At the bar in the Windmill village of their hometown, where it wasn't busy like usual full of pirates or civilians drinking inside of it, Luffy narrowed his eyes at an empty liquor bottle, and was standing in the middle of the bar testing out his new devil fruit powers.
(Y/N) was sat on the actual bar bench with Shanks' hat on her head, which was too big for her so it hanged down, and was swinging her feet watching her older brother with a wide grin.
Sometimes without even realising it, her kicks would sent out small gusts of wind that helped Luffy knock down the objects he wanted to move, and cheered with him when he did hit them, unaware she did the work for her brother.
"You want trouble?" He asked not specifically to anyone, eyes narrowing down more on the bottle he wanted gone of the stool, "You just found it."
He clenched his fist tightly making his knuckles pop under the pressure, "Gum Gum... Pistol!" Winding his stretch arm behind him, he released it and not only had hit the bottle, but one of the bars stools also.
"Luffy, can't you practice somewhere else?" Makino questioned with a scold, carrying a tray of bottles as she walked up to where (Y/N) was on the counter, and smiled at her in greeting, gaining a soft giggle back.
"I can fix it. Got any glue?" He reponsed back with a question of his own, sitting down on the platform behind the tables, and held the broken stool in his hands.
"It's not the chair I'm worried about." She muttered to herself, handing the little girl a small glass of juice that she took happily, and moved to clean the counter beside her, "You need to be careful with your new abilities. I know it's exciting, and you wanna impress your sister, but there might be some people who'll be afraid of you now that you're..." She paused flickering her eyes to both of the siblings, "different."
"I like being different, and that means I can be just like (N/N)." Luffy answered proudly looking up at his sister drinking the juice unbothered, as Shanks' hat had fell over her forehead making him snickering, "These devil fruit powers are gonna make us the greatest pirate duo ever."
Makino placed the cleaning rag over her shoulders, walking around to where he was sitting and crossed her arms to glance down at the younger boy, "Luffy, what do you know about devil fruits?"
"They don't taste very good." He stated making a grimacing face, before it changed into a small smile looking at the broken stool in his arms, "But they also apparently gave life to (Y/N), so I know they have to be great."
The bar keeper scoffed fondly at his answers, unfolding her arms to take a seat beside him on the long wooden platform, "No two are the same, expect for the Nine tail." She began to explain hesitantly, fearing the other girl would find out, but knew she wasn't listening right now.
"You see, they each grant you a unique ability, but there's a reason they're called devil fruits. It's because of the deal you make when you eat one." She scooted closer to him, "Mother ocean turns her back on you, and the sea can take away your strength."
Luffy furrowed his brows a bit confused hearing this, "But can't (Y/N) swim? She may struggle doing it, but I've seen how the water treats her." He remarked in a quiet whisper, "It didn't turn its back on her that's for sure."
Makino tensed up a bit at the boys observation skills, having a feeling he would eventually ask more questions than he was already doing. "That's because she's completely different to normal users." She tells him exhaling softly, and spared a quick glance to (Y/N) giggling over Shanks' hat on the bench, "Your sister was born with the power, not given to her by eating a devil fruit."
He made a surprised face with his mouth, gasping in amazement at the news as he had always sensed there was something special about her, "Does she even know that though?"
Makino shakes her head rapidly straight away, sitting up to face him better and takes his hands both in hers, to gently squeeze them, "No, only Shanks, his crew, you and me know. And it will stay that way for her safety, Luffy."
Luffy's face scrunched up not liking the fact he had to keep this big of a secret about his other half, and slipped his hands back out of hers, looking off to the side in deep thought over this.
She frowned deeply at his reaction knowing this was going to be hard for him, and that's one of the reasons why none of them told Luffy, "You ever heard of, 'there's no such thing as a free lunch'?" She questioned now, trying to get off that heavy subject from before.
"Is it lunchtime?" He almost immediately snapped out of his own mind at the mention of food, turning his head around to her with wide eyes.
Chuckling through her teeth, she hands him some glue that he takes in his hand, and stands back up from her spot on the platform, "How about you put my chair back together, and I'll see what I can find in the kitchen?"
(Y/N) was kicking the back of her shoes into the bars bench underneath her mindlessly, humming to herself as she sips from the juice in her hand. Her big eyes land on Shanks walking towards them, and it had her lips breaking into a beaming grin.
"Shanks! Shanks!" She called to him like a frantic puppy dog, placing her drink to the side as she waved her hand around, and the other was holding on top of his hat.
His head perked up at the sound of her voice, mouth spreading to form a bright smile seeing his daughter figure, and made his way over there from across the small bridge connecting the bar to the other houses.
