"Let's begin!"
Silence. Awkward silence. Alaska rose her eyebrows, looking over in Miguel direction as he gave a shrug of confusion. She elbowed Demetri, nodding for him to do something. The dark haired boy cleared his throat, slowly raising his hand. "Uh, begin what exactly?"
Johnny and Daniel shared a look, Sam glancing backwards in Alaskas direction, the pair pulling the same look.
"Begin a new era." Daniel announced to the group of teens. "Many of us used to be enemies. But rivalries don't need to last forever. The All Valley Tournament is just a few months away, but this year, the stakes are higher then they've ever been. We know that Cobra Kai is gonna use every dirty trick in the book. There's only one way we're gonna be able to beat-"
"By kicking their asses so hard they shit themselves." Johnny cut him off with a knowing look to each of them. Alaska cleared her throat, linking arms with Demetri and Eli to brace herself for whatever he was gonna say next. "We gotta take things to the next level. Gonna teach you an aggression stronger than anything Cobra Kai can throw at us. They strike first? We'll pre-strike!"
"Oh my god." Alaska said through her teeth, disguising it as a encouraging smile.
"Okay, we're getting ahead of ourselves." Daniel stepped in quickly before any of them got too horrible of ideas. "We are going to respond to what they do."
"Eagles do not respond." the blonde cut him off with a knowing point to his finger. "They swoop down and take whatever they want. That's what we're gonna do. Take back the Valley."
"Woop, take back the Valley!" Alaska cheered, throwing her fist over her head.
"Take it back in a measured and organized approach." Daniel spoke up soon after with alarming eyes.
"We bite first!" Johnny yelled.
Daniel sighed in defeat. "Okay, let's just warm up with some simple exercises."
"All right, line up!" the blonde sensei announced, Alaska walking before the boys, Hawk and Demeter behind her and they took their stances in line together.
"Just breathe and follow me." Daniel gave a nod of his head, inhaling and exhaling, holding his hands over his head.
Alaska did as he said, whispering, though it was louder then she thought. "This is what we do in AA meetings."
"Fighting positions!" Johnny called out after her words, making the Eagle Fangs do as he said, Miyagi Dos still following Daniels approach. "Front kick ready. Hi-yah!"
"Hi-yah!" they yelled on sync, Mitch kicking Nathan down to the ground as the group flinched.
"Shit, dude. I'm sorry." the curly haired boy looked down at him in apologizes.
Alaska and Hawk shared a look.
"Ready. Fight!" Johnny announced when they moved deeper into the yard, waving his hand between Bert and Mitch. The two began to swing at each other, trying to get a punch in. Alaska glanced pasted Demetri, looking at Eli as he leaned against the rock. His eyes looked shiny and even more blue in the orange sun shining down on them, making her grin. His eyes found hers, giving a shy smile at her stare, looking away as a flush went across his face.
"Hey, hey! You're just swinging at each other!" Daniel got between the two with a crazy look. He looked back at Johnny. "Don't you teach any defense?"
"Best defense is more offense." Mitch nodded his way.
Bert kicked him harshly in the side, one to the chest as he stumbled back into the rock. Alaska clapped loudly. "You're doing amazing, sweetie."
"Alaska." Daniel gave her a crazy look.
"That's my freaking kid." she pointed to the small blonde boy with a nod.
"Why do you have a rock in your dojo?" Johnny looked at Daniel in disbelief as a few Miyagi Dos helped Mitch to his feet.
"Come on, walk in off, Penis Breath." Alaska grasped his hand, pulling him to his feet.
"What did she call him?" Daniel gave Johnny a crazy look.
"Uh, hello?" a new voice rung, making them all look over and see a tall, pretty boy walk through the fence. "Is this Eagle Fang and Miyagi Do?"
Alaska grinned, tugging on Sensei Lawrence's arm. "That my friend Wyatt from debate. He knows how to fight."
"Another nerd?" he looked at her in disbelief.
"He's great." Alaska whispered with a nod. "And his parents are loaded."
Johnny faced Wyatt, seeing him in his athletic attire that sorta match with Alaska. No one really noticed how they both wore dark purple tank tops while her leggings were black, his were white. But Eli noticed, just like he noticed Alaska smile as he walked over, giving him a "bro hug" and inviting him into the circle so easily.
