As the tips of my fingers finally surrendered tapping on the keyboard of my laptop, I slouched into my chair, wincing a little from my back pain, a tired hiss erupting from my parched lips. My drooping gaze darted towards the glass wall, as I inhaled a sharp breath, the breathtaking scene of dazzling night cityscape altering my wry & exhausted mood.
Wow.
I shifted my eyes back to the lit screen of my laptop, the unfinished work still daunting at me. I suddenly felt my anger taking the best of me, as I reminisced my meeting with the CEO, rude ass.
When he made his point clear that he wanted the work assigned to me to be completed by today itself, I did took it seriously, but when I reported back to my office, I couldn't help but let out a horrified yelp, as my eyes rested on the pile of bulk files, metaphorically smirking back at me.
I decided right away that, I would've to skip my meal altogether today, if I wanted to go home anyhow, cause it seemed nowhere near to the possibility that it would wind up before midnight, if not more.
And yes, my prediction was damn correct, I'm still stuck here in my cabin, my eyes & my fingers tirelessly working on my laptop, as the clock in front of my desk summons 12:30 a.m.
Will I be able to continue to work here for a long period, considering my current situation?? This CEO guy is going to kick me to hell, I swear.
I licked my parched lips, feeling my tummy growling due to the intensity of my ever-growing hunger, with each passing second. I quickly grabbed the water bottle placed on my desk, as I chugged all of it in one go, breathlessly. I glanced at the plate placed in front of me, adorned with hotdog & flavoured milkshake, both of which had been offered to me by Mrs Jeanne early in the evening, the lady was kind enough to have pity on my situation to bring me something to eat, but who knew I wouldn't even be able to touch it, until just now.
I'm left with no other choice, rather than having to eat this cold stuff, which oddly looked mouthwatering. As I munched a bite of it, my face contorted due it's distaste. How tasteless!
Immediately, I pushed away the plate from me, as an expression of disinterest dawned on my pale face. I sighed, feeling helpless. I rubbed my temples, as my eyelids felt heavy & droopy, begging for sleep.
Deciding at last, I stood up from my chair, pushing it back as I decided to take a stroll outside my cabin for a while, to breathe some fresh air & perhaps have some hot coffee to regain my energy. By this time, I'm sure I'm not leaving anytime soon before my work wraps up successfully.
My joints cracked, as soon as I took a step or two, indicating how my body was giving up on me. I heaved a sigh in dismay, surrendering to my situation, as I pushed the glass door of my cabin to walk out into the silent corridor, the air felt cold & chilly as it hit my petite figure. My eyes darted all around searching for somebody's presence, only to be greeted by peaceful quietness. At the very end of the corridor, a bright yellow light was illuminating the entire way down the corridor, which enabled me to make my way to the coffee vending machine, located at the extreme corner of the abandoned corridor.
My ears were extra alert, as if expecting for some sort of commotion around, though I was more than sure that there wasn't anybody else left still in the office, pulling an all-nighter just to complete their work, unlike the dumb me.
I don't really know if I should've taken his words seriously, no wonder he didn't ask me to put an all-nighter to finish the task assigned, apparently it's me who gave in, right?
I contemplated my decision, as I made a mug of refreshing hot coffee for myself, it's invigorating essence bringing life to my numb senses, as I inhaled a sharp breath, feeling relieved somehow.
As I was about to bring the brim of the mug to my anticipating lips, my ears perked up instantly at the sound of somebody's loud footsteps, causing me to snap my head towards the other end of the corridor. My mouth still agape in confusion & anticipation, as eerie thoughts clouded my already dysfunctioning brain due to work overload. Who could it be at this hour?
I thought, there was no one other than me in this office up this late.
My throat dried, as I gulped the lump in my throat, my foot slowly advancing forward to look for some sort of clue. It would be an understatement to say, I wasn't bothered by the ill-thoughts barging into my head, as I reflected on almost all the worst situations I could get caught in right now.
"Who's there?" I asked, almost in a whisper, but still it resonated around the hallway, due to the deserted atmosphere. My eyes widened in epiphany, as I again heard the loud thumping of the footsteps, coming from somewhere nearby.
My heart began pounding within the cage of my chest, as it heaved up & down erratically. I tightened the grip around my mug, as I licked my parched lips, in order to moisten them.
My life just can't get anymore comical at this point.
"I ask again, come out whoever it is. Stop fooling around. I'm not scared! Who's here??" I yelled this time, my eyes rolling 360Β° to catch the shadow, if any.
Suddenly, I felt a strange yet familiar presence behind me, causing my breath to stop right there, I couldn't breathe anymore, as my mouth fell agape in horrendous apprehension. Someone was surely behind me, and I could feel it more than anything, the veins in my entire body pulsating at an unhealthy pace, as I stood there contemplating whether I should turn around & face whoever the hell it is, or to simply make a run for my life.
I froze at my spot, as I felt the heavy footsteps coming towards me, it's sound echoing throughout the empty & deserted corridor, making my breath quicken right there. Oh no! What should I do?? 911!!?