"Shanks! You gotta see what I can do now." Luffy declares excitedly seeing the male now arriving, placing the broken chair on the wood and rushed to stand up, as he goes to bring his arm back behind, "Gum gum-"
"Luffy, no! I'm running out of furniture." Makino was quick to intervene watching this happen, tone being a scolding one as she cleans up more of her bar tables.
"I'd listen to the lady, Luffy." The red haired pirate advised, as he was taking off his hat from on (Y/N)'s head, and pressed a swift kiss to the side of her face afterwards, that had her squealing a giggle.
The young boy gasped remembering something, and rushed over to Shanks standing beside his sister sitting on a crate now, "You have to let us join your crew. I'm tougher than ever know, so I can protect (N/N) with you and the other crew mates."
"Just because you're made of rubber does not mean you're invincible." Shanks retorted amusedly, and poured some alcohol into a small cup that was once the girls juice cup that now had nothing inside.
"I'll do anything. I won't take up much space, nor will my sister." He held his knees to his chest, making himself smaller to prove his point, as (Y/N) copied her brother giggling happily, not even knowing what was happening.
"Makino came through, Captain." Yasopp spoke up from behind the trio, walking up to the crates sat against the bar's entrance with Roux next to him, "Enough supplies for a few months then some."
This had both the siblings perking up confused hearing that information, which made Roux hit Yasopp's chest telling him to be quiet spotting the two sitting a stool, and sent their captain an apologetic look.
"A few months? Are you going after the One Piece?" (Y/N) now was doing the talking in her timid, happy voice, and swings her feet back and forth awaiting his answer, while Luffy already was frowning sadly at Shanks.
"Yeah, as soon as we resupply."
"When will you be back?" She chirps sweetly and looks up at the pirate with a toothy grin, one that crushed his heart with guilt knowing what he had to say next.
Shanks turned his head towards her slowly, a soft sigh escaping him as he goes to kneel down to her height, and gently grabbed her smaller hands in his, "We're not coming back." His voice gets caught in his throat painfully.
Her big round (E/C) eyes go wider hearing his sudden confession, shaking her head rapidly in protest as her bottom lip started to tremble which made his chest tightened even more at her reaction.
"(Y/N), sweetheart-" He tries to open his mouth to talk, but she was already pulling away from him and hopped off the stool with her head hang low, as she sat down curled up inside of Luffy's arms away from Shanks.
Makino sighed spotting the slumped figures of the siblings on the platform, and the tears lining the younger girls cheeks, "What did you tell them?"
Shanks pursed his lips, a saddened expression over his features turning his head back to glance at them, and exhaled tremulously, "The truth."
......
The moon hung high in the velvety sky, casting a shimmering silver pathway upon the tranquil waters of the East Blue sea. A gentle breeze whispered through the sails of the boat they were on, carrying with it the salty scent of the ocean, as dark clouds lay up in the sky.
Her (E/C) eyes open up from getting lost in another one of her childhood memories, the girl sitting up on the front of the deck away from the other three, as she had the very familiar old book inside her lap. The one about the Nine tail devil fruit.
Behind her Luffy and Nami were dealing with the safe, well more like Luffy not sitting still for a second, and annoying Nami as she tried to break into the safe. While Zoro, who she stopped peeking on was resting inside the cabin room, and tried to get some sleep, but couldn't since the other two were so loud.
A orange flame of her fire-force was lit inside her left palm, straw hat hanging by her neck to left her hair air out for now, and used the fire's light to read over the notes Shanks left inside the book.
Which were question marks over the texts, others asking where the power it was talking about first came from, if the person mentioned in the text was a girl very important to him, and many more bits written down of someone progress of the power. It made her confused seeing that and the stages, wondering who Shanks had taken notes about.
Majority of them were very hard to read which made her wonder if he was in a rush, or if her father actually just had bad hand writing. Just the thought of it, made a small chuckle escape her lips, and shakes her head.
She moved her fire-force flame towards another page of the rippled up book, lips twitching up into a bittersweet smile seeing a sticky-taped photo of her, Shanks and Luffy together when the siblings were little, all looking very happy back then.
Shanks had the two in his arms perched on his hips, while they had their arms around his shoulders, all grinning widely at Makimo who had taken the photo back then, and made the three pose nicely for it.
(Y/N) remembered the day like the back of her hand, when everything was much simplere and when Shanks was still around with them. But now, in the present, he was off being a pirate, and they haven't seen him ever since he left them with his hats.
Her fingers of her free hand graze over the scratched, and crumbled photo of them, but it still was in good quality despite how much it's been through with her.
