CHAPTER FIVE:
CAUGHT

THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. She wasn't supposed to get caught. She thought that she was doing so good. That she was successfully staying away from the HYDRA agent's grasp. But, she was wrong. And now, regret was rolling over her body as she continued to look at the darkness that was placed over her head.

Her mind thought back to the pretty woman she had seen in her dreams. Well, rather, the woman's dreams that she had invaded. She wondered who Pietro was. She had a feeling he was her brother, or something along the lines of that. She knew of the Maximoff name, mostly, but she didn't know what it was that Wanda had went through, and how it was she had gained a spot with the avengers.

When the darkness was taken from her, she was placed in a room. One she didn't recognize, but could feel the screams of other subjects vibrating from the walls. She looked at the blinding white room. Her heart pounded the more she looked at the bland color. Her throat was dry, a feeling of wanting to cry coming over her. She slid down the white wall, bring her knees up to her chest as she embraced the fear that she felt developing within her. She was going to die in here, and there was no way around it.

She knew what happened to people that wound up in a place like this. They lost a part of themselves that they would never gain back. Something that was permanently ripped from their soul. Sometimes, a person was so damaged from the torture that they were put through, that they never went back to a form of a person that they used to be. Beth didn't want that to happen to her. She couldn't lose herself in this place. She wouldn't let HYDRA take her from the world like they did for her mother.

She felt the tears fill her eyes, but she clenched her jaw. She refused to cry. She couldn't show them how terrified she truly was. She knew what they could do to her. She knew that they would find a way to somehow amplify her power, and she didn't want that. Her power was so simple, and something that she so desperately wanted to get rid of. But, she knew that if the right tweaks were placed on it, that it could be potentially life threatening. And she didn't want that. Beth believed that she was a nice person. Yes, she was closed off, but she was still a nice person about it. And now that she was in HYDRA's grasp, all of the was going to change. And she didn't know how to cope with that.

Wanda sat there, staring out of the window of the Avengers facility as she thought about what it was that had happened the night prior. She was still trying to wrap her head around what exactly it was that had happened. A girl, Bethany Dennings, had crept into her mind. Something that she herself had never witnessed before. She was able to get into other peoples heads using her chaos magic, but she had never had someone enter her own head.

She didn't notice when Avery Barton had made her way towards the woman, Peter by her side. She glanced at him for a moment, silently telling him that she would find him later before watching as he walked away. Avery walked towards Wanda, placing her hands in her back pockets.

"Wanda, are you alright?"

Wanda turned her head to look at the teenager, giving her an unsure smile before nodding her head. "Yeah, I'm alright." Avery took a stand beside of Wanda, looking out the window as well, watching from below as Steve and his girlfriend helped train some of the other soldiers.

"What's on your mind?" Avery nudged the girl slightly, tearing her eyes away from the trainers to look at the younger woman. Wanda softly sighed.

"Last night, something weird happened," Wanda started. "There was woman inside my head. And we were talking and all of sudden, she said they were here. And I think. . . I think something bad happened to her."

"How was she in your head?" Avery asked, a concerned frown on her face.

"She said that she was born with the gift that allowed her to travel through other people's dreams."

Avery's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Really?" She nodded her head in response. "Well, does this dream walker have a name?"

"She said her name was Bethany Dennings," Wanda answered. "I've tried to find information on her, but the only thing that shows up is when she was a teenager. After that, there's nothing on her."

Avery pursed her lips, glancing at the woman before giving the small nod of her head. "I have a friend that's good with hacking and technology. I can get her to find something on her."

"I couldn't ask that of you-"

"Nonsense." Avery smiled. "I'm sure she would love to help. She adores you, anyways."

Wanda gave her a small smile. "Thank you, Avery."

"It's what I'm here for." Avery smiled before turning on her heel and walking away. A small sigh fell from Wanda's lips. She hoped the woman was alright. If something bad had happened to her, Wanda would feel guilty for not being able to do anything.
