"Okay everyone, fall in." Sensei said the next day as he walked into the dojo, "Where is everyone?"
"They quit, Sensei." Miguel said with a clear of his throat. After a long day of trying to convince Demetri to come back, he left Eli and Alaska alone to come on their own, "Grader face? Nose ring? Slingshot? Antarctica?"
"I'm here, sorry." Alaska said as she struggled to untie her knee high boots before hurrying to stand next to Eli with a strong back and high head. Eli tried to mimic her stance but only looked like he was trying to suck in for a good beach picture.
"They quit, Sensei." Miguel repeated himself in a lower tone.
"Are you serious?" the man asked in disbelief before clearing his throat, "I mean good. That was a test. I wanted to see who the quitters are. Not you guys. You're in it to win it, right? You could be at home playing your Icomputers, playing your video games, eating candy. Instead, you're here, doing push-ups, learning how to fight. Lip! Look! Even Lips tougher then those guys."
Alaska sighed loudly as she rolled her eyes.
"Could you please not call me that?" Eli asked in a low voice. Alaska nodded her head, proud of him after what they talked about last night. Alaska had encouraged Eli to stand up for himself in a more clam way then Demetri had to express it truly bothered him.
"Excuse me, what?" Sensei asked as he blinked Eli's way.
"Could you please not call me that." Eli repeated himself a little louder, his eyes flickering everywhere but the mans face.
"Um, i'll warm 'em up, Sensei." Miguel tried to jump in quickly to avoid another yesterday from happening.
"No, Lip has something he wants to say." He stated while walking closer, Alaska took a deep breath as she eyed him, "Sorry, speak up, Lip. Or is your tongue messed up too? Are you one of those challenges kids?"
"Um, the doctor said I could be on the spectrum." Eli answered him honestly. Alaska looked to Miguel for help as he gave her a stay down hand motion.
"I don't know what that is, but get off it pronto. All right?" he demanded Eli in questioning, "If you don't want me to call you Lip, don't have a weird lip. Cant you get surgery?"
"I was born with a cleft lip. This is the scar from the surgery." Eli said again. Alaska liked his ability to stay so calm, so gentle yet hadn't backed down yet.
"You mean it was worse before that? Or did the doctor just screw up?" Sensei asked with a slightly amusing yet curious look, "Because if this is the after photo, that sucks, man. You should sue."
"It's really not that bad." Alaska spoke up, not being able to help herself from doing so.
"Can we just please change the topic?" Eli asked hopefully as he avoided eye contact with the blonde before him.
"You don't think I want to? It's tough when it's right in front of me." he spoke quickly with a wide eyed look, "If you wanna be something other then a nerd with a scar on his lip, then you gotta flip the script. Get a face tattoo or gouge your eye out. We'll call you patch, all right?"
The sensei laughed at his own cruel joke, "No, don't do that one. You'll still look like a freak."
Eli's eyes watered horribly as he hurried out of the room toward the back where Alaska assumed the bathrooms were.
"Oh, great. Already another quiter?" he asked in disbelief as Alaska scoffed loud enough to get his attention.
"What'd you expect?" she asked and headed off toward the direction Eli ran to, "With a grown man, low life, bully?"
"Hey! What'd you say?" he yelled at her but stopped when she had disappeared toward the back, "Another quiter!"
Alaska knocked on the door gently, hearing soft cries from the inside, "Eli, it's just me."
"Go away, Laska." he cried, Alaska leaned on the door with sad eyes.
"Just let me in." she begged softy, trying to open the door but finding it locked. With a slightly hesitation look she pulled the bobby pin from her hair, pushing it into the lock as the door clicked. Alaska pushed it open, seeing Eli sat on the floor with his head in his hands.
Alaska shut the door back, locking it behind her as she sat infront of him. Her hands tried to pull his head up but he fought against her. Alaska leaned on top of him as her arms wrapped around the ball position he was in, "Let's just leave, we'll never come back."
"I wanna leave." he cried as Alaska nodded, rubbing his back gently, "But we're coming back."
"Why would we come back to that?" Alaska asked in disbelief as he looked up at her, eyes swollen red from crying. She whipped his face in a habit.
