Cold.

The bitter breeze hit your numb face once again. It gave you another tickling chill. It was quiet, completely. As if there wasn't another living thing in at least five miles. But that wasn't right... You weren't in an isolated area from before. So, where exactly... Were you? You don't remember being in what felt like snow. Half buried in it. You tried to remember, but nothing came to mind. Barely even questions. All there was, was darkness. Except one little thing. One little memory. You fell.

One by one, snowflakes drifted back down to earth, joining the millions that layed on the ground. You watched this from your window, lost in thought. It's been snowing for awhile now. As in months. You were half surprised, sometimes it did go on for a while, and sometimes it didn't. You lifted the white mug back up to your lips and took a sip. It was bad today though.

No one was able to leave their houses as the snow piled up at least a couple feet above ground. Not that you were complaining. You didn't mind staying at home, watching the outside with a mug filled with hot cocoa. You turned your head away from the window for a moment, down to your drink. It was plain brown, swirling with the remains of whipped cream.

'I should turn off the heater. I really don't want to get a big heating bill.' That was one reason why you wanted to turn it off. Another, was that you were getting way too hot. You were wearing warm clothes anyway. Fluffy pajama pants with a simple shirt and a hoodie. You also had warm socks on. The thought of getting up made you feel lazy. But you were getting too warm. 'I'll probably get more marshmallows in this while I'm up.' Your eyes trailed up to the direction of your kitchen. Maybe a snack too... You had some cookies you bought yesterday. With that you placed down your mug on the coffee table and stood up. You took a step forward.

A small, but fatal mistake.

You tugged your other foot forward, but it was restrained. Your foot was caught in your blanket that was flooding over the couch. And like that you lost your balance and fell. It felt like slow motion before you hit the ground, and you closed your eyes to prepare yourself. Though it never came. It felt like you were falling for another thirty seconds before finally, you hit the ground and everything went black.

So... How did you end up here? Slowly, thoughts came back to you, more memories, and more confusion. This just didn't make sense. Unless it was a dream. If it was, hopefully your hot chocolate didn't spill. That'd be a pain to clean up off the rug. 'What the hell is happening? Did a window break or something? And snow flooded the house?' That was a ridiculous thought, but honestly, the most reasonable. Your eyelids twitched. You were coming back to your senses. Your fingers curled around the freezing snow, giving your hands a sharp burn.

Finally, your eyes opened. In soft blinks. You expected to be blinded by light, because when you fell it was daytime. But once you looked around, it was pitch black. You could barely see a couple feet ahead of you. And what was ahead of you? A tall tree. 'Why is there a tree...?' That exact moment, is when you realized you weren't at home anymore. But somewhere entirely different. With the little energy you had, you lifted your head out the snow. The half that was buried in the snow was completely numb. In fact, your whole body felt numb, wet, and cold.

You shivered. You had to figure out where the hell you were. And what happened. Why were you in the woods? Did someone find you unconscious in your house and then drive you out to the woods to dump your body? No, what? That doesn't make sense either. So what happened?

You planted your trembling hands in the snow to push yourself up. How long have you been out? That was a new worrying question. And how are you not... Dead? Or maybe you're just going through hypothermia. You're just seeing things, right? Like that tree? Well if so, you're on the verge of dying. Your surroundings were hard to make up. Obviously you could see trees, but that was it. You couldn't identify where exactly you were. Besides the obvious. A forest.

You tucked away your freezing hands into your sleeves with a sniffle. It was a small struggle, but after a minute or two, you balanced yourself back on two feet. Which were aching. A small breeze picked up. Maybe you took being hot in your house for granted. Your whole body was shaking like a candle flame, weak and ready to give out. You need to get your body moving. So you started to walk. You swayed every step you took, trudging through the snow. Your shallow breaths came out as puffs. Every exhale you made stirred out your mouth like a light cloud of smoke.

You're not sure how far you have been walking, but after a while, you felt uneasy. Like something, or someone was watching you. So you picked up your sluggish pace. But you couldn't keep up. Your feet stung and burned in the cold snow. While your lungs started to feel dry, you coughed. You were becoming lightheaded. Then, you heard something. The first thing you've heard since you've been here. A twig snapping.

That fueled your motivation to keep running. But your body was aching. This pain went on for as long as you could ignore it, until finally you tripped and struck the ground. The snow welcomed you back into it's embrace. You wanted to get back up, but your body refused to move. It felt light, and so did you. Your head went light and your eyes became heavy. Until finally they closed, and everything went black.
