CHAPTER NINE ✧・゚: * 🌪️🌀
▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅
JAVI LEFT SOON AFTER SAYING HIS GOODBYES TO THE SISTERS, WHILE THEY WATCHED HIM LEAVE OUT OF THEIR LIFE'S ONCE MORE HOPING TO SEE HIM AGAIN. Kate had gathered them all inside the barn to look at the new data they got, while Kathy their mother stayed also with them even if she didn't understand what was being done.
A beeping sound came from the laptop, the screen now showing the new data into their model they created to see if it would work. Charlie stood beside Tyler, arms crossed over her chest looking at the 3D scan of the storm from the other day that showed up.
"Wow, these scans are impressive." The male beside her commented in a deep voice, one of his arms slung around Charlie's waist as she was flushed against his side, both of them on the other side of Kate.
The elder Carter sister nodded her head, being leant on her elbows observing the data that was being shown, "I mean, it's a complete map of the chaos." She agreed, turning her head around to the duo, "Char, Tyler, our moisture numbers are off."
Charlie furrowed her brows, slipping out of Tyler's hold despite feeling it getting tighter when she did so, and leant down to the screen, "Well, currently the polymer is only absorbing the existing raindrops," She began explaining, tapping one finger on the model, "not the moisture from the humidity. I mean, we need more of it to precipitate out more."
"So, we need to make it rain." Tyler murmured with a tongue click, his eyes finding her ones that she looked back at him with and he leant his side against the table blocking her off from moving away. He wasn't sure how they'd do it, but he knew it had to happen.
Kathy, not really understand what was going on thought for a second, until something came back to her that she remembered, "They were cloud seeding in Lawton a few years ago for the farmers." She suggested glancing to her daughters, and took a sip from her beer.
Charlie and Kate shared a knowing look with one another, before the latter was standing up straight and rapidly nodding her head beside her sister now, "Yeah. Yeah, silver iodide."
Their mother ruffled her daughters hair fondly, making Charlie grin at Kathy who walked out of the shed, and she turned back to Tyler feeling him bumping his hip into hers playfully, listening to him talking about ideas for the experiment.
"We could shoot rockets of that." He began to speak, a finger in the air pointing at whatever as he looks to Charlie who beamed up at him, "So, the silver iodide converts the moisture into rain, and then the sodium polyacrylate, we need a lot of it -- would pull the water from the storm, increasing the cold pool."
The sisters shared another excited look that passed between them, and Charlie had an arm wrapped around Tyler's muscular one as they all share matching grins, "No faster way to choke a tornado."
As they finished their discussion inside the barn, finally they were packing up and leaving Sapulpa after so many days living in that house. Charlie didn't want to leave at all, as she enjoyed being in her childhood home again, where all her good memories were locked tight in.
Tyler was closing the door of his red truck, holding his phone with one hand, as he had called Lily to fil her in with what was happening. He knew his team would get along with both girls nicely, more specifically Charlie since he never stopped yapping about her, and they definitely would give him shit now knowing they were good again.
"Hey, Lily. Yeah, I couldn't get Boone." He talks into the speaker, switching hands to carry a white T-shirt in the one he was just holding the phone in, "No, we're gonna need you guys for something. No, no, no. We'll come to you -- Alright."
He hangs up the phone once the conversation was finished, and he spots Charlie walking out from around the truck, wearing his Stetson on her head again. He chuckled breathily to himself, and tried his best to hide his smirk having a feeling she was doing that on purpose to rile him up.
Charlie smiles softly at her sister and mother hugging, before they pulled apart and she was pulled into an embrace next. Kathy rubs her hands up and down her youngest back, while Charlie's face was nuzzled into her mothers shoulder, arms tightly wrapped around the latter's shoulders.
"Is this it? Or you gonna come back before you go home?" Kahty speaks to both her daughters, even though she was still embracing Charlie, palms rubbing soothing circles on the younger ones back.
"You know we will." Kate replied for the both of them softly, a knowing smile across her mouth seeing the gentle look in Tyler's eyes watching her sister with, as Kate was stood beside the male behind them.
