Valerie's eyes are sea green, and dappled with touches of a faint blue. The color vibrantly contrasts her dark lashes, and they have a sharp and demure shape. Her skin tone is deep, and tan while her hair is chocolate brown and long.

She is ambitious, and very intelligent. She's spent her whole life working hard, and striving for excellence which is how she got to where she is.

Everything she does is incredibly precise, calculated and utterly cunning. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, and she can be a bit cutting. She isn't ruthless, but she is willing to do what she needs to do in order to advance in life.

She is charming - very charming, and very good at achieving what she wants. She has a walled up exterior, and she finds it difficult to let people in. Usually, there is a hint of mirth in her eyes and the ghost of a smirk on her berry hued lips.

Intelligent - witty, and quick on her feet with solutions and plans.

Calm - in the eye of the storm, she takes a breath and stares ahead.

Determined - she is very ambitious, and driven to succeed.

Kind, shockingly so. She is very observant, so things don't usually slip past her. She pays attention to the people around her, and what others ignore about them. Very loyal, and willing to sacrifice herself for others.

Losing her ability to operate. Usually she worries about injuring her hands, or something of the sort. She wants to help people, more than anything, and she can't imagine a world where that's taken away from her.

People truly knowing, and understanding her. There is a lot more than what meets the eye with her. She looks like a slightly uncaring, utterly charming ace who carries confidence like a weapon. But she's got her damage, and she's scared of people seeing her fracture lines.

Failing her nephew. Being that she has full custody of him, she is terribly worried that she will fail him, like she was failed as a kid.

Surgeries going wrong, failure, becoming utterly alone, losing anymore loved ones.

Watching people fail - she's too empathetic for that.

Valerie Young was put up for adoption as a baby, along with her older sister. Both were taken in by a couple a few weeks later. Her childhood was usual for awhile, happy family, picket fence with a golden retriever. However, when she was nine years old her adoptive parents died.

It was a house fire. Her father passed away first, while trying to get her sister, Daphne, out. Then, her mother died at the hospital later from severe smoke inhalation.

Both the girls were put into foster care, and tragically, they took the pain differently. Valerie was determined to succeed, and amidst the abuse, trauma and suffering they were put through, she persevered. Her sister started doing drugs, and left Valerie around as soon as she turned 18.

After her only source of home left, Valerie was on her own. She worked hard, and got a scholarship for Harvard, for a degree in medicine. While she was there, she met a girl and they dated for a year and a half. They broke up when Valerie opened up about her past, and her anxiety because her girlfriend didn't think she could handle it.

She tried to contact her sister multiple times throughout the years, but Daphne had no interest in contacting her.

Until what would be season three of the show. That's when Daphne showed up out of nowhere, claiming she wanted to reconnect and let Valerie have a relationship with her three year old nephew. About a week later, she left and abandoned her son with Valerie.