"We just are." he said, whipping his eyes and standing up, pulling her with him.
"You're back?" Miguel asked in disbelief as he saw Alaska walk in the next day, scanning the room, "I thought you were done."
"Wished I was." Alaska said with a huff, "Is Eli not here?"
"Haven't seen him." Miguel said as Alaska sighed and pulled her shoes off, "Hes coming back?"
"He said we were, it's the only reason i'm here." she said as Miguel gave her a apologetic look, "Whats up with your boy? Why's he such a dick and a half?"
"It's really hard to explain." Miguel said as Alaska rose a eyebrow at him in disbelief.
"Oh look, Antarctica's back." Senseis voice was heard as she turned to see him staring at her, "No crying boyfriend today?"
Alaska ignored his question as he nodded, "You're not a quitter, but you are disrespectful and missed a class so give me fifty pushups on your knuckles."
"Yes, sensei." Alaska said as she dropped the the ground and began to do her pushups, counting under her breath each time she did so.
"I've called you names." Sensei started toward the group of kids all lined up, "I've humiliated you. Some of you i've hit. And for that, I don't apologize. Cobra Kai is about strength. If you're not strong enough on the inside, you can't be strong on the outside. And right now, you're all weak. And I know that because I was you. I use to have no friends, I use to be the weirdo kid. Not that weird, I hooked up with babes and all, but.. The point is, I wasn't always the badass sensei I am today. Just like a cobra, I had to shead my loser skin to find my true power. And you guys will too."
The bell on the door rung as it was opened, "Welcome to Cobra Kai."
"Fifty." Alaska said a she fell onto the floor and stretched her fingers out. Her gaze found Miguel who looked in shock toward the door along with a few others.
"Eli, what happened?" Miguel's question made Alaska turn her head to the door suddenly, her mouth dropping and eyes going wide.
Eli, her once soft and innocent best friend who did everything not to stand out even more, stood at the doorway with a high, blue mohawk.
"I'm flipping the script." he stated sternly and confidently with a nod.
"Son of a bitch." Alaska said as her lips turned up in a grin. He met her eye with a nod, smiling down as she got off the floor and fell in line next to Miguel as the pair shared a similar look.
"Wait. Are you the kid with the lip?" Sensei asked as he got closer with amazed eyes, "Nice cut, bro. You see that? Doesn't matter if you're a loser or a nerd or a freak. All that matters is that you become badass!"
Alaska couldn't stop gawking at Eli's new look, not sure if this was real or not.
"Hawk." Sensei stated toward the blue haired boy with a half grin, "Fall in next to Antarctica so she'll get her jaw off the floor."
Eli smirked as he kicked his shoes off, joining Alaska's side as she looked forward with a grin, one he returned.
"Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it?" Sensei asked as his eyes burned into Eli's own.
"No, Sensei!" he said sternly, the loudest anyone in the room had ever heard him. Alaska's eyes widened even more as she blinked, almost trying to wake herself up.
"Weakness does not exist in this dojo, does it?" Sensei asked as he stood before Alaska.
"No, Sensei!" she answered back, straightening her back.
"Pain does not exist in this dojo, does it?" he asked, now standing infront of Aisha.
"No, Sensei!" she said back.
"Defeat does not exist in this dojo, does it?" Sensei Lawrence asked now as he stood before Miguel.
"No, Sensei!" the boy, who'd gotten them into all this in the first place, said back to him. Sensei Lawrence turned his back as he stood before the group of students.
"Class, are you ready to learn the way of the fist?" he yelled out to all of them.
"Yes, Sensei!"
"Can I touch it?" Alaska asked in amazement as she stared up at Eli's hair while they got their shoes back on.
"Sure, just be gentle." he said to her, leaning his head down as her palms touched the top of the spikes gently, "You like it?"
"I love it." she corrected him as he leaned back up when she grinned at him, "It was just so unexpected, like it being hot in alaska or something."
Eli grinned at her words, his arm going around her shoulder as Miguel walked over with a crazy look, "Dude."
"Come on, we better break the news to Demetri." Eli said as he nodded his head toward the door for Miguel to follow, pulling Alaska under his arm with him.