Charlie wanted the hug to last forever, as being in her mother's arms brought her comfort and security that she missed. But she eventually pulled back, and held her mothers forearms when Kathy opened her mouth to say something.
"You give that boy hell, hm? Make sure he treats you right." Kathy whispered gently for only Charlie to hear, and it made the girl smile shyly with a head nod, "Love you Bear, Love you Kate." She added on, giving her daughters one last smile.
"Love you." They answered in sync, Charlie squeezing their mothers hand softly before turning around to walk towards Kate who lead her to the truck behind them. She opened the door to the front, while Kate hopped into the back, giving her the chance to hear Tyler and Kathy talking,
He held out the white T-shirt in his hand, and passed it over to Kathy who was looking at him both curious and weirdly, "This is for you." He says almost sounding proud, which he was but wouldn't admit it.
Kathy took the clothing from him, and began to unfold it as she nodded towards Charlie, who was making Kate laugh with the Stetson on her head that kept falling off, "You have any idea what you're getting yourself into?" She asked feeling protective of her daughter, knowing her past with the male.
Tyler grinned a bit dopley down at the ground, before nodding strongly, "I did once, and now I'm beginning to again." He answered fondly, his heart melting hearing the sweet sound of Charlie's laughter behind him near his truck.
When the shirt was fully unfolded, Kathy actually looked at the shirt that said 'Not My First Tornado' with a picture of a male inside a truck holding a lasso, and a tornado beside it, "Huh... Thanks." She trailed off, not knowing what to say nor thank about it.
He just awkwardly grinned once more, and shuffled in his spot as he really wanted to impress the love of his life's mother, but felt like he didn't with the shirt, "Okay." He nodded his farewell, and went to turn to the truck's driver side.
Charlie popped her head out from the window, one hand holding onto the hat and the other held onto the door, "Come on, you dork." She chuckled to Tyler who grumbled embarrassed, "I'm sure our mother realllyyy loves the T-shirt."
He just rolls his eyes not finding her funny, and opens the door to the driver side, just as Kathy flashed the shirt to her daughters who both were amused, before they were buckling up for the drive to where their new crew was now waiting for them.

THE DRIVE TO THEIR NEXT MEETING SPOT WASN'T THAT FAR AWAY, BUT IT GAVE MORE TIME FOR CHARLIE TO HOLD TYLER'S HAND WHILE HE DROVE THEM. She knew it would become a common thing between them again, not that she was complaining since he was the one whom reached for her hand first while he directed the truck on the road.
When they arrived at the local repair shop, which was closer to the area where the storms kept hitting, everyone was there waiting for them. It surprised Tyler when Ben was still with his crew, who seemed like he was ready to quit after the last storm they faced.
"Ben, you stuck around." Tyler was the first to talk, him walking up to the male with a proud grin as one of his hands was behind his back for some reason, most likely hiding a certain someone.
The male was now dressed in a flannel and boots like the rest of them, as he goes to shake Tyler's free hand in the middle of them, and comments, "Turns out there's more to this story than I thought."
"We got a new ending for ya." Tyler's mouth breaks into another wide smile that showed his teeth, before he moved to the side to reveal who was latched onto him since he arrived.
Out from behind him was Charlie, who nervously shot up straighter feeling everyone's eyes now on her and Kate. Charlie was still wearing Tyler's Stetson, with a brown singlet tank-top and a flannel tied around her waist, as she held onto his hand tightly.
Everyone smiled happily at the view of the sisters, and Dexter chuckled a bit not expecting them both, nor did he expect to see Tyler holding Charlie's hand again, "Look who it is. City girls."
Lily bounced on over to them both automatically, and wrapped an arm around Charlie's shoulders making her yelp, and Tyler to panic at the rough treatment, "What's up, Charlie? Kate?" She greeted grinning brightly, shaking the younger sister a bit, "'Bout time you joined us, Miss Charlie."
Dexter chuckled in agreement with his friend, and placed his hands on his hips standing in front of them, "Finally decided to ditch all those squares, huh? Right on." He told them amused, looking between the girls through his glasses.
