CHAPTER FOUR:
WANDA

BETH WAS CONFUSED AS SHE looked around. She wasn't quite sure what was happening, but she went with it. It didn't seem like a nightmare, so far anyways. She walked down the path, coming across a hallway of doors. She frowned. It was almost as if she was being chosen to pick the dream. There were labels placed over top of the doors, some of which confused Beth greatly, but there was one in particular that caught her eye. It was labeled with a name; Pietro. Beth placed her hand on the knob turning it. She was about to pull the door open when a voice called out to her, stopping her. Beth turned to see a girl about her age with long brown hair, scarlet magic playing at her hands as she cocked her head slightly as she looked at the Beth.

"Who are you?" The woman asked, an accent lacing through her words.

Beth swallowed, moving her hand away from the doorknob as she turned to fully face the woman. "I could ask you the same thing."

"You're in my head." The woman snarled. "You don't get to ask me questions. Who are you?"

"Bethany Dennings."  She answered the woman in response.

"Why are you here? How. . . are you here?" The unknown woman took a step closer to Bethany, her eyes narrowing slightly as she walked closer to Beth. Bethany fiddled with her fingers, her nerves scratching at her skin as the woman came closer and closer to her. Beth didn't remove her eyes from her hands until finally the unknown woman stopped a few feet away from her, making her look up.

"Can I have your name first?" Beth gently asked.

The woman pressed her lips together as she took a minute to think, before nodding her head. "Wanda Maximoff."

"Maximoff?" Beth frowned, knowing that the name seemed familiar to her. She furrowed her eyebrows as she searched for an answer, before she got it. "You're an Avenger. . . right?"

Wanda nodded her head once. "Now, tell me, how you got in my head."

Beth messed with her fingers once more, biting on her lip before answering. "It's a gift I was born with." She places a strand of hair behind her ear, glancing at Wanda who was waiting for her to continue. "I can. . . uh. . . I can walk through other peoples dreams whether it be peaceful or a nightmare. But, uh, there's a catch. If I get hurt in said dream, I actually get hurt."

"Where exactly are you?" Wanda asked her. Beth didn't answer. The woman nodded her head. "You don't have to tell me. I'm a stranger to you after all."

Beth looked at the woman, their eyes meeting for a split second before she decided that she could trust her. She swallowed, her voice shaking slightly as she answered the question. "I'm on the run."

Wanda frowned at this, her head cocking to the side. "From who?"

She fiddled with her fingers once more, Wanda noticing that it was something she did when she was nervous. "It's an organization called HYDRA."  She watched Wanda's eyes widen at her answer. "They've been after me my whole life."

"How long have you been on your own?" Wanda asked, worry and concern filling her eyes as she looked at the stranger.

"Since I was thirteen." Beth answered in a whisper, almost as if she was scared to tell the woman that.

"I'm sorry, Bethany."

Beth shook her head. "Don't be."

"Tell me where you are." Wanda concluded after a minute of thinking. "I can come find you. The avengers can protect you from them."

Beth opened her mouth to responded, only for her to close it again when she heard loud banging noises coming from somewhere. She looked around, panic clearly written on her features. "Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?" Wanda asked.

"That noise." Beth asked. She could feel her heart rate start to spike as she realized who it was. They had found her. She didn't have any time to escape, and they had found her. She swallowed thickly, her eyes landing onto Wanda as a tear slipped down her cheek. "They found me." She whispered.

"Tell me where you are." Wanda quickly ushered out. Beth couldn't answer, and Wanda watched as she started to fade from her head. "Bethany! Bethany, tell me where you are!"

Beth quickly turned her head to look at Wanda, opening her mouth to speak. "I'm-!" But, she was cut off. She faded from Wanda's dream, the woman calling out for her, but to no avail.

Bethany woke up with a sharp gasp, her eyes falling on the door just as it was kicked open. The chair went flying across the room. For some reason, one completely unknown to her, she stood up and grabbed her dreamcatcher instead of trying to make a run for it. A man entered, his eyes trained on Bethany before he smirked. He walked up to her, placing a hand under her chin as he looked into her eyes that were filled with fright.

"Finally," He breathed, before knocking her out.
