olo'eykte
soaring through the skies on your tsurak, you tail your father, tonowari, spear in your right hand as you scout the area. when you spot all of the na'vi in your village start to crowd in one area, you look to your father to see if he says or does anything.
you lower and land into the water when your father starts to do so as well, he was staring at the group and you were too. when your tsurak lands, you glide off and walk next to your father, he stares at the group that caused the commotion. your head was held up high as you tighten your grip on your spear, eyes looking down on the dark blue na'vi, scanning them as you notice some oddities. specifically with two of them.
"olo'eyktan," your father greets, "jake sully."
"i see you, olo'eyktan of the metkayina," jake sully says, with a couple others in his group greeting your father as well.
"i see you, future olo'eykte of the metkayina," jake sully greets you, throwing you off a bit. though your position was recognised, the thought of you being greeted by this na'vi did not pass your mind. at the greeting, your chest swells with pride that he treated you with respect and a smirk comfortably rests on your face.
you greet him back, repeating the words of your father, you make eye contact with one of the boys in the group. yellow, reminds you of the eclipse.
your father greets his wife, neytiri, as you hear shuffling from behind. you look back you see your mother, ronal, slowly walking toward the group with caution. her eyes wandered to the reactions of those of the metkayina, and then to analyse the deep blue na'vi.
"i see you ronal, tsahik of the metkayina," jake sully greets again, seeming to hold more fear for your mother. you knew why, she was the one who influenced your father's decisions the most.
your mother doesn't respond as she walks closer, walking in front of you and gently pushes you back. as if to act as a barrier to separate you and the others. when she does so, you motion for your younger brother and sister, ao'nung and tsireya, to come over and stay behind you, copying your mother's intentions.
"why do you come to us, jake sully?" your father asks.
"we seek uturu," jake says, looking between your father, mother, and you for your reactions.
"uturu," your father asks in confirmation.
"sanctuary for my family," he nods his head, hoping that what he said would be enough.
your father looks to your mother for a reaction, while she gives none and stares at the group. deciding to walk up to them while your father shakes his head and continues to speak.
"we are reef people, you are forest people. your skills will mean nothing here," your father says. your expression lifts as you find out they are from the forest, wondering why they would come all the way out to the reefs, when there are other clans with similar living environments to theirs.
"we will learn you ways, am i right?" jake says, looking towards neytiri as she nods her head.
that's when your mother grabs the arms of the youngest one, "their arms are thin."
you felt tsireya grip your arm at your mother's actions and at the younger one yelp, running toward her own mother. this whole situation felt uneasy, but you stayed the same and kept a strong face.
"their tails," she grabs the arms of the other girl as she lets out an 'ow', "are weak, you'll be slow in the water."
you knew exactly where this was going, you saw their hands and you noticed that some of them had hair above their eyes. your mother grabs the hands of the na'vi she grabbed the arms of.
"these children are not even true na'vi," she yells, her hands gripping the wrists of the girl to show off the four fingers that she had. many gasps were heard throughout the crowd, your gaze turning a bit cold.
"yes we are," the girl retorts, taking her arms back and cradling herself in her shawl.
"they have demon blood!" your mother continues to go further than you think she should've and holds up the hands of one of the boys. from your mother's actions, he looks down and his ears point down. you look at the other brother who seemed to be silently taking in what was happening. you see the brother your mother did not attack to only have three fingers like a na'vi usually would, move that hand on to his brother's back as a way to comfort him.
you look back to see your siblings' reactions. ao'nung is shaking his head, agreeing with your mothers words, you knew he thought they were freaks. especially now that he knew some new information. meanwhile tsireya was looking at them with curiosity and interest, not distaste or shock in her eyes.
what shocked you was when jake sully shoves his hand into your mother's face, desperation painted on his, "look, look! look, i was born of the sky people and now i am na'vi, alright. we will adapt, okay."
"my husband was toruk makto, he led the clans to victory against the sky people," neytiri chimes in. you have heard of toruk makto, knowing why jake sully's name was familiar to you.
your mother and neytiri go after one another, and you must admit your mother said some harsh things but you agreed with what she said. toruk makto tries to mediate the two women, before they stop.
"toruk makto is a great war leader, all na'vi know his great stories. but us metkayina people are not at war," your father says, as if annoucing his words to everyone, "we cannot let you bring your war here."
"i'm not at war, okay. i just want to keep my family sage," toruk makto says, looking more at your mother at the end. your parents exchange a look.
"uturu has been asked," neytiri says, looking down.
your parents have a silent conversation. they look at you, letting you into the conversation. it seemed to go back and forth, you express with no words that though you were wary, they needed a place to stay. as long as they brought no harm to the metkayina. your father nods at your mother, then at you.
"toruk makto and his family will stay with us, treat them as our brothers and sisters, they do not know the sea. so they will be like babies, taking their first breath. teach them our ways so they do not suffer the shame of being useless." your father announces, letting it be known what had been decided.
they scrambled out thank yous, as your father motions to your siblings who you allowed to step up from behind you, "my son ao'nung, our daughter tsireya, will show your children what to do.
ao'nung goes to complain but your father stops him from saying anything. tsireya in contrast, excited to help and bring them around the village. she offered to take them around, and soon the crowd dispersed.
you walk up to the family, helping the children take things off their animals and on to the sandy floor for them to take to their new marui pod. you weren't going to go with them to the marui pod but rather take care of their animals.
you had never seen them before, but you knew they would need a place for them to stay. you stared at them, not knowing how to approach them. sure, you had experience with tsuraks, they are creatures that can fly but they can also swim. you weren't sure how to approach a beast, much less five of them.
you reach out a hand toward them, hoping that could create a form of trust. they make squawking noises, and hiss at you. before you can do anything else, a voice invades your thoughts.
"what are you trying to do?" it was the na'vi you held eye contact with. his features looked soft.
"trying to bring your pets to a place they can stay," you turn slightly to look over your shoulder.
"how are you going to do that? ikran only let one person ride, you must earn their trust," he says. you still refuse to look at him, staring at the animals. they remind you of tsuraks and how they decide to ride. unlike ilu who are communal creations as they love to interact with everything.
"i was planning on grouping them up and bringing them to an area near your marui pod, closer to the jungle," you say, walking closer to the ikrans to see if they would allow you to take their reins to lead them somewhere.
"let me help, i know the ikran better," he offers.
"you should find your pod with your family first, get settled in," you say.
you call for your tsurak, hoping to tie all the ikran together to your tsurak and set up an area for the ikran to rest. you look to see that the na'vi hasn't left yet, stubbornly standing there.
"they're creatures from the forest, i know how to handle them," he states. you back off, letting him do what you were planning to. his actions were gentle and calm. you grab the leads off his hands when he was done, taking them over to tie it to your tsurak.
"go and join your family," you say, not looking at him.
"i don't know where my family went," he says with a smile. you stare at him.
is he for real?
"fine. i will take you," you say, tying the leads of the ikran to the base of a tree root before walking up the rope bridge, "let's go."