"Fight!" Daniel announced not too long after, this time having Sam and Demetri demonstrate the Miyagi Do training.
"Is that your lanky friend you tell me about?" Wyatt whispered to Alaska with a questionable look.
"Yeah, Meat." Alaska nodded her head. "I'll introduce you after."
Hawk slowly approached, standing by her side as his shoulder pushed into hers, trying not to eye Wyatt. Sam and Demetri circled each other for a while, the rest sitting back and waiting for one of them to make a move but it never seemed to come. Daniel nodded. "That's it. Keep circling. Don't anticipate. Stay focused."
"One of you do something. What the hell is this?" Johnny yelled out with a judgmental, look of disbelief across his face.
"Yeah, that's not how this works." Demetri looked over with a huff. "One of us has to be provoked."
Wyatt gave a sudden snort when the blonde man chunked his water bottle at Demetri. Alaska and Eli both flinched, sharing a look, and shaking their heads on sync. Johnny nodded. "Provoked yet?"
"She's done this before?" Johnny looked at Daniel as he watched Sam and Alaska on the wheel in the water. "You were training my student?"
"She brought us food, I wasn't training her. I was just giving her a practice run." Daniel said back, recalling the memory he had.
"Yeah, come on, Al!" Hawk cheered for her as Sam and Alaska leveled each other out.
"How was debate team?" Sam asked, standing on the other side as her and Alaska made sure not to loose their footing and have the other fall.
"We lost." the Lee girl answered, stepping to the side as Sam did the same before they could fall. "Hit my component in the face."
"Why?" Sam asked, throwing her fist back as Alaska blocked her. "You remember."
"You're provoking me." Alaska mocked her slightly, trying to sweep her leg but Sam moved. The wheel gave out a little, the two stumbling but managing to find the others balance. "My component was being an ass."
"Get her, Antartica!" Johnny yelled to her, Alaska looked his way. "Who trained you? Huh?"
Alaska looked to Sam with a apologetic look. "We just got back on good terms. I don't want him to get jealous."
"Alaska." Sams eyes widened with a knowing look. "Remember what we-"
The taller girl let out a battle cry, charging forward as she tackled Sam into the pond. Daniel squeeze the bridge of his nose as Johnny cheered loudly. Wyatt slapped Demetris arm. "Do we all get to do that?"
Demetri looked over oddly, sharing a look with Eli as they both chose to ignore Wyatt.
"Wax on, Wax off." Daniel encouraged as his Miyagi Dos whipped his classics perfectly, going in the circle they were taught. "It doesn't matter how many times you've done it. You always need to practice your fundamentals."
"Why is everyone doing it differently?" Wyatt asked Alaska as they scrubbed Johnnys car.
"That's right, clean it good." Johnny yelled at each of them. "Want it to look brand-spanking-new.Get all the cans out of there. You find any loose change, it belongs to me."
Alaska huffed, her arms burning as she scrubbed the car. "It's a really long story."
Hawk look across the car at the two talking, sighing as he looked down and pretended to pay attention to cleaning the car.
"Come on, you maggots! Faster!" Johnny yelled as the students went through different courses around the dojo, ones similar to what you'd do in an exercise program in school. Alaska and Demetri leaned on each other, both out of breath. "Hey, Dumb and Dumber! This isn't resting hour, let's go!"
Alaska gave a minor salute, jumping through the tires across the ground, Demetri close after. Hawk watched in a panic at the two. "Guys, be carf-"
He was cut off by Alaska tripping on one of the tires, face planting while Demetri attempted not to run over her, ending uptripping himself and landing smack on top of the girl. The red haired boy flinched as he shook his head, looking away.
"Oh god. I think i'm about to barf." Chris gave a panicked look, running to the side.
"No, no, not the boat!" Daniel yelled as the boy ran toward the row boat, leaning over the side to puke in it. Hawk looked over, seeing Wyatt walking toward Alaska and Demetri. He dropped the baseball bat he was suppose to run around, hurrying over to cut Wyatt off, reaching down to pull the pair up together.
Alaska slapped his chest. "Thanks, strong man."
"Yeah, thanks, strong man." Demetri slapped his chest next with an inhale.
Chris puking had Daniel encouraged the group to go inside the dojo, regretting his words when Johnny had Wyatt and Hawk start to fight. Alaska looked between the pair, watching Johnny as he nodded. "Fight!"
