Chapter Ten

It had been several days since the fierce battle. The troopers who had threatened your life were gone—some dead, others fled. You knew you would be leaving soon enough. For now, you sat atop a crate, surveying the aftermath.

You spotted Hunter approaching, accompanied by Wrecker and Omega. "Hey, are you ready?" Hunter asked, hopping up to stand beside you. You smiled and wrapped your tail around his waist, causing him to blush a bit. You couldn't resist smirking in response.

Scooping Omega into your arms, you nodded. "I'm ready." With your companions at your side, you prepared to embark on your next journey, leaving the remnants of the battle behind.

As you made your way towards the ship, a sudden blaster bolt whizzed through the air, searing through your wing. A shrill cry escaped your maw as you crumpled to the ground, the stairs breaking your fall. "Amethyst!" your friends shouted in alarm, but you were already lost in a haze of agony.

Before you could comprehend what was happening, a tall man emerged, grabbing you by the tail and dragging you into a nearby ship. The darkness engulfed you, leaving you helpless in the hands of your captor. You struggled to stay conscious, but the pain from your wing was overwhelming, and you succumbed to the encroaching blackness.

◤◢◣◥◤◢◣◥◤◢◣◥When you regained consciousness, you found yourself enclosed in a cage, its bars shimmering with a ray shield. The realization that your legs and wings were restrained sent a wave of panic through you. You let out a hiss, on the verge of unleashing a full-blown roar, when a small hovering droid appeared in your line of sight. Its metallic surface gleamed under the artificial light, and it emanated a surprisingly soothing aura.

"There's no need for such an uproar, creature," the droid said, its voice surprisingly gentle and modulated. It bowed its head slightly, a programmed gesture to convey non-aggression. "I'm not here to harm you. I'm here to..." it continued, leaving you hanging onto its every word, curiosity momentarily overriding your initial fear and anger.

You blinked at the droid, your initial aggression subsiding, replaced by a wary curiosity. "What's your name?" you finally managed to grunt out, your voice gruff from disuse and the earlier hiss.

"Todo," the droid replied, landing gracefully before you. It then proceeded to tinker with its left foot, which appeared to be damaged. You watched with interest, blinking in surprise when you realized that the foot was barely hanging on.

"Did any of my men do that?" you asked, a hint of concern lacing your voice. The droid huffed, a sound surprisingly human-like, and replied, "Yes, those reckless monsters." Its tone was disapproving, but there was a hint of relief in its voice, suggesting it was grateful the damage wasn't worse.

You sighed, "I'm sorry," you said, feeling a pang of guilt for the droid's damage. But the droid shook its head, dismissing your apology. "No need. It happens when you take someone from them. After all, you're valuable to them, it seems," it said, its tone matter-of-fact.

You looked away, your gaze falling to your bound talons. Then, you shifted your attention to your wings, where the smoldering hole left by the blaster shot would have been visible if not for the bacta patch covering it. The patch was a stark reminder of the pain you had endured.

Todo continued, "My master offers his apologies for hurting you, but you wouldn't have gone down otherwise." The droid looked at you, blinking its mechanical eyes in a way that seemed almost sympathetic.

Footsteps sounded, and a gruff voice called out, "Don't apologize on my behalf, Todo. You know I don't like it when you do that." You looked up, and your gaze met that of the notorious bounty hunter, Cad Bane. You had heard about him and seen him once or twice when you were working with the Jedi.

"Ah, Master Blaze," Bane said, sitting down to stare into your eyes. His voice was as cold and hard as durasteel. "I thought you were familiar when I saw you." His tone held a hint of respect, but it was laced with an undercurrent of danger. "Sorry about the shackles," he continued, "but you, here, are a dangerous girl." His words were not an accusation but a statement of fact, a testament to your reputation.

"When people threaten the ones I care about, even loveable dragons tend to become dangerous," you said, leaning back as comfortably as you could with your bound wings and hands. Your voice held a note of defiance, despite your current predicament.

Bane sighed and stood up, his expression inscrutable. "That, I cannot tell you, sweetheart," he said, his voice betraying no emotion. "Let's just say that the Empire wouldn't have wanted you if you hadn't been important to them, much rather to a certain Emperor." His words hung in the air, a veiled threat that sent a chill down your spine.

With that, he turned and walked up the ramp, leaving you alone with Todo. The droid looked at you, its mechanical eyes blinking in a rhythm that seemed almost comforting. The silence was deafening, but you knew better than to break it. You were in the hands of the enemy now, and every word could be a potential weapon.

Todo nodded at you, its mechanical head tilting slightly to the side. "I better go and start up the ship again. We've been taking a pause, that's all," it said, its voice soft and modulated. The droid then turned and moved towards the exit, its movements jerky and not as graceful as they should have been due to its damaged foot.

Then, it was gone, and you were left alone in the dark hull of the ship. The silence was broken only by the occasional hum of the ship's engines and the distant sound of footsteps. You were left to your thoughts, the darkness a stark reminder of your current situation. But you were not one to give in to despair. You would find a way out, just as you always had. After all, you were Master Blaze, a dragon Jedi, and you would not go down without a fight.
