(✿) PERSONALITY — Due to her age and growing up with her overprotective parents, Iseul has had to take care of herself and keep others and her parents in check. She's very mature and acts well over her age, and is definitely an old soul in that sense. She's extremely independent and responsible, and has a good head on her shoulders. She knows many practical skills and always thinks logically; she isn't easily swayed by emotions and is very sensible. She's also very dependable, always willing to give a helping hand to others. People comparing Iseul to a 'mother hen' isn't that far from the truth, actually. Iseul is extremely loyal of those she cares about, and is rather protective. She can be overprotective at times, but──much like her parents──always claims that she's only looking out for the ones she loves. She likes to know what her friends are up to and what they're doing; being informed in their lives makes her feel better and at ease, as she doesn't have to worry about them too much that way. She's a bit of a worrywart, always terrified that her loved ones will be getting themselves into trouble, which is a big reason for all of her protective tendencies. However, Iseul really just means the best and wants all of her friends to stay safe.

Iseul is extremely hard-working and dedicated to her craft. Even if she's not excited or passionate about a subject, she'll put 110% into whatever she's doing──her personal motto is 'if I'm going to participate, I'm going to participate all the way' and she brings this mantra into everything she does. She never falls short, even when she's exhausted, and can be prone to overworking herself due to this. At heart, Iseul is rather introverted. She's quiet, and mostly keeps to herself; she doesn't have many friends aside from her group members, and her hobbies tend to be very indoorsy and solo activities, such as reading or painting. She has nothing against other people and is always open to making other friends──she has a bit of a reputation for comforting and helping out rookies backstage and supporting others when they seem nervous, are lost, etc──she's just naturally more quiet, especially due to not having many friends growing up.

Due to this, and her selfless nature, however, Iseul can be rather stoic. She doesn't like to expose her feelings to others, especially negative ones, as she doesn't want to stress her loved ones' out or have them worry about her. She's supposed to be the leader and the one everyone can depend on, so she hates it when she's vulnerable in front of others. This can cause her to seem rather expressionless, emotionless, and dispassionate, though those who truly know her typically suspect that she's hiding her deeper feelings from them.

Iseul can also be very distrusting of others. She's incredibly loyal to those she loves, and tends to lash out at any sign of danger. She doesn't trust anyone until she's fully gotten to know them; she always has to decide for herself whether they're 'good enough' or 'trustworthy enough' to keep around, and she's extremely paranoid of ulterior motives. Her group members tease her for this, but Iseul claims that it's just a side effect of her A blood type, due to the Korean belief that people with the blood type A are paranoid and worrywarts.

Finally, despite her introvert nature, Iseul is very assertive. She's confident and forceful──she doesn't take shit from anyone, and has been around for far too long to be pushed around by others. She's very decisive and trusts herself above all others, which can make her seem a bit domineering or arrogant, but really, she doesn't like being pushed around. This is one of the traits that aids her in being a great leader. In general, Iseul is extremely protective and caring; she loves deeply, and wishes for safety and happiness for all of her loved ones. Although she has many faults, she tries her best, and genuinely just wants everyone to thrive and live their best.

(✿) BACKGROUND — Iseul was born to two loving parents in the heart of Seoul. Kwon Eunhyuk and Min Seulgi weren't extraordinarily well-off or anything, but they had Iseul late, and by then had garnered a comfortable sum of money to be able to give their daughter whatever she wanted. Iseul was an only child, which only inflated her parents' doting nature; as she was the only object of their affection, she grew up with many stiff rules as a child. Her parents were extremely overprotective, always worried about Iseul's health and happiness, which, although appreciated, made Iseul extremely embarassed as a child. She felt suffocated under her parents' love, and although they were extremely close, there was an air of disconnect between them. Iseul could comfortably talk to them about pretty much anything, except then their parental instinct would kick in and they'd hoard her with questions about her crushes and her school life.

All this ended up with Iseul feeling distanced from her parents. She loved them, sure, but she wished she had someone her age she could count on──she didn't have many friends, as her parents were so protective that she had an early curfew and wasn't allowed much freedom. Iseul spent most of her time engaging with various forms of media, especially reading books and watching movies and TV shows. Having fictional characters as friends made her feel marginally less lonely; her favorite tropes always wound up being found family and platonic relationship dynamics. And then it clicked for her──what Iseul needed were siblings.