Keeping her fingers on that, her eyes flickered over to her right wrist seeing the handmade bracelet he gave him, and sighed heavily to herself. To this very day when Shanks gave that to her, she hasn't taken if off ever since, and that included the straw hat.
Shaking away those depressing thoughts of her longed for father, she flicks her wrist making the flame disappear, slipping the book back safely inside of her bag, and stood up from the deck to adjust the straw hat over her head.
A longer coat that reached just past her ankles was over her original outfit now, thanks to Luffy who forced her to wear it since it was cold out on the sea. She crossed her arms over her chest, and made her way back over to where the other two were with the safe.
"One man's trash is another man's treasure." He was quoting to Nami holding his own straw hat, as he had caught it before it flew away, and told Nami this since she was asking why he kept that old looking thing.
Zoro groans from inside of the cabin area, causing (Y/N) to perk up popping her head around the corner to look at his laying down figure, "Will you two knock it off?" He complained, arms resting behind his head to give himself a pillow, "I'm trying to take a nap."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Were we interrupting your beauty sleep?" Nami sarcastically asked, turning her head towards him from off the safe, and scowled at him annoyed.
"Don't like what you see? Look away." He blatantly rumbled out, one of his dark eyes opening to glance at (Y/N) in the doorway, which caused her to flinch and quickly hide getting spotted by him. His lips twitched up a tad at her reaction, but forced it away to roll over onto his side, and grumbled to himself.
Nami ignored what the male had said, laying back down against the safe as she moved the lock once more, and it suddenly thuds loudly. Inwardly gasping hearing this, she grins in triumph.
Sitting up away from off the safe, she turns the handle left which had the siblings moving up to her now, and watched as she opened the metal revealing the map, along with some of Morgan's other prized belongings and successes.
"You did it!" Luffy cheered in a whisper, sharing a side hug with his sister beside him as they both smiled widely at each other, and then back at Nami.
Nami sighs out a chuckle in slight disbelief, reaching down to take the map out and closed the safe afterwards. She pulled off the canisters lid, and toke out the rolled paper, as Zoro exited the cabin to join them standing beside (Y/N), the only one he didn't find annoying right now.
Unrolling the crinkled up map in Nami's hands, Zoro walks forward towards the safe, lifting it up a bit to glance inside it, and found nothing useful to him in there, "That's it? Isn't there supposed to be gold inside a safe?" He questioned the orange head monotony, "Or jewels?"
"This is more valuable than gold. It's knowledge." Nami states looking at the swordsman's like he had three eyes, and slapped her hand against the map for emphasis, "This is a map to the Grand Line."
"The Grand Line. Ah." Luffy paused his talking, as a lost and confused expression takes over his features, and glanced back to his sister who looked the same, "The Grand Line is just right..." He looked over the map unsure on where the destination was, "Where is it exactly?"
Nami moved her blue gaze onto the siblings incredulously, and questioned them while deadpanning a little bit, "You're going there, but you don't know where it is?"
(Y/N) folded her hands behind her back in front of Zoro's sideward turned body, as she tilts her head at Nami and beamed at her talking in a hinting tone, "Guess we need a navigator on our crew."
The orange haired girl sighed heavily with a fake eyeroll, before motioning for the group to follow her inside of the cabin room with her. She stood in front of a hanging drawing board, while the other three were around it waiting to see what she was going to do.
"The seas are divided into four quadrants. East Blue, North Blue, West, South." She began to explain, using a piece of chalk to draw out a diagram of the said thing on the board they were standing around.
She drew a strip of land in the middle of the circle, and pointed to it with her fingers, "This strip of land that circles the globe is called the Red Line, and this is band across the middle is the Grand Line," She drew another line over the entire circle to show what she meant, "A treacherous stretch of ocean with bigger islands, bigger cities, bigger pirates. Flush with riches, and ripe for the picking."
(Y/N) nodded to herself enthusiastically from in her spot beside Zoro, hands on her hips as she taps her boot against the wood grinning at them, "And that's where we're gonna find the One Piece."
His dark eyes flickered away from her shorter figure, "I've taken out a lot of pirates looking for that thing." Zoro claimed in his raspy voice, gaining their attention now, as he asked curiously, "What is it? Like, a big diamond or something?"
"It's Gold Roger's treasure." Luffy jumped in explaining what it was, and smiled to himself just thinking about the very object of his and his sisters dream, "He hid it somewhere in the Grand Line. All in one piece."
Nami threw her hands up a bit furstraighed, "It's a myth. Just like the Nine Tail devil fruit that everyone is searching for." She remarked seriously, which made Luffy tense up a bit at the last words, "The reason no one's found the treasure in 22 years, and the Nine Tail for over centuries, is that none of it exists."
