Chapter 32
Kyra
I could easily say that by far, this was one of my most favourite and memorable birthday's ever.
The day had been absolutely amazing so far, but good things don't last long. Me and Reyansh were invited to the Oberoi Mansion for the Post wedding + Inheritance revelation + Birthday Dinner.
I didn't want to go there and ruin the remainder of the day, I was enjoying living in this temporary fairy tale bubble of mine. But it was time for the bubble to burst and we had to go to the Dinner.
Krish was not invited, that really irked me. Therefore, Krish insisted on returning back home as didn't want to intrude on the private family dinner. But upon my unrelenting insistence he agreed and we headed to the Oberoi Mansion.
I could get the vibe that even Reyansh wasn't too keen to be here and in actuality, nor did I want him to meet my family.
Things between him and me were going so well and I didn't want to ruin it, by having everyone in the same room, together.
I know that my family had done something horrible to the Kapoor family. I just didn't know what exactly, yet. But I knew Reyansh still had vengeance on his mind and once he set his mind on something he would achieve it at all costs. After all he had promised to break my marriage contract with Abhay and vowed to marry me, before my birthday and he had achieved the impossible.
Any secret plans of approaching and asking Reyansh's grandpa about the past, was out of the question. He barely remembered his own name, let alone their family history. It also seemed like Krish was unaware about the family secrets and trauma.
We arrived in the mansion and met everyone and I introduced Krish to my Grandmother, my father, my mother, and my aunt. I realised that Surprisingly stepping into Reyansh's house had given me more of a warm homely feel, than my own house did.
They congratulated us on our marriage and wished me for my birthday. For our marriage present, Reyansh and I were given a beach facing villa in the Hamptons, USA.
For my Birthday present's, - my grandma gave me her traditional and antique Gold Wedding set. It was heavy and gorgeous. My aunt reluctantly came forward and gifted me a designer gown. Lastly, My father handed me the ownership deed to the biggest Penthouse in the most expensive Apartment complex, in the city - "The Elite Enclave".
He said, "As the name suggests, it's a Penthouse for the Elite. I know the current building you're staying in, it's a dump. You'll not be able to adjust in such a small and dingy apartment. You can move into the Penthouse and take your new husband with you, if you want. This gift is from your mother and me."
Reyansh clenched his fists and jaw, I know he was barely controlling his anger and even Krish looked visibly annoyed, at what my father said.
I quickly came to the defence of my new home and family and said, "Father, while I thank you for the Penthouse. I respectfully reject it. I am more than happy and comfortable in my new house with my new family. The one day that I've spent in that apartment with Reyansh and Krish, has given me more happiness, satisfaction and warmth that I've felt in a long-long time."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Krish, give Reyansh a huge smile, who in-turn nodded and gave him a small smile.
Father was angry at my answer, but he simply said, "Whatever, use it or don't. The Penthouse is in your name."
We then sat around the dinning table and had our meal in a tense and uncomfortable environment, very unlike my previous meals of the day. Once the Dinner was done, we all gathered in the living room for the main reason we had come, to meet with the Lawyer to discuss my inheritance and Grandfather's Will.
The Lawyer directly got down to Business and said, "Now that Ms. Kyra Oberoi is-
Reyansh interrupted and said, "It's Mrs. Kyra Oberoi-Kapoor." My face heated at his authoritative tone.
The Lawyer looked up to say something to Reyansh for interrupting him, but Reyansh's expression made him weary and he then cleared his throat and restarted.
"As I was saying, now that Mrs. Kyra Oberoi-Kapoor is married, that too before her 24th Birthday, it's within the stipulation of the Will. Finally, now the Late. Mr Oberoi's Last and Final Will can be Openly read and it's contents disclosed to the Oberoi's."
He read out, the following;
This Will can be accessed only upon Kyra's marriage before her 24th Birthday. Hence if this Will is being read, the above stipulation has been adhered to and now the division of my assets can be revealed to my Family. 80% control of the business is held within the family and 20% by outside Parties. Therefore my assets and the Business will be divided accordingly.
1) Firstly, to my Wife - Mrs. Oberoi. I leave the Oberoi Mansion, my personal Bank accounts, as well as, all my other properties (Land's and Building's) spread across the globe. Except for the Properties and cash mentioned below.
2) Secondly, to my First son - Arjun Oberoi. I leave 15% of the Oberoi Business. To any child he has (my future grandchild) I leave 10 million Dollars and 1 mansion in Australia.