Hawk grinned evily, swinging his foot forward and kicking Wyatt in the stomach. The boy winced, being hit in the arm before swinging at him again. Hawk ducked down before he could hit him, kicking forward as he kicked the red haired boy smack in the face. Alaska winced again as Johnny elbowed her. "What dojo was he apart of?"
"He dad trained him from home." Alaska shook her head, watching as Eli kicked at Wyatt again, getting him good before the taller boy backed off, causing Hawks foot to crash through the door. Alaska winced, biting her fist with a shake of her head.
"You see, this is why we don't spar in here." Daniel announced as Hawk backed off, an apologetic look on his face.
"I feel like everyone either hating me or is pretending not to." Eli spoke as him and Alaska sat in the back seat of his, that was originally her, car.
"Not me." she pointed out his way with a half grin, passing him the box of wings. "There's guac in there too."
"Who's your new friend?" he cleared his throat, dipping one of the wings in the guac. "What his name? Wallflower?"
Alaska gave a snort at his words. "Wyatt. He's new here, we're on debate together. His hotel room was across from mine and he told me how his dad trained him in martial arts, I figured we should see what he's got."
"He's not that good." Hawk spoke, despite actually thinking Wyatt was decent.
"I'm sure he'll get better once he realized our style." she nodded, looking up through the sun roof as the night sky seemed starless. She glanced at her house, the car parked in the driveway. "You know you can come in."
Hawk looked over at her with a innocent look. "Your dads really mad at me."
"He'll get over it. You practically lived here before." she pointed out. Before, when she said it, it made his face fall. She realized that she hurt his feelings. "I mean, we're good no-"
"You mean before I screwed up everything." he corrected her, meeting her eye again. "Before I hurt his daughter. I'd be mad at me too."
Alaska shook her head. "Beth says that focusing on the past is bullshit. You and I aren't bullshit, so we don't focus on the past."
He tried not to smile but did, throwing a wing at her. "Did Beth really say that?"
"No, I just made it up but knew it sounded cheesy so I blamed it on her." she gave a snort, biting into the wing and throwing her head back again the seat. Neither one of them should have thought about it, but they both thought back to that night in the back seat of this exact car. They seemed to read each other's minds, looking over and meeting the other eye.
Hawk blinked first. "I should get home."
Her face fell, because that was not what she was hoping he was gonna say. "You don't wanna come in for a little bit? If you're worried about my dad, I can just sneak you in and we can just watch a movie or whatever."
Despite wanting to more then anything, he shook his head. "My Mom gave me a curfew. You're not the only one I need to fix things with."
Alaska nodded her head, passing him the rest of the wings. "I guess I'll just go lay in my bed, all alone, watching a movie and actually paying attention to it instead of being distracted."
Eli bite back the urge to follow her in. "I hope you pick a good movie."
She blinked in disbelief, clearing her throat as she felt her entire body heat up in embarrassment. "Right, i'll see you in the morning."
She crawled out of the car, circling it. Eli huffed, cursing to himself slightly as he got out too, the headlights shining on her in the front. "Laska."
She looked his way, eyes lit up from the bright lights. Hawk shook his head with a sigh. "I just don't...I don't want to mess everything up again."
She shook her head. "I won't let you."
"I don't want to hurt you again." he corrected his saying, this time she didn't say anything back. "I never wanna hurt you again."
"You think you will?" Alaska asked, eyeing him as she felt her heart race. It shouldn't have been beating as hard as it was, but she was frozen in the headlights and just wanted him to be infront of her, be anywhere near her, but he kept his distance.
"Not intentionally." Hawk shook his head, eyes darting across her entire being. "I just- don't think I don't want to come in. Because I do, so bad. I'm just trying to hold myself back from you until I get everything figured out."
She blinked, a half smirk across her lips. "Can't wait to see how long you try to hold yourself back."
He grinned back at her, watching as she walked toward the front door. "What happens if I do?"
"You won't make it." she reminded him, not bothering to turn back. "I'll give it a week tops."
Hawk laughed as he watched her walk up the steps. "You really think you have that big of an affect on me?"
This time, Alaska did turn back. She smiled, holding onto the door knob. "I know I do."
Then, before Eli could say anything, she disappeared back inside.
