He doesn't like that he's away from camp, again. But after Raven told him that Clarke knew a place where they could get a transmitter for the broken radio, he decided to step away from camp once again.

ย  ย  ย  It only took a few minutes for him to realize that the group is walking towards the same place that Clarke, Finn, and himself hid Charlotte from Murphy only a few days ago. He remembers the amount of tools and parts he found that could help them create things for the campย โ€” different types of tools, some screws, bolts, and more. He had pushed it to the back of his mind after Charlotte ran off, and then forgot to remind Clarke about it when Raven essentially crash-landed on Earth.

ย  ย  ย  He feels like they've been walking forever, but he's not upset about it. He's not going to complain that Raven's still taking in everything around herย โ€” there's no reason to. He might be all anti-Earth, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to be, and he's very much aware of the fact.ย

ย  ย  ย  Raven stops a few feet in front of him, admiring a red flower attached to a bush. A giddy smile is on her face, unlike the stern expression she tends to have everywhere else. Unlike Clarke, who's been in a rush to get to the bunker they had found without any distractions, Sam wants to be lenient. But he gets why Clarke might want to go back as soon as possibleย โ€” the camp is currently being left in the hands of everyone's own free will, nobody there to manage what happens.

ย  ย  ย  "They're beautiful" Raven points out as she continues to admire the flowers. He never thought that someone like Raven, who's been hard-headed since day one, would be so entranced by a few flowers on a bush, but it's better than her being someone who would destroy the flora and fauna around them.ย

ย  ย  ย  Clarke has lost her patience, showing signs that she doesn't want to be outside of the wall any longer. "Raven, I know you just got here yesterday, but we don't have time for this. Come on" She stresses, turning back to speak to her and almost immediately continuing her trek through the woods.

ย  ย  ย  "Hurry up and save the world. You're just like your mom" She says, picking a flower from the bush and jogging after the girl who's walking away. Sam follows, staying behind Raven but not too far behind, quickly scanning the trees once more as he did earlier, checking to make sure that they truly are alone, just the group of three.

ย  ย  ย  He hears Clarke shoot back that she's nothing like her mom, and Sam doesn't know if that's true. He's only met the Griffin woman twice before, only for small injuries, but from what he knows they're at least somewhat similar. Clarke may not enjoy the idea of it, but she shares some traits with her mom.

ย  ย  ย  "Relax. That's a compliment. Abby's a badass" Raven adds, a smile on her face as she talks. It seems like Raven thinks highly of the woman, always ready to explain the woman's 'greatness' to anyone who asks. He doesn't know the extent of their relationship, but it seems positive.

ย  ย  ย  "All the times I've talked to her, she seems pretty awesome. I don't know if I could ever handle having that many patients" Sam interjects, trying to boost Clarke's mood as they continue through the forest. He figures that they should be getting close to the bunker now, after what seems like hours upon hours of walking through the woods.ย

ย  ย  ย  "The pod was her idea, too. It broke her heart not being able to come down with me, but she never stopped believing you were alive" Raven continues on, but nothing they say seems to be swaying Clarke to at least have a less stern mood coursing through her veins and radiating off of her.

ย  ย  ย  "Yeah. Mother of the year".

ย  ย  ย  The sarcasm in the girl's voice is evident, but Sam doesn't want to press on it. She seems more annoyed now, like nothing they say is aiding her mood and just making her want to go back to camp even more than she already wanted to. He doesn't think that was Raven's intention, just trying to make basic conversation with someone that seems to have grown on her.ย

ย  ย  ย  He hopes they're getting close to the bunker, his patience slowly starting to wear off since he just wants to find the transmitter, and maybe pick up some of the other supplies that he left there after Charlotte ran off.

ย  ย  ย  "Well, my mom was awol most of my life. When she did show up, it was empty-handed. Pretty sure she had me just to trade in my rations for moonshine" Raven explains, keeping the conversation going. Clarke turns their path, and within a couple of seconds, he sees her crouching down at the bunker entrance, after they had been walking for what seems like forever.

ย  ย  ย  "How'd you survive?".

ย  ย  ย  "Boy next door. Finn. He shared his rations. Remembered my birthday. Saved my life. He's my family" The brunette says, highlighting how much Finn means to her. Sam never knew this story beforeย โ€” never once hearing about Raven's mom, only hearing small comments about the girl's home life, but never anything too detailed. He finds it funny how similar this story seems to how he kept surviving on the Ark, Makayla always sharing her rations and giving him any sort of supplies she had to tide him over.

