[11] fear
Fear. It's all the Losers felt as they called Stanley's name, searching for him in the sewers. There hadn't been one happy moment in that house of nightmares. After walking straight ahead, the tunnel they were currently in opened into another one.
Eddie splashed into the next tunnel muttering "Shit, grey water." The Losers followed behind him, continuing to call out Stan's name, hoping he was nearby. All of a sudden, Stan's terrified screams filled the tunnel. Arizona's blood turned to ice as the group quickly ran in the direction of the panicking boy. They arrived in front of a door, Stan's screams muffled behind it, and they pushed to get it open. When they finally did, the Losers piled into the room and looked for Stan. It was only a moment before Eddie's flashlight shed light onto a horrific sight.
Stan was lying on the ground, and an abhorrent figure was latched onto his face.
"Guys, what the fuck is that?" Arizona choked out, not understanding the sight in front of her. Apparently, no one heard her because Richie repeated the exact same question.
The figure looked up at them, it's solid white eyes not leaving theirs as it appeared to suck the life out of the curly haired boy. The Losers continued to scream as it slowly unlatched itself from Stan's face and disappeared into the shadows. Arizona thought it was gone, but she was sorely mistaken seeing as Pennywise's face appeared where the figure exited and smiled at them, and went back to where It came from. The group hesitated for a moment before rushing to the sobbing boy's side.
They all went to help him up, but Stan pushed them away, screaming at them as he did so. He scrambled away from his friends yelling, "You left me! You're not my friends! You made me go into Neibolt!" Arizona's heart broke for the boy, she hated how he alone he must have felt.
"Stanley, I'm sorry," Eddie cried while the rest of the Losers placed comforting hands on the boy's shaking shoulders.
"We are so sorry Stan, we won't leave you again. I promise, you'll be safe," Arizona said, and Stan seemed to calm down a bit, even if he continued to say they left him. The Losers just hugged him, trying to make him feel safe. Arizona felt like she had to protect Stanley, he was too fragile to make this fight alone.
Arizona turned to ask Bill something, but he was gone. She glanced around their vicinity and didn't see their leader anywhere.
"Guys, where'd Bill go?" she asked, and the Losers looked around for the stuttering boy. No one could see him in the area.
"Are you fucking serious right now?" she groaned, heading towards the only other pipe in the room, hoping Bill went down that way. The group called Bill's name, but received no response.
Eventually, they reached an opening and the Losers found Beverly.
"Bev," Mike called. The girl just remained floating in the air, causing confusion to spread throughout the group.
"I don't think she can hear us guys," Arizona said, tearing her eyes away from the girl and looking at her friends.
"How-how is she in the air?" Richie questioned.
"Anything is possible when a child-eating clown exists," Arizona muttered.
"Guys, are those..." Eddie asked, and every gazed upon the center of the cistern. Arizona's stomach clenched at the sight of the floating bodies.
"The missing kids, floating," Stan finished Eddie's sentence and Arizona had to turn away, the sight too gruesome for her eyes to behold. Mike pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead, giving her the comfort only he could provide.
"Guess we know what It meant by 'You'll float too'," Richie joked, but even he couldn't laugh at a time like this.
"Shut up Richie and help me grab Bev," Mike ordered, letting go of Arizona and moving towards the floating girl. Arizona watched as Mike and Richie hoisted Ben up into the air and the boy grabbed Beverly by her legs. They may have pulled her down, but it didn't pull her out of whatever trance she was in.
"Bev! Beverly! Why isn't she waking up? What's wrong with her?" Ben screamed, looking around for answers. Arizona only placed a hand on his shoulder and pulled him away from the comatose girl. The boys pleas echoed throughout the cistern and everyone looked at the ground in defeat. They couldn't save her.
Suddenly, Ben pulled Beverly into a short and desperate kiss. The Losers stood in shock at the boy's efforts to wake Beverly up. Richie and Stan groaned in disgust while the rest looked away.
"Wow," Eddie commented, earning a smack on the shoulder from the auburn haired girl beside him.
"Ben I don't thin-" Arizona started, but was cut off by a gasp from Beverly. The group all looked up in shock.
"January embers," Beverly said in a tone of recognition.
"My heart burns there too," Ben replied. Arizona and Mike looked each other, sensing the subtle chemistry between the two.
"Jesus fuck," Richie laughed, wrapping his arms around Ben and Beverly.
"Oh my God," Mike sighed, joining in on the hug.
"Thanks for not leaving me Bev," Arizona said.
"I wouldn't dream of it," Beverly responded, laughing as she gets engulfed in a group hug.
After the moment of joy passes, Eddie breaks away from the group.
Beverly notices this and asks, "Where's Bill?"
"We have the same question," Arizona replied. The Losers, with Mike leading the way, begin to search for Bill. Eventually, they find him standing in front of his little brother. They all glanced at each other in confusion, seeing as Georgie is supposed to be dead.
"Take me home Billy," Georgie begged as the group halted and watched the scene unfold in front of them.
"I wanna go home," he continued, tears filling his eyes. Short sobs escape from Bill's mouth as he listens to Georgie's pleas. Everyone in the cistern knew the truth. That wasn't Georgie.
"I miss you. I wanna be with Mom and Dad," Georgie cried. Arizona couldn't stop the tears from falling down her face, this was heartbreaking to watch.
Bill just shakes his head and chokes out, "I want more than anything for you to be home. Mom and Dad. I miss you so much."
"I love you Billy," Georgie said.
"I love you too," Bill replied, pulling out Mike's gun and placing it to his brother's forehead. Georgie began to sob as Bill said, "But you're not Georgie."
Bill pulled the trigger and Georgie's body fell to the ground. The Losers sat in a stunned silence, only having a moment of peace before the boy's body began to shake. Arizona tightly gripped Mike's arm as they watched the body of Bill's brother transform into the most sinister being in all of Derry.