"Mm-hmm. Yep. Ya'll missed a big one, look." Lily lifted up her tablet in her hands, to show the girls a recent video of the latest storm from her drone, causing Charlie to hum curiously, "See? Made sure I recorded this one for ya Char."
Charlie flushed a bit shyly hearing that comment, eyes flickering to Tyler who gave her a charming wink from his spot talking with Ben. Her face heated up more at that, and knew he was the reason why Lily did record the recent storm.
"Oh, uhm, thank you--" She squeaked out to the girl, feeling Kate looking over her shoulder at the storm on the tablet which was better quality then they ever seen, "Can you rig that drone to collect data? If that's possible pretty please."
Lily thought for a moment before sharing a look with Dexter, and nodded her head rapidly at Charlie, "I can do that since you're asking." She smirked determined, and playfully bumped her shoulder into the latters left one.
Charlie beamed at the both of them excited, as her attention moves away from her sister and the other two talking, to where Tyler was walking up to Boone. She felt bad for the guy knowing Tyler was also Boone's childhood friend, and how she felt bad for hogging him.
Tyler wandered over to Boone, who normally would be chatting away with the sisters and being loud, but he was silent unlike him. Tyler placed an arm around Boone's shoulders, and spoke to him softly, "Hey, buddy. I'm sorry. How do I make it up to you?"
"Man, you abandoned me." He muttered sadly, his body facing away from the group but could still hear their conversation they were all having, "I don't know nothin' about no makeup--"
"How about we launch some new rockets?" Tyler cut his friend off, a smirk lining his mouth knowing it would work since Boone loved to launch rockets out of the truck, which is what his viewers also loved to witness over the screen.
Boone paused for a second to think the male's words over, before his head perked up almost instantly, "You said rockets?" He murmured hopefully, gaining another smirk from Tyler who patted his arm.
Charlie eventually trailed up beside the two, and wore a sheepish smile as she fiddled with her camera strap around her neck, "I'm sorry for taking him away for so long, Boone." She speaks gently making the two turn to look at her, "I would of invited you over also then."
"Nah, don't sweat it sweetheart." Boone assured with a goofy grin thrown at her, and nudged his elbow into Tyler's stomach with a knowing smirk next, "I mean, it was totally worth him going to see you. Now we can stop hearing him talk about ya, I doubt he will though--"
Tyler quickly slammed his hand over his friends mouth, as Charlie gaped at them both shocked while Tyler's cheeks were turning red, "Thanks for that Boone," He says through a forced chuckle, and Boone's snickers are muffled by his palm, "That's enough outta you."
"Hey!" Dani then called out which stopped all conversations, the girl standing with the owner of the shop and Ben, as she waved the group over with her hand, "Ya'll ready?"
They all headed over now to walk through the used trailers, and Charlie ended up right beside Tyler with Kate on her other side. Charlie leant into his side feeling him pulling her in, and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, their conjoined hands hanging off it too.
Upon seeing that, his crew had knowing smirks on their faces, and would tease him when she wasn't by his side and ask what exactly happened. His friends weren't dumb, as they knew something changed by how touchy they were and how she was wearing his Stetson. The questioning would have to wait though.
"We need a 40-foot trailer that's light enough for a pickup but heavy enough to anchor barrels in 100-mile-an-hour winds." Dani explained to the owner, who was in front of the group trailing through the yard while the others were behind listening.
Her words confused the older male, as it was an odd and very specific request that he's never gotten from someone before, "Why the hell would you want that?" He asked a bit incredulously, coming to a slow stop to look at the crew.
Dani paused too also realising she didn't know, before glancing over to the Carter sisters for an answer, making the rest follow the movement, "Why the hell do we want that?"
Charlie squeezed Tyler's hand in hers, looking up at him briefly and then back to Kate who nodded for her to explain, "Uh, well, 'cause when we drive into a tornado," She began with an innocent shrug, "We want whatever's on the trailer to get sucked in, but not us."
The owner was still confused as to why they needed it, but thought for a few seconds looking between them all and answered soon after, "You're gonna want aluminum."
Now, after finishing up their business with the owner, the team was in a field getting all the equipment ready. While some of them worked outside their vehicles, Boone was filming what was happening around him with the camera he made.
