CHAPTER FIVE// [SEASON TWO]
Today, I was going to try on Bat Mitzvah dresses and finally choose one to wear, and I was kind of dreading it.
I was in the car with Schneider, Alex, and my friend Dana from dance class on my way to the Nordstrom in the mall. This wouldn't be my first dress search, however. I'd gone twice before with Dana, but we'd ended up goofing off and trying on the ugliest dresses we could find.
This time, we'd be more prepared. I'd picked five dresses I liked on the store's website before we went and I called the store and asked them to put aside those dresses in my size, so I could try them on.
As soon as we got in the mall parking lot, it began to rain. Great. Schneider ended up pulling up to the door and dropping Alex, Dana, and I off.
As soon as we walked in, we went up on the escalator to the women's dress department in Nordstrom.
The sales associate led me to a really nice fitting room area, and left my dress rack outside the door of the fitting room I chose. Outside the fitting room, there was a little platform surrounded by mirrors where you could see yourself in the dress from different angles. There was also a little pink couch, where Alex and Dana sat so they could see each of my dress options.
I grabbed the first dress off of the rack and brought it into the room with me. I put it on, and I instantly didn't like it. It was way shorter and tighter than it looked on the hanger, and it just seemed too old for me.
I walked out and showed Dana and Alex anyway, because I promised I'd show them.
"Is that from the Kardashian collection?", Dana asked as soon as she saw me.
"Ughh, no. I know it's terrible. I look like I'm going clubbing. What do you think?", I asked, turning to Alex.
"Too much cleavage", he replied jokingly.
"Eyes up here, perv", I said, teasing him.
I grabbed the next dress off of the rack and went back in the fitting room. As soon as the dress touched my skin, I knew I didn't like it. It was made of a thick, almost burlap material. I also didn't like the look of it.
I walked out to show Alex and Dana, and as soon as I saw their faces, I knew they didn't like it either.
"You look like you're wearing a sack", Dana said.
"It doesn't look comfortable. I mean, can you sit down in it?", Alex asked.
"Let's find out!", I said.
I sat on the couch next to Dana, and while I could sit, it just wasn't comfortable.
I grabbed the next dress off of the rack and went into the fitting room.
This dress was definitely more comfortable than the past two, but I don't know how I felt about the way it looked.
I walked out to see what my friends thought.
"I love it!" Dana exclaimed.
"Really?"
"Yes!"
"What do you think, Alex?", I asked, turning to him.
"I don't like it that much. It's too busy", he said.
"I think I agree", I said.
I grabbed the next dress off of the rack and went into the fitting room.
It was probably my favorite so far, but I didn't like how the top of it was kinda see through. I don't know how I'd wear any type of bra with it, without it completely showing through and making me look like an idiot.
"What do you think? I'd obviously wear it with my bright pink bra showing through like I am right now", I said sarcastically.
"Oh yes, the bra just adds to the whole look. Nothing says, "It's my Bat Mitzvah, I'm becoming a woman" like showing off your whole bra to everyone", Dana replied equally sarcastically.
Alex said, "I like it better than the other ones, but I still don't think it's the one".
I grabbed the last dress off of the rack and said, "If this one sucks, I'm going to cry".
I then went into the fitting room and put it on. I waited until I walked out to look at it in the three full length mirrors, and I instantly loved it.
"That's the one, Sam", Dana said.
Alex looked up from his phone, and his entire face lit up.
"Sammie, you look beautiful ", he said.
Schneider ruined the moment when he burst into the fitting room area and said, "I finally found a parking spot!"
"Hey, I gotta go. My mom's outside. She's picking me up to go get my braces off" Alex said.
"Aww, we were all gonna go get dessert at the Cheesecake Factory. You sure you can't ditch your appointment?", I asked.
"You're just jealous I'm getting my braces off before you, Sam. Take note of this smile, because you aren't going to see it with braces ever again after this", Alex said, smiling.
"Whatever, loser. Have fun at the ortho", I said, rolling my eyes jokingly.
"Nice to meet you, Alex", Dana said.
"Bye!", Alex said, getting up and leaving the store.
As soon as he was gone, Dana nudged my side and said, "First of all, you're getting that dress. Second of all, it's obvious that you two like each other".
"He does not like me back!", I said.
"Oh please. I saw the way he looked at you. And the way you two joke around? It's absolutely adorable, and if you two don't end up dating at some point, I will be seriously surprised", Dana replied.
I honestly forgot Schneider was there until he said, "I've thought that for years!".
Author's Note: I hope you enjoyed this! The whole dress picking out thing was inspired by that one episode of Andi Mack when Cyrus took Jonah with him to pick out s suit for his Bar Mitzvah. The next chapter is coming, but may be delayed because I still haven't done my AP homework :/
