"Vance, do you not own a swim suit?" Sarah asked in disbelief as she was in the process of using the net to get all the leafs out of the pool. She'd gone shopping yesterday to get a pretty bathing suit after her and Vance planned to finally put her pool to use with her parents both being gone. Apart of her expected him to do the same instead of showing up in very terrible cut off jeans.
"What's wrong with em?" he looked down at his legs with an offended look.
"Nothing." Sarah chuckled under her breath as she chunked the net some to get the leafs out. "Go get Bingo for me."
"Where's he at?" he walked toward the back door. "Bingo!"
Sarah grinned at their very small interaction as Bingo came running from the house, barking as he ran circles around the pool. "What the hell is he doing?"
"This is his thing when he gets excited." Sarah said as Bingo continued to run. "He's insane."
"What do you give that dog?" Vance asked in disbelief as he laid across the chair and took Sarah's sunglasses off the table. "I hate the summer."
"You hate the summer?" she dropped the net. "The summers gonna hate you too. Come here."
"No." Vance shook his head as she grabbed the sunscreen. "No!"
"Yes! Do you wanna get cancer?" she asked him in disbelief. "Come here."
"You can't get cancer from the sun." he rolled his eyes, moving his legs as Sarah sat infront of him.
"You can. You'll get a raised bump from a sunspot and it'll turn into cancer." she gave a look, rubbing it across his face as he cringed. "True fact."
He rolled his eyes as she leaned in more to get his neck and shoulders. "Did you invite anyone else?"
"No." Sarah hummed. "Turn."
He stood up before sitting back down with his back to her. "Why not?"
"I don't know. I wanted us to spend time together." Sarah shrugged as she put more on her hands. "Do you want me to invite more people?"
"No." he said in return. "Your cracked out dog is enough."
Sarah gave a snort. "He likes the pool."
She stood up with a click to the bottle. "Vance?"
"What?" he looked up at her from where he was sitting.
"Do people ask you if we're dating?" she shut one eye from the bright sun.
"Yeah." he shrugged. "Why?"
"Well, what do you tell them?" she still wasn't sure if they were gonna label it or not, he was not the type to talk about it at all.
"I just say you're my Sheeps." he stood up too. "What do you say?"
"I just shrug. I don't have a name for you." she walked back toward the pool as Bingo finally started to calm down, letting her get the final leafs from the pool. "I guess I could say you're my boyfriend."
"Guess so." she was glad her back was turned to him, because a huge grin went across her face.
"When s-" she began, turning around just for Vance to give her a harsh shove. Sarah fell into the pool, taking the net with her. Water went in her nose at the unexpected push, swimming up to see Vance grinned at her. "You're my worst nightmare."
"I know." he grinned, sitting down to put his feet in the pool.
"You're not gonna get in with me?" she kicked her legs and gave a faint splash.
"Nu-uh." he shook his head. "My hair is more important then yours."
"Rude!" she remarked with a scoff, swimming over to rest her head on one of his legs. Vance rubbed her head from how she laid, like she was so tired from the few seconds of kicking. "What do you wanna do for your birthday?"
"Nothing." he moved his leg some to see if she'd slip. She did, scaring herself as Vance gave a faint chuckle, pulling her arms again so she'd have the ability to rest her head back onto his leg. "It's still not for another two months."
"Yeah, but two months will come fast." she remarked knowingly. "You really don't wanna do anything? Sixteen is such a fun age to turn, I hear."
"We'll already be back in school, nothings gonna be fun." he rolled his eyes, seeing how hard he could twist a piece of her hair around his finger before it would turn purple. "Sheeps."
"Hum?" maybe she was tired, she seemed really tired.
"What are we gonna do for school?" he seems like it was horrible to ask that question. "Should I tell people you're still my Sheeps?"
Sarah looked up in disbelief. "Do I expire at the end of summer, or something?"
He had to laugh at her face rather then her words. "Okay. Cool."
"Cool." she laid her head back down. "You don't even wanna go to the Drive-In?"
"Last time we went to the Drive-In, you talked about the bad acting and shaky cameras the entire time." Vance remarked, looking over as Bingo laid down next to him. Sarah came to the conclusion he liked being able to sense another guy. Billy and Vance were close in height, even though they didn't look much alike at all. Maybe it made Bingo feel close to him when Vance was around.
"True." Sarah inhaled. "Guess what happened?"
"What?" Vance moved his leg again when it started to go asleep, making her slip again so she'd move to rest on the other.
"My Dad thinks they have a lead on Billys case." she hummed, now it made sense why she'd been so tired. "I heard him last night. They're gonna look a town over where a few kids were found a few years ago after getting lost from home."
Vance wasn't entire sure what to say. Sarah picked her head up. "Maybe Gwen was wrong. Maybe he's still alive and stuck there."
Now he really didn't know what to say. He'd thought she'd been doing pretty good on the whole 'accepting Billy was dead' thing after the night she nearly got hit by that car. But, a little spark of hope went a long was with her. It's something he loved and hated about her. "What about the car thing?"
"Well, I could have imagined it. I mean, I know Gwen does her little thing and she was right about me, but that doesn't mean she was necessarily right about Billy. Coincidences do happen, I could have just been not sleeping well and imagining seeing him. And the push." Sarah ranted on, like she was trying to validate her hope and get Vance to agree with her. "I'm not saying that's what happened. Just a maybe."
"Okay. A maybe." he nodded, pushing her off his leg so he could, shockingly gracefully, slide into the pool with her. Sarah didn't give him much time to get use to the cold before wrapping her arms and legs around him. He held onto the side of the pool for a little bit of support, not an amazing swimmer and couldn't reach the bottom either. "Do you wanna stay at my house tonight, Sheeps?"
"Really?" she pulled back to look at him.
"Yeah, you're not any fun when you're tired. Just, way less annoying." Vance exhaled as he gave her a mean look when Sarah smiled. "Stop looking at me."
"Got it." she smiled, leaning in and kissing him on the lips as her hands stayed planted on his face. He kissed her back, both so obsessed with kissing the other that they didn't hear the door open.
"Hate to break up the moment." Jason's voice made them both yank away and look his way, resembling a deer in headlights. "Sarah, I need to talk to you."
"Did you find something?" she was frozen, staring his way. He had no clue she'd known. "The town over. Did you find something?"
"Yeah." Sarah's heart sunk. "We found a body."
She was still in Vance's arms, he looked at her in worry as she stared at her father like a statue. "Is it Billy?"
"We don't know." he exhaled, he'd been crying. They both noticed when the sun hit him just right. Billy wasn't just close to Sarah, he was close to her entire family. Jason and Ella both loved him, and the sudden new lead gave them just as much hope as it did Sarah. "It's not....it's just bones, so we're getting the dental records pulled."
It was suppose to feel better that maybe it was his body, that maybe he could be put to rest. But, it didn't. It just didn't.