"Dexter, talk to me." The said male was his first victim, as he trailed over to him working below where Dorothy was placed on the stilts, and held the camera up, "What's going on?"
"Testing the Goldilocks principle of a tornado," He starts pouring some iodide inside of the rockets he was holding, and would sometimes glance up at the camera, "by modifying the variables, hopefully disrupting the process."
As he explained that and gained confused hum for Boone, Dani handed the full rockets up to Charlie who sat on top of Tyler's truck still wearing his hat, and now his second pair of sunglasses right beside Kate, their legs dangling together.
"Dani, what does that mean?" Boone questioned completely lost, and wanted it in simpler terms for the viewers to understand, as he panned the camera up to her now.
"Taming the tornado." Dani summed it up easily, a wide smirk across her lips handing more rockets to Charlie, who huffed out a small laugh and share a smile with her sister leaning against her.
Boone humed once more behind the screen, and moved the camera to focus on Charlie now, "It's the day you've all been waiting for." He spoke to the viewers amused, gaining a confused look from her and a grin from Kate, "This is T's future wife everybody!"
Charlie's eyes went wide behind the sunglasses, her fingers fumbling with the rocket in her hands and almost dropped it if it weren't for Kate grabbing it. She smiled awkwardly at the camera with red cheeks, and gave a slight wave that had Boone snickering amused.
"T, tell us what's going on." Boone directed the attention back onto Tyler, who walked up beside Charlie sat on his trucks roof and leant against it with his shoulder touching her leg.
"Alright, we're gonna shoot the clouds with rockets of silver iodide." He explained pointing towards the said object in his girls hand, giving a slight squeeze to Charlie's calf that the camera didn't pick up on, making her flush more as she watched him walk away from her.
Boone followed close behind him with the camera still, and nodded his head to show he was listening, "Yeah, this is rain, right?" He asked his best friend, wanting to clarify for the audience watching.
"Yep. Rain is what we need in the updraft." Tyler confirmed with a grin thrown over his shoulder, and came to a stop where the trailer carried the barrels, "And then we're gonna take the sodium polyacrylate and we're gonna deliver it in the vortex--"
Upon seeing Ben fiddle with the clasps on the barrels, at the same time, Charlie and Tyler both scolded him in sync, "Don't touch that." They exclaimed from their different spots, before their covered eyes shot to each others wearing matching bright smiles.
"Ooh, I can just feel the chemistry in the air." Boone whispered to the camera, making sure he got that moment between them for the viewers and how he secretly knew Tyler would want to watch also, "Don't ya'll agree with me?"
None of them heard what he said, as Ben just pulled his hand back away from the barrels, and Tyler went on with what he was saying grinning to himself, "--increasing the cold pool."
"And that does what to the tornado?" Ben asked the male in front, no standing away from the barrels so he didn't get scolded by the couple again. He tried his best to understand the storms happening, but still wasn't an expert on them.
Tyler glanced up from folding the clasp on the barrel, and went to walk past him as he answered through a small chuckle, the camera following him till he was out of view, "It cuts the fuel, Ben."
A few minutes later after all the set up was finished, the storm in the distance was starting to get a little bigger. This made Charlie jump down from the truck, camera in hand and went to take pictures, Kate lingering behind where others were watching her sister with a soft smile.
She loved when her sister was in her element, as that was when she saw Charlie most peaceful. Despite the shared trauma they have, Kate never once stopped pushing her sister to continue taking pictures, as she knew that was how Charlie expressed her emotions. And in general it was the girls pride and joy. All Kate wanted was her sister to be happy.
The insects chirp through the luscious grass that blows gently in the breeze, Charlie's figure walking through that very grass up until she reached the edge of the hill. She had Tyler's red rag wrapped around her wrist, and held up her camera with both hands seeing the ethereal scenery.
She inhaled deeply in through her nose, hair now free from the hat being taken off her head, as she feels the cool breeze wash on over her. Nothing could ever best the feeling of standing in the field near a storm for her, it was something that made her feel free and at peace.
