Paris was meant to be an escape for Isaac Lahey. Chris Argent had helped him make the move, setting him up with a place to stay and some funds. Over time he picked up odd jobs here and there so that he wouldn't end up out on the streets.
It all felt like a farce, though. He felt like he was always fighting internally the urge to return home. The beta missed his friends but going home meant facing everything he'd left behind.
He had left Beacon Hills fifteen years ago after the death of Allison Argent. So much had happened within that year that started with Derek Hale giving him the bite.
He had tried to win back his ex-girlfriend but she had moved on, so he had to too. Once he got past his own pain and saw how happy she was, Isaac knew he had to let her go. That was when things started to change with Allison.
Just as they were growing closer, she was ripped away from him, just like every other good thing in his life. So, he knew that Paris was the best place for him - he wouldn't put others at risk of getting too close to him and falling victim to the darkness that poluted his home town.
So, instead, Isaac Lahey did his best to move on with his life. Currently, he was working as a bartender. It wasn't great but it paid the bills.
Putting his empty coffee mug in the sink in the small kitchen, Isaac gathered his things so that he could leave for work. He had a nine hour late-night shift ahead of him that he wasn't looking forward to.
Putting on his coat he grabbed his keys and went over to the door. He had barely opened it an inch when someone kicked it in from the outside.
Isaac tumbled backwards, landing on his back. "What the fuck?" he growled as he sat up.
Someone entered his apartment wearing a heavy coat that covered his face. Isaac tried to see who it was but he had already turned the lights off and their face was shrouded by the hood.
"When is a door not a door?" the stranger asked.
Isaac scoffed, looking from his own door to the stranger, "Dude, you just broke mine down."
The man reached into his pocket, grabbing something out as he explained himself, "It's a riddle. When is a door not a door?"
"Sounds more like a joke to me. Seriosuly, man, get out of my apartment."
When Isaac didn't answer his riddle, the man tossed the object he'd taken from his pocket at the werewolf. Isaac caught it with ease, turning it in his fingers.
The streetlights through the windows came in just enough that he was able to see what it was. A silver bullet with the Argent crest pressed into it.
"Who are you?" Isaac asked, confused. As far as he knew, the only Argent left was Chris.
"I'll ask one more time, Mr Lahey," the man said, leaving Isaac even more confused. The voice sounded familiar but he still couldn't see his face.
"When is a door not a door?"
"Why are you breaking into my apartment to tell me stupid riddles?"
Isaac thought for a moment, knowing that he had heard this particular riddle before. "When it's 'ajar'," he answered.
"Exactly," the man nodded. "The jar I'm looking for has a special symbol on it, a triskelion, three spirals connected."
Isaac stood up, his suspicions of the man deepening. "I can't say I know what you're talking about. I need you to leave, before I call the police."
He knew exactly what he was talking about. That jar was sitting on a shelf in his living room, where most people just assumed it was for decoration. They didn't know that it held a centuries old spirit that had nearly killed his friends.
This person clearly knew something but Isaac hadn't transformed in a long time - he'd never found the need to. There was less supernatural danger in Paris.
"This is a very special jar, actually," the intruder stated, ignoring Isaac's threat. "It was made from the wood of a sacred tree-"
"Maybe try Pottery Barn; I hear they sell jars."
"This jar was used to capture a dark Kitsune- a trickster spirit called a Nogitsune."
"Alright, so you're clearly crazy and we're done here," Isaac warned. "You need to leave. Now."
Unfortunately, his eyes flickered in the direction of the jar for the slightest second. Seeing this, the man began to walk further into the apartment.
Isaac ran over, eyes glowing as he grabbed the man by the shoulder. "I don't think so," he growled.
The man threw Isaac off, punching him in the process. Isaac brought he claws out, snarling as he slashed at the man. Seeing he had the advantage, Isaac threw the man across the room.
While he was down, the werewolf ran to the living room and grabbed the jar. The only thing in his mind was that he had to get it somewhere safe.
While Isaac was off retrieving the jar, the intruder had drawn a gun from his coat. Before Isaac had the chance to react, the man shot him in the leg.
Normally, this wouldn't phase Isaac thanks to his healing. The effects of the wolfsbane, unfortunately, were felt instantly. He dropped to his knees, the jar slipping from his hands.
The man walked in its direction, Isaac beginning to drag himself over. When it looked like the werewolf was about to reach it, the man shot him in the hand.
"I never liked you, Mr Lahey," the man told him as he knelt over and picked up the jar.
"I'm sure the feeling was mutual," he growled, his eyes bright as he tried to heal himself. "You have no idea what you're doing."
The man chuckled darkly, "I've been searching for this for years. I know precisely what I'm doing."
"I've seen what that thing can do. You can't control that kind of power."
"I don't want to," the cloaked man responded. The man turned the jar in his hands, assessing it to be sure that it was what he came all this way for.
Then, like a whisper on the air, a voice escaped it. "Set me free."
Isaac felt his blood turn to ice. He hadn't heard that voice in a very long time; he'd never wanted to hear it ever again.
"Not until you make me a promise," the intruder told the spirit.
The Nogitsune knew better, though.
"What fool would ask a promise from a trickster spirit?"
The man shrugged, "Call it a mutually beneficial arrangement. If you're as all powerful and omniscient as they say, then you already know what I want."
"You want retribution against him, his friends, and everyone he loves. Set me free and we'll play a new game, a game of chaos, strife and pain!"
Isaac's eyes widened as every single one of his friends back home flashed before his eyes. The Nogitsune was clearly talking about their pack.
The man opened the jar and a firefly flew out; the exact firefly that Isaac had trapped in there fifteen years ago. Once it was gone, the man put the jar in a bag, planning to take it so that it wouldn't be used again.
Isaac limped to his feet, transformed completely with a menacing glare on his face. He flexed his fingers, readying his claws as he took a step towards the man.
"Haven't you already tried this?" he reminded him.
The werewolf ignored him, moving closer. "I won't let you hurt them."
The intruder only sighed before raising the gun and shooting Isaac in the abdomen. The werewolf dropped again, the pain from the three doses of wolfsbane becoming too much.
"I'm sure that you have a lighter here for emergencies," the intruder said as he put the gun away. "You should get onto healing those so you can get on a plane, he wants you there as well. He wants all of you."
Isaac's breathing was slow as he shuffled to sit against the wall, watching the man leave his apartment. Crawling into his kitchen, he rummaged through a draw until he was able to find his lighter - the man wasn't wrong about him having on hand.
And he wasn't wrong about him leaving, either.
It turned out that Isaac would be returning home after all.

(A/N) Please read, I promise future notes will be nowhere near as long
Okay, so I listed this chapter as '0' because it's more of a prologue than anything - the following chapters will be longer. They won't be as long as the ones that I did for the last two books so that I can (hopefully) churn them out faster)
Also, would you guys be okay with it written in third person from Riley's POV? I've just gotten very used to third person recently since all my other stories have been written this way.
I hope you guys like that I used Isaac instead of Liam and Hikari. This is how I imagined it before I saw the movie since the last time we saw Isaac he was taking it with him to Paris.
I will be changing some things throughout the movie in order to fix some plotholes and just change some things.
If you have any ideas or anything you wanted from the movie that didn't happen, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
