CHAPTER TWENTY [SEASON THREE]

Sam's Outfit

"I love weddings!" I gushed as we sat down at the church pews.

"Ah so do I!" Lydia replied, sliding in next to me.

"I don't. Especially when it's my ex getting married to a less cute me", Penelope said.

"I'm here for the food and for moral support", Schneider said.

"No. Earlier you said you were excited to see Victor marry low-fi Penelope", I said.

Victor, Alex, and Elena took their places at the altar as the music began.

Alex smiled at me and I smiled back. He looked so cute in that suit!

People began walking down the aisle, and shortly after the ceremony began.

Even though I had virtually no connection to either the bride or the groom, I teared up during the vows and stuff because sometimes I'm too emotional for my own good.

Once the ceremony was over it was the cocktail hour, where very one just kinda walked around and talked to each other.

I stayed next to Alex the whole time since I didn't know anyone.

"I hate this part", Alex said to me.

"Same. At least you know people though", I said.

"Do I though? I haven't seen any of them in two years, I mean I have a mustache now", he said.

I burst out laughing, "No you don't!"

"Shut up. I shave it", he said.

"Sure, we'll go with that", I replied, rolling my eyes.

More people walked by and talked to Alex. I have to admit, even though I hated stuff like that, I did enjoy Alex introducing me to all these people as his girlfriend.

Once they were gone, Alex and I took a seat at the table where we'd be sitting with Penelope, Elena, Lydia, Schneider, and Dr. B.

"Hey! Will you dance with me later?" I asked Alex.

"Sure. If you can pull me away from Abuelita", he replied.

I laughed, "Yeah, that may be difficult. I hope they play some good music", I said.

"Sammie, I'm just gonna break it to you now. There's no way that they'll play anything by FINNEAS", Alex said.

I sighed, "Yeah, I know. No event will ever have music as good as my Bat Mitzvah".

"Oh yeah because I'm sure everyone really loved dancing to the soundtrack of Mean Girls", Alex replied sarcastically.

I laughed, "Shut up! Your grandmother absolutely loved dancing to 'Revenge Party' so freaking fight me".

Once everyone else sat down, dinner began and the food was GOOD. Like so good that I almost made myself sick with eating so much.

Then it was time for the toasts. Alex and Elena both gave really cute toasts, but I could tell that with Elena's she had wanted to say more.

Once Elena was done with hers, she shook her head and walked off.

"I'm gonna go talk to her", Alex said. I followed, and we found Elena in in the chapel.

"Are you okay, Elena?" I asked.

"I completely hated my toast",she said.

"What do you mean? It was really cute, and it seemed like everyone liked it", I said.

"It's not that. There's just more I wanted to say, but I didn't since it's his wedding and I didn't want to be rude", she said.

"Well, try it out on us. That way you can get out everything you want to say", Alex said.

She stood up hesitantly and walked to the front of the room.

"Hi everyone. I'm Elena Alvarez. You may remember me as the girl that got abandoned by her dad during the father-daughter dance at her quinces. Hi, how you doing?" She said, waving at the fake audience.

"Papi, I know you're trying but that doesn't erase all the bad stuff that has happened, and everything isn't okay just yet. And today, I had to worry about making sure everybody wasn't uncomfortable, and saying nice things about you, and me showing up for you on your big day when you weren't there for me on mine! The bigger person here shouldn't have to be the kid...anyways, Nicole seems great so congrats!" She finished her speech.

"It's a good thing that that wasn't your toast", Alex said.

We all laughed and Elena wrapped both Alex and I in a hug.

We went back into the reception, and it looked like the dancing had finally started. Of course, Lydia was out there dancing.

Alex and I sat down and watched the people dancing.

"Do you think they let people request songs?" I asked.

"I doubt it. I mean, what if someone requests a song that absolutely sucks?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, you're right", I said.

After dessert was served, some familiar music rang out. It was the song that Elena had used for the father-daughter dance, and there standing on the dance floor, was Victor.

Victor had staged a redo for the quinces father-daughter dance. Elena joined him on the dance floor, and it was super sweet.

I was super happy for Elena, and since I'm me I teared up a little during their dance.

Once they were done dancing, we all kind of just sat back and ate cake.

Then, another familiar song came on. Everything Has Changed by Ed Sheehan and Taylor Swift.

"Well you dance with me, Sammie?" Alex asked.

I nodded and we walked to the dance floor.

"Remember this was our first dance?" I said.

"Yeah, at Elena's quinces. That's why I told my Papi to make sure that the DJ played it", he said.

I smiled. I can't believe that it had been two years since our frost dance together. That had been one of my favorite days ever, and was one I'd the first times that I'd realized how much I love Alex.

"Thank you, Alex. I love this", I said.

"I love you, Sammie", he said.

"I love you too. More than anything", I replied.

While everything had changed between Alex and I over the years, the one thing that would never change was how much I loved him.
