CHAPTER ONE:
MEMORIES
BETHANY DENNINGS WAS IN HIDING. She was a twenty-two-year-old, running away from HYDRA, and she was on her own. When HYDRA had found out about Beth, she was immediately on the run. She had heard of the thing HYDRA had done. She's read all of the files that S.H.I.E.L.D. had released, or rather the files that Natasha Romanoff had released. She kept up with everything going on in her chaotic world, especially HYDRA.
She heard about the experimentation's that Eloise Gardner, and Liliya Petrova had been through, and how it ruined them and made them something they didn't want to be. Or, Sapphire Simmons, and Avery Barton. She had heard of all of them and the awful things they went through, and she didn't want to be HYDRA's next victim. So, she hid.
Beth sat in an old rundown apartment building, paying for a one nights stay with cash only and a fake alias. She sat on the bed, opening her bag and pulling out her dreamcatcher. It was a simple one, three blue feathers hanging down from the black circle that had a moon design on the inside with little stars. She ran her fingers over the designs, tears pooling in her eyes as she looked at it. She remembered when she and her mother went out to buy it together. Her mother also tragically dying that day.
"Mom?" The thirteen-year-old asked her mother, biting the inside of her cheek. Delilah turned around to face her, drying her wet hands off with a towel from where she had been cleaning the dishes. She offered her daughter a small smile.
"Yes, baby?"
"D-do you think. . . do you think we can go to the store and buy me a dreamcatcher?" Beth quizzed. Beth had been experiencing awful dreams, she would wake up with several cuts on her body, some of which she would have to get stitches for because they were so deep. To say her mother was worried for her would be an understatement. "I've just been having these really bad dreams, and I know there's legend that dream catchers actually work. . ."
"Of course, sweetheart. I've been meaning to go to the store and get more foods anyways." And so, the duo left the home and to the store in hopes of finding Beth the one thing that would hopefully take her nightmares away. While her mother went to buy more food, Beth looked around the store before she found exactly what she wanted. It was an aisle full of miscellaneous things, and dream catchers were one of them.
They ranged in all colors, shapes, and sizes, but Beth knew almost immediately which one she wanted. She walked up to the item, her hands falling gently on the feathers that were attached to it. She picked it off of the hanger and examined it, a confident nod was placed and she walked back to her mother with a small smile on her face.
Beth pulled herself away from the memory, knowing the events that took place after that was something she'd rather not think about. She went through her bag, pulling out a thumb tack and then standing on top of the bed and twisting the thumb tack into the wall. She did this with every hotel she ever went to. She placed the dream catcher onto the tack and removed herself off of the bed and nodding her head with content.
She walked over to the window, her eyes glancing outside to make sure she hadn't been followed. She removed herself from the window and closed the blinds, throwing closed the curtains. She turned on the lamp that was placed in the room and turned on the tiny television that only had three channels. She placed herself on the bed, placing her head in her hands and letting out a soft sigh. She was so tired of running, but she knew that her life was depending on her to escape. And that had had been her life for the past nine years.
She sat there until it became dark and then she stood up, taking the chair and placing it under the doorknob before locking the door and letting out a shaky sigh. She walked into the bathroom, brushing her teeth and then laying down in the bed with her clothes on, just in case she needed to make a run for it. And as she closed her eyes, she did not receive the darkness that she was used to receiving, but instead she was placed in her first nightmare that she hadn't experienced since she was thirteen.
So, I've already introduced some characters into this story, and you have no clue who they are except for Sapphire and possibly Avery! It's a little spoiler of what these future characters are going to go through, but there stories will be uploaded whenever I have room in my schedule to update them!
Also, thank you to the lovely queen glxnnrhees for making the intro gif for me!