ย  ย  ย  That stopped when she got arrested, but he managed. And then he got arrested, which he's gotten over at this point, but it still baffles him how quick the guards were to blame him for stealing rations, even though he was just walking and minding his business. But now he's here, living in a tent with his best friend and searching for any spare mechanical parts that could be scattered in a bunch of hidden bunkers on Earth. Maybe fate did that, just so he could be experiencing this.

ย  ย  ย  And with that, Clarke opens the hatch, and they begin their descent into the bunker.

ย  ย  ย  ๐–๐‡๐„๐ ๐๐”๐ˆ๐๐ ๐†๐Ž๐“ ๐€๐‘๐‘๐„๐’๐“๐„๐ƒ, she was sent to a cell that was meant to be shared, but she didn't have a cellmate. It was almost as if she was in solidarity, which was obviously not the case since she hadn't committed such a major crime, but it still felt like fate was laughing in her face, dooming her to rot in a cell all alone until her eighteenth birthday.

ย  ย  ย  She would spend hours staring at the wall, playing with her hair, or reading the same book she had convinced a guard to get her so she wouldn't be completely bored. It was the same routine almost every day, waking up, going to meal times, reading the same book, and going to sleep. Nothing ever changed, no variables ever came in to change how her routine went.

ย  ย  ย  And then Octavia came.

ย  ย  ย  She was quick to banter with the girl, finding the presence of someone new enjoyable. She never had friends, always being cast to the side when she thought she did. She never thought she would become friends with Octavia, but the hours they ended up spending together because they were stuck in the same cell, sharing the same four walls, had turned them into what Quinn thought was close friends.

ย  ย  ย  When they came down to Earth, she didn't realize how much their relationship would change. She held conversations with Octavia about the excitement of their new home, got bitten by a mysterious water snake, started making the camp's weapons, and only really saw Octavia when it was time to get a little bit of rest for the night, since nobody ever got a ton.

ย  ย  ย  She never even realized this at first. The events of Earth and witnessing change happens all around her had taken up her time, she hadn't even realized that she wasn't spending that much time with Octavia. It wasn't her intention to let that happen, but it just did. And she thinks that if people were to ask her why, she wouldn't have a proper answer for her.ย

ย  ย  ย  So when Octavia was reported missing to her, she felt like the worst person ever. She still does, while they're rushing through the woods in a desperate attempt to locate her, but not moving too fast to the point that they would miss important details showcasing that she had been there, or was being held there. Or maybe they would find her alone and isolated, wandering through the woods in an attempt to locate the campgrounds.

ย  ย  ย  She recalls the fact that the search party is in uncharted territoryย โ€” an area they haven't explored, guarded by what seemed like hundreds of old or new skeletons. The skeletons hung from the trees, spears and torches being scattered throughout the area as well. Her emotions could probably be sensed from a mile away, but she tried not to let that sway her. Bellamy told them that they could go back to camp if they had wanted to, if they absolutely didn't want to explore what seems like a dangerous area. She wanted to, she really did, but she wanted to find Octavia as well.

ย  ย  ย  So here she is, walking through the unknown, not knowing what could be around a corner. Not knowing if there's something meant to kill them lurking behind a tree, ready to pounce at the first instance that the group can be caught off guard. Her eyes are almost glued on the trees, walking in the middle of the group beside Jasper. Everyone's silentย โ€” eyes glued to their surroundings, watching and scanning for possibilities.

ย  ย  ย  "I got nothing. We lost the trail" She hears Finn say, her mind finally prying her eyes from the trees. She almost lets out a sigh, her legs threatening to give out right there because of how exhausted she feels. The search has been tiring, and hearing that they have absolutely no trail, no idea where they should be going while they're wandering through uncharted territory isn't helping.

ย  ย  ย  "Keep looking".

ย  ย  ย  "Wandering around aimlessly isn't the way to find your sister. We should backtrack โ€”" Finn tries to argue, and she feels like there's some sort of sincerity in his voice. He wants to help, all of them do, but with no trail, they have no leads.

ย  ย  ย  "I'm not going back!" Bellamy snaps, not loud enough to draw the attention of everyone in the group but just loud enough for Quinn to register. She understandsย โ€” she doesn't want to go back either, but they have absolutely no leads.ย

ย  ย  ย  There's a few seconds where everyone's silentย โ€” Quinn keeping her eyes on the two boys at the front of the group. There's a silent conversation going on between the two, and she can't pick up on what they're discussing, even though it's not her business. But she feels like she hasn't slept in days, and her head is pounding, and her legs hurt. Nothing about this rescue mission is going well.