However, before I could race my mind further more, the enthralling scent of a very familiar cologne tingled my nostrils, again, specifically a male cologne, the intense smell of musk & vanilla rummaging the wiring of my head.
Nope, it can't be him, right???
My face scrunched up & I clenched my eyes shut in refusal, my stomach churned just at the thought.
I bit my lips petrified, which I knew was quite evident by the stiffness of my posture, a fearsome pallor spread across my face. I finally decided I needed to face this guy, the least I can do right now.
Turning on my heels in a slow motion, I craned my head up unwillingly, only to squint my eyes in confusion, as I gazed at the person in front of me who's still standing hidden in the shroud of darkness engulfing him, the yellow distant light barely falling on him to visualise his presence.
I cleared my throat awkwardly, as the creepy silence seemed to thicken second after second.
"Who are you?" I croaked out, thankfully without stammering.
No response.
Now I know, it's him. The rude ass CEO.
I'm not scared of him, ok ? I assured myself. What' is he doing here right now?
But still, I decided to play along with him, by not letting him know that I know that it's him. Ok, I admit you got puzzled, pardon me.
To make things worse, he began to step closer, as I stood grounded at my spot, my nails digging into my clammy palm like no tomorrow. His scent fiddling with my head like a puppet, as I felt intrigued by his impeccable yet eccentric aura.
My breath seemed to behold itself, as I caught a glimpse of his clothed shoulder blades becoming visible under the dim light, & slowly him unveiling himself, just like a thriller suspense unravels bit by bit.
That's when my keen eyes met with his devilish gaze, the horrific realisation hitting me out of nowhere, as suddenly I felt chills running down my spine, my body instinctively bristled, as my mouth hung open in epiphany.
No that's not true...is it?
Am I again hallucinating or having another stroke of nightmare?
Endless thoughts raged inside my muddled head, when he finally revealed himself, in all his bewitching glory, that sinister smirk plastered on his lips, not failing to make me wobble on my knees, as my breath hitched in my throat, & I felt air knocked out of my lungs. My self-control & confidence faltering at such a sudden encounter, which soon I seemed to overcome without much effort, which I did not expect, atleast not yet, despite of the fact that I knew how dangerous & malicious his intentions can be. He'd attempted to kill me. He's no joke. Damn not.
How...it's a nightmare? NO! He's real. I concluded as I pinched my arm with my free hand, only to sigh defeatedly as he still stood there in front of me.
"Kim Taehyung..." I breathed, inhaling sharply.
He inched closer, as I stared at him without losing his gaze drilling holes into my own eyes. I felt a drip of sweat trickle down the side of my forehead onto my cheek, as I blinked at him, slightly unsure, my heart beating at an unrealistic pace, making me feel a little dizzy. I tried my best to not let him belittle me by his overpowering aura, as he towered me with his well-built sturdy frame, letting his gaze scrutinize my unwavering look.
As he stood right in front of my eyes, I found myself involuntarily observing his beautifully sculpted face, his deep brown caramel orbs urging me to dive into its depths, & unravel the secrets it hid within. His eyes gleaming with forbidden gore mishaps & twisted acts of devils. His nose sharp & pointed like a pecker, the tip shining slightly in the dim light. As my eyes travelled to his lips, a soft gasp escaped my mouth, they seemed soft & tender, unlike of his wicked & messed personality, causing me to internally chuckle at the nature's contradiction with its own creation. No matter what he truly was like in reality, God has created him totally different from what he chose for himself, ethereal & subtle, enough to put a spell on anybody with his charm.
His deep baritone voice caused my train of thoughts to derail abruptly, as I looked up at him, his smug face dangerously close to my own face, causing me to tilt my head, as I flinched a little.
"Having done with enough gawking,hm?" His timbre voice hummed deeply, causing my throbbing heart to drop into my stomach, as I craned my neck immediately to glare at him.
"Move back!" I shouted, my voice echoing throughout the hallway.
His expression morphed a menacing grin, causing butterflies to flutter in my stomach. Stop it Y/n! Are you a moron?! This ain't damn time to feel butterflies, you dimwit!! I cursed myself.
Instead of stepping back, I felt his hand approaching towards my left cheek, where I felt my sweat dripping down my face, his eyes never leaving the gaze we held all along. As his hand was about to touch my face, I stepped back quickly, yanking his hand away, causing him to stagger back on his feet.
"What the hell do you want from me,huh?" I screamed frustrated at this point, unable to stifle the welling up mixed emotions inside me, agony, pain, anger, exhaustion, laboured frustration..all of it throwing me to the edge of my patience.
All I recieved in response was that same dirty smirk plastered on his face, the corner of his lips twitching violently as he licked his luscious lips. This man is making me lose my sh*t, I tell you.
I balled my fists, extremely raged, having an intense urge to punch his face right there, as I clenched my jaw in fury, exhaling a deep breath.
"You're tail of a dog, came wagging behind me here also. Perhaps, you're stalking me, aren't you?" I taunted, this time my lips turning into a mischievous grin. He frowned, his lips parting before his burning & offended gaze met mine.
Before I could comprehend his next move, I felt a strong stinging pain surge from behind my head, a blood-curdling grip grasping a fistful of my hair causing my body to jolt forward, letting an anguished gasp erupt from my gaping mouth as my eyes widened at the sudden attack.