Her brown eyes flutter open after a few seconds, and lifted up the camera to take some pictures. A small smile perked at the corner of her mouth, just as the shutter makes a clicking sound taking a photo of the gloomly, but gorgeous scenery.
The dark clouds were getting more fierce as time passes, and she had a feeling something big was about to come out of the storm. She didn't know if it was going to be a good thing or not, only time could tell her that. It just meant they had to pack up and leave soon.
Unknown to the girl, Ben was back at the red truck taking pictures of his own, lens focused on Charlie's figure standing in the field. The camera beeps and clicks as he tried to take the perfect picture of her, which gained Kate's attention from leaning against the truck beside Tyler, who couldn't keep his eyes off of the girl.
"She is your story, Ben." He now spoke softly, green gaze trained on Charlie only which was full of fondness and felt his heart squeeze seeing how beautiful she looked especially since she held onto his camera he bought her, "She always has been."
Ben chuckled through his nose glancing towards him, and stood up from his bent position as Kate smile knowingly to herself and nudged Tyler's side with her elbow, "You couldn't be anymore obvious, Owens. What a love sick puppy you are."
Tyler rolled his eyes not amused, which made Kate snicker loudly and for Ben to laugh at the scene. The ex-bull rider nods to the camera in the male's hand, "Gimme a copy of that." He asked of Ben, knowing he would place that picture of Charlie everywhere he could.
Kate then proceeded to push Tyler towards her sister, making him stumble a bit and give her a confused stare, "Just go talk Charlie already." She told him rolling her eyes knowingly, and smiled softly, "We gotta get going now anyway, so go get her."
Over in the field still, Charlie had no idea what was happening till she heard footsteps behind her, and paused her photography. She looked over her shoulder, face instantly beaming spotting Tyler walking up beside her, the one making the loud footsteps.
He came to a stop in front of her with an awkward smile, and placed his hands on his hips, "Uh, we are planning to head out now." He told her, eyes moving to her and then back to the clouds, "Sorry to cut your picture taking short."
She shakes her head with a nose scrunch, and places the camera around her neck now wear the necklace was present making his gaze drop to them, "Yeah, I figured we would be. I got enough pictures anyway." She assured sighing, before catching where he was looking and smiled lopsided, "Yes, I do still have them with me Ty. I always did."
His gaze widened realising she spotted him, and cleared his throat embarrassed, "Uh, yeah, that's good--" He stumbled out, mentally cursing himself for it and heard her sweet giggle flow through his ears, "I'm really glad you still have the camera at least. Means a lot to me."
Now, Charlie can be a bit oblivious at times, but wasn't that bad to not understand what he meant to say. She knew he meant she meant a lot to him, but wouldn't say it out loud. So she just flashed him a toothy grin, one that made his eyes soften on her figure.
He only then noticed the grease mark on her cheek, and felt himself reaching forward, "Sweetheart, you got a--" He paused mid sentence, gaining a confused sound from her and Tyler just nodded towards her face, "Here, let me."
Her face burned red when his rough skin made contact with hers, his hand cupping her cheek to rub his thumb over the grease mark and softly wiped it away. Their eyes met, causing his movement to stop and instead just stood there cradling her face, touch lingering for longer then needed.
Tyler swallowed the lump in his throat, a lot of different thoughts and words flooding his mind as his eyes flickered from her parted mouth, and back to her doe eyes again. He was sure she felt the same way, by how she leant into his palm and felt her fingers grazing along his side.
However, whatever moment they were having snapped as soon as they heard laughter from their crew. Both of them stepped back a bit, touches dropping completely embarrassed as Charlie offered him a shy smile, and handed him the red cloth she held.
He took the cloth with a tight smile of his own, their fingers grazing as he watched her walk away towards an amused grinning Kate. When she was out of view, he grinned a bit dopily to himself before heading over to the crew, ready for round of their teasing.
Charlie ended up beside Kate leaning into her side, and chuckles to herself hearing Boone and the others all laughing and teasing Tyler for what happened. She spotted them all around him pointing, teasing and shoving as Tyler was stuck in the middle, clearly embarrassed trying to avoid their questioning making her smile softly.