ย  ย  ย  And just to her luck, it gets even worse.

ย  ย  ย  "Hey, where's John?" Roma questions from behind her, and she immediately turns her focus to the girl. John's no longer standing behind her, not holding the same axe he's been holding this entire time, the same concerned but stern demeanor he's carried. His presence is gone, as if he disappeared out of thin air.

ย  ย  ย  "I just saw him a second ago" Jasper says, weariness in his voice. She just saw him a second ago, too. They would have heard him if he decided to bail, nobody's footsteps being silent. There would've been a snap of a twig, a rustle in the greenery around them that would've signified that he was leavingย โ€” so where did he go?

ย  ย  ย  Bellamy commands them to spread out and look, and Quinn does just that. Her concern only begins to increase, as she begins to go in the opposite direction of where they had been walkingย โ€” if he decided to bail he would've retraced their steps, and it's not like he hasn't had the time to scan their trail to know where to go if he were to turn back.

ย  ย  ย  There's a noise behind her, almost as if it's a thump, that turns her attention back to where she just was. Her eyes can't find it first, but the horrified expression she sees on almost every member of the group's faces tells her that they didn't see something they wanted to seeย โ€” and then she finally sees it.

ย  ย  ย  Laying carelessly in the grass, John Mbege's body is frozen solid. Sticky, red blood is covering his neck, all coming from a wound that's presumably from a knifeย โ€” his throat was slit. His eyes are wide openย โ€” fear and confusion and desperation being shown all in his frozen expression, everyone seeing exactly how he felt in his last moments of his life.ย

ย  ย  ย  The group rushes towards his bodyย โ€” concern in everyone's features. She sees the blood pouring out of his wound, staining his clothes and the soil and the grass a crimson red. She knows that the boy never thought he would end up like this, one of the many lives that the Grounders have taken away from the delinquents. She feels bad, biting her lip out of anxiety before she remembers once more to glance back up at the trees.

ย  ย  ย  She sees nothing up there, not a single suspicious-looking shadow lurking up behind branches and leaves. Finn announces to the group that the Grounders use the trees, which is something that she's known for what seems like forever, since the days on Earth seem to increasingly get slower as every day goes on.

ย  ย  ย  It dawns on her that if she had told the group this information, instead of staying quiet and scanning without a word coming out of her mouth, maybe John wouldn't be dead. Maybe he would've been observant too, maybe people could have warned him, maybe his life would've been spared and whatever Grounder killed him in secret would be dead.

ย  ย  ย  She's wrapped up in her thoughts to the point that she doesn't even realize that Jasper's grabbed her hand, and is pulling her alongside him throughout the forest. It only dawns on her once she sees Grounders appearing in every corner of the forest, masked in their clever disguises to blend in with their surroundings and holding large weapons that could kill any of them in an instant.ย

ย  ย  ย  She doesn't want to die. She feels like she owes people apologies, for acting rude or abrasive or any other emotion that would've made them not like her. She wants to apologize to Octavia for not being the greatest friend these past few days, she wants to hear another one of Makayla's stories about how she dreamed Earth would be, and she wants to sit around the campfire at camp and look at the stars. Stuff she never thought she would appreciate, wanting to bask in other people's company, are things she craves as death is in every corner she can run to, and it doesn't seem like there's any escaping it.

It'll feel like they found lost treasure, or gold, or something so amazing that could change their lives forever. He's disappointed that they're stuck in this type of situation, being so desperate for a transmitter of all things. But that seems to be the delinquents' lifeline at the moment, nothing else being there as a safety net for them. If they can't make the radio work, the remaining teens in the hundred are completely and utterly fucked.ย

ย  ย  ย  "Let's try this one" Clarke states as she hauls another container of assorted items onto the metal table. They've had a process going for the past few minutesย โ€” Sam and Clarke dig through bins, Raven scans the room for more. Sometimes they switch roles, but it's pretty constant and it's a working system.ย

ย  ย  ย  Raven's shining a light along the walls, admiring the underground building they're in. Flashlight in hand, she's been scanning the room for the past few minutes, smile on her face. "How did you find this place?".

ย  ย  ย  "I didn't. Finn found it" The blonde explains as they dig through the endless containers of items. Sam hasn't found anything usefulย โ€” only finding pieces of bedding that would help for more comfort back at the camp, some random batteries, and a few cans of food that definitely have gone bad. He's quick to take them out, casting them off to the side as he continues digging.

