CHAPTER NINETY ONE—
a mother with a coconut.
"Who is that?" Moon immediately grasped Alaskas arm. The Lee girl gave a panicked look at how fast she'd grabbed her. "Who is that pale boy walking with Wyatt right there?"
"Oh, there?" Alaska followed her gaze toward Wyatt near the snack stand near the water slides. "That's Kody. He goes to school with us but a little bit of a loner."
"He is so cute." she gushed in shock. "How have I not seen him before?"
"I don't know." she shrugged back. "Maybe you're developing cataracts?"
"Does he have a girlfriend? Boyfriend? Partner?" she turned around a questionable look, raising her eyebrows hopefully. "And does he have a type?"
Alaska had to laugh at how excited she'd been. "Not that I know of, but i'm sure you fit the description."
"Okay." Moon laid back and fixed her hair. "Talk me up. How do I look?"
"Oh, 10/10." Alaska leaned back with her, pushing her sunglasses up on her nose. "Just say hi."
Moon stood up. Alaska watched as she watched over, saying hi to Kody. Wyatt looked over in a gapping manor, offering the pair a few words before he walked over. Alaska laughed as he got closer, he did the same thing. "If only it was that easy all the time."
"Right?" she agreed, offering him a sip of the coconut she ordered for an overpriced amount. "They'll probably never fight and will get together on a normal rate."
"No cheating on your girlfriend and feeling like the secret gay side piece." he gave a point.
"No break ups because he breaks her best friends arm." Alaska agreed with a head tilt.
"What do you think they'll argue about?" Wyatt shifted his gaze toward Kody and Moon. "Neither of them are all entirely there, maybe it'll just go over their heads."
"I'm guessing..." she trialed off with an eyebrow raise. "Probably something regarding rising signs."
"That what I was thinking too." he agreed with her, glancing over with a grin. "Where is your ex-breaking arms boyfriend?"
"Probably off doing ex-breaking arms boyfriend things." Alaska exhaled as she rubbed more sunscreen onto her face, looking over at Sam. "Have you heard anything we've said?"
"Every bit." she stayed staring at her book.
"You have an admirer." Wyatt offered Alaska a cheeky grin, nodding toward the left. She followed his gaze to see Tory and Robby both look over, immediately glancing away when she looked. "What's that about?"
Alaska avoided talking about them in the presence of Sam. Not because she would let anyone dictate who she was friends with, but she cared about Sams feelings. She knew she was still in a weird place and was trying to put karate behind her for the summer. And Tory was a big part of karate in Sams world. So, her and Alaska spend their days talking about anything else. "They probably just think i'm pretty."
Wyatt laughed as he nodded his head. "Great observation."
"Who's observing?" Eli walked over with a gapping look. "Woah! What have you got there?"
"A giant coconut." Alaska held it up. "I wanted to pretend it was The Lion King."
"Is it a real one?" he sat next to her while Miguel and Sam fell into a awkward ramble as their greeting.
"A real one." she agreed, giving him a sip. "Coconutie?"
"Oh, so coconutie." he agreed, leaning back in the chair with her. "I came looking for you earlier to see if you wanted to go down a slide with me. Where'd you go?"
"Had to save Anthony from downing." Alaska hummed as she put her arm around him. "He was stuck in a tube. Can you believe that boy?"
"Here we go." Miguel braced himself.
"You owe me five bucks." Eli leaned past Alaska to look at Sam.
"What?" the Lee girl got defensive on whatever plan the three of them had going. "What's going on?"
"Nothing." Miguel laughed as Sam shoved a five toward Eli. "Don't worry about it."
"Don't tell me not to worry about it when i'm being betted on." she removed her arm from around Eli and sat up, yanking her sunglasses off. "This is the third time you've all done this, it's getting old."
"We just have this running bet going, that's all." Eli shrugged as he rubbed her back. "Don't worry."
"A bet about what?" Alaska looked toward Miguel and Sam, they'd likely tell her the truth before Eli would.
