Chapter 31

Reyansh

I set up the table with a pitcher of orange juice, fresh homemade waffles, a bowl of fruits, scrambled eggs for Krish, sautéed veggies, and homemade sliders.

Eventually both Krish and Kyra returned after washing up and we sat and ate our breakfast. The conversations were light and fun, and from Kyra's expression I could tell she was beaming with happiness and was really enjoying herself. I was glad that we brought her happiness on her special day. Krish was also very happy and jovial.

He seemed to get along very well with Kyra. I was glad about that. They got along like a house on fire. The bond between them was forged instantly and I could see that Krish brought out Kyra's playful side.

Kyra seemed to enjoy the breakfast prepared by me, my chest swelled with pride. She then playfully brought up how Krish had tricked her on her Haldi ceremony day, about him being the brother of groom. Krish countered by saying that he didn't lie about his identity as he is the brother of the actual groom. They lightly bickered like young children, before eventually Krish jumped up from his seat and hugged Kyra and apologised.

She instantly melted and forgave him and returned the hug.

Meanwhile, my mind was already planning out the rest of the day. For lunch Krish and I had planned to take Kyra out to "Sebastian", one of the most premium restaurants in the city, for their legendary 10 course meal. Then in the evening, The Oberoi's had invited us for dinner at their mansion and we had to go over the contract. Which would state how much control Kyra and her new husband would get in the Oberoi Empire.

Kyra still had to unlock the last stage of her grandfather's Will, which was to be opened only after her marriage.

Finally the very thing I had worked so hard for was within my grasp. I could almost taste the victory. But only one thing had changed in my plans. Initially Kyra was going to be a bargaining chip or a stepping stone for me to achieve my goals and then I would cast her aside. But now the very thought of treating Kyra like an object made my blood boil.

I was still going to achieve my goals but with Kyra at my side, I couldn't even fathom being without her. She was now mine and I would not let her go.

Lastly, I also checked wether my final birthday gift to Kyra would arrive on time in the night, after we would be back from the Oberoi mansion. I was sure she was going to love it. I couldn't wait to give it to her and see her expression.

Krish

I freaking loved my new Bhabhi she was amazing, sweet and such a perfect addition to our small family.

Once we were all done eating, the table was cleared and I could see Bhaiya was lost in thought, so I quickly grabbed this opportunity to run to the kitchen before he could stop me and I set up the things needed to do this newly wed ritual, on the coffee table.

(According, to this ritual, a newly married couple sits opposite to each other and in the middle a cauldron/huge pot is filled almost to the top with milk and a few rose petals. A ring is dropped into it, and the man and woman must race to locate the ring and extract it quickly before the other. It is a super fun and chill ritual, done the day after the marriage. It is said that whoever finds the submerged ring and removes it out first, will be the dominant one in the relationship.
The rules are simple - have fun, use only one hand [though in some cases the woman is given the opportunity to use both hands, while the man can use only one hand] and the winner is usually decided on the basis of best of 3 rounds.)

I quickly dropped the ring in the container and swirled the liquid a little, so that the ring gets dispersed. I called the couple and asked them to find the ring and briefly explained the rules to them.

They grudgingly came forward and sat on opposite sides of the coffee table, they were exchanging playful and challenging looks. I said, "Let's see who is going to be the more dominant one in the relationship."

I quickly went over to my bhabhi's side and sat by her and said, "I'm rooting for you bhabhi, you can win this, I will cheer for you. Once you win, we can bully Bhaiya together, it's going to be so fun."

Bhabhi laughed and hugged me and said, "Thank you."

Bhaiya mock glared at me and said sarcastically, "Wow!!! We have a very impartial judge in our midst. Tread lightly Krish, you have become even more of a troublesome little brat after your bhabhi has come home."

I hugged bhabhi and said semi confidently, "You don't scare me anymore Bhaiya, my bhabhi is there to protect me, now."

Bhaiya said with a playful scary face 😈, "We'll see about that."

I looked at bhabhi with a pretend scared and nervous look, and the best puppy dog eyes 🥺, I could muster.

Bhabhi looked at my face and quickly came to my defence and put her arms around me in a very older sisterly/ motherly way, "Reyansh, Stop it. I would appreciate it very much, if you don't threaten and bully, my Devar."

She then turned towards me and kissed my forehead, like I was a toddler.

When bhabhi was not looking at me, I poked my tongue out at Bhaiya and he glared at me, then shook his head and rolled his eyes at both of us and our very dramatic and filmy display.

I then said, "Let the games begin." and then started cheering for my bhabhi very enthusiastically.

Initially both of them just stared at each other, then they dived their respective right hand's in and were searching for the ring.

