she will retaliate soon." Klaus told them.
Elijah and Kol stared at the couple as they processed everything Marilyn just confessed.
"Gentleman? Please, it is not that big of a deal."
"Not that big of a deal? You are the devil's daughter." Elijah reiterated, the flabbergasted state evident in his eyes and the pale white face.
"When Nik said you're his only angel, I thought he was being a crazy romantic idiot and not──" kol trailed off, "you're really an Angel?"
"Half. Only half angel. My mum was human." Marilyn waited for more questions but all the two of them did was stare at her making her feel conscious.
"Can we go back? I need a shower and rinse off death off of me."
"Of course, love. Let's go." Klaus took off his jacket and placed it over her shoulders. Marilyn smiled at the gesture and began walking alongside the Mikaelson brothers.
It felt like an interrogation room. With Marilyn on one end, sitting alone on an armchair with the three clueless and curious Mikaelson siblings in front of her. Klaus peered over his left shoulder, glancing at Marilyn.
It was almost midnight, everyone freshened up after the evening's events. Marilyn sat silent ── scarily silent. Her silence, the blank stare she had on the floor worried Klaus. After all, the unkillable had just been killed. But she was alive. How? A question no one had an answer for.
He poured glasses of bourbon for everyone. He brought the first one to Marilyn. He held it up to her. Marilyn still hadn't looked up.
"Love?" called Klaus. Marilyn looked up with a flinch. She took the glass from him, her eyes returning to the floor again.
Klaus knelt by the chair, squatting down. He held her hands on her lap and glanced at her. "Marilyn talk to me."
"I'm...fine. I'll just um...need time." she said trying to deflect a conversation. Marilyn turned to the siblings. "You need answers. I'll give them."
Klaus hung his head low and got up. Stubbornness, a common trait that almost always drove them to the cliff but they came back around always. Marilyn took a sip of the bourbon, letting the taste linger on her tongue for a little longer than necessary. She looked up again, meeting the eyes of the siblings who awaited several answers.
"I am Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil's daughter." she said truthfully. a dreadful silence ensued following her words. As opposed to the silence before this one was troubling, questioning and far more tensed.
"You said that...but um, how is it, like, um.." stuttered Kol, he was stumped beyond words. He looked over at this siblings for some help.
"What my brother fails to ask is, how the bloody hell is it possible to be who you are and how did you end up with my brother." said Rebekah in a steady tone.
Marilyn smiled giving a quick side glance to Klaus. She met his blue eyes that only smiled back at her. "Well, as I think he mentioned before, Nik and I met in 1989. Dad was supposed to go to this event of the year or something and he just couldn't because of something, so instead he sends me in his place. I was not a well known person in the fashion industry just yet so it was fairly good. I did go there expecting it to be an absolute dull day but to my surprise, it was not all boring. Nik did quite the charm to the evening."
"Of course, we didn't fall head first in love immediately. There were...altercations." spoke Klaus bringing three more glasses in hand and handing them to Kol, Rebekah and Elijah. "we were friends for better part of two-three years? Before a drunken soiree led to me finding my perfect Angel."
Marilyn gave him a smug smile before it fell, "How many times, Nik? Don't call me Angel."
"That is okay. He charmed you, you charmed him, but the Devil? What was your mother...a cultist?" asked Kol finally finding his voice. Marilyn and Klaus, both laughed quite loudly at Kol's question. His eyes tossed between the two lacking a clear understanding of what was going on.
"On the contrary, Kol, Mum came from a religious family. She and her father didn't go to church or sermons but she was raised in a strict household. Naturally it did not sit well when she understood she was going to have me." responded Marilyn. she downed her drink in one go and held the glass out to Klaus for another. "It was the years 1947. Mom had just, for the first time gotten inside a party. She was twenty-three at the time. She met boys and booze for the first time. That was the night that she met dad. It was organised by her then boss. She ran accounts for him. Dad was an invite too. They met and that was the night I was made." Marilyn's face turned disgusted for a moment before it returned to it's usual state.
"But...he is the devil."
"Yes, Elijah. My father is the devil. He isn't that bad you know. He's a great dad. He just has a bad reputation. That's all. Anyway, dad as you may have guessed didn't believe mum. He came back on earth about six months later and auntie Rain caught up with him. He naturally didn't expect it to happen. But then my dad's older brother...uncle Amanediel, warrior of the silver city, Heaven for humans confirmed that it was indeed my dad who was my dad. He took the responsibility. He learnt that Mum's family had disowned her and she was living off of paycheck to paycheck, he did everything for her."
Marilyn's story seemed fictitious to everyone except Klaus. "Anyways...fast forward to 1995, the year I introduced Nik to my dad and boy..." she scoffed, "did they become best friends."
"Not surprised." Kol commented with a chuckle.
"Trust me even Grandpa did not see coming what happened to that New years party in 1995, the time the Devil and Niklaus Mikaelson were introduced to one another. Even Grandpa must have slapped his forehead because destruction was born that night." Klaus slammed the glass of drink on the table and turned to her immediately.
"Alright, how many times must I tell you, I was not drunk!" he defended himself.
"I never ever said you were, darling. But you were high. I mean, airplane high. Cocaine, heroin, weed, pills, name a drug and you had it consumed that night. So had dad and I was left with two overly strong, extra old men acting like old buddies and crazy idiots unleashed from a mental asylum."
Klaus fumed at her but let it slide for now. "that's the story of Marilyn Morningstar." said Marilyn.
Kol held his hand up as if gesturing to ask a question while a smile of amusement crawled on his lips. "I want to know more about this New Year's party." while Marilyn beamed brightly at that.
"No." Klaus was trying his best to remain calm. He glared angrily at Kol before he turned to Marilyn. "Don't say anything."
Marilyn lifted her head and glanced at angry Klaus staring back at her. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, "would you stop being so dramatic darling? It isn't like I told them about the breakfast we had together, did I? You can't be that hurt by that."
"Oh no, it is a big deal. Niklaus high is something I have never dealt with." said Elijah showing a smile of amusement that matched his youngest brother's. Klaus growled at his brother's words and gave him a look of warning.
"Careful Elijah, Nik looks like he might snap any minute. He might dagger you." commented Rebekah joining the conversation.
"Shut up all of you!" shouted Klaus, his eyes blazing. All four of them glanced up at him, then at each other before they toppled over laughing. "Go to hell all of you." he said as he turned to walk away.
"Nik, darling come on. Its just fun." Marilyn told him. Klaus turned around again and faced her, "Besides you cannot be serious. Got to hell? I go there every year for centuries at a time."
Rebekah groaned audibly. "Go to hell? Like actual hell?" she asked, voice rising.
"Yes. Dad lives there and so does mum. So every year at the time for mum's birthday I go down in hell to visit them. Nik has actually been there too." Marilyn responded.
"It is unwelcoming to say the least." Klaus muttered under his breath, "but Mazikeen was fun. Her torture methods were exquisite." he smiled in his usual devilish way.
"Wait until uncle Castiel comes here."
Klaus rolled his eyes at the comment and went to have a seat next to Marilyn on the arm of the chair, "good god don't let him. His singing always gets on my last nerve."
Marilyn giggled at the thought. She placed a hand on Klaus' knee and brushed her fingers along his thigh, "it didn't when you did Karaoke with him and sang a duet on 'another one bites the dust' and what was it...ah yes, 'dancing in the street' you were Mick Jagger and uncle was David Bowie." she teasingly smirked and winked at him.
Klaus slapped her hand away with a light smack. "I hate you."