"It's just a little thing." Miguel was holding in a giggle as he shrugged. "The three of us just like to sit back and see how long it'll take you to start to become a mother figure to anyone more then three years younger then you."
"What?" she gapped. "I don't go that."
"Yes, you do." Wyatt spoke as she looked back. "I'm not even in on this, and I know you do."
"What? Just Bert." she defended herself, pointing at Eli. "And that was your idea to get beer from the store."
"Bert. Nathan. Kenny. Devon. Aiden. Now Anthony." Miguel listed on. "You even mother us."
"I don't mother any of you." she scoffed.
"Alaska, you ordered my food for me without me even asking you to." Sam looked her way with raised eyebrows. "I walked into my room the other day to see you fixing my window because you thought i'd somehow fall out of it."
"Sorry for not wanting you to follow out a window." Alaska shot back at her. "You're so short that you can just fly right out."
"Fine, we'll just start betting on how long it'll take you to start saying how lavender heals all." Eli shrugged as she smacked him in the arm. "Ow, you better put some lavender on that to drop the swelling."
That pulled a laugh from everyone as she tried to hold one back. "I hate you."
"Yeah, I know." he smooshed her face together and kissed her cheek.
The four all looked over to see Cobra Kais and Miyagi-Fang students neck in neck near the slides. Robby and Tory both ran over and got between them.
"You kidding me with this bullshit again?" Eli sat up in disbelief.
"Who's all over there? I don't have my glasses." Alaska removed her sunny's and squinted her eyes to try and see better.
"There's Keene. I thought you said he wasn't in Cobra Kai anymore." Eli looked toward Miguel in disbelief, searching for an answer. Alaska looked over at Robbys name, listening in.
"That's what sensei told me." Miguel shrugged his shoulders.
"Come on." Eli huffed as he stood up, the remaining followed.
"You stay." Alaska cut in as she looked down at Sam, knowing she wanted out of this sort of thing. "I wanna know how your book ends before we leave."
Sam gave her a grateful smile. "You're the best."
"Hey. What are you doing?" Miguel shoved Robby harsh.
"You stay out of this." he demanded in return.
Alaska pulled on Devon's arm to get her out of the middle of all of it. The whistle blew loudly as the lifeguard approached. "Stop it. All of you. Or you're all getting kicked out."
"Okay, clearly we can't co-exist in peace." Miguel huffed as he walked away. "Let's find a solution."
"We can't fight. We'll get kicked out so what are we suppose to do?" Mitch looked toward Miguel.
"We need to go." Robby looked to Tory.
"No." she demanded.
"We'll go." Alaska cut in.
"We're not leaving." Eli argued with her.
"Why? You're turning into a tomato anyways and I don't wanna marry someone's that's gonna age too fast." she rolled her eyes and pointed at his face.
"How about a race?" Bert suggested to get all of their attention. They all looked up at the blue slide.
"I'll go." Eli stepped forward.
Tory stepped forward next. "So will I."
"Champ versus champ!" Kyler announced. Alaska met Torys eye at those words, breaking away after.
"Whoever wins gets the park." Tory nodded her head.
"Deal." Eli smirked after her. "But you won't win."
Alaska looked at Eli as he turned to her. "Have fun."
"What's going on? Why are you being so against this?" he wasn't aware of her being in a good place with Tory and Robby right now, all three of them thought it was best to let things cool off first.
"I'm not against it, I just think it's dumb." she argued with him. "It's a waterpark."
"We already tried to split the park, they clearly aren't doing it." he shrugged his shoulders. "Don't worry, i'll win."
It bothered her that he thoughts that's why she was so annoyed. Him and Tory walked away as Kenny followed to get their tubes. Alaska sneakingly moved a little closer to Robby until they stood close enough to talk, but not close enough for anyone to see them. "Are you back in Cobra Kai?"
"No, I just came to hang out with Tory." he told her in return as they both watched the pair go up the large slide. "Can't avoid confrontation though, I guess."
"I hear you're living with your Dad for the summer." she pointed out.
