76|midnight

Almost halfway through the season and I've only been able to get 4 chapters out of it so far omg. I apologise, I honestly don't know why. I think most of the important stuff happens in the second half anyway, but we'll see.

I'll still write the epilogue I spoke about writing anyway to make up for the shorter part

——————————

We didn't waste any time, all of us heading out of the McCall house and heading to the Sheriff Station. Scott, Lydia, Liam and the girl took Lydia's car while Isaac, Malia and I went in my car since Isacc had driven it here.

As we walked into the Sheriff Station, I tied a knot in the bottom of the shirt I was wearing to look so baggy. Since my shirt - one of the ones I actually liked, mind you - now had a hole in it and was covered in scarlet blood, Isaac had been kind enough to lend me one of his shirts. However, since he was almost twice my size it didn't exactly sit right on me. Either way, it was better than my ruined shirt.

"What's wrong now?" the Sheriff sighed as we all walked into his office with Parrish leading the way, going to stand by his boss.

"Those two kids you've got in lockup - Sheriff, you need to let them out," Scott told the man.

Sheriff Stilinski gave him a perplexed look, "And why would I do that, Scott?"

"Because they're in danger,"

"They're in a police station. That's one of the safest places they could be," the Sheriff countered. "I'm not letting them out. We've got two bodies covered in slash marks. They confessed to killing two people."

"Hunters," Scott corrected.

"People, Scott," the Sheriff said right back. "Self-defense or not, they're still here, the other guys are dead. And there's a process I have to follow."

Scott wasn't about to give up though, persistent as ever.
"Yeah, but you know what's happening around here. It's not safe for them."

"Again, this may actually be the safest place for them in Beacon Hills," the Sheriff reminded Scott once more. "At least I can protect them here."

We all shared a look, knowing something that the Sheriff didn't about what was going on under his own roof.
"No disrespect, Noah, but given the circumstances, we could probably protect them a bit better," I said carefully. "I think Stiles would agree."

"Especially since one of your Deputies is working for Gerard," Malia tacked on, not bothering to ease the Sheriff into the shocking reveal.

The Sheriff thought for less than a second before shaking his head at the were coyote, "I'm not buying that."

"Why not?" I asked. "You've met Gerard. He has a way of manipulating people."

"I don't care," he replied, shaking his head again. "I know these Deputies like the back of my hand. I know their families, their kids, their brothers and sisters. I know who they are and I trust them."

"You know who they were," Liam corrected.

Isaac nodded, "Anyone could turn on us at this point. There's something out there, and it's worse than any gunfight we've got going on."

"Everyone's afraid and it's getting worse."

"Yeah, you can't protect two werewolves from hunters if they're already on the inside," Scott told the Sheriff calmly, trying not to sound like he was insulting the man's ability to do his job.

The Sheriff fell silent, finally appearing to be listening and actually hearing what we were saying. I understood why he was hesitant though - to be told that someone who you trusted with your life wasn't who you thought they were, it can come as a rather nasty shock.

Leaning to the side, the Sheriff glanced past us all to look at the girl who had shown up at Scott's house who was sitting in the corner of the room.
"It's Quinn, right?"

The young werewolf looked up from her fingers, nodding as she saw everyone staring at her. She looked like she had almost completely healed from her injuries, which was good. From what I heard of her story, she was lucky to be alive.

"You're sure it was a Deputy who shot you?" The Sheriff asked, most likely hoping that she said no. "Absolutely, 100 per cent sure?"

Quinn took a moment, maybe a bit nervous to tell the Sheriff the truth, before nodding again.
"I saw flashing lights. A police car. I. . . saw a badge, a gun, and then they shot me. They shot me in the head and that's all that I remember."

The Sheriff's head dropped before he let out a heavy breath. Straightening back up, he turned to Scott, "There are a couple of holes in her story."

"Maybe because there's a hole in her head," Lydia said quite snarkily.

"She beat me to it by one second," Isaac hissed while Malia burst out laughing.

When everyone turned to her with wide eyes, Malia gave us all a confused look, before frowning. "I'm sorry."

Scott just shook his head, putting us back on topic. "Sheriff, we need to get Jiang and Tierney out of here before anyone realises that they are here."

