December seventh.
What she looks like:
Looks in more detail+ any differences:
Satomi has a very polished look about her. Her pale blonde hair is always tied back into a braided bun, with a few pieces left to frame her heart shaped face. Her shirt when not dressed in academy clothes always consists of a white blouse, with a perfectly straight collar and sleeves. As well, she has a small silver chain which always hangs around her neck. It has a small charm on it- a small wildflower.
Her slender shoulders are stronger than they appear, and carry much more weight than one would guess. Her posture always remains straight, her years of playing piano are the cause of this.
Her fingers are slim, long and nimble, perfect for setting traps or playing the instrument. She also has scars adorning the tips of her fingers, from years of working in the garden with her mother. There is also a scar running through her right eyebrow, effecting the way the hair grows. She got it when she was young, from her younger brother throwing a toy truck at her face.
Her eyes are a deep burgundy red. They're small, and narrow, yet warmer than one would think. The cool undertones make the color akin to a red wine, with dark lashes accentuating the hue.
Her left arm is metal, and above the place where it starts, she has a bunch of scars.
Personality:
Satomi is the reserved type. She's not quite cold, though she prefers to keep to herself. She is quiet, brooding in a way, and distant. Like words are leaving her mouth, by her mind is somewhere else.
In a fight, she will take charge. It's surprising to see her in a battle, or on a mission when compared to how she is regularly. Her prowess and presence is magnetic, and intimidating to the point where she hardly has to speak to be understood. Her maturity and strength are illuminated by her will, and wisdom.
Satomi has always been older than she was. From the moment hardships crossed her, her response was to grow and learn from mistakes. She's a protector, a guide, and most of all the a leader. She is selfless when need be, and determined to succeed in every way she can.
She has made her fair share of mistakes, but she always picks herself up after them. She reviews what happened, and does her damndest to learn.
The thing about her, is the way she conceals emotion like a mask painted onto her face. The sadness gets buried along with the anger, guilt and regret. It's not because she doesn't want anyone to know who she really is, or see her as weak. It's just... not worth the trouble. Rather, she is not worth the trouble.
Other people though? Even strangers? They're worth every moment of trouble one could muster. When she goes on missions, or trains, she always tries to understand everyone she's with. She works better solo, but excels in team work because of how thoughtful and precise she is.
Satomi blames herself for things out of her hands, and creates herself to be a lost cause. Her skill and her achievements are all over-shadowed by the darkness in her mind. A worthless creature she is, who will provide everyone besides herself with wisdom and kindness.
She is also quite the ponderous type. She will always wonder what life from the other side looks like. She respects every point of view, and is constantly worrying about whether she's morally sound. The thing is, the lines between murder and protecting are so blurred by now. All she wishes to do is work hard to keep innocent people safe, but can't help but wonder if she's doing just the opposite.
In other words, she's a reserved, wise leader of sorts who overthinks beyond belief.
Fears:
Satomi has many fears, just as any other person. These are just the main ones-
Trusting people, only to be lured into a trap. Satomi has dealt with liars, killers, and two faced fools her whole life. She hasn't let them gain her trust, aside from her parents, but she is terrified she will at some point. She will stay up late at night thinking about how one choice of her's could effect many, if she trusted the wrong person. As a result, her trust is not easily won.
Satomi is scared of harming innocent people. There is a constant battle in her head over right and wrong, and she can't help but feel like she's wrong sometimes. She knows the pain of losing someone, by the hands of an enemy you've never met. She'd hate to inflict the same guilt, and anger and grief onto another person who did nothing to deserve it.
Heights. Satomi will never, ever admit this fear to anyone. However, she is absolutely petrified of heights. Seeing your father be thrown off of a mountain can do that to someone. This is a fear she has never been able to shake, despite trying many times.
Likes:
Satomi has an affinity for working with her powers. She loves training with them, and pushing her limits to see how far she can take them. Training is her favorite activity, because it allows for her mind to focus on something else for a moment. When she is using her powers there is a moment where nothing else matters, and when she can feel truly free.
This is a strange and rather specific like, but she likes being outside at night. When she was young, she and her mother would spend hours outside doing whatever they wishes. Sometimes they'd tie flowers into crowns, other times they'd rest beside the river behind their home and watch the dragonflies. They would almost always end up falling asleep, while gazing up at the stars. She has very fond memories attached to the outdoors at dusk, and loves being outside at night to the day.
Playing piano. Before she discovered her powers, her free time was spent learning the instrument. Of course, recently, she's not been able to, but you'll find out about that later. When she was a kid though, she was something of a prodigy. Even now, she adores listening to classical music and savoring each note.
Green tea with one swirl of honey, and a squeeze of lemon. It's the only way she'll drink tea. It reminds her or home, of simpler times when the world didn't seem so jaded and painful. Her grandfather would always make each of them a cup whenever she'd visit. They'd sit out on the bench they had outside, listening to the crickets chirp, while catching up. She'd ask him how the store he ran was doing, he'd ask how her piano lessons were going.