She begged her parents for siblings, wanting badly to have someone she could play with and rely on. But she was already eleven by this point, and the age gap would be too large──and besides, her parents weren't interested in having another child anyway, and weren't sure if they even could conceive. Iseul finally gave it up, although she always dreamt about having siblings──especially an older sister, someone who could care for her and teach her how to go through life and all the secrets a girl would need. But that was a possibility that would never happen, so Iseul returned to her books and movies to live vicariously through those.

Iseul was thirteen when she discovered K-Pop. She'd never been that into music; sure, she liked listening to some songs while reading or studying, but she never really made it a true hobby of hers, and didn't know many artists besides the super popular ones. However, she ended up learning about BoA and SNSD through her classmates, and eventually developed an interest. She especially liked the more vocal-focused groups and songs, and found herself spending time casually watching stages and listening to K-Pop throughout her daily schedule. For Iseul, it was never an obsession; just a mere interest.

Iseul started strengthening her skill in music and performing arts in an attempt to find friends. Noraebangs were all the rage in her youth, and so she joined many of her peers at after-parties after school games at them. She was always kind of lonely, so she attended these for the sole purpose of making friends. She knew quite a lot of the popular songs people were singing, especially if they were by the artists she liked, and so she sang a few of them.

Safe to say, Iseul's method worked. She had a wonderful voice, although untrained, and instantly everyone wanted to be her friend──her classmates would crowd around her, urging her to audition to be a trainee or try pursuing a career as an idol. Iseul loved the attention, and she started to consider the career path that everyone was offering to her. She genuinely loved singing, and started having an interest in songwriting too, humming random melodies in her head or thinking of lyrics while in the shower. But she knew her parents──overprotective and doting as they were──would never stand for it.

The more she wasn't allowed to do something, the more she wanted to do it. Although it started out as just a vague interest, when Iseul brought the subject up to her parents and was instantly rejected, her desire to become an idol increased tenfold. Maybe it was to spite her parents──who really knows? The point is, Iseul became determined to get her parents' approval. She went to noraebangs all the time and tried to convince her parents with her voice. She spent all her free time writing song lyrics in the margins of her homework. She blasted idol music in the house when she was reading, or studying, or cooking, or──well, doing anything. It drove her parents crazy.

Finally, push came to shove. Iseul's parents didn't budge on their perspective, claiming the idol lifestyle was too dangerous and untrustworthy, that Iseul would be preyed upon by others. So she auditioned behind their backs, going from company to company after school to show off her skills before returning home and telling her parents she was out with friends instead of what she was really doing. And eventually it happened──when Iseul was eighteen, she got an acceptance from Yuehua Entertainment.

Iseul broke the news to her parents, who were horrified. After a long argument, Iseul finally told her parents that she was almost a legal adult now, and she could take care of herself. She really wanted to believe that they had enough trust and faith in her that they'd let her pursue the career she wanted. And finally, Eunhyuk and Seulgi agreed, allowing Iseul to join the company as a trainee. They had her work part-time as a waitress during her trainee period, but Iseul was satisfied.

Iseul was definitely an older trainee, and when she entered Yuehua, she was amazed to see all the young girls around her. They were so small and innocent──and Iseul swore that she'd be the big sister she never had to them. She knew how terrible the industry could be; she wasn't stupid; and someone needed to protect the trainees from the executives and companies that would surely prey on them. Okay, so maybe she had gotten a few of her parents' traits and was a bit overprotective──but she really just wanted to protect the younger girls. Even as a trainee, Iseul quickly became the unofficial 'leader'; she was the one you'd go to in the middle of the night if your period cramps were hurting or if you were too exhausted from training; the girl you'd go to if you missed your parents or wanted a shoulder to cry on; the girl who'd convince you not to be pressured into getting plastic surgery just because the staff were insisting a better nose would heighten your chances at debut.

And so it was really no surprise that when the ANGEL'S CODE debut lineup was announced, everyone knew that Iseul would be the leader. She was older than all of the other trainees, and took care of them like she was their mother. A lot of the younger trainees even considered her more like their mom than their actual parents. And Iseul couldn't see herself in any other position. She'd been that girl who'd wished for a big sister when she was little, and although she'd never been able to satisfy those desires, she was beyond happy to meet them for other girls who needed the help.

★%. HUMMING — iseul is always humming or singing; she says there's always a song going around in her head, plus she often thinks of random songs as she has a great interest in songwriting.

★%. TAPPING — iseul has a habit of tapping on things, such as an asmr-ist does. she does this to find a rhythm for her heartbeat and to calm herself down, especially since she can be a bit of a worrywart.