He was dangerously close, his majestic face radiating gracefulness of his own twisted perfection. Our noses booped, due to the close proximity we were in. Our hot breaths mingled in solitude, as his own breath fanned my face.
I don't know what came over me, but as my body jerked towards him, I let the coffee mug fall out of my hold, before groping my firm grip around his neck out of the blue, my nails engraving into his skin, choking him in my defence.
The sudden counterattack came as a surprise for him, as he wheezed in my suffocating clutch, his eyes popping out. His free hand wiggling & scratching my hand wrapped around his neck, helplessly & sloppily, as we both struggled not to lose our grip.
Our bodies crashed into each other, as we wiggled in each other's tightening grasp. I managed to let out a mocking chuckle at him, urging him to dig his own nails into my scalp, & I felt it would soon start to bleed, as he gritted his teeth, his face reddening due to lack of oxygen in his shrinking lungs.
There's something about him, that I've noticed always, whenever he's around me. His presence always stirred something within me, a sort of rebel...only showcasing itself in the face of adamant danger, apparently posed by himself only. He forces me to raise a devil with him, to counterattack his actions, his repulsive aura always manages to irk me up to the point where I can't help but retaliate him, either physically or verbally.
His movements became erratic & slow, as I witnessed his hooded eyes narrowing to slits, his mouth gasping for air, as his hold on my hair loosened at last, causing me to whip out of his painful grasp. Hot tears pricking the corner of my eyelids, making my vision blurred, as I let out an exasperated laboured grunt.
I charged at him with double strength now, pushing him violently with my hand, as we both collapsed on the cold ground, with me on top of him, as I straddled his torso, his both hands applying utmost pressure to yank my hands off his neck. The scene surely seemed bizzare.
Slowly, I felt my palms going clammy, resulting in loosening my grip around him. He was alert & desperate enough to take the chance to free himself, & soon he managed to whip out with a loud grunt, as he pushed me onto the other side of floor, coughing & panting.
At least, we finally managed to breath a sigh of relief, we both yearned for.
I immediately crawled to the nearby wall, breathing heavily, to lean against it & calm down my abnormal breathing, my heart pounding in my throat, as a few warm & fresh tears of anger mixed with pain trickled down my face.
While he lay there at the spot, where not so long we were fighting for what reason, I still couldn't look for. His body sprawled on the tiled floor, his hands shakily unbuttoning few of his shirt's top buttons, loosening his tie, to gain some extra oxygen, as a tired sigh escaped from his gaping mouth.
Soon enough, I watched him scoot closer to my sitting figure, as his eyes scanned mine with an unreadable expression dawning his face. He indeed was in terrible shock, perhaps.
I felt literally too exhausted & weared out to actually move even a single muscle in my body, only to let him crawl by my side & sit silently, quite the opposite of what I thought he would do right now.
"Vengeance." He whispered in his broken yet raspy voice, causing my head to turn towards him puzzled, as I contemplated that he answered the question which I'd asked him not so long.
"From whom?...from me?" I scowled, rolling my eyes.
"You'll know someday. It's not only you..." he trailed off, breathlessly, as he clenched his eyes, trying his best to regain his composure.
"Why me?" I couldn't think of anything that I must have done to him, to let him make my life a tormenting memory.
He slowly turned towards me, his glistening eyes finally meeting mine, as I felt drowned in them.
"You-you are..." he hissed out, his sentence hanging incomplete in mid air.
"Beautiful, genius , immensely talented-" I said with a chuckle, obviously in a joking demeanor, only to get my mouth sealed by his answer.
"Dangerous."
I quirked my brow at him amusingly, not expecting such an answer, atleast not from him.
Well, there's a change visible in his attitude already. Though I prefer this change as just a warning before a devastating thunderstorm makes its arrival known.
"You think you're strong right? You think, you can fight me, don't you? Let's make a deal then." He simply ignored my quizzical face, his voice sounding deeper & timbre than ever I heard till now. My eyes travelled to the beads of sweat glistening on his forehead, as I slightly hummed.
" If you really think that you can fight me, prove yourself by stopping me from harming others in future. In return, I'll never harm you." His smirk was back on his face, as his eyes glimmered in the dim setting, somewhere making my heart race.
" Why do you harm people at the very first place? What do you get from it?" I asked, sounding unamused by his deal proposed.
Rather than answering my question, he stood up grunting, huffing out a tired pant, as he looked down upon me with an evil grin donning his majestic face, his eyes turning dark & intimidating.
" Do you ever try to look through a person turned into an evil, to know what made him to be like this at the very first place, he never wished to become?" He snarled at me, his brows frowning, tint of angst felt in his tone.
I gulped, his words ringing in my head like a never ending beat of rattle.
" Step out of the illusion you've built around yourself, & see how cruel the world is, to fake the trust cuz remember, every devil was once an angel too."
He sneered, the glint of sadness & untold agony gleaming in his eyes, as he turned away, walking down the hallway, without turning back even just for once, leaving me there battling with my muddled thoughts.
