Chapter 12) Here Comes Trouble

Ashley was sitting at home while I decided on taking Loto outside to explore around Pensacola with me. It was hours of endless fun with my son and knowing that I was having another child on the way was an exciting moment in my life. Not only was Loto my first son, but I might have another son or a daughter to protect in the future.

While Ashley was sitting at home and relaxing on the sofa, watching her favorite movie on the television, she could hear her phone beginning to ring and received a mysterious call from someone with an unknown number that gave her quite the eerie vibe.

"Um, hello?" She said.

"Hello."

A voice so nonchalantly spoken in a sense that sent goose bumps on her arms in fear.

Ashley said with a worried tone in her voice, "Who is this?"

"That doesn't matter."

"Of course it matters. You sound-" She paused. "Familiar."

She could hear chuckles emerge from the phone as her face began to become pale after she figured out who was on the phone with her. Ashley dropped her phone in freight after discovering that Seth had her new phone number. Ashley heard a murmur on the phone before he hung up. Ashley then began to faint onto the floor shortly after.

After my son and I finished eating lunch together and sat down on the bench at our local park, I started to receive an uneasy feeling in my chest. I paused.

"Daddy?" Loto asked, "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, daddy's fine." I said without emotion.

"Are you sure?" He replied, looking up at my face full of concern.

"Yeah. Maybe we should head on home, son."

"Okay."

I drove back home with my son and as we made it back home, I opened the door and began to call for my wife.

"Ashley, we're home!"

A sudden feeling of chills went down my spine as there was nothing but silence. All we could hear was the TV background noise but I didn't hear my wife making a sudden noise. I walked around the room until Loto and I made it to the living room.

"Mommy!" Loto cried.

I looked down and saw my wife lying on the floor as if she was unconscious.

"Ashley? Baby, wake up!"

I panicked.

She struggled to open her eyes but when she did, all I could see was the tears that were beginning to stream down her cheeks.

"Seth's come back, Ro."

"Seth?" I asked.

"Yes, I knew it from the moment we heard that he was out of prison. He somehow found my new phone number and it came up as an unknown number. I went to answer it and the voice was definitely him. I asked who was speaking to me and the voice alone was a dead giveaway. Not just that, but the chuckles that he made was clear that it was him, Ro. It was him!" Ashley said in a panic.

"Who is that and why is mommy crying?" Loto asked, gently tugging on the side of her shirt.

"Don't worry, son." I sighed. "Please, go to your bedroom and play with your action figures. I need to have a talk with your mother."

I waited for my son to head upstairs and I took Ashley into our bedroom and closed the door.

All I could feel was aggression at the thought of this bastard coming back to harm my wife, my son and my unborn child. Without any control, I could feel my blood beginning to boil and I punched the wall as hard as I could and pulled back. My fist was beginning to gush out blood from the anger I was feeling.

"That... bastard."

"Ro." Ashley said in a quiet tone.

"No, I'm not allowing him to come into contact with you ever again! After the hell he put us through, I refuse to relive that terrifying nightmare again. The way he put you into that coma that you could've died in, the way he done those things to you. I-"

Ashley stopped me in my tracks with her arms wrapping from behind me and her face buried into my back. Immediately, I silenced myself as I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly to calm myself down after feeling the anger throughout my body.

"I'm sorry. I just don't want to lose you, our son and our unborn baby." I said, turning around and placing my hand onto her stomach gently, looking into her eyes.

"You're not going to lose us, Ro."

"I just care so much for you and our family, Ash."

"I know you do but we can't live our lives in fear just because of him. I understand that I have my moments from the trauma he caused me throughout my entire life but I'm sure he isn't stupid enough to approach us."

"I hope you're right."

"Let's get some rest. Hopefully everything will be better for us in the morning, Ro."

"Okay."

First, I had to make sure that Loto was asleep for the night before I fell asleep and I walked back into the bedroom. I crawled into the bed and wasn't able to fall asleep for the next few hours. I tossed and turned with thoughts running through my head. All I could do was stare at the ceiling with concern in my eyes and when I turned my head to the side, Ashley was peacefully sleeping next to me. I turned over and pulled her close into my arms while I closed my eyes and finally fell asleep for the night.