"Can't wait to see the look on your face when we find itttt." The Monkey D. girl trails out her words teasingly at Nami, raising her eyebrows as she was blissfully unaware of how her brother was panicking beside her.
All of a sudden a explosion goes off outside near their boat, illuminating the captains quarters in a bright red light that caused them all to snap their heads up startled hearing and seeing this happening.
"Is that the Marines?" Zoro was quick to ask with his hand on his swords, body somewhat standing in front of (Y/N)'s subconsciously that had her biting back a squeal, and went for a nervous noise instead.
All of them rushed outside knowing something was about to happen, as the red light forms a red smoke dome around them inside the ship's deck. Another explosions went off in the air, but a few yards above the first one placed upon them, as a nasty scent invaded their noises now.
"This smoke smells weird."
Her (E/C) eyes went wide realising what was happening to them, senses spiking up drastically as she goes to send gusts of air towards the red stuff, and successfully blows some of it away. Though it just kept coming down, giving her no time to actually stop it from affecting everyone beside her.
A loud thudding noise sounded beside her which had her turning around, to spot Nami's falling body onto the deck, and she quickly caught her before she fell face first. Trying to block out the smell from making her dizzy, she gently placed Nami onto the deck coughing.
Luffy was waving his hand around to try and get rid of the overbearing smoke around them, other hand tugging at his sisters wrist to pull her up behind him, as he knew this was an ambushing being placed upon them,
"Raise-" Zoro goes to strain out before coughing because of the smoke, walking a few steps forward towards the front of the ship, before he too fell unconscious onto the floor.
"Zoro!" (Y/N) exclaimed seeing his broad figure going down also, ignoring her own weakness from the smoke as she rushed over to catch his body in her arms also, and it sent them both stumbling to the floor because of it.
She had his back resting against her chest as he laid in between her legs, with her arms around his waist to try and tug him upwards. She groaned tiredly now feeling even more weaker than before, trying to stand up with him but couldn't get her wobbly legs to move.
"Lu! Get the map-" She called out sluggish to her brother through the smoke coughing, blurry vision just spotting him trying to make his way over but stopped at the sound of her voice, and she watched his reluctantly rush back into the cabin leaving her.
Just before her vision went dark from the effects of the smoke, she glanced down at Zoro's knocked out face resting on her, before out to the ocean seeing a large ship appraochingn from in the shadows. A clown based jolly roger.
"Oh, shi-" Her slurred word get cut off short when her eyes fluttered closed, and fell back onto the floor knocked out with Zoro slipping off to lean against her side.
......
The bright day of the sun's light peaks through the small gaps of wood planks, the four of them now trapped inside of a wooden box, and were taking away from their first environment, to one on land.
A small tried groan escaped (Y/N)'s lips, eyes slowly fluttering open to take in the new lighting and scenery change around her. She glanced around hazily inside the box, finding all the others still knocked out around her which had her sighing in relief.
Though she only then felt a weight against her shoulder, causing her to tense nervously and turn her eyes to the source briefly. She bit back her gasp spotting Zoro's head resting against her shoulder in a slouched position, making her realise her head must of been placed on top of his as well.
She gulped harshly feeling his warm breathes blow onto her expose skin of her neck, mentally freaking out inside her mind as she tried to keep her movements little to not wake him up.
"Zoro..." She whispered softly against the side of his head, manoeuvering her body a bit so her hand could touch him, while at the same time nudging her brother awake beside them, "Lu."
Luffy wakes up hearing his sisters familiar warm voice, blinking for a couple of seconds before he sat up straight and went to try and wake up Nami laying down in the cart.
The swordman didn't show any signs of waking up even at her voice being so close, which caused her to gently press her hand onto his cheek, nose almost touching his from how close they were, as she shakes him softly, "Hey, wake up Zoro."
Instantly he jolted awake at that, fluttering opening his lidded eyes as they made eye contact with her (E/C) worried ones close to his face, and he released a exhale that had her skin, not even noticing the position they were in together.
Once she knew he was alright and fully up now from his unconscious state, she sent him a crooked, sheepishly smile as she pulled herself away from holding him, and shuffled more towards Luffy's side with heated ears.
It didn't help her embarrassed state either feeling his dark eyes burn holes into the side of her, sensing he was staring intently at her from where he sat in the corner, as he probably realised what had happened before.
"They took my swords." He eventually rasped out moving his gaze away from her, as he finally realised where they were, and didn't feel his weapons around his waist.