"And take them where?" The Sheriff almost snapped. "I can't let them go."

Lydia huffed, "But if you keep them here, they're-"

The Sheriff held a hand up, cutting Lydia off, "Look, if there's a problem-"

He didn't get the chance to finish what he was saying as the sound of an explosion caught everyone's attention. Glancing over to the blinds, we could see a bright light shining through, which was quite concerning considering that it was dark outside.

I walked over to the blinds and carefully peered through a couple of the slats. My heart sunk as I turned back to everyone to report, "It's that crazy bitch, Monroe."

The Sheriff walked out to the main section of the station, waving his Deputies back. "Get away from the windows. Put those guns away."

"If Riley is right and that's Monroe out there, they'll be armed to the teeth," Parrish pointed out to his boss.

"Which is why I won't be," the Sheriff said as he removed his gun from his belt and placed it down on the nearest desk.

I pushed past my friends to get to the man. "Noah, you can't go out there without a weapon."

"I need to show them some trust, or we might as well just accept the loss now, Riley," the Sheriff told me.

"This woman isn't going to care, she's hellbent on killing us all and I'm honestly starting to worry that she might actually pull it off considering that I was dying less than an hour ago," I blurted out, my anxiety getting the better of me.

"You were what?" the Sheriff asked with wide eyes. My mouth stumbled for words for a moment, before his lips pursed.
"We'll be talking about this later."

"Yes, Sheriff," I said quietly, feeling like I was a teenager getting in trouble again. I just hoped he didn't tell Stiles. I would tell him eventually, but not until I got back to Washington.

As the Sheriff went to leave, Parrish prepared to follow. "I'm going with you."

The Sheriff immediately turned the man down, talking to him quietly so none of his other Deputies would overhear.
"No, you're gonna get some Deputies, check the exits, and hope we're not completely surrounded. And keep an eye out. Let's make sure we're all on the same side here."

This seemed to make Parrish anxious, the man looking around at his fellow Deputies. Although, he can't have been too thrown considering that one of the Deputies had lit him on fire once.

The Sheriff proceeded to walk out the door, hands up to show that he was unarmed. Everyone in the station stood with bated breath, waiting to see what would happen.

Parrish didn't exactly do as he was told, walking over to the door and lifting part of the blind so that he could see through. When he heard one of the Deputies go to unsheath his gun, he was quick to tell the man to keep it holstered. The Deputy didn't look happy to comply but did as he was told.

The Pack had all retreated into the Sheriff's office so that we were away from the Deputies. Until we knew who we could trust, it was just safer this way.

We all stood at the windows, daring to peek through to watch the Sheriff. I was about to focus my hearing so that I could listen in on the conversation between the Sheriff and Monroe when I caught wind of a different sound.

Turning around, I saw Malia stepping back from the window and breathing rather heavily. Lowering the section of the blind I had been holding up, I went over to her and placed a hand on her arm. "Hey, are you alright?"

"No, I'm not, Ri," she answered quickly, shaking her head. "We need to get out of here."

"Noah know what he's doing. I'm sure he'll be able to come up with something. Just give him a chance," I tried to reassure her.

"I am giving him a chance," Malia responded. "He can talk all her wants, but we have to get the hell out of here."

At this point, everyone in the room was facing the were coyote. We could all see the fear clear on her face - I don't think I had ever seen her so frightened. Malia was usually the one to be unbothered by things like this, so I was definitely beginning to feel on edge if she was worried if she was worried.

"How do we get Jiang and Tierney out?" Liam asked her.

"Screw them. It's Stilinski's job."

"But it's our job to keep them alive," Scott reminded her as the door opened.

As if this situation couldn't get any worse, Theo Raeken walked in. I hadn't seen him since the night we had defeated the Ghost Riders. I had just figured he had left town but apparently, he was back also.

"Not mine," Theo stated as he walked in.

"Do you want me to kill him?" Liam snapped, not even hesitating as he began to walk towards Theo.

Isaac quickly grabbed the young Beta's arm and pulled hpulledim back before he could do something stupid. "While I'm sure we all want to, now isn't really the time or place."

As Theo rolled his eyes, Malia nodded and pointed to the door. "Can we please just go?"