Dislikes:
Being alone. Satomi, despite spending most of her time on her lonesome, dislikes being alone all the time. Sure, everyone needs space, but when she goes days on end with hardly uttering a word to anyone- she feels stagnant. Lonely, if you will. She does it to herself, and she knows that, but sometimes she just wants company of some kind. She just doesn't have anyone to turn to, well besides one of her teachers. Even then though, she generally will just keep to herself.
Pity. Satomi hates when people see her and give her those sympathetic stares. She prefers the people who taunt her over what happened, as opposed to those who act like they understand. Those who look at her as if she'll crumble at any second, and treat her like a ticking bomb. It gets under her skin, and the gazes on her back only serve as a bitter reminder.
This one is something she only partially dislikes, and partially really likes. Her powers are a double edged coin. She hates how they make her different from so much life outside her kind. She often wonders how life would look if she didn't have any abilities. She had always liked the idea of leading a regular life. Getting a safe career, finding a partner, doing something less risky. But, she also values her powers and enjoys using them for good.
Satomi loathes the scent of pine. She's always hated it, and gets sent into a sneezing fit whenever it's strong. She isn't sure why she hates it so much, but it's always been very off-putting for the girl.
Relationships:
Noboru Endo~ father; deceased.
Before his passing, they were quite close. There were times when they disagreed and bickered, but they loved each other very much.
Mikino Endo~ mother; deceased.
Before she passed away, they were very close. Satomi and her mother would spend a lot of time together, and were as close as could be.
Tadashi Endo~ younger brother; alive.
Satomi and Tadashi have a complicated relationship. When they were really young they were best friends, who did everything together. They loved each other more than anything else. When their parents died, it sort of put a barrier between them. Satomi took on a stricter sort of personality towards him, wanting to keep him safe and protected. He didn't like the fact that her powers dragged her away from home. They talk through letters mostly, but when they are together they won't leave each other alone.
Kaori Aoki~ grandmother; alive.
Satomi loves her grandmother, though they don't have a ton in common. She respects the path the woman paved, and understands the importance she contributed by losing her career to take care of her kids. Satomi isn't interested in much her grandmother is. Then again, when they're together they'll usually make something from her grandma's recipe book and chat.
Yuji Aoki~ grandfather; alive.
Satomi was always closer with her grandfather, as opposed to her grandmother. They had more in common, and have always been in a similar wave length. She still is close with him, and they still drink green tea together whenever she visits.
Michio Hayashi~ teacher/mentor; alive.
Michio has taught Satomi a lot in regards to both life and her powers. He believed in her when no one else did, and helped her to become the strong and intelligent girl she is now. He is there whenever she needs him, and encourages her to be a bit more open and friendly with others. She respects him immensely, and appreciates all he's done for her.
Hikaru Soma~ boyfriend; deceased.
Hikaru was a boy she'd met at the start of her first year in the academy. He and her became quite good friends quickly. They'd train together, and do whatever they could to help one another out. One thing led to another, and they began to date when she was 15, and he was 16.
Powers:
Satomi can manipulate light and darkness. She has two main abilities regarding her abilities.
The first is to sort of bend the darkness and light. She can absorb sunlight, or artificial light and it turns to something as hot as fire, and bright as the sun. She can control where it goes, so she can have it blind someone, or wrap someone in burning and inescapable heat.
She can do the same with darkness. Whether it's gained by the dusk, or shadows, she can engulf people in bleak nothingness. This mostly is used as a distraction, or to confuse the enemy. The darkness is freezing cold, and can leave wounds like hypothermia would if it hits your skin.
The second part of her abilities if the fact that she can make weapons out of light or dark. Generally it's a sword that she conjures up out of brightness and shadows. It act just as an other weapon, though not made from metal.
Drawbacks:
If she uses her powers for too long, she gets the worst migraine imaginable. It feels like her head could literally explode when she wields her powers excessively.
Her powers are powerful, which means they are draining. Fatigue will ensue if she uses them too much. There was a day she went of a mission, and she pushed her powers to the max by using them to keep someone blinded for a day, and then fighting a group. When this happened, she ended up in a coma for a week due to extreme exhaustion.
If she loses focus her powers will fail. She has to constantly be meticulous and precise, so her weapon doesn't dissolve mid-battle.
Strengths:
Agility. Satomi Endo is incredibly quick and light on her feet. She is swift with a sword, and in a sprint- and every other way you can think. Her reflexes are cat-like, and incredibly smooth.
Her powers are obviously a strength. No one can deny the uncanny and powerful aspects of her abilities. She can is quite used to them at this point, and is constantly working towards perfecting them.
