"MOUSETAIL! SKYSTORM! CLOUDSKY! Spottedsong!" Dovepaw chanted the four new warriors' names with pride for Mousetail. She had worked hard for many moons and now her dream was fulfilled. It was hard not to think about how her own dream failed many moons ago, and she felt guilty thinking about it.

"Dovepaw!" Mousetail was rushing to Dovepaw with excitement shining like flames in her eyes. "I did it! I'm a warrior now!"

"Congratulations," Dovepaw meowed proudly. "I know you've been working really hard on that. I'm sure Lynxstar is proud of you."

Mousetail's eyes shone. "I bet she is! Should I go find her?"

"Sure. If you want," Dovepaw replied, purring at the excited look on her sister's face.

"Okay! Thanks!" Mousetail walked excitedly to the curtain of water and disappeared behind it.

Dovepaw let out a mrrow of amusement and limped back to the medicine den. She's going to do great. I know she is.

***

Dovepaw was resting in the medicine den. Badgertooth was somewhere else; she didn't know where because she was too tired to pay attention. It was a day after Mousetail's naming ceremony. Mousetail seemed to really enjoy it.

She looked up when she heard hurried paw steps approaching. Hollyfern rushed into the den, panting. A bead of blood welled at her nose and she had a large gash on her shoulder. "A battle started at the border! We need warriors, and some cats are already injured!" she gasped, her tone laced with horror.

Dovepaw calmly got to her paws. "Okay. But let me see that injury."

"No, it's fine. I can still fight," Hollyfern meowed through clenched teeth.

"I need to see that," Dovepaw insisted. She examined Hollyfern's scratch on her nose. It was still bleeding, but just a little bit. The scratch was fresh. She turned to the wound on Hollyfern's shoulder. It was bright red around the edges and the wound was covered in earth. She must have been thrown to the ground and the earth covered the wound up. Oh, that's a bad one. It looks like it's already getting infected. She laid a paw on it. It was burning hot. And then something sensational happened.

The wound began to close up.

Dovepaw and Hollyfern gaped at the closing wound. It shrank until there was nothing but Hollyfern's tortoiseshell fur. "Whoa," they mused in unison.

"How did you do that? Did you do that?" Hollyfern asked, obviously awestruck. She was still staring at her shoulder where the wound had been.

Dovepaw shook out her fur, trying to get her amazement out of the way. "There's no time. I'll get Badgertooth and we'll start getting the herbs ready. You go back to the battle."

Hollyfern nodded quickly and rushed out of the den, her tail trailing behind her. Dovepaw gathered some herbs from the herb store and began to make some herb bundles just as Badgertooth came in. "Hollyfern just came in saying there's a battle at the WindClan border. Cats are already getting injured. I was going to get you so we could start getting the herbs ready."

"Okay. Hand me some herbs," Badgertooth instructed, coming up to stand beside Dovepaw.

Dovepaw nodded. She brushed some herb bundles toward him with her paw. "We have to go quickly. MoonClan may be attacking." The camp was quiet now except for a couple warriors guarding the den.

"Are you sure?" Badgertooth asked, his voice full of uncertainty as they began to quickly follow the warriors. "If the battle's at the WindClan border, then it can't be MoonClan. They wouldn't go all the way there to cause all this trouble."

"They could. They do anything to attack us," Dovepaw responded. Bitterness for MoonClan seeped into her voice, but she immediately regretted being so rebellious. "I need to tell you something." She wrapped up her first herb bundle and set it aside. She began on the next one.

Badgertooth finished his, too. "What is it?"

"Hollyfern had a really bad wound on her shoulder, and I was examining it, and then I touched it, and it went away," Dovepaw explained. "I don't know how it happened, I swear."

"Are you sure? Are you sure you just left it alone, because that's fine if you did. There's no shame in admitting it," Badgertooth meowed kindly.

"No! I actually touched it, and then it just disappeared," Dovepaw insisted. "I swear on my life."

Badgertooth sounded unconvinced. He set aside another herb bundle. "Alright."

"I can prove it to you!" Dovepaw cried, setting aside another bundle. "When they come back with a bunch of wounds, I can show you!"

Badgertooth didn't respond for what seemed like a moon. "Okay." He still didn't sound convinced.

Dovepaw didn't press. She turned back to her work. If it wasn't me, I guess I would be as confused as him. I'm still super confused. How can I do that? A gift from StarClan? No, that's not possible. I think I would have heard about it if a cat had powers from StarClan by now. She put another bundle aside. She began to think about Mousetail. "I hope Mousetail is alright," she muttered under her breath.

"She'll be okay," Badgertooth responded gently. "She's a spectacular warrior."

"I hope you're right."

They both set aside their herb bundles. "That'll be enough for now until the warriors return," Badgertooth concluded.

