THIRTY | NOW AND THEN I
REREAD THE MANUSCRIPT
The group teleported back to the familiar station, where the state changed for the worse, the walls started cracking, the ground had numerous holes. Everyone started gasping for air, free of the marigold and the monster's grip on them.
"God..." Tate coughed as she stared at everyone. "We're back at the subway..." Five muttered as a train started arriving but the voice was less backwards. The final train for this subway is arriving, the destination, the original timeline.
The train stopped in front of them as the group stared at Tate and Five warily. "Come on," Five said as everyone held onto each other's hand as the door opened with a thud.
"Quickly," Tate hurried as everyone stepped inside the sliver tube. "How did we come here..." Allison asked as the doors started closing in.
The train started moving as the station started crumbling, the walls slowly crashing while the platform slowly sunk into the ground.
"Oh my god!" Allison glanced at the crumbling station. Everyone was caught off guard by the sudden drop as they stared out of the window.
"I think the time travel preserved us... or something," Tate said before she tried dodging Diego throwing a knife before Five pulled her away swiftly, not teleporting them away to the other side of the train as the knife fell flatly on the ground with a clink.
"What..." Tate muttered as Five pulled them onto the nearby seats. "Your powers..." Lila pointed out, nudging onto her husband's side. "Your powers..." Tate looked down at Five's arm tightly wrapped around her wrist.
Everyone stared at Five and Diego as they realised the two had lost their powers, their eyes filled with confusion and realization as they slowly connected the dots in their head, realising what this really meant.
"My tattoos are gone..." Klaus raised his hands, and the goodbye and hello tattoos started fading slowly. "Guys," Tate instructed as everyone tried seeing if their powers were still there.
Tate raised her ring, trying to make the ring spin in her hand. Five started spacial jumping, failing as he stood there.
Lila tried mimicking Tate's motion and failed to do so before she squinted her eyes, failing to shoot lasers out of her eyes.
Luther tried lifting Tate but barely lifted her from the ground before he dropped her in exhaustion. Klaus tried summoning some spirits while Viktor tried powering up. Allison tried glaring at Lila, attempting to rumor her.
"This is... it," Tate sighed as Five gripped her hand tighter. Five stayed silent the whole ride, his thoughts just as occupied as everyone. The train started speeding up as the seven adults took their seats, awaiting the end of the ride.
Everyone's panicked look turned into a look of sadness, grieving the powers they once had and knew all too well. There was a heavy silence draped over the car as the train continued to speed up against the tracks.
"There's only one line left," Tate looked up to see the other timelines slowly fading as the train continued moving. Each coloured line started blurring away from the map as the train reached to the end of the line closer.
"I thought I told you to drop that," Five's voice rang through their bedroom as Tate ignored his comment, typing on her laptop. "I just need something to remember everything by..." Tate muttered as Five kissed her forehead.
"You have a baby, a husband, Emily and Debbie, and seven morons, what more could you need to remember by?" Five asked before Tate closed her laptop. "What are you gonna call it?" Five asked as he took a seat on their bed.
"The Umbrella Academy," Tate stated before she went over to her husband. "I get 10%" Five joked before they shared a gentle kiss. "You get 5% and I'll get everything," Tate played along before she heard the doorbell.
"They're here," Tate smiled as Five grinned happily, pulling his wife to her feet. "Let's go," Five smiled as the two opened the door to see Lila and Diego holding up bottles of alcohol.
"Oh thank god," Five sighed thankfully, causing Tate to roll her eyes as she helped Lila carry some of the bottles.
"How is she, Five?" Diego asked as Five led them into the living room. "She's doing alright, she's in her room," Five stated before the couple went off into the young girl's room.
"We have seven babysitters," Tate joked as she set down the bottles of alcohol. "And two caregivers," Five joked as Emily and Debbie came out holding two trays of food. "Be glad your daughter is a fucking angel," Debbie scolded lightheartedly.
"And easy to take care of," Emily said as the two set down the trays on the table. "I'll be sure to tell her that when she turns 18, Emily said you're easy," Five mocked before Tate playfully nudged him.
The doorbell rang again as Five opened the door to see Luther and Sloane standing together with a basket of cupcakes. "Oh, we got Rory and Dean here, Tate," Five called out to his wife before Tate sprinted to hug Sloane.
"Tate!" Luther scolded as he quickly grabbed the cupcakes. "My favorite sister-in-law," Sloane squealed before Tate dragged Sloane inside the house, leaving Five and Luther to steadily watch the two girls giggle horribly.
"Don't close the door yet!" Allison called out as Five turned around to see Claire holding onto Ray and Allison's arm tightly.ย "Uncle Five," Claire greeted Five as Allison pulled the two inside Five and Tate's home.
"Claire," Five smiled as Lila and Diego brought out Betty. "Look, who's up," Lila held the girl by the arm. "Mommy!" Betty called out for Tate. "My baby," Tate squealed before she picked up the kid in her arms.
"Klaus, you are so slow, we are late," Dave's muffled voice was heard from the group through the door. "I see Diva and his maid have arrived," Tate chuckled as she walked to the door.
"Oh hey, Tate. Betty White, what are you doing here?" Klaus greeted the two as Betty chuckled loudly. "Uncle Klaus!" Betty clapped her hands excitedly. "Be careful, the cat!" Dave reminded asย ย Ben started walking towards the couple.
"I always say that bitch loves the gay thots," Klaus chuckled before he eyed the bottles of alcohol on the table. "No!" Lila stopped Klaus as Five wrapped his arms around Tate. "Are you happy?" Tate asked, turning to her husband.
"I am, are you?" Five asked as Betty squished his face. "I am," Tate said before the two shared another kiss. "God, they're gross," Lila shook her head as Emily and Debbie out with a cake. "It's cute, I think," Emily smiled before setting the cake down.
"Happy Birthday, Betty!" Dave cheered as the door opened one last time. "I think we're late..." Sissy apologized in her southern accent as Viktor, Sissy, and Harlan stepped inside the house. "Just in time..." Five trailed off before Betty stood on a chair.
"It's my birthday, now sing!" Betty ordered as Five's laptop was left open. The screen read "The Umbrella Academy, Volume 1: Apocalypse Suite,"
On the twelfth hour of the eighth day of August 2024, absolutely nothing out of the ordinary occurred. You might say it was just a normal day. โ Pogo