ย  ย  ย  There's some rustling from Clarke as she digs through her bin before she pulls out something clunky. Sam looks up, not being used to that type of noise coming from the binsย โ€” most of the items in the bin being anything but clunky pieces of plasticย โ€” and sees Clarke holding a yellow toy car up in her hands, scanning it over.

ย  ย  ย  "Will this work?".

ย  ย  ย  Before Sam can even answer, Raven's at his side and has taken the toy car in her hands. Scanning it over, an almost excited smile on her face, she announces that it's an RFย โ€” she means radio frequency, but the look on Clarke's face shows that she's completely and utterly clueless to what Raven's saying.ย

ย  ย  ย  "She means radio frequency. Someone keeps forgetting that not everyone knows every abbreviation in the book that has to do with mechanics" Sam shrugs before turning his head back down to his container, finding the remainder of the cloths and pulling them out of the bin so he can have a better look at what's at the bottom.

ย  ย  ย  It's not a hard abbreviation to figure out, but he figured that Clarke wouldn't want to look dumbย โ€” especially in front of two mechanics.

ย  ย  ย  "Shut up, Sam" The brunette says in retaliation, and Sam can hear her playing around with the car in her hands. He shrugs her words off before looking up from his container and moving the cloths and bedsheets to the ever-growing pile of random supplies that's sitting on the couch.ย

ย  ย  ย  "But, anyways, if I could just find the controller, we'll be golden" Raven continues, making her way across the room to locate the remote controller that goes along with the toy car. He watches as she makes her way over to a table, some of the items by it are carelessly tossed on the floor, and crouches down to scan something.

ย  ย  ย  "Finn made this".

ย  ย  ย  He's confused, but goes along with it because from the stories he's heard about Finn from Raven, he's always been making stuff for her. He's not surprised that she's easily able to recognize when her boyfriend has made something, a small object or big item.ย

ย  ย  ย  He continues throughout the room, finding another container cast aside to the corner, and brings it over to the small coffee table by the couch. Digging through the container, he doesn't find much, just a bunch of random supplies like every other container he's gone through. He wants to find something that'll make a difference in the campย โ€” besides the transmitterย โ€” but he's having no luck. Anything would satisfy his want to find something big to bring back to the camp, even if it's not as major as the transmitter.

ย  ย  ย  "Oh, uh, yeah. we saw this two-headed deer our first day on the ground. Welcome to paradise, right?" Clarke continues, responding to what Raven said. He recalls seeing that deer, being horrified at the fact that they're stuck on Earth with things like that. And to think at the time he was scared that their biggest enemy would be the radiation-infused animals are supposed to be scattered everywhere around themย โ€” but instead they're dealing with Grounders.ย

ย  ย  ย  "I wish that'sย the worst of our problems" He interjects, finally bringing his focus up from the container. Just in time for Clarke to finally find the controller for the car, but there's something that catches his eye more than the controller does.

ย  ย  ย  Raven's expression has completely dropped, a look of realization being painted all over her face. She's holding onto her necklaceย โ€” the one with the metal raven on it that she's always wearingย โ€” and if the metal deer were to have a soul, she would be staring right into it. His eyes dart from her face, to the metal deer, and over to Clarke, and then back to Raven.

ย  ย  ย  And then he realizes.

ย  ย  ย  That's not good at all.ย

ย  ย  ย  "Finn always does that. Finds the beauty in the unexpected" Raven suddenly says, snapping out of whatever daze she was stuck in, being lost in her thoughts. She says this as she fiddles with the transmitter, preparing it to be used once they get back to camp. He still can't get over that fact that Raven connected the dotsย โ€” the same dots he barely connected in the first place. He doesn't know what'll happen between the two girls, if Clarke is ever confronted, but he doesn't want to see it happen.

ย  ย  ย  "Good to go?" Clarke questions, and there's an obvious urgency in her voice that makes her sound like she just wants to get out of an awkward situation. Sam doesn't question it, gathering his things and pocketing some of the smaller supplies as he prepares to leave.ย

ย  ย  ย  "Hurry up and save the world, right?" Raven says with a smile. "Yeah. We're good".

ย  ย  ย  And with that, they venture out of the bunker, Sam making another mental note to go back and get the other suppliesย โ€” the blankets, sheets, and other smaller things that could help around the camp. Anything's beneficial, helpful, anything of the sort.

ย  ย  ย  And he knows damn well that the camp needs any help it can get.