My Bhaiya was a very competitive person and he always won, he never liked to lose and nor had I ever seen him lose, as a matter of fact. But for the first time he was looking so relaxed while playing, almost like he was trying to prolong the game. I'm sure if he wanted to win, he would have found the ring instantly.

Both they're hands were clashing playfully and it looked like they both had grasped part of the ring together. In that case it would be a tug of war to see who could pull the ring out first.

But my bhabhi was no pushover, nor was she a weak woman. She also looked like she didn't like to lose and wouldn't easily give up. They both tugged at the ring, but neither of them left it.

I could see how Bhaiya was restraining himself. But both of them were laughing and enjoying and were way too competitive to give up. So I called it a tie.

I said, "Round 1 has ended in a tie."

2nd round started as soon as I threw the ring in, both of them dived for it. Bhaiya looked like he got it first and was about to pull it out of the liquid. When suddenly bhabhi put both her hands in and yanked it from his hand, all while she winked at him and made kissy faces at him. The shock and surprise from her behaviour and the fact that she cheated, made him loosen his grip on the ring and she was able to pull it out.

I then started laughing and cheering for her and she too was laughing heartily and was proud of herself.

I said, "Bhabhi has won round 2."

She said, "I'm winning this game Krish, you need to tell your Bhaiya to be quicker if he wants to win, or soon he'll have to submit to my orders. As I'll be the dominant one in the relationship."

We jointly laughed again.

Bhaiya on the other hand, looked like his old self now, that arrogance, confidence and competitiveness had returned and I knew bhabhi had already lost the 3rd round even before it started.

He said, "Krish, tell your bhabhi the game is not over yet and to be very careful. For I'm not going to be chivalrous or benevolent in this round."

Bhabhi said, "Bring it on."

The moment I threw the ring in the pot and swirled the milk and removed my hand. Bhabhi put both of her hands in to find the ring. Bhaiya quickly put his left hand in and caught hold of both of bhabhi's wrists in the water and held her while his right hand was searching for the ring.

Bhabhi tried her best to wriggle her hands out of Bhaiya's grasp, but she was unsuccessful because he didn't let go. She said, "THIS IS CHEATING!!!!! Krish, Reyansh is cheating, not fair, you can't hold onto my hands like this. Krish say something."

I looked up at Bhaiya to interject but his expression made me shut up instantly, after all I didn't have a death wish. I said "Sorry Bhabhi."

Bhaiya looked at her and said with a devious smirk, "I had warned you Kyra, I'm not a gentleman. I play to win. You had been warned."

He pulled out the ring and I said, "Bhaiya, has won round 3. Overall the game has ended in a tie and you will be equals in the relationship."

Bhaiya and bhabhi exchanged a look, which I didn't understand and he was still holding on to her wrists in the milky water and then he let go and she pulled her hands out immediately.

To break the silence I said, "Wow!! what a fun tradition and we have successfully completed the first post marriage ritual"

Kyra said, "Technically speaking the first ritual today, should've been me solo cooking breakfast for the family and then getting the blessing of our elders."

I said, "Well no worries you can prepare lunch and we can take it to our Grandpa and eat it with him and you can take his blessings."

Bhaiya interjected and said, "Krish that's enough. We will not be doing that. You know about grandpa's condition, he doesn't recognise us and he has a very strict diet to be followed because of his ailments. Also, I don't think Kyra would want to cook or spend her afternoon at an old age home."

Bhabhi said, "Reyansh, I would love to make some halwa (a traditional Indian sweet) for your grandfather and even though he may not remember you, he is still the elder member of the house and can give us his blessing. Don't make an ass of you and me by assuming that I wouldn't want to abide by some of the traditional rituals."

Reyansh said, "Okay fine. As you wish. We can eat some halwa with grandpa, spend 10 minutes with him, then we'll go to 'Sebastian' for your special birthday lunch."

Bhabhi nodded at him and I was super proud of her and I could tell, so was Bhaiya.

I took her to the Kitchen to show her where the necessary things needed by her was kept and watched as she prepared the dish. Bhaiya was busy in his room attending work calls.

Eventually once the dish was prepared and we were all ready. We left the house and went to meet grandpa. It was a little heartbreaking to see his condition but eventually he vaguely remembered us and we had the yummy dish prepared by bhabhi and spent exactly 10 minutes with grandpa and left before he would start becoming agitated, as recommended by the doctor.

We left soon, and went for bhabhi's special birthday lunch to 'Sebastian' for our 10 course meal. It was so good and my stomach was bursting by the end of the meal. But I was really happy and I enjoyed the company of my Bhaiya & Bhabhi.
