SHORTENED PLOT

"The reconciliation of two old flames comes at a very tempting time for a struggling married couple. A supposed one time affair becomes increasingly messy as fate brings them into more and more complicated situations. While old feelings rise from the past, new ones form."

EXTENDED PLOT

They had been fighting again. It seemed to have become a regular habit in their household over the past year. Arguing over breakfast, arguing during their date nights (when they were still having them that is), arguing over the phone when Muse A was explaining that they had to work late again. More nights had been spent with one of them sleeping in a guest room than them both together. Months of dating, years of marriage, all of it coming to this. They didn't know what to do to fix it, neither one of them could communicate properly what they wanted. What they lacked. So Muse A was once again driving away from the house they shared with Muse B to go on a short work trip. Irritated and exhausted overall, they didn't stop until they reached the hotel they would be staying in for the next few days. It wasn't a surprise when they went down to the bar after checking in, even hours after the argument every single word that had been thrown at them was stinging like a fresh wound.

The real surprise was the person who was sitting at the bar. A blast from the past, Muse C looked almost identical to the way they looked in college, despite it having been over a decade ago. Muse A and Muse C locked eyes as they realized one another's presence. Both feeling a strange sense of Deja Vu washing over them as they recalled how they had similarly met one another as freshmen in college at their first frat party. That one night had led to many more nights of them together, all under the guise of friendship but they both knew it was more than that. It had always been more than that. They never saw anyone else during their stay in college, and frequently found each other wound up in one another's arms and subsequently each other's beds. Drawn to the old flame like a moth, Muse A struck up a conversation with their old friend.

The talk flowed so freely, so easily that Muse A found themselves not even wanting to drink anymore and only sharing a glass of wine with Muse C out of politeness. It was something that they had grown unaccustomed to over the past year, talking and actually being listened to. Not once in their conversation did the subject of Muse A getting married come up either, and because they were worried about losing their wedding ring on business trips like this, it was absent from their left hand. It was obvious the way Muse C intended for things to go, by the way they started touching Muse A's shoulder, flirting and teasing them the same way they used to. They should have said no, they had a spouse waiting for them at home but they couldn't bring themselves to. Even when Muse C offered to go up to Muse A's room and have a quick session just like they 'used to'.

The night came and went, Muse A woke up alone without any sign of Muse C having been there. None of the clothing they had ripped off them, not even a stray earring being left behind. No note or even a new number to contact them with. It seemed Muse C wanted to keep it as a one off. Which was fine by Muse A, seeing as it would make things easier for them. They continued on with their business trip, all while the feelings of what they had just done came slamming down onto their shoulders. The drive back home was when they felt the guiltiest. They had to tell them, it would kill Muse B if they found out later on their own. Muse A walked into the house, dead set on explaining what had happened, no excuses. Prepared for yet another argument, and most likely a mention of divorce. That's what they wanted to do anyway. But Muse B had different plans.

They were sick and tired of fighting with their spouse every time they breathed around one another. Sick and tired of feeling nothing but exhaustion thinking about their arguments, all of their issues, and Muse A coming home. But they still loved their spouse. Muse B wouldn't have said all of those vows if they didn't want to love them unconditionally. They wanted to make it through this rough patch, one bad year compared to all of the happy years they spent together, plus all of the years they could be looking forward to? No, they weren't going to give up. Muse B spent the entirety of their spouse's business trip calling up different counselors, trying to find the perfect one for them. Once they did they arranged to have a meeting with them a month from now, it wouldn't fix everything instantly. But it was a start. Wasn't it?

Muse A couldn't tell Muse B. Not when it was so evident they wanted to fix their relationship, something they had thought they only wanted to do. They didn't know that Muse B was also sick and tired of yelling, fighting, everything. They were going to turn over a new leaf. Yeah. Start counseling in a month, see how things go from there. Every minute from that day going forward was a new leaf for them, the short, emotionless hours they had spent with Muse C was irrelevant now. Wasn't it? Yes, it was. That's what Muse A had to keep telling themselves.

A month went by, they still scuffed up a little bit every now and then, while they waited to get seen by the professional. But there was a clear effort happening now, from both parties. Muse A didn't use work as an excuse to avoid home as much and Muse B tried their best to understand how much stress their spouse had to be under. Finally, the day of the meeting came around. Muse A had texted their spouse to come and meet them at the office so they could ride to the appointment together. All they had to do was take in a short interview before they could go. Muse B agreed, bringing a small basket with lunch in it for them to share maybe at the office or the ride over to the therapist. Muse B arrived in clearly high spirits, something Muse A's secretary was very unused to, normally seeing the person crying or screaming at the office. The secretary led Muse B into Muse A's office, handing over the pamphlet that held the resume of who they would be interviewing in it. Instead of reading it and ignoring their spouse though, Muse A took it and flipped it upside down onto the desk. They could scan over it during the interview.

Muse B held up the little basket with a wide grin before going over to Muse A's desk and setting it on-top. Their eyes were easily drawn to the large photograph of them on the wall as they embraced. It was of them on their wedding day. Happy, dressed in white, clueless to the future. "Do you think we'll be happy like that again Love?" Muse B whispered softly, in response Muse A nodded. "Of course." The two broke apart at the sound of a knock at the door, the secretary saying that Muse A's interviewee had arrived early. Muse B went to leave, knowing that Muse A had strict rules about their office and whom business matters occurred in front of. But Muse A stopped them softly, nodding to the chair behind their desk for them to go sit down in. "This won't take long." They promised, swiping the papers off the desk before turning to the door. "Tell them to come in." They called out, glancing down at the papers for the first time, feeling their heart stop when they read the name and seconds later Muse C came through the doors smiling.

ROLEPLAY NOTES

Please, someone (or someones ;) ), do this with me. I beg of you <3

Also I do have an idea where Muse B has a friend/ex-boss/neighbor that is very obviously (maybe even obsessively) interested in them, to spice things up even more.

There will be lots of spice I promise ya.

Maybe, for extra drama, Muse A could have admitted to having a short affair to Muse B during their month long wait for the therapist, but they decided to still work things out.