"We're not going anywhere," Quinn said, breaking her short silence. "Don't you get it? We're trapped. They have all of the windows and doors covered. We're going to die in here."

"Does someone want to kill her?" Theo asked, pointing over at Quinn.

"Shut up!" Malia growled, stalking towards Theo.

I quickly went over and stepped in between her and the chimera, getting my sister's attention. "We're going to be alright. We've made it out of worse, so I need you to pull yourself together, Mal."

"I'm fine," she tried to assure me, but I could hear the slight tremble in her voice.

Moving my hand down from her arm, I grabbed onto her hand. I gave it a gentle squeeze, letting her know that I was going to be right there with her the whole time.

"Guys, there's only a dozen of them out there. We can take them," Lydia stated rather bravely.

Before the True Alpha could even respond, Liam was cutting in, "Scott, they're the last of Satomi's pack. We can't leave them behind.

Scott looked at us all to see if we were all on the same page. When we all gave silent nods, he sighed and nodded also. "Okay. We go. But Jiang and Tierney are coming with us."

Liam gave his Alpha a look of appreciation. After losing both Brett and Lori in the one night, he wasn't about to just let the rest of Satomi's pack be killed off.

I walked over to the Sheriff's desk and unlocked the safe, retrieving the key card. Normally I wouldn't know something like the code to his safe, but Stiles had let us in on it when he had given Scott the keys before we had left for Washington. After I handed the card to Liam, the Beta ran off down the hall to let Jiang and Tierney out of the holding cell.

"So, how exactly are we going to do this?" I asked the rest of the Pack.

Isaac shrugged, "Including Jiang and Tierney, we've got eight with claws, plus you and Lydia. It shouldn't be too hard."

"We have to be careful though," Scott warned. "They have to be the first to throw a punch. If we instigate a fight, then we're the ones in the wrong."

"Scott, they're going to try and pin us as the ones in the wrong either way and considering you have claws and glowing eyes, I think I know who the public will be more inclined to believe," I told him honestly.

He pursed his lips, "It doesn't matter. We can't prove them right."

We all left the Sheriff's office side-by-side, heading over and waiting by the door. It didn't take long for Liam to retrieve Jiang and Tierney thankfully, or we might have changed our minds about trying to leave.

"You ready?" Scott asked us all.

Lydia nodded, Malia growled with her fangs bared and Liam and Isaac prepared their claws. When Scott looked his way, Theo rolled his eyes before flicking his wrist and bring his claws out also. I felt my eyes begin to glow as I drew energy towards myself, nodding to my best friend.

Just as we were about to open the door, Parrish reentered the room.
"Nobody's going anywhere."

"I can get through them," Lydia responded. It was crazy how far she had come with her ability. She used to be so scared of it, and now she was using it and manipulating it like a pro.

"We're not gonna fire the first shot," the Sheriff instructed.

I held up a hand to get his attention, "We know. We weren't planning to. The claws are just a precaution, you know?"

The Sheriff shook his head. "No claws. No precautions. Now, get back from the door. All of you. Parrish, get these two back in their cell. Riley, let Stiles know that I will be changing the code on my safe."

"Roger that," I sighed as I walked up to the man with Scott at my side.

"What happened?" The Alpha asked as Parrish took the remainder of Satomi's pack back to the holding cells.

"She gave us 'til midnight," he answered, not appearing confident in the slightest.

"An ultimatum? Seriously?" I scoffed.

"Yes, seriously. I still want to set up some barricades against the doors though in case she doesn't keep her word."

Scott offered to take care of that for the Sheriff, getting some of the boys from the pack to give him a hand. I went to go and find Lydia who had mentioned something about the radio when I felt a hand on my arm.

Turning around, I saw it was the Sheriff. "Everything okay, Noah?"

"I didn't realise you were back in town," he stated.

Pursing my lips, I nodded, "Yeah, sorry. I was going to come and see you but things have been a bit hectic, obviously."

"I was hoping you and Stiles wouldn't get mixed up in all of this again," he sighed.

"I know," I said quickly. "That's why I haven't told him the real reason I came home."

"Then I'm sure you also know that he won't be happy when he finds out."

"Well, he'll be alive, and that's all I care about," I informed him. "And please don't tell him about the whole 'nearly dying' thing. I'm going to tell him. . . just not yet."

