Chapter 8) You're Kidding Me?
After Ashley called me and told me what happened, I quickly left the Thunderdome and made my way back to Pensacola.
That bastard couldn't be back after everything he's done to us. Now that we have a son together, my job was to also protect him and Ashley at all costs.
"Shit, shit, shit!" I said to myself as I struggled to find my car keys inside of my duffel bag.
After quickly finding my car keys, I quickly turned on my Range Rover and drove as quickly as I could back to my house.
Hours later, I finally arrived back home and immediately went to our bedroom. I walked into the bedroom to seeing my son peacefully asleep in his crib. She must've brought him down to our bedroom instead. I couldn't find Ashley, but when I did, she was curled up into a fetal position underneath the bed.
"Baby, I'm home." I said in a comforting voice.
When she cooperated with me and allowed me to sit with her on the bed, I looked down at my wife with concern.
"Baby, tell me what's going on. All I heard was Seth was out of prison and I came home as soon as I could."
"I-I just know he might come back for me. After everything he's done to us." Ashley said with her voice cracking as if she was about to shed tears while trembling.
I looked into her eyes as they were full of sadness and trauma. I kneeled down on both knees in front of her whilst gently bringing her hand into mine.
"Nah babe, I'm not going to allow that bastard to ever lay his hands on you or our son. He's going to have to get through me first and he knows what I'm capable of. You have nothing to worry about, dear."
I gently swept the hair from Ashley's forehead and planted a kiss.
Loto awoken from his slumber and started to cry. I watched as Ashley left our bed to pick him up.
"Loto, it's okay sweetheart. Mommy's just not feeling really good today."
"Want me to take him off your hands, Ash?"
"If you want to."
I picked up my son and looked into his eyes. He really does take after me and that brought a smile to my face.
"Daddy's here, son."
I held Loto close to me as I walked upstairs and into his bedroom. Then I gently placed him into his second crib.
"Mommy's not feeling well right now. I have to take care of her right now and I need you to get some sleep."
I sat there for ten minutes and waited for Loto to fall asleep. When his eyes started to droop and he began to yawn, he fell asleep and I covered him up and quietly left his bedroom and silently went down the stairs. When I opened our bedroom, she was still sitting on the bed and staring at the floor.
"Hey, the baby's asleep."
I sat down next to her.
"That's great. I'm just terrified right now."
"I understand. He's not going to come anywhere near you babe. Remember? We have a restraining order against him. If he were to break that restraining order, he'll be sent back to prison."
"I know. I just think that he's going to end up doing something drastic between us and I'm more worried about the baby because who knows what he'd do to him."
"I wouldn't let him approach you, our son, or the family. He has no chance and he doesn't have the balls to come back and cause trouble again after what we done to him."
Ashley then pulled me into a hug while sitting on my lap. I wrapped both of my arms around her and looked into her eyes as they met with mine.
I said in a comforting voice, "Listen, I'm a man of my word when I tell you that I won't allow anyone to harm you both. You and Loto, along with my family are my life and I'd never let anything happen to you guys."
I leaned forward as her lips met with mine, "I love you."
She replied, "I love you too."
I continued to hold Ashley as she was feeling terrified at the thought ofΒ Seth returning to cause our family harm. After everything he put her through, I understood that she still lives with the trauma; despite the therapy she took before we had our son.
While Loto was asleep in the crib upstairs, I comforted Ashley throughout the night and ran my fingers through her hair while she was asleep to bring her comfort. As her husband and a father to our son, I have to protect them even more because of him being out of prison.
Ashley's always been an important part of my life ever since we first met in the WWE and seeing the things she went through would always break my heart. From the two comas she's had to the way he raped her, I understood why she was terrified. Now that we have a child together, I've become even more protective. As a father and a husband, I vowed to them that I'd always keep them safe; even if that means I have to get my hands dirty when it comes to Seth.
While I'm currently the Universal Champion and also having a new start in my career as a heel, I'm also having to make sure my wife and son don't get in harms way.
I couldn't fathom on how much I cried when she was in a coma at the hospital. Ambrose, Renee and many more of our friends watched me have constant breakdowns. I remember being afraid of losing Ashley when she was in her months coma and it took months after she woke up to regain her full memory back.
When she was pregnant with our son, she would always stress out if Seth was going to break out of prison and harm her again.
But while Ashley and Loto were peacefully asleep for the night, I walked outside onto our balcony and pulled out my phone. I needed to call the closest friend in my life.
"Hey."
"Rome? Is everything alright?"
"Yeah. Well, kind of."
"What's going on? Did anything happen between you and Ashley?"
"No, nothing like that."
"Hey, you can tell me, buddy. You're my best friend; more like a brother."
"You see, Ashley and I found out that Seth is out of prison now and I'm worried for her and my son while I'm not around."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. I'm pissed and worried at the same time, man."
"Look, he's not that stupid to come and bother you guys again. Trust me."
"I know but if he were to find out about Ashley and I being married and having a baby together, who knows what that bastard has planned?"
"I don't know, Rome. You three stay safe please."
"We will, Ambrose. Thanks for talking to me tonight, man."
"No problem. I'll talk to you when I have a free schedule because over here in AEW, it's hectic but I'm enjoying this company way more than I did back in WWE. No offence, Rome."
"Non taken." I chuckled. "I'm going to let you take care of what you need to do. Hit me up anytime you need to talk and I'll be here."
After hanging up with Ambrose, I finally left the balcony and decided to get some rest for the night.
