CHAPTER ELEVEN [SEASON FOUR]
Sam's Outfit
It had been almost two weeks since I'd seen Alex or even spent any time with his family. I missed him a lot, and just wished that we could go back to the way things were before. Sometimes I felt myself wishing that we hadn't dated at all, just so we could go back to being best friends again. But at the end of the day, all I wanted is to go back to being his girlfriend and spending time with him.
I'd gone on a date with Zach, but it just wasn't fun at all.
I mean, he's nice and all, but there's just not as much chemistry between him and I as there was between Alex and I. It was just super uncomfortable to be honest.
"Hey guys!" I said rushing into the Alvarez's apartment.
"Sammie! How are you?" Penelope said, hugging me.
"I'm doing good", I smiled.
"I feel like I haven't seen you in forever", she said.
"Yeah... I've kind of been keeping my distance, ya know with Alex having a new girlfriend and all", I said.
"He didn't tell you?" Penelope asked.
"Tell me what?" I questioned.
"He broke up with Nora about a week ago", Penelope said.
"Woah, he did?" I gasped.
I sat at the table as Lydia and Penelope were doing something in the kitchen.
"Should I go talk to Alex? What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he's mad at me still?" I said, panicking slightly.
"There's no way he wouldn't talk to you", Lydia said.
"Go talk to him, honey", Penelope said.
I nodded, and got up and walked to Alex's room.
I knocked softly on his door.
"Alex, it's me", I said.
He opened his door and I walked into his room.
"Woah! How did you get anymore fucking tall? It's only been two weeks!" I said.
To be honest, I kinda loved that he was so much taller than me now, but I needed something to try and break the tension between us.
I hated awkwardness, so I usually tried to stop things from being awkward....by being more awkward if we're being honest.
"What's up Sammie? I know you didn't come in here just to talk to me about my height", Alex said.
"So, I heard that you and Nora broke up", I said.
"Yeah. I just realized that I don't like her like that", Alex said.
"Really?" I asked.
Alex nodded, "She was fun to hang out with, but sometimes she'd just make these super bitchy comments out of nowhere. I didn't like it", he said.
"I hate her. No offense since you dated her, but there's just always been something off about her", I said.
"And I realize that now. You were right not to like her in the first place. I put up with her saying bitchy things for so long, but then last week, we were in my room doing homework and she started looking at the collage you made me. The whole time she was looking at it, she was just saying a bunch of mean shit, and I couldn't take it anymore", Alex said.
"Aww, you still had my collage up?" I smiled.
"Only because there were some really good pictures of me on there", Alex said.
"Sure..." I said.
And just like that, the awkwardness between us was gone.
It felt like no time had passed at all. We were best friends again, simple as that. We sprawled out in his room and watched some TV on his laptop for awhile. Even though we weren't really doing much of anything, it was just nice to be around him again. I'd missed him more than I'd realized.
"So, are we a couple again?" I asked.
"I don't know. Do you want to be?" Alex asked.
"Can we just take things slow? Stay friends for now, and see how things go?" I suggested.
"Sure. Just friends", Alex said.
We sat in his room and watched a few more episodes of Brooklyn 99, before it had started to get dark out and I realized that I had to go do my homework if I wanted any chance of falling asleep before 2 am.
"Hey, do you want your locket back?" Alex asked.
"You still have it?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's on my dresser. Just seeing it sitting there is making me sad", Alex said.
"I'll take it back then", I said.
"I'll put it on you", Alex said, grabbing it off his dresser and putting it on me.
"Thanks", I said softly.
"Of course", Alex replied.
"Well...I'll see you later", I said awkwardly, suddenly realizing how....romantic that moment felt.
"Yup, see you at school tomorrow", he said awkwardly, as I left his room.
Just Friends? There's no way that could stick, I can practically guarantee it.