The lawyer interrupted and said, "Since Mr. Arjun Oberoi is deceased. His family, i.e, his wife and child will inherit his share and I have spoken to them. They have informed me, that they don't want the Oberoi Business and have already signed an agreement with a 3rd party to sell their shares to an anonymous Buyer."
3) Thirdly, to my Son - Abhishek Oberoi. I leave 10% of the Oberoi Business and my New York Penthouse.
4) Fourthly, to my daughter - Pooja Oberoi. I leave the London house and 10 million dollars.
5) Fifthly, to Abhishek's Wife - Tanya Oberoi. I leave 5% of the Oberoi Business as a reward, as agreed upon earlier.
6) Lastly, to my beloved Granddaughter, the true successor - Kyra Oberoi. I leave 40% of the Oberoi Business and the remaining 10% is for her Husband. The couple will receive the entirety of the above mentioned, immediately. Only and only if the Lavish and traditional marriage had taken place under normal circumstances in the presence of the family, and Kyra was married to someone from an equally or more Rich, respectable and reputable family.
But,
On the off chance, if the marriage has taken place under unusual circumstances, then Kyra and her husband would only receive half their share in the beginning and upon successful completion of 6 months of Marriage, if they have lived together for the entirety of the period and it appears to be an actual marriage, then they would receive their remaining share. Kyra knows better than to marry for love, that too with someone from a lower background. But if she did then, she and her husband must undergo this trial period, which will serve as a test and a punishment.
The Will may come across as fair to some and unfair to the other's. But this is my Family and my Empire. My decision stands final. This Will will be abided and adhered to, to the fullest extent and cannot be challenged in the court of law. Any attempt to challenge it, will result in the respective person being disowned and removed from the family and will. I have left something for everyone. I hope you find satisfaction in your share.
Goodbye, my dear family. May the Oberoi's always be prosperous.
The lawyer said, "The End. If there are any doubts or concerns, do let me know."
There was complete silence for 2 minutes, while everyone processed the news. Father was the first to break the silence when he questioned, "Who has purchased my Brother's share. I want it, give me their name and I will take it back from them."
The Lawyer said, "Sir, as I've mentioned the Buyer is Anonymous and the deal is done. The unknown 3rd party already has a 15% stake in the business, as of today."
My father grumbled something silently.
The Lawyer said, "If everyone agrees to the terms of the Will and their respective shares, then you can come forward and sign your respective documents and take your shares. Also, Mrs. Kyra Oberoi-Kapoor and Mr. Reyansh Alex Kapoor as you already know that your marriage was done in unusual circumstances. Hence, you will only receive 50% of what you are entitled to, now and after the aforementioned terms are completed you will receive the rest.
I agreed and so did Reyansh, even though he had a weird look on his face, which I could not decipher.
After everyone signed their documents. I realised that I needed to ask my mother, why did grandfather leave her a share in the business, by calling it a reward and not an inheritance.
I asked, "Mom, why did Grandfather say that your share is a reward? What is it a reward for?
She turned to me with a calculating look on her face and said, "It is a reward for raising you as my own all these years and pretending to be your real mother."
I was flabbergasted and then nervously, I said, "What do you mean as a real mother. You are my mom. Right?
Reyansh moved to me at once and stood by my side and held my hand.
I looked at him with a confused expression, when my mom spoke and said haughtily with a cruel smile, "Please, You are not my daughter. I merely raised you in exchange for a share in the business. Your mother died while giving birth to you. I was already screwing your father, behind your mother's back. Your grandfather got to know about it and forced me to marry your father and raise you as my own and to not let you know that I wasn't your real mother. Upon successfully doing this charade for 24years, that is till your birthday, I would finally get my reward."
I would've fallen, if not for the strong grip Reyansh had on me. I couldn't believe what I just heard. My actual mother died giving birth to me and this woman whom I had previously thought was my mother, hated me and raised as if I was a burden or a business transaction.
With teary eyes I asked my father, "Is it true, Dad? Is she not my real mother? Did my real mother die?
My father said, "Yes, what she said is true-"
My mother, no, Tanya Oberoi interrupted before my dad could continue and said, "It is not that deep or serious, cut the drama Kyra. Your making a bigger deal of things than necessary. You have always been a drama queen. Just shut the f*ck up and accept things, the way they are."
Reyansh said in a scary voice. "Don't you dare speak to my wife like this, ever again."
I finally spoke up and said, "Tanya you don't get to tell me, How I'm supposed to feel!!! This is a big f*cking deal, I will react, however the hell I want to."
I looked at Reyansh and said, "Please take me home. I can't stay here a minute longer."
He agreed instantly and hand in hand we walked out of the Mansion, with Krish by our side.