"And my rucksack, ugh," Nami groans from still laying on the wooden floor, and held her head in between her hands upset, "with all my navigation gear."
(Y/N) was quick to reach for her head as Luffy did the same thing as her, and they both let out a sigh of relief when they felt the straw hats still resting there, really glad whoever captured them didn't take it.
After finding that out, she glanced down to see her bracelets still all in place, along with her bag around her shoulders, and felt that the book was still in there also, sending instant relief over her more.
"Damn it, we've lost the map!" Nami exclaimed remembering the very thing they were kidnapped for, and sat up to stand in the box with the others.
Shaking her head rapidly at Nami's words, the (H/C) haired girl goes to shoot up quickly not hearing Zoro's warning about the wood, as she slammed the top of her head into the crates roof, making Luffy wince and the other two sigh knowingly at her clumsy ways
A yelping groan escaped her lips at the hit, crouching down to cradle her sore head as she rubs the back of it whimpering, "Ow, ow ow." She mumbled to herself, before glancing up at Nami, "We didn't lose the map, Luffy has it somewhere safe."
The male patted his stomach in emphasis to her words with a cheeky smile, and it caused Nami to make a disgusted face, "Ew. Hey." Her eyes went wide watching Zoro punch the wood of the crates, and seethed out, "Stop. Stop that."
"What? I'm trying to find a way out." Zoro rumbled back annoyed, eyes narrowed down while glancing around inside of the crate as he had his right elbow resting on the wood.
"We've been captured. We need a plan."
"I don't need a plan." He retorted with venom coating his tone, pressing more onto the wood to try and break it as he clenched his jaw tightly, "I just need to beat the hell out of every Marine I see."
Both of the siblings shared a small look in between each other at their fighting, and (Y/N) goes to wave her hands around frantically gaining the two's attention, "Hey, guys, relax. We're fine, seriously-"
"We're not fine. The Marines will throw us in fail if we're lucky." Nami hissed back in a lowered voice, pushing up against the crates roof to try and move it off, "Execute us if they don't."
Luffy rushed over towards Nami now taking over the reassuring, as he placed a hand onto her shoulder to calm her down, "They are not Marines. Before I got knocked out, I saw a Jolly Roger." He made his voice into a whisper, "We've been captured by pirates."
"That's much better news."
"No, he's right." Zoro remarked in agreement, nodding his head as his eyes got a dangerous glint in them now, "Marines have training. Pirates are easier to kill."
(Y/N) flicked the brim of her straw hat hearing his words, moving her wrists around that caused her bracelets to make a chiming sound, "Shanks used to say not every situation can be solved with violence."
His head turned down towards her shorter figure by his side, gaze only softening for a few seconds on her as he grunted out lowly, "Who the hell is Shanks?"
She tilted her head back up at him, flashing him her award wining beaming grin from through her hat, and crossed her arms over her chest, "We don't need to fight. I'm sure me and Lu can talk to them. Pirates to Pirates."
"That won't work." Nami suddenly claimed from beside Zoro now, which had the siblings frowning a bit confused at her, and she went on talking, "To start, you're not real pirates. You are just a pair in tattered hats."
"We're different kind of pirates." Luffy defended them causally, and smiled his dorky grin that made his nose scrunch up, similar to how his sister looked doing it.
Nami's mouth went into a straight line, and her facial expression turned into a harsher one looking between the pair, "Pirates are pirates. There's only one kind."
All of a sudden the top of the crate is pulled off from the wood, making them all quickly look up alarmed as circus music filled their ears. Bright lights hit their vision in doing so, as they were multicoloured shining around the red and whit tent. People were dressed up in circus attire spin around with their equipment, and do tricks cross their crate through the air, or on the floor.
(Y/N)'s hand found her brothers one next to her, making him take it in his rough one to hold her hand gently, and gave her a reassuring squeeze sensing how she was feeling about their current situation.
The sides of the crate were now lifted up also, letting the four of them out to the actual show playing for them. Gradually the entire crate was taken apart by something, and it cleared their way from being stuck anymore.
Everyone in the crowd claps with tears in their eyes, that were meant to be from joy but were the quiet opposite to that. The tears were ones of fear, and stress because of how they were trapped, by the chains around their ankles keeping them inside the tent to be the audience.
Luffy soon joined them not seeing the problem yet, but was stopped by his sister tugging on his shirt with a slow head shake, and a look that told him to not question why she did that right now. Knowing it was serious, he went back to holding her hand, and looked around the circus.
However, over the loud noise of the clapping of hands a male's shouting voice was just heard, and it was followed by footsteps coming out from the entrance of the tent, "No, no, no. No!"
