Alaska sat awkwardly in her car, listening to the sound of Hawk and Moons lips smack against each other. She'd offered Moon a ride home after Eli requested she take him home instead of having his parents pick him up. Not wanting to make Moon feel like Alaska was a threat to their relationship, she offered her one as well.
Though she hadn't expected him to get out of the car with her, leaving the door wide open, and make out with her for four minutes exactly now.
Alaksa drummed her thumbs on her steering wheel, picking at her bandaids that were on the inside of her elbows. Carmen had texted her every few minutes, checking in to make sure she was doing okay. Alaska figured sooner or later she'd start to feel bad again, start to feel withdraws like she had this morning. The tournament distracted her well enough, and from what she knew, the worst part was over.
Alaska leaned down to get a look of Hawk and Moon, watching their lips clash as he held her face. Alaska rolled her eyes, pushing her hand down on the horn as Moon let out a shriek. Eli leaned down to look at her with a raise of his eyebrows, the girl shrugged, "Sorry, my hand slipped."
Moon leaned down to look at her with a smile, "Thanks for the ride home."
"Sleep well, Moon." Alaska said to the girl with a smile, giving a wave as Moon smiled, wishing her good byes to Hawk, before walking inside her large home. Eli pulled himself into the passagers seat, shutting the door as the lights inside went out. The small bit of lights from the radio was all the pair had, Alaska put her car in drive and slowly made her way out of Moons neighborhood.
Silence.
"What are you gonna do everyday without practice?" Eli finally spoke up, Alaska sighed in relief as he did.
"Sensei said I can come in and help with taxes and all that, as long as I don't participate for another two weeks." Alaska nodded her head, swallowing with a slightly clear of her throat. They'd never had to force conversation before, never felt like this. Alaska felt weird, she didn't know why it felt so wrong and weird all of a sudden, but it did. Eli felt as he always did around her, yet something was off, like she'd been able to sense it on him.
Tension.
"Two weeks will go by fast." he said, looking out the window, staring at the street lights as they passed, "Then you can kick some ass."
Alaska cracked a grin as she stopped at the light, adjusting in her seat, "Hopefully he's serious about letting me back on."
"He was." Hawk said, looking over at her in the darkness, "As long as you don't..."
He trailed off, almost like he was scared to say it in a way. Alaska glanced in the corner of her eye, hinting at she understood what he meant.
"What happens now?" he asked as she hummed in questioning, "If the worst of it is over."
"I'm not sure, Carmen said she's going to get me into a group therapy program at the hospital." Alaska said with a nod of her head, turning the steering wheel after putting her blinkers on, "Senseis gonna drug test me every week until they trust me."
"You're gonna do fine, right?" he asked her with a alarming manor, "You're not gonna go back?"
"I'm gonna try not to." Alaksa said honestly to him with a nod, "I can fight it, but I just hope everyone realized it's not as easy as it seems."
"What do you mean?" he asked. Eli hadn't know much about drugs aside from what they'd say at school. The only reason he knew about heroin was because he over heard Alaskas dad talking about it when he walked down stairs for a glass of water in the middle of the night at one of their sleep overs.
"I feel like everyone's just judging me, horribly and completely." Alaska said as she stared at the road, "Like they judge me for not stopped sooner. I wanted to, every time I did it I wanted to stop. But it's not that simple, if it was I wouldn't have gotten this bad in the first place."
Hawk watched her in the darkness, watching as she avoided looking at him, though she knew he'd been looking at her, "I'm not judging you, you know that, right?"
"Completely." she said, her hand moved off the steering wheel for a moment. She'd held his hand in the car on the way to school so many times, it always felt natural to do so. Alaska stopped herself before she could do so, putting her hand back on the steering wheel.
He saw her do so, basically reading her mind.
"Don't tell anyone I'm saying it." he warned her in a way, looking out to window, "I'm proud of you for getting the help you need."
Alaska smiled out at the street she turned, silence falling over them again. He could hear her breath, a sound he found most comforting, especially when her heartbeat was mixed within it. The radio played softly, tuning out their, what felt like knife cutting, silence.
"I know i'll fall in love with you, baby. And that's what I want to do."
"You did really good today." Alaska spoke up, feeling it was her turn, "You kicked some serious ass."
Hawk smirked as he continued to look out the window, "I know."
Alaska cleared her throat again, knowing his house was getting closer and her mind racing horrible, "You're getting pretty serious about Moon then, huh?"
"What do you mean by serious?" he questioned her, adjusting himself in his seat.
"I don't know, she's just your first girlfriend and stuff." Alaska shrugged, biting the inside of her mouth so bad she tasting slight bitterness of blood, "Seems like it's getting serious."
"I don't know, I guess." he answered her, biting the inside of his mouth as well, "I like her."
"Yeah." Alaska spoke, turning on her blinker, "Shes likes you too."
"Do you like her?" he questioned Alaska quickly, like he'd been dying to ask, "I know you weren't really on board before."
Alaska fell silent for a moment, causing anxiety to build up in his chest, "Yeah, I like her."
Just not with you.
"Good." Hawk said with a sigh of relief, "How come you act weird when she's around then?"
"I don't." Alaska said quickly, replying almost immediately to his words, "Isn't the human species suppose to act a little weird around people they don't know well?"
"Guess so." he mumbled with a shrug, "She thinks you're cool, she likes you."
Alaska nodded her head, "Most people do."
"Yeah, i've noticed." he said back in more of a mumble then anything.
Alaska pulled infront of his house, the family car in the drive way while the porch light illuminated the dead flower beds.
"Enjoy the ride?" she teased, turning the light on and twisting her body to look over at him, "I should be charging you."
"You wouldn't." he said with a teasing look, "Bit bumpy, eight out of ten."
Alaska cracked a grin with a nod, "We just got it paid off, dad says I can get a new one if I want."
"Are you going to? This ones just a year old." Eli spoke, remembering when her father gave her the keys on her sixteenth birthday, which was only three weeks away from being a year, "In three weeks anyways."
"I might, maybe a change could be good. I can't dye my hair or throw away my old man sweaters like you though." she said as he grinned at her words, unbuckling his seat belt to turn and face her better.
"Change feels good, you could use some." he said to her honestly, Alaska gave a small nod, "What are you gonna do with this one when you get the new one?"
"I was thinking about giving it to you." Alaska shrugged her shoulders as his eyes lit up we her words, widening as a grin spread across his face, "If you want it."
"Are you kidding? Of course I do." he said in disbelief as Alaksa laughed, making him laugh as well.
There it was, the sense of familiarity.
"I love this car." he said, looking around at it, "Can I put a blue strip across it."
"Sure." she laughed with a shake of her head, "It should be good for you. Nice radio system, holds gas for a bit, pretty decent sized back seat."
Hawk looked back as if he hadn't seen it millions of times, staring at the backseat as he shook his head for a half second before looking at her again, "Is a pretty good backseat."
"Perfect for you and whoever." Alaska said hesitantly, eye contact not being broken for even a second for the other to blink.
"Me and whoever." he said, staring at her intensely, "In the backseat."
Alaska swallows, "In the backseat."
He broke eye contact to flicker his eyes to her lips. Alaska looked away quickly, turning to look at the steering wheel, "It's getting pretty late, Carmen thinks I should have a curfew."
"Oh, yeah, that's probably smart." Hawk said quickly, pulling his bag from the backseat. Alaska pulled her eyes away from his arms as they reached back then back over the seat, "Text me when you get home."
"I will." she said quickly, not looking at him, "Goodnight."
"Night." Eli said, eyeing her slightly before getting out for the car.
