FIVE.
❛ WAIT FOR ME. ❜
Lexi Hale never stopped craving the feeling of being numb. She resented emotion, resented hope and disappointment. There was nothing she hated more than that feeling of worthlessness that grew in her chest when she was let down by hope.
She used to think that she wasn't good enough for others, she still did think that, but there was a tiny part of her that was beginning to hope — hope that perhaps others weren't good enough for her. For once she felt like she had a true friend, one that wasn't using her to get to her brother or Jason. Betty Cooper was finally able to rekindle that spark of hope in her chest and she wasn't sure whether she felt frightened by it or not.
But alcohol was the one thing that could help her forget emotions, it helped her feel numb and she was more than happy to down it as fast as possible.
"Alexis Hale," Betty giggled, having had a sip too many of one of the signature red cups supplied by the Blossom twins containing god knows what percentage of alcohol.
"Yes, my little Elizabeth?" Lexi slurred.
"I-I think I'm a little tipsy."
Lexi laughed loudly, although the sound was drowned out by the obnoxious music. "Sure you are."
"Lexi," Another voice snapped impatiently.
Said girl turned around to face an angry faced Cheryl Blossom. Her red hair was tightly pulled back into a high ponytail drawing emphasis on her face which had a minimal amount of makeup on. Her glaring eyes were surrounded by nothing but a touch of eyeliner and mascara coating her eyelashes, her lips which was the main thing Lexi focused on were their signature red.
She wore a beautiful white dress that surprisingly complimented her fair skin tone. It stretched down to at least three inches above her knees and showed off her slim legs. The last thing Lexi noticed was the height difference, on the Blossom girl's feet were a pair of black chunky heels making her a couple of centimetres taller than Lexi who had opted for flats.
"Hey babe," Lexi smiled exaggeratedly.
Cheryl frowned. The same butterflies erupted in the pit of her stomach at the nickname, the same ones she only got around Lexi, but she hadn't decided if she like it yet. It was a sense of anticipation, of excitement.
"You're drunk."
Another laugh escaped Lexi's mouth. "That I am, Cherry and I'm feeling better."
A sigh escaped Cheryl's lips, she wasn't going to get anywhere tonight. How was she supposed to enjoy her party when her main focus would be on the drunk Hale standing just before her?
"Hey Cheryl! The kegs are here, where do you want them?" A voice yelled over the music.
Her eyes snapped to the left over Lexi's shoulder and caught sight of the football team carrying huge kegs of beer in the front door. Looking back to Lexi, she was torn. The party was just an excuse to talk to Lexi and it seemed she was going to have to wait a little longer before she could do just that. "Wait here for me."
Lexi blinked and she was gone — well, technically she had just walked behind her towards the door but Lexi's intoxicated mind was playing tricks on her. The room was spinning and everyone's face seems blurry. When her eyes were finally able to focus and find the blonde wave of hair still standing next to her.
"Hey! I love this song, lets go dance!" Betty rushed and grabbed Lexi's hand before she could protest.
When Cheryl was done telling Reggie where to put the drink, she turned to find Lexi had disappeared from her previous spot. Instead her eyes found the brunette dancing with Elizabeth Cooper.
Cheryl's eyes widened at the sight. Lexi swung her hips seductively to the sound of the music with her arms guiding Betty's as she tried to get her to relax into the dance. The redhead's lips went dry as Lexi trialled their joined hands over her body and then took the chance to grind her body against Betty's.
"I see Archie! I'll be back in a minute." Betty yelled into Lexi's ear who nodded in response.
The brunette continued to dance on her own as her slowly rose above her head and ran her hands through her hair. Her eyes closed as she took the moment to forget the world and all her worries. When she opened them again, they widened at the sight of Cheryl approaching her and a mischievous grin plastered itself on her face.
"Cherry! Come dance with me!" Lexi moved quicker than Cheryl could agree and grabbed her wrist sending electric shocks through Cheryl's skin as her delicate skin touched hers.
The redhead smiled as Lexi ran her hand from her wrist up to her shoulders and wrapped both arms loosely around her neck. Cheryl took the chance to secure her hands on the brunette's waist and slowly felt herself begin to relax as she danced with the Hale girl, her eyes never leaving Lexi's.
"You didn't wait for me," Cheryl shouted over the music.
"I'm drunk, remember?" Lexi yelled back with a small smirk.
Cheryl felt herself involuntarily smile and tried to stop herself but it was too late. "Did you come here with anyone?"
"Just Betty." Cheryl felt her eyes turn into slits at the mention of the girl that had the chance to dance with Lexi before she did. Unexpectedly, Lexi threw her head back and laughed causing Cheryl's eyes to nearly burst from their sockets. How could anyone look so breathtakingly beautiful even when they are heavily drunk and out of their mind. "Are you jealous, Cherry?"
The sparkle of playfulness shined brightly in the brunette's eyes as Cheryl opened and closed her mouth like a fish. The redhead had never felt this vulnerable and nervous before, she was used to being the top dog at the school, she was in control. She was not loved but feared, just the way she liked it. But with Lexi she felt the unbearable need to please her, to win her approval and gain her love, not hate or fear.
"And if I am?" She managed to sound fearless, despite how it was the exact opposite of how she truly felt.
"You have nothing to fear." Lexi smiled exposing her ridiculously straight and shining white teeth.
Cheryl didn't know what she meant by that but she did know one thing. The space between their faces was slowly closing. Lexi was moving closer with her eyes focused solely on Cheryl's lips before flashing up to her eyes every once in a while to make sure she wanted this just as bad as she did. Cheryl felt her heart in her chest beat faster, she was so certain that it was beating louder than the music around them.
They didn't notice anyone around them because in that moment they were the only two people in the room. Lexi's eyes closed as she brushed her lips against Cheryl's and tried to savour the feeling. Cheryl didn't have the strength to break the contact or embrace it. Her breathing became shallow causing goosebumps to arise on Lexi's arms as she felt her breath on her lips.
Lexi was the one that took the chance to connect their lips in a more intimate position as she took Cheryl's lips between her own and fought the urge to moan at the taste of her strawberry flavoured lipstick. It only took a few seconds for Cheryl to kiss her back and when she did, her arms unconsciously pulled Lexi's body closer to her own.
The feeling of her bare skin at the base of her back sent Cheryl's emotions into overdrive. A sensation grew in her stomach and travelled down past her navel as she deepened the kiss, wanting to taste more and more of Lexi. The brunette finally let out a small moan of delight as she fought the desire to separate their lips and reconnect them in a more private place.
They pulled apart at the same time and took in large gulps of air as their lungs burned from the lack of oxygen. But that didn't stop Lexi from leaving a trail of light openmouthed kisses on Cheryl's jawline causing the redhead to tilt her head back and give her better access. When she pulled back she smirked at the sight of Cheryl's disappointed face and kissed her again.