The man seemed hesitant but ended up nodding. "Alright. But Riley, I don't like keeping secrets from my son."

"Neither do I," I assured him. "But I'm not going to risk losing him again. I'd rather him mad at me for a week than seeing him hurt."

"And what do you think he'll say when he finds out you were the one who got hurt."

"I'll heal," I shrugged.

The Sheriff shook his head, "You can't just hope for the best every time, Riley. This is the real world, healing abilities or not."

It was clear he still thought about when we had all been forced to forget Stiles also. Before I got the chance to respond to him, the power in the station suddenly went out. Everyone murmured amongst themselves nervously, most of the Deputies placing a hand on their firearm cautiously. So much for giving us until midnight.

"Morrow," the Sheriff called out as one of his Deputies started to walk towards the door. "Morrow!" he said more firmly when the woman didn't respond.

She turned around quickly, he eyes wide in shock. She seemed in edge, but that wasn't much different to nearly everyone in here.

"Get away from the window," he instructed.

Morrow nodded, not verbally replied as she stepped back. Maybe she had wanted to see if she could spot Monroe out there and try and figure out what she might be up to. Hell, I was half-tempted myself.

But I knew it wasn't the right move. The people out there were afraid of us and they had guns and that wasn't a great combination. I ended up coming back to the same thought; what would Stiles do?

Sure, a lot of the time his plans were half-baked, but compared to everyone else here, his had the highest success rate.

"How easy is it to cut the power in the Sheriff's station?" Malia asked the Sheriff.

Before he could answer, one of the Deputies did so for him. "Too easy," Deputy Vargas announced as she threw someone down to the floor, bolt cutters in her hands. Apparently, this was our culprit.

"Throw him out," Liam said immediately, clearly recognising the boy.

The boy's eyes widened as he pulled himself to sit up, voice stammering, "N-no, you can't. Okay? Please don't. She'll know I screwed up."

"He's with them."

"Liam," Scott said with a somewhat harsh edge.

"I think I might be with Liam on this one, Scott," Isaac said. "I mean, him disappointing that psycho isn't really our problem. How do we know this isn't a trick?"

"It's not," the boy insisted, looking truly scared. He was either a decent actor, or he really didn't want to disappoint Monroe.

"Sheriff?" Parrish asked, facing the person in the room who had the final say.

Liam scowled, "He's a liar and he's sick in the head."

Most of the pack was watching Liam, all of us surprised by how harsh he was being. There had to be more to the story.

The man thought for a second as he stared down at the boy, weighing his options.
"And now he's under arrest. Lock him up."

Parrish nodded, walking over and dragging the boy to his feet before leading him towards the holding cells.

Once he was gone, I turned to my friends, the situation with the lights not instilling any hope in me. "Now what?"

"We stand our ground. We still have a few hours to find a way to get you all out of here safely," the Sheriff said.

Isaac shook his head, "Sheriff, they just sent in a kid to take out the lights and we don't know what they'll try next. Do you really think standing around is the best course of action?"

"Unless you want to become everything they say you are, then yes, we will continue to show some respect to the deal we made," the Sheriff responded firmly.

However smart and brave his words were, they were dampened only moments later when Parrish was yelling for everyone to get down.

Isaac and I ducked side-by-side, arms above our heads as a smoke grenade went off in the centre of the station. After giving it a minute to settle we all began to stand up slowly, looking around through the now smoke-filled room.

"What was that?" Malia asked.

Scott's eyes widened in that moment as he stated it was a distraction.

"They said midnight!" The Sheriff shouted angrily, preparing to walk right out the door and have a word with Monroe.

Parrish was quick to sop him, however, speaking to his boss in a hushed tone. "The grenade came from in here. It was one of us."

Liam was standing by us all a moment later with the boy who Vargas had found, holding up a vial. "Wolfsbane. He was trying to kill them."

"I told you," Isaac stated. "I said it might be a trap. No one listens to me."

"Because usually you're wrong," I informed him.

Liam didn't bother leaving Isaac time to answer as he spoke to the Alpha. "Scott, there's something else you need to see."

My friend looked down to me, and I waved him off. "Go, we'll stay out here with the Sheriff."

Scott pursed his lips, nodding before following Liam to the holding cells.