So they waited for the warriors to return from the battle. Dovepaw pricked her ears when she heard the warriors returning and looked around desperately for Mousetail. She couldn't see her anywhere, but she was probably somewhere in between the large group of warriors. Wow, we have more warriors than I thought. She rushed out of the den with an herb bundle in her jaws to the warriors. A good amount were badly injured, but there were a couple who only had a few scratches here and there. She hurried to Ashbreeze, who had a wound on her back that was oozing blood. "Badgertooth!" Dovepaw called. I'll show him that I don't have bees in my brain and I actually saw that wound disappear.

Badgertooth hurried from the medicine den and came to stand beside Dovepaw. "What are you doing? Start treating that wound!"

"I'm going to. But I need to show you what I can do," Dovepaw meowed coolly. "And then you'll see that I'm not delusional." She touched Ashbreeze's wound and waited for it to disappear. Ashbreeze watched with eyes wide with confusion.

"I know you're not delusional. I just think you've mistaken something for something else," Badgertooth argued.

"No, watch." Dovepaw nodded to the wound, which shrinked to a small circle and disappeared. She took her paw off and shot a look at Badgertooth. "See?"

Badgertooth and Ashbreeze both gaped. "Whatโ€”howโ€”how did you do that?"

Hollyfern joined them. "I knew I wasn't imagining it! Dovepaw, you've had this ability and you didn't think to tell us?"

"I didn't know!" Dovepaw exclaimed. "I'm just as confused as you are!"

Mousetail hurried over. She was limping. One of her claws was bleeding. It looked like it had been torn away. "What are you confused about?"

Here's my chance to show her! Dovepaw put a paw on Mousetail's claw. They all watched in awe as the claw began to grow back and the blood oozing from her paw began to vanish. She took her paw away and looked at Mousetail expectantly. "That's what we're confused about. I don't know what happened. It happened with Hollyfern and Ashbreeze, too."

Mousetail was unresponsive. She gazed at Dovepaw with visible astonishment. "That's really weird," she meowed, her voice almost inaudible. She shook her head and her pelt. "You have to tell Lynxstar. When you're done with all of the injured warriors, of course."

Dovepaw glanced at the waterfall where Lynxstar was speaking with Owlheart. "I can talk to her now."

"No. We need you to help out the other cats with injuries." Badgertooth sounded desperate. He glanced around at the injured cats in the clearing. He gasped when his gaze landed on something.

Dovepaw followed his gaze. She saw Frozenfang motionless on the ground, blood flowing from a wound on her neck that led to almost the base of her tail. Dovepaw darted toward her and the cats surrounding her. Cloudsky was crouched beside her head, murmuring encouragement to her. "Move over!" she yowled. Badgertooth came to her side. He was glancing at her then at Frozenfang and then back again. She laid her paw on Frozenfang's neck.

But nothing happened.

Dovepaw didn't stop to question her new ability. "Fetch herbs," she ordered Badgertooth. She looked at Blizzardpelt and Skystorm. "Get cobwebs."

The three toms rushed away and Dovepaw turned to Frozenfang, who's eyes were glazed over with pain. Her breathing came in quick, shallow breaths. "Focus on my voice," she ordered. "Try to breathe. Take deep breaths. You can make it." She continued to murmur encouragement to her while Badgertooth, Blizzardpelt, and Skystorm fetched the supplies. Skystorm skidded to a halt beside her. "Put the cobwebs on her wounds. Make sure to press it on tight. Don't worry about hurting her."

Skystorm nodded swiftly while pressing the cobwebs onto Frozenfang's wound. They were immediately soaked in her blood. Blizzardpelt came with some more and pressed it on, too. The same thing happened.

"Put more pressure on the wound!" Badgertooth instructed beside Dovepaw, making her jump. Dovepaw immediately put pressure on the wound with her paws, ignoring the blood that stained her white fur red. Dawnsplash and Spottedsong brought more cobwebs. Blizzardpelt, Skystorm, and the two she-cats applied the cobwebs to the wound. Cloudsky stayed out at his spot. Dovepaw decided it was a good idea to keep Frozenfang's mind on something other than the pain. The bleeding began to slow down after enough pressure and cobwebs.

Frozenfang was just barely conscious. Dovepaw could tell that Cloudsky was trying his hardest to make sure she stayed awake. Badgertooth set herbs beside her. "Start applying dock. I'll apply horsetail," he meowed, already chewing the horsetail into a pulp.

Dovepaw quickly chewed the dock into a pulp and began to apply it to Frozenfang's wound. Her heart sped up as she realized how much blood there was. Badgertooth applied the horsetail. They began to wrap the wound in cobwebs.

There was a panicked gasp from Cloudsky. "Frozenfang's not breathing!" he shrieked.
