CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
SHE WAS HERE
THE THREE PULLED UP AT the motel, the three women sitting in the car for a moment. Theodora Barton looked out the window, raising an eyebrow as she turned her head to glance between Liliya and Wanda. The older woman was concerned. The motel they had pulled up looked run down, and almost abandoned.
"This girl must've really been hiding from someone." Theodora breathed as she, Liliya, and Wanda all got out of the car.
"We have to find her." Wanda whispered, her eyes running over the building.
"We will." Liliya assured the girl, placing a hand on Wanda's shoulder as she offered the woman a reassuring smile. Theodora went first. The older woman rolled her eyes at the lack of an employee at the front desk, sighing as she turned to walk down the hallway. Her heels clicked against the floor, slowly narrowing her eyes at every door, before she stopped.
"Theo? What is it?" Wanda asked the woman, stopping beside of Liliya and watching with nervous eyes as Theodora continued to look over the door. The woman pursed her lips, cocking her head slightly before softly sighing and placing her hand on the door. A gasp fell from her lips, immediately alarming both of them.
"Are you sure she's here?" A talk man with dark hair asked, narrowing his eyes dangerously at the other man who was looking up at him, almost as if he were scared.
"I'm sure. We've tracked her down to this motel."
"And the room number?"
"They wouldn't tell us. Said that it wasn't their information to share." The man sighed.
The leader of the group sighed, clenching his jaw angrily. "Why do I have to do everything myself? We'll just kick down every door until we find her."
Theodora blinked. Slowly pulling her hand away from the door as she frowned, her eyebrows furrowed. She wondered what was so special about this girl that made the entirety of HYDRA want her in their grasp. Wanda and Liliya looked at Theodora expectantly, the longer the woman didn't speak, the more anxious that Wanda became. She bit nervously on her lip.
"Well?" Wanda impatiently questioned.
"She was here." Theodora nodded. "So were the people that were after her. Why exactly are they after her again?"
"I don't know." Wanda admitted, shaking her head. "But I know she has powers. She can travel through dreams. That's probably it. Either way, we have to find her, something's going to happen to her if it hasn't already."
"Come on." Liliya spoke, nodding for her head for the group to continue forward. Theodora touched all of the doors, waiting for any recognition of the girl until she found it. She looked at the room for a moment before turning her head towards the two and nodding her head. Liliya sighed before walking up to the door, kneeling and pulling the lock and kit set from her back pocket and quickly using it to unlock the door. She smiled in satisfaction at the click of the door unlocking.
"Who's been slacking now?" Liliya asked, smirking towards Theodora who just rolled her eyes. The three entered the room, noticing the bed that was still unmade, the TV that was still on, and the bags that were still on the floor. Bethany had definitely been here. The three looked around the room. And it was Wanda that noticed the dreamcatcher that was on the wall. The girl climbed onto the bed, standing up and carefully grabbing the dreamcatcher.
"Will this work?" Wanda questioned, turning to show it to the Barton woman. Theodora looked up towards her before nodding her head. Wanda climbed down from the bed, handing the item to Theodora. The woman held onto for a moment before a gasp fell from her lips.
She walked over to her bag and pulling out her dreamcatcher. She sat back on the bed, biting her bottom lip as she ran her hand over the material. She fingered the feathers of the dreamcatcher, a soft sigh falling from her lips as she tilted her head slightly.
"Come on, work for me please." She quietly begged before standing up and hanging the dreamcatcher up on the wall. She removed herself from the bed, looking at the dreamcatcher as it sat there, taunting her. She frowned slightly before doing the same thing she did every night. She placed a chair under the doorknob, locking the door before crawling under the covers. She placed her head onto the pillow before she looked up at the dreamcatcher one last time before muttering the words, "Please work." And then, she closed her eyes, hoping that she would slip into a peaceful slumber.
Bethany woke up with a sharp gasp, her eyes falling on the door just as it was kicked open. The chair went flying across the room. For some reason, one completely unknown to her, she stood up and grabbed her dreamcatcher instead of trying to make a run for it. A man entered, the one Theodora had seen earlier, his eyes trained on Bethany before he smirked. He walked up to her, placing a hand under her chin as he looked into her eyes that were filled with fright.
"Finally," He breathed, before knocking her out.
"Oh my god." Theodora breathed. "This was definitely hers. But there's no trace of knowing where she went. Or where they've taken her."
Wanda closed her eyes, sighing, running a hand through her hair before whispering, "Dammit."