Spirit, and mind. Satomi is a bright and wise girl, who has an innate sense about bad situations. She can rationalize just about any situation, and come up with a plan on the spot. She is also brave, and selfless as a leader, which helps in her battle. Then again, it can also make her quick to put herself in danger.
Weaknesses:
Her metal arm.(will be explained in backstory!)
Most days it isn't too had to deal with, the academy's doctors made sure of that. But there are times when it aches so unbearably that she cannot breath. There are also times when it can hinder her speed if she's fighting with weapons. Which is not great in a fast paced environment, when every movement needs to be calculated and perfect.
The people around her. It's well known that Satomi would put just about anyone before herself. When she does this, protects others, she can be an easy target because she's too preoccupied to watch her own back.
The drawbacks of her powers are quite obviously a weak point. They can greatly effect the outcome of a fight, and make or break her own safety.
Backstory:
Satomi had a relatively normal childhood when she was little. Two loving parents, two grandparents and a little brother who she adored all of. In fact, her home was picturesque and her family was beautiful and kind. Everything was wonderful until she was 12.
When she was 12, when her parents were killed in an accident. Satomi and her brother were sent to live with their grandparents after this. Somewhere during the five stages of grief, her powers began to make themselves known. She didn't tell anyone about them at first, but one fated afternoon she accidentally used them.
A kid tried to hit her on the playground, and suddenly darkness was swirling around him. One thing led to another, and when she turned 13 she was being shipped to 'Kiazen: School for the Gifted' to be trained with her powers and continue her other schooling.
Nothing too interesting happened during the first few years. Aside from her powers growing and her gaining strength and meeting a boy named Hikaru Soma.
The two were fast friends. They got along like they'd known each other for their entire lives. He helped her come out of her shell, and she helped him understand things he'd never thought about before. They balanced one another, and were best friends by every meaning.
He'd always make Satomi little paper cranes. It started as a joke, he'd leave them strange places for her to find. Then it turned into something sweeter. Whenever she was nervous or sad, he'd fold the most intricate cranes and ask her bunkmate to leave them on her desk. To let her know he was thinking about her. Generally, there were also messages written onto the paper. She could never bring herself to throw them out.
Eventually when they were 15, they fell for one another. There was a particular night when Satomi and him shared their first kiss. They'd snuck up to the roof of the academy on a night filled with snow and bright streets lamps. They'd gazed at the city below, with a blanket connecting their shoulders.
Hikaru had said something about the snow making him think of her. A memory the two shared when they first met, when they had to do outdoor training in the winter. He'd said he was lucky to have met her then, and couldn't picture life without her. Satomi hadn't been able to put into words how beautifully he'd phrased everything. Instead, she leaned in and kissed them.
After this, they officially started dating. This was also the time when Satomi started being sent on missions with kids older than her. She excelled at them, and every mission managed to go smoothly. She got rave reviews about her tactical abilities, and her fighting abilities.
Everything was perfect until she went on a mission that ended terribly. It was supposed to be an easy one, fool proof. Hikaru and a couple others joined Satomi on the mission. The problem? She was the only one who made it back, and the mission was anything besides easy.
They were supposed to go after one mam, a thief, and deliver him to a prison to be dealt with. Which they did. Satomi had to keep darkness around him in order to keep him unaware of where they were, and keep him from escaping. But he'd had people waiting to help him.
The academy hadn't known about the man's plans when they sent the kids on the mission. He had highly trained allies waiting to attack them, and when they did Satomi was already tired from keeping him restrained.
But she fought. The girl fought so hard to keep everyone safe, risking all she had to try and protect everyone. She couldn't in the end. The fight lasted for hours and hours, them fighting and trying to find an out.
One by one, the teenagers were killed. Until it was just Hikaru and Satomi, the original man and one of the enemies. The others were dead.
Satomi was fighting a man who also wielded a sword, and was doing well enough. Until she saw a dagger sink into Hikaru's stomach from the corner of her eye.
She lost her footing, which gave her opponent an opening to slice at her arm.
The blade crossed her skin in a carving motion, which was the most excruciating physical pain she'd ever felt. It was nowhere near the graveyard around her though. She could remember yelling out Tadashi's name and then everything went black.
Next thing she knew she was back at the academy with a stump where her arm used to be. The first thing she asked was if Tadashi had made it out, only to hear bad news.
She was crushed, depressed, devastated. But time went on, and she was forced to carry on with life with this new guilt. She was fitted for a metal arm, and was back to training tirelessly.
The first night she got the spend back in her bunk instead of the med wing, she found something in her room. On her desk, there was a folded up crane collecting dust. When she unfolded it, she realized Tadashi had made it before their mission and she'd not seen it. That was when she broke down sobbing.
She read over all his excited message, where he was happy to be going on a mission with her. Where he assured it was going to be fine, and safe and he was happy to spend time with her. She still welled up just seeing his slanted handwriting.