"How do you know?" Robby wasn't aware how she'd known, unless it came from Miguel.
"I have my ways." she shrugged.
Robby cracked a grin at her words. "Nothing creepy about that at all."
"So, have you and Tory talked about maybe her getting out?" Alaska asked. Theoretically, if Tory left, Alaska wouldn't have to worry about anyone in the dojo. Maybe Kenny, but she hadn't gotten close enough to him yet to get too attached. Eventually, she knew he'd follow. That was her first mistake, assume he would.
"Yeah, she's not for it." he said, she frowned. "Believe me, I tried. Kenny too."
"Well, what about you?" she looked over, actually looked over instead of having everyone convinced she was staring at the slide the whole time. She didn't realize they were back to square one, the reason they fought so badly not too long ago. She was keeping him a secret again. It was for his benefit this time, but still. It occurred to her then, that's why she'd turned her head and spoke up enough so everyone knew they were talking to each other. "Is anyone gonna care that you're talking to me?"
"No." he said in return. "You?"
"Yeah, but I don't care." she shrugged her shoulders, already being able to feel Miguel stare. "Do you think you're coming back to Miyagi-Fang now?"
"I don't know, I guess it depends on how things go at my Dads." he shook his head with a shrug. "Right now, things aren't looking the best."
She sighed, debating if she should over step here. "I think you and Miguel could really get along if you two just gave each other a chance. I'm not saying you forget and forgive everything from the past, but just a little lead way could go a long way. At least send you guys down the yellow brick road, hand in hand, singing Christmas music."
Robby rose his eyebrows at her. "Christmas music?"
"Hey, it puts me in a forgiving mood." she shrugged her shoulders, looking up again when they all made it to the top. "Here we go."
"Three! Two! One!" Kyler yelled as Tory and Eli both went down the slides. "Let's go!"
They all waited before Tory made it down, cheering loudly. Alaska winced, already knowing Eli would milk this all day and complain until he passed out. Tory rose her arms with a bright smile, celebrating as Cobra Kai cheered.
Eli came through a second later, Alaska frowned her eyebrows together at his inflated tube. "You cheated! There was a hole in my tube!"
Torys face fell as she looked over, having cheater chanted in their direction. Alaska pulled Eli out of the water, if it were any other situation, he'd ask how she got so strong. He immediately went toward Kenny. "Dipshit. I know this was you."
"What are you gonna do about it?" Kenny gave him a look of disbelief.
"I'm not gonna strike first if that's what you think." the taller boy mocked him with a laugh. "You don't have the balls to anyway."
Kenny nodded, looking like he was gonna step away before he tossed his fist. Eli leaned back to dodge it. Alaska immediately broke away from Robby and hurried to the other side of the pool. Kenny kept throwing his fist before getting Eli right in the face. He hit him in the leg before Robby ran to his rescue, tossing Eli into the pool. Alaska gapped. "Robby, seriously? Your kid literally started it!"
He didn't get a chance to say anything back as Miguel shoved him hard. Alaska leaned over to try and help Eli out again, feeling hands grab her by the waist and yank her back. She stumbled into the chair as Kyler smiled at her. "What's up, Lee? You're still here? I figured you got shipped off to rehab after that big announcement at the All Valley."
"Hey." Tory cut in as she got between the two. "Back off, Kyler."
"What? I'm just saying what h-" he began, Alaska ducked under Torys arm and let out a battle cry, kicking Kyler in the gut before grabbing the back of his neck.
"Oh god." Wyatt spoke as he helped Eli out. "Where are they-"
He was cut off by Alaska letting Kylers neck go and tossing him through the snack stand, destroying everything lined up in the window. She jumped in with him. Kyler kicked her in the face from where he was on the ground, making Alaska stumble back some. The workers had no choice but to escape the small building as she threw a coconut at his head. Kyler winced, Alaska smacked his head against the counter and drug him across it, dropping him at the end as she grasped the door and yanked it to hit him a few times.
As she walked out, a bloody nose and all, she headed back over to her friends. "Now we go. No debate."
